The Boundary between Two Modes of Gas Evolution: Oscillatory (H2 and O2) and Conventional Redox (O2 Only), in the Hydrocarbon/H2O2/Cu(II)/CH3CN System. HYDROGEN 2023. Abstract
During the oxidation of hydrocarbons using hydrogen peroxide solutions, the evolution of gaseous oxygen is a side and undesirable process, in which the consumption of the oxidizer is not associated with the formation of target products. Therefore, no attention is paid to the systematic study of the chemical composition of the gas and the mechanisms of its formation. Filling this gap, the authors discovered a number of new, previously unidentified, interesting facts concerning both gas evolution and the oxidation of hydrocarbons. In a 33% H2O2/Cu2Cl4·2DMG/CH3CN system, where DMG is dimethylglyoxime (Butane-2,3-dione dioxime), and is at 50 °C, evidence of significant evolution of gaseous hydrogen, along with the evolution of gaseous oxygen was found. In the authors’ opinion, which requires additional verification, the ratio of gaseous hydrogen and oxygen in the discussed catalytic system can reach up to 1:1. The conditions in which only gaseous oxygen is formed are selected. Using a number of oxidizable hydrocarbons with the first adiabatic ionization potentials (AIPs) of a wide range of values, it was found that the first stage of such a process of evolving only gaseous oxygen was the single electron transfer from hydrogen peroxide molecules to trinuclear copper clusters with the formation, respectively, of hydrogen peroxide radical cations H2O2•+ and radical anions Cu3Cl5•− (AIP = 5 eV). When the conditions for the implementation of such a single electron transfer mechanism are exhausted, the channel of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide molecules into gaseous hydrogen and oxygen is switched on, which is accompanied by the transition of the system to an oscillatory mode of gas evolution. In some cases, the formation of additional amounts of gaseous products is provided by the catalytically activated decomposition of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen after the complete consumption of hydrogen peroxide molecules in the reaction of gaseous oxygen evolution. The adiabatic electron affinity of various forms of copper molecules involved in chemical processes is calculated by the density functional theory method.

Abstract
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) are known to be a group of compounds of high toxicity for animals and, particularly, for humans. Given that the most common method to destroy these compounds is by high-temperature combustion, finding other routes to render them less toxic is of paramount importance. Taking advantage of the physisorption properties of nanotubes, we studied the reactions of atomic hydrogen on physisorbed PCDDs using DFT; likewise, we investigated the reaction of molecular hydrogen on PCDDs aided by Ni10 and Ni13 clusters adsorbed on single-wall carbon nanotubes. Because dihydrogen is an easily accessible reactant, we found these reactions to be quite relevant as dehydrohalogenation methods to address PCDD toxicity.

Abstract
The ability to activate methane differs appreciably for different transition metals, and it is attractive to find the most suitable metal for the direct conversion of methane to value-added chemicals. Herein, we performed a comparative study on the reactions of CH4 with Au2+, AuRh+ and Rh2+ cations by mass-spectrometry based experiments and DFT-based theoretical analysis. Different reactivity has been found for these cations: Au2+ has the lowest reactivity, and it can activate methane but only produce H-Au2-CH3+ without H2 release; Rh2+ has the highest reactivity, and it can produce both carbene-type Rh2-CH2+ and carbyne-type H-Rh2-CH+ with H2 release; AuRh+ also has high reactivity to produce only AuRh-CH2+ with H2, avoiding the excessive dehydrogenation of CH4. Our theoretical results demonstrate that Rh is responsible for the high reactivity, while Au leads to selectivity, which may be caused by the unique intrinsic bonding properties of the metals.

Abstract
Nuclear-spin-symmetry conservation makes the observation of transitions between quantum states of ortho- and para-H_{2} extremely challenging. Consequently, the energy-level structure of H_{2} derived from experiment consists of two disjoint sets of level energies, one for para-H_{2} and the other for ortho-H_{2}. We use a new measurement of the ionization energy of para-H_{2} [E_{I}(H_{2})/(hc)=124 417.491 098(31) cm^{-1}] to determine the energy separation [118.486 770(50) cm^{-1}] between the ground states of para- and ortho-H_{2} and thus link the energy-level structure of the two nuclear-spin isomers of this fundamental molecule. Comparison with recent theoretical results [M. Puchalski et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 103003 (2019)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.122.103003] enables the derivation of an upper bound of 1.5 MHz for a hypothetical global shift of the energy-level structure of ortho-H_{2} with respect to that of para-H_{2}.

Abstract
The ionization energy of ortho-H_{2} has been determined to be E_{I}^{o}(H_{2})/(hc)=124 357.238 062(25) cm^{-1} from measurements of the GK(1,1)-X(0,1) interval by Doppler-free, two-photon spectroscopy using a narrow band 179-nm laser source and the ionization energy of the GK(1,1) state by continuous-wave, near-infrared laser spectroscopy. E_{I}^{o}(H_{2}) was used to derive the dissociation energy of H_{2}, D_{0}^{N=1}(H_{2}), at 35 999.582 894(25) cm^{-1} with a precision that is more than one order of magnitude better than all previous results. The new result challenges calculations of this quantity and represents a benchmark value for future relativistic and QED calculations of molecular energies.

Abstract
We report an exhaustive compilation of wavelength-dependent matrix elements over the mean polarizability (α¯) and polarizability anisotropy (γ) operators for the rovibrational states of the H2, HD, and D2 molecules together with an accompanying computer program for their evaluation. The matrix elements can be readily evaluated using the provided codes for rovibrational states with J = 0-15 and v = 0-4 and for any laser wavelengths in the interval 182.25-1320.6 nm corresponding to popular, commercially available lasers. The presented results substantially extend the scope of the data available in the literature, both in respect of the rovibrational transitions analyzed and the range of covered laser frequencies. The presented detailed tabulation of accurate polarizability tensor invariants is essential for successful realization of our main long-term goal: developing a universal standard for determining absolute Raman cross sections and absolute Raman intensities in experimental Rayleigh and Raman scattering studies of molecules.

Abstract
We have compiled gas phase enthalpies of formation for nine hydrogen-oxygen species (HxOy) and selected recommended values for H, O, OH, H2O, HO2, H2O2, O3, HO3, and H2O3. The compilation consists of values derived from experimental measurements, quantum chemical calculations, and prior evaluations. This work updates the recommended values in the NIST-JANAF (1985) and Gurvich et al. (1989) thermochemical tables for seven species. For two species, HO3 and H2O3 (important in atmospheric chemistry) and not found in prior thermochemical evaluations, we also provide supplementary data consisting of molecular geometries, vibrational frequencies, and torsional potentials which can be used to compute thermochemical functions. For all species, we also provide supplementary data consisting of zero point energies, vibrational frequencies, and ion reaction energetics.

Abstract
We report on the first experimental observation of a new threshold behavior observed in the 5(2)G partial channel in photodetachment of K(-). It arises from the repulsive polarization interaction between the detached electron and the residual K(5(2)G) atom, which has a large negative dipole polarizability. In order to account for the observation in the K(5(2)G) channel, we have developed a semiclassical model that predicts an exponential energy dependence for the cross section. The measurements were made with collinear laser-ion beams and a resonance ionization detection scheme.

Abstract
Born-Oppenheimer approximation Hylleraas variational calculations with up to 7034 expansion terms are reported for the 1sigma(g)+ ground state of neutral hydrogen at various internuclear distances. The nonrelativistic energy is calculated to be -1.174 475 714 220(1) hartree at R = 1.4 bohr, which is four orders of magnitude better than the best previous Hylleraas calculation, that of Wolniewicz [J. Chem. Phys. 103, 1792 (1995)]. This result agrees well with the best previous variational energy, -1.174 475 714 216 hartree, of Cencek (personal communication), obtained using explicitly correlated Gaussians (ECGs) [Cencek and Rychlewski, J. Chem. Phys. 98, 1252 (1993); Cencek et al., ibid. 95, 2572 (1995); Rychlewski, Adv. Quantum Chem. 31, 173 (1998)]. The uncertainty in our result is also discussed. The nonrelativistic energy is calculated to be -1.174 475 931 399(1) hartree at the equilibrium R = 1.4011 bohr distance. This result also agrees well with the best previous variational energy, -1.174 475 931 389 hartree, of Cencek and Rychlewski [Rychlewski, Handbook of Molecular Physics and Quantum Chemistry, edited by S. Wilson (Wiley, New York, 2003), Vol. 2, pp. 199-218; Rychlewski, Explicitly Correlated Wave Functions in Chemistry and Physics Theory and Applications, edited by J. Rychlewski (Kluwer Academic, Dordrecht, 2003), pp. 91-147.], obtained using ECGs.
