Abstract
The phase diagrams of quasi two-dimensional organic superconductors display a plethora of fundamental phenomena associated with strong electron correlations, such as unconventional superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, frustrated magnetism and spin liquid behavior. We analyze a minimal model for these compounds, the Hubbard model on an anisotropic triangular lattice, using cutting-edge quantum embedding methods respecting the lattice symmetry. We demonstrate the existence of unconventional superconductivity by directly entering the symmetry-broken phase. We show that the crossover from the Fermi liquid metal to the Mott insulator is associated with the formation of a pseudogap. The predicted momentum-selective destruction of the Fermi surface into hot and cold regions provides motivation for further spectroscopic studies. Our theoretical results agree with experimental phase diagrams of κ-BEDT organics.

Abstract
At strong repulsion, the triangular-lattice Hubbard model is described by s=1/2 spins with nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interactions and exhibits conventional 120° order. Using the infinite density matrix renormalization group and exact diagonalization, we study the effect of the additional four-spin interactions naturally generated from the underlying Mott-insulator physics of electrons as the repulsion decreases. Although these interactions have historically been connected with a gapless ground state with emergent spinon Fermi surface, we find that, at physically relevant parameters, they stabilize a chiral spin liquid (CSL) of Kalmeyer-Laughlin (KL) type, clarifying observations in recent studies of the Hubbard model. We then present a self-consistent solution based on a mean-field rewriting of the interaction to obtain a Hamiltonian with similarities to the parent Hamiltonian of the KL state, providing a physical understanding for the origin of the CSL.

Abstract
Rational control of the molecular arrangement in solids has been the subject of intense research for many years. In particular, the structural control of bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (ET) radical cations has attracted special interest because of the primary effect on the electronic properties of the salts. In this study, we obtained the first ET cation radical salts formed with nonuniform silver(I) complex polyanions, which involve multiple kinds of openings in the anionic layer, by an electrocrystallization method. θ-(ET)2Ag2(CN)[N(CN)2]2 (1) with a θ-type ET packing motif contains double helical chains composed of AgN(CN)2, whereas α″-(ET)2Ag2(CN)(SCN)2 (2) with an α″-type ET packing motif contains zigzag ladders composed of AgSCN. Both silver(I)-based tube-like assemblies are connected to each other by a cyano group, affording nonuniform polyanionic structures. Although both salts show semiconducting behavior, there is a distinct difference in their spin geometry, with an S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic square lattice in 1, which is associated with charge disproportionation or dynamical charge fluctuation in the ET layers, and an S = 1/2 Heisenberg anisotropic triangular lattice in 2, which results in spin frustration in the ET layers. The ability of the nonuniform polymeric structures in the anionic layers to act as templates for various arrangements of ET radical cations is demonstrated.

Abstract
Spin current-a flow of electron spins without a charge current-is an ideal information carrier free from Joule heating for electronic devices. The celebrated spin Hall effect, which arises from the relativistic spin-orbit coupling, enables us to generate and detect spin currents in inorganic materials and semiconductors, taking advantage of their constituent heavy atoms. In contrast, organic materials consisting of molecules with light elements have been believed to be unsuited for spin current generation. Here we show that a class of organic antiferromagnets with checker-plate type molecular arrangements can serve as a spin current generator by applying a thermal gradient or an electric field, even with vanishing spin-orbit coupling. Our findings provide another route to create a spin current distinct from the conventional spin Hall effect and open a new field of spintronics based on organic magnets having advantages of small spin scattering and long lifetime.

Abstract
We thoroughly examine the ground state of the triangular lattice of Pb on Si(111) using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. We detect electronic charge order, and disentangle this contribution from the atomic configuration which we find to be 1-down-2-up, contrary to previous predictions from density functional theory. Applying an extended variational cluster approach we map out the phase diagram as a function of local and nonlocal Coulomb interactions. Comparing the experimental data with the theoretical modeling leads us to conclude that electron correlations are the driving force of the charge-ordered state in Pb/Si(111). These results resolve the discussion about the origin of the well-known 3×3 reconstruction. By exploiting the tunability of correlation strength, hopping parameters, and band filling, this material class represents a promising platform to search for exotic states of matter, in particular, for chiral topological superconductivity.

Abstract
Unconventional superconductivity in molecular conductors is observed at the border of metal-insulator transitions in correlated electrons under the influence of geometrical frustration. The symmetry as well as the mechanism of the superconductivity (SC) is highly controversial. To address this issue, we theoretically explore the electronic properties of carrier-doped molecular Mott system κ-(BEDT-TTF)2X. We find significant electron-hole doping asymmetry in the phase diagram where antiferromagnetic (AF) spin order, different patterns of charge order, and SC compete with each other. Hole-doping stabilizes AF phase and promotes SC with dxy-wave symmetry, which has similarities with high-Tc cuprates. In contrast, in the electron-doped side, geometrical frustration destabilizes the AF phase and the enhanced charge correlation induces another SC with extended-s + \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}

Abstract
Spin liquid (SL) systems have been the subject of much attention recently, as they have been theoretically predicted to not freeze, even at 0 K. Despite extensive searches being made for such a system, only a few candidates have been found. All of these candidates share geometrical frustrations that are based on triangular lattices. We applied vibrational spectroscopy to one of the candidates of a molecule-based SL system, and we compared its results against three antiferromagnetic compounds and four charge-ordered compounds. All of their structural motifs belong to triangular lattices. The C=C stretching modes in the SL state indicated that there were charge and lattice fluctuations. These fluctuations were suppressed but non-negligible in the AF compounds. This finding is potentially significant, as it indicates that a hidden lattice and charge fluctuation are the driving force of a geometrical frustration, which eventually leads to a SL state.

Abstract
We show that the anisotropy of the effective spin model for the dimer Mott insulator phase of κ-(BEDT-TTF)_{2}X salts is dramatically different from that of the underlying tight-binding model. Intradimer quantum interference results in a model of coupled spin chains, where frustrated interchain interactions suppress long-range magnetic order. Thus, we argue, the "spin liquid" phase observed in some of these materials is a remnant of the Tomonaga-Luttinger physics of a single chain. This is consistent with previous experiments and resolves some outstanding puzzles.

Abstract
It is widely recognized that the effect of doping into a Mott insulator is complicated and unpredictable, as can be seen by examining the Hall coefficient in high Tc cuprates. The doping effect, including the electron–hole doping asymmetry, may be more straightforward in doped organic Mott insulators owing to their simple electronic structures. Here we investigate the doping asymmetry of an organic Mott insulator by carrying out electric-double-layer transistor measurements and using cluster perturbation theory. The calculations predict that strongly anisotropic suppression of the spectral weight results in the Fermi arc state under hole doping, while a relatively uniform spectral weight results in the emergence of a non-interacting-like Fermi surface (FS) in the electron-doped state. In accordance with the calculations, the experimentally observed Hall coefficients and resistivity anisotropy correspond to the pocket formed by the Fermi arcs under hole doping and to the non-interacting FS under electron doping. Electron or hole doping in a Mott insulator leads to superconductivity, with the mechanism obscured by multi-orbital Fermi surface reconstructions. Here, Kawasugi et al. report doping dependent Hall coefficients and resistivity anisotropy of an organic Mott insulator, revealing doping asymmetry of reconstructed Fermi surface of a single electronic orbital.

Abstract
Superconductivity in the cuprates exhibits many unusual features. We study the two-dimensional Hubbard model with plaquette dynamical mean-field theory to address these unusual features and relate them to other normal-state phenomena, such as the pseudogap. Previous studies with this method found that upon doping the Mott insulator at low temperature a pseudogap phase appears. The low-temperature transition between that phase and the correlated metal at higher doping is first-order. A series of crossovers emerge along the Widom line extension of that first-order transition in the supercritical region. Here we show that the highly asymmetric dome of the dynamical mean-field superconducting transition temperature , the maximum of the condensation energy as a function of doping, the correlation between maximum and normal-state scattering rate, the change from potential-energy driven to kinetic-energy driven pairing mechanisms can all be understood as remnants of the normal state first-order transition and its associated crossovers that also act as an organizing principle for the superconducting state.

Abstract
We present evidence for Mott quantum criticality in an anisotropic two-dimensional system of coupled Hubbard chains at half-filling. In this scenario emerging from variational cluster approximation and cluster dynamical mean-field theory, the interchain hopping t_{⊥} acts as a control parameter driving the second-order critical end point T_{c} of the metal-insulator transition down to zero at t_{⊥}^{c}/t≃0.2. Below t_{⊥}^{c}, the volume of the hole and electron Fermi pockets of a compensated metal vanishes continuously at the Mott transition. Above t_{⊥}^{c}, the volume reduction of the pockets is cut off by a first-order transition. We discuss the relevance of our findings to a putative quantum critical point in layered organic conductors, whose location remains elusive so far.

Abstract
A highly unconventional superconducting state with a spin-singlet dx2-y2+/-idxy-wave, or chiral d-wave symmetry has recently been suggested to emerge from electron-electron interactions in doped graphene. It has been argued that graphene doped to the van Hove singularity at 1/4 doping, where the density of states diverge, is particularly likely to be a chiral d-wave superconductor. In this review we summarize the currently mounting theoretical evidence for the existence of a chiral d-wave superconducting state in graphene, obtained with methods ranging from mean-field studies of effective Hamiltonians to angle-resolved renormalization group calculations. We further discuss the multiple distinctive properties of the chiral d-wave superconducting state in graphene, as well as its stability in the presence of disorder. We also review the means of enhancing the chiral d-wave state using proximity-induced superconductivity. The appearance of chiral d-wave superconductivity is intimately linked to the hexagonal crystal lattice and we also offer a brief overview of other materials which have also been proposed to be chiral d-wave superconductors.

Abstract
The Shastry-Sutherland lattice, one of the simplest systems with geometrical frustration, which has an exact eigenstate by putting singlets on diagonal bonds, can be realized in a group of layered compounds and raises both theoretical and experimental interest. Most of the previous studies on the Shastry-Sutherland lattice are focusing on the Heisenberg model. Here we opt for the Hubbard model to calculate phase diagrams over a wide range of interaction parameters, and show the competing effects of interaction, frustration and temperature. At low temperature, frustration is shown to favor a paramagnetic metallic ground state, while interaction drives the system to an antiferromagnetic insulator phase. Between these two phases, there are an antiferromagnetic metal phase and a paramagnetic insulator phase (which should consist of a small plaquette phase and a dimer phase) resulting from the competition of the frustration and the interaction. Our results may shed light on more exhaustive studies about quantum phase transitions in geometrically frustrated systems.

Abstract
A frustrated, effective ½-filled band Hubbard-Heisenberg model has been proposed for describing the strongly dimerized charge-transfer solid families κ-(ET)2X and Z[Pd(dmit)2]2. In addition to showing unconventional superconductivity, these materials also exhibit antiferromagnetism, candidate spin-liquid phases, and, in the case of Z=EtMe3P, a spin-gapped phase that has sometimes been referred to as a valence bond solid. We show that neither superconductivity nor the valence bond order phase occurs within the Hubbard-Heisenberg model. We suggest that a description based on ¼-filling, that is reached when the carrier concentration per molecule instead of per dimer is considered, thus may be appropriate.

Abstract
In Mott insulators, the strong electron-electron Coulomb repulsion localizes electrons. In dimensions greater than one, their spins are usually ordered antiferromagnetically at low temperatures. Geometrical frustrations can destroy this long-range order, leading to exotic quantum spin liquid states. However, their magnetic ground states have been a long-standing mystery. Here we show that a quantum spin liquid state in the organic Mott insulator EtMe(3)Sb[Pd(dmit)(2)](2) (where Et is C(2)H(5)-, Me is CH(3)-, and dmit is 1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate) with two-dimensional triangular lattice has Pauli-paramagnetic-like low-energy excitations, which are a hallmark of itinerant fermions. Our torque magnetometry down to low temperatures (30 mK) up to high fields (32 T) reveals distinct residual paramagnetic susceptibility comparable to that in a half-filled two-dimensional metal, demonstrating the magnetically gapless nature of the ground state. Moreover, our results are robust against deuteration, pointing toward the emergence of an extended 'quantum critical phase', in which low-energy spin excitations behave as in paramagnetic metals with Fermi surface, despite the frozen charge degree of freedom.

Abstract
An intricate interplay between superconductivity, pseudogap, and Mott transition, either bandwidth driven or doping driven, occurs in materials. Layered organic conductors and cuprates offer two prime examples. We provide a unified perspective of this interplay in the two-dimensional Hubbard model within cellular dynamical mean-field theory on a 2×2 plaquette and using the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method as impurity solver. Both at half filling and at finite doping, the metallic normal state close to the Mott insulator is unstable to d-wave superconductivity. Superconductivity can destroy the first-order transition that separates the pseudogap phase from the overdoped metal, yet that normal state transition leaves its marks on the dynamic properties of the superconducting phase. For example, as a function of doping one finds a rapid change in the particle-hole asymmetry of the superconducting density of states. In the doped Mott insulator, the dynamical mean-field superconducting transition temperature T(c)(d) does not scale with the order parameter when there is a normal-state pseudogap. T(c)(d) corresponds to the local pair formation temperature observed in tunneling experiments and is distinct from the pseudogap temperature.

Abstract
A natural explanation for the carrier concentration-dependent electronic behavior in the layered cobaltates emerges within correlated-electron Hamiltonians with finite on-site and significant nearest neighbor hole-hole Coulomb repulsions. The nearest neighbor repulsion decreases hole double occupancy below hole density 1/3, but increases the same at higher hole densities. Our conclusion is valid for both single-band and three-band extended Hubbard Hamiltonians, and sheds light on concentration dependent e'(g) hole occupancy within the latter.

Abstract
The EtMe(3)P and EtMe(3)Sb triangular organic salts are distinguished from other Pd[(dmit)(2)] based salts, as they display valence bond and no long-range order, respectively. Under pressure, a superconducting phase is revealed in EtMe(3)P near the boundary of valence bond order. We use slave-rotor theory with an enlarged unit cell to study competition between uniform and broken translational symmetry states, offering a theoretical framework capturing the superconducting, valence bond order, spin liquid, and metallic phases on an isotropic triangular lattice. Our finite temperature phase diagram manifests a remarkable resemblance to the phase diagram of the EtMe(3)P salt, where the reentrant transition of insulator-metal-insulator type can be explained by an entropy difference between the metal and U(1) spin liquid. We predict different temperature dependence of the specific heat between the spin liquid and metal.

Abstract
We show that the spin-liquid phase of the half-filled Hubbard model on the triangular lattice can be described by a pure spin model. This is based on a high-order strong coupling expansion (up to order 12) using perturbative continuous unitary transformations. The resulting spin model is consistent with a transition from three-sublattice long-range magnetic order to an insulating spin-liquid phase, and with a jump of the double occupancy at the transition. Exact diagonalizations of both models show that the effective spin model is quantitatively accurate well into the spin-liquid phase, and a comparison with the Gutzwiller projected Fermi sea suggests a gapless spectrum and a spinon Fermi surface.

Abstract
Frustrated magnets are materials in which localized magnetic moments, or spins, interact through competing exchange interactions that cannot be simultaneously satisfied, giving rise to a large degeneracy of the system ground state. Under certain conditions, this can lead to the formation of fluid-like states of matter, so-called spin liquids, in which the constituent spins are highly correlated but still fluctuate strongly down to a temperature of absolute zero. The fluctuations of the spins in a spin liquid can be classical or quantum and show remarkable collective phenomena such as emergent gauge fields and fractional particle excitations. This exotic behaviour is now being uncovered in the laboratory, providing insight into the properties of spin liquids and challenges to the theoretical description of these materials.

Abstract
Intense experimental and theoretical studies have demonstrated that the anisotropic triangular lattice as realized in the kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2X family of organic charge transfer salts yields a complex phase diagram with magnetic, superconducting, Mott insulating, and even spin liquid phases. With extensive density functional theory calculations we refresh the link between many body theory and experiment by determining hopping parameters of the underlying Hubbard model. This leads us to revise the widely used semiempirical parameters in the direction of less frustrated, more anisotropic triangular lattices. The implications of these results on the systems' description are discussed.

Abstract
We investigate the quantum phase transitions in the half-filled Hubbard model on the triangular lattice by means of the path-integral renormalization group method with a new iteration and truncation scheme proposed recently. It is found for a cluster of 36 sites that as the Hubbard interaction U increases, the paramagnetic metallic state undergoes a first-order phase transition to a nonmagnetic insulating (NMI) state at Uc1 approximately 7.4t, which is followed by another first-order transition to a 120 degrees Néel ordered state at Uc2 approximately 9.2t, where t is the transfer integral. The size dependence of the results is also addressed. Our results suggest the existence of the intermediate NMI phase and resolve some controversial arguments on the nature of the previously proposed quantum phase transitions.

Abstract
We investigated the ground state (GS) properties of the single-orbital t-J-V model in a quarter-filling two-dimensional triangular lattice with the slave-boson mean-field approach. We found that the charge ordering (CO) and spin ordering arising from the spin exchange interaction J competes with that from the inter-site Coulomb interaction V. For comparatively large J, the stable GS is insulating with striped CO and antiferromagnetic ordering, avoiding the homogeneous frustrated phase. Accompanying the insulating CO phase, a small insulating gap is opened. Within a reasonable J and V parameter region, our results are consistent with the recent neutron scattering experiments in Na(0.5)CoO(2), which possibly elucidate its CO, magnetic and other GS properties.

Abstract
We address the nature of the Mott transition in the Hubbard model at half-filling using cluster dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). We compare cluster-DMFT results with those of single-site DMFT. We show that inclusion of the short-range correlations on top of the on-site correlations does not change the order of the transition between the paramagnetic metal and the paramagnetic Mott insulator, which remains first order. However, the short range correlations reduce substantially the critical U and modify the shape of the transition lines. Moreover, they lead to very different physical properties of the metallic and insulating phases near the transition point. Approaching the transition from the metallic side, we find an anomalous metallic state with very low coherence scale. The insulating state is characterized by the narrow Mott gap with pronounced peaks at the gap edge.

Abstract
We report exact calculations of magnetic and superconducting pair-pair correlations for the half-filled band Hubbard model on an anisotropic triangular lattice. Our results for the magnetic phases are similar to those obtained with other techniques. The superconducting pair-pair correlations at distances beyond nearest neighbor decrease monotonically with increasing Hubbard interaction U for all anisotropy, indicating the absence of frustration-driven superconductivity within the model.

Abstract
We investigate the half-filled Hubbard model on an isotropic triangular lattice with the variational cluster approximation. By decreasing the on-site repulsion U (or equivalently increasing pressure) we go from a phase with long-range, three-sublattice, spiral magnetic order, to a nonmagnetic Mott insulating phase--a spin liquid--and then, for U less or similar to 6.7t, to a metallic phase. Clusters of sizes 3, 6, and 15 with open boundary conditions are used in these calculations, and an extrapolation to infinite size is argued to lead to a disordered phase at U = 8t, but to a spiral order at U greater or similar to 12.

Abstract
We study the spin-1/2 Ising model on a Bethe lattice in the mean-field limit, with the interaction constants following one of two deterministic aperiodic sequences, the Fibonacci or period-doubling one. New algorithms of sequence generation were implemented, which were fundamental in obtaining long sequences and, therefore, precise results. We calculate the exact critical temperature for both sequences, as well as the critical exponents beta, gamma, and delta . For the Fibonacci sequence, the exponents are classical, while for the period-doubling one they depend on the ratio between the two exchange constants. The usual relations between critical exponents are satisfied, within error bars, for the period-doubling sequence. Therefore, we show that mean-field-like procedures may lead to nonclassical critical exponents.

Abstract
We investigate the Hubbard model on the anisotropic triangular lattice by means of the cellular dynamical mean-field theory. The phase diagram determined in the Hubbard interaction versus temperature plane shows novel reentrant behavior in the Mott transition due to the competition between Fermi-liquid formation and magnetic correlations under geometrical frustration. We demonstrate that the reentrant behavior is characteristic of the Mott transition with intermediate geometrical frustration and indeed consistent with recent experimental results of organic materials.

Abstract
We study the superconducting state of the hole-doped two-dimensional Hubbard model using cellular dynamical mean-field theory, with the Lanczos method as impurity solver. In the underdoped regime, we find a natural decomposition of the one-particle (photoemission) energy gap into two components. The gap in the nodal regions, stemming from the anomalous self-energy, decreases with decreasing doping. The antinodal gap has an additional contribution from the normal component of the self-energy, inherited from the normal-state pseudogap, and it increases as the Mott insulating phase is approached.

Abstract
The mechanism that drives a metal-insulator transition in an undoped quasi-one-dimensional Mott insulator is examined in the framework of the Hubbard model with two different hoppings t(perpendicular1) and t(perpendicular2) between nearest-neighbor chains. By applying an N(perpendicular)-chain renormalization group method at the two-loop level, we show how a metallic state emerges when both t(perpendicular1) and t(perpendicular2) exceed critical values. In the metallic phase, the quasiparticle weight becomes finite and develops a strong momentum dependence. We discuss the temperature dependence of the resistivity and the impact of our theory in the understanding of recent experiments on half-filled molecular conductors.

Abstract
The charge ordering transition induced by the nearest-neighbor Coulomb repulsion V in the 1/4-filled extended Hubbard model is investigated using cellular dynamical mean-field theory. We find a transition to a strongly renormalized charge ordered Fermi liquid at V(CO) and a metal-to-insulator transition at V(MI)>V(CO). Short range antiferromagnetism occurs concomitantly with the CO transition. Approaching the charge ordered insulator, V approximately <V(MI), the Fermi surface deforms and the scattering rate of electrons develops momentum dependence on the Fermi surface.

Abstract
Recent experiments on the organic compound kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu2(CN)3 raise the possibility that the system may be described as a quantum spin liquid. Here we propose a pairing state caused by the "Amperean" attractive interaction between spinons on a Fermi surface mediated by the U(1) gauge field. We show that this state can explain many of the observed low temperature phenomena and discuss testable consequences.

Abstract
We study the resonating valence bond theory of the Hubbard-Heisenberg model on the half-filled anisotropic triangular lattice. Varying the frustration changes the wave vector of maximum spin correlation in the Mott insulating phase. This, in turn, changes the symmetry of the superconducting state that occurs at the boundary of the Mott insulating phase. We propose that this physics is realized in several families of quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductors.
