Factors affecting the entrepreneurial leadership in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of Pakistan

Determining employee satisfaction, intrapreneurship and firm growth among managers of Pakistan

Nowadays, organizational performance and Firm Growth (FG) depend significantly on entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and Employee Satisfaction. This study aimed to examine ES, intrapreneurship, and FG among top managers in Pakistan. The study employed a quantitative method based on cross-sectional data which we collected through a survey questionnaire. In conducting this study, the researchers employed a random sampling technique. The final analysis utilized 180 valid samples. The findings of the SEM analysis show that ES has a significant and positive impact on intrapreneurship and FG. Furthermore, intrapreneurship has, also, a positive and significant impact on FG. This study's results have led the researchers to conclude that a thoughtful and systematic approach to ES would lead to greater intrapreneurship and FG. This study's findings contribute, also, to intrapreneurship research by adding to the empirical evidence on the effects of ES and intrapreneurship on FG.

The Role of Environment, Business and Human Behavior towards Entrepreneurial Sustainability

The current paper investigates the factors, i.e., environmental, business, behavioral, and human relations, that promote entrepreneurial sustainability of SMEs in Pakistan. The study employs the quantitative approach, which utilizes the cross-sectional data of 347 entrepreneurs of the SMEs sector of Pakistan. The data study applies a survey questionnaire to collect the data. The random technique is employed to target the respondents. By employing the structural equation model (SEM), the study finds a positive and significant impact of environment/surroundings, business, behavior, and human-related factors on entrepreneurial sustainability. In a simple sense, all the hypotheses are accepted. The study’s findings would encourage practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to hunt the patterns of social, behavioral, economic, human, and environmental contributions to promote entrepreneurial activity. Further, the study would provide an optimal solution to utilize these factors for bringing sustainable development SMEs.

Effects of entrepreneurial orientation on social media adoption and SME performance: The moderating role of innovation capabilities

The increase of social media (SM) has led to continuous deviations in how day-to-day entrepreneurial activities can be carried out. Additionally, studies devoted to SM entrepreneurship and SM are relatively limited and fragmented in their focus. However there is growing interest from scholars, practitioners and academia for upcoming studies and exploration within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) context. This research explores the impact of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on SM adoption and SME performance in developing countries. We employed the resource-based view (RBV) as the foundation for developing the conceptual framework The present study employed a closed-ended questionnaire to collect data from SMEs located in Pakistan. Partial-least-squares-structural equation-modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized for the analysis of 423 responses. The results proved a direct positive link between EO-SMEs performance, EO-SM adoption, SM adoption-SMEs performance, innovation capabilities (IC), and SME performance. Partial mediation was found between EO and SME performance, and the significant moderation effect of IC was found between SM adoption and SME performance. This paper has implications for practitioners and researchers regarding SM adoption in the SMEs. It builds an empirical, multi-dimensional hypothesized model, including mediating and moderating roles affecting the relationships.

Can critical success factors of small businesses in emerging markets advance UN Sustainable Development Goals?

Purpose

This study contributes to answering the question, can critical success factors of small businesses in emerging markets advance United Nation (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Specifically, this study aims to explore the critical factors contributing to the success of small businesses and ultimately the UN SDGs in the emerging market of Nigeria.

Design/methodology/approach

The design is survey research testing the Lussier success vs failure prediction model for small businesses in Nigeria. The methodology includes a logistic regression model to better understand and predict the factors that contribute to success or failure using a data set of 201 small businesses in Nigeria.

Findings

The findings support the validity of the Lussier model (p = 0.000) in Nigeria as the model accurately predicted 84.4% of the small businesses as successful or failed with a high R-square value (R = 0.540). The most significant factors (t-values < 0.05) that predict the success or failure of businesses support the findings that business owners that start with adequate capital, keep records and financial controls, use professional advice, have better product/service timing, and have parents who own businesses can increase the probability of success.

Practical implications

The study provides a list of critical success factors contributing to the growth of small business in Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa. The findings can help entrepreneurs avoid failure and advance UN SDGs 1, 2, 8 and 10. Implications for current and future entrepreneurs, public agencies, consultants, educators, policymakers, suppliers and investors are discussed.

Originality/value

This is the first study to determine the factors that contribute to the success or failure of small businesses in Nigeria using the Lussier model. It also discusses how to advance four of the UN sustainability goals. Results support the Lussier model's global validity that can be used in both emerging and developed markets, and it contributes to the development of theory.

Entrepreneurial leadership: a missing link between perceived organizational support and organizational performance

Purpose

The current research is aimed at exploring entrepreneurial leadership (EL) as a mediator in perceived organizational support (POS) and organizational performance (OP) relationship. Furthermore, it also examined the impact of POS and entrepreneurial leadership on the performance of an organization.

Design/methodology/approach

A purposively selected sample of 216 respondents from the SME sector of Oman was chosen for the study.

Findings

The results revealed that POS and entrepreneurial leadership positively and significantly have an effect on organizational performance. Moreover, the hypothesized role of entrepreneurial leadership as a mediator between POS and OP relationship was also supported.

Research limitations/implications

In spite of the novelty of the research, it was limited due to a few reasons. First, the research design is cross-sectional. Second, the research only focused SME sector. This research only focused on entrepreneurial leadership as a mediator, whereas, other mediators could have been explored as well.

Originality/value

The research on POS and organizational performance relationship is still in its exploration stage. Past research indicate that POS has an effect on different outcomes within an organization, including its performance. However, still, the research on the entrepreneurial leadership process is quite scarce. The current research will explore it in the context of Oman, where there is a dire need to establish SME sector performance. The unique combination between POS, entrepreneurial leadership and performance in the SME sector of Oman marks the novelty of the current research. This study contributes to the SME’s literature and it is among the pioneer studies exploring the mediating role of entrepreneurial leadership in the relationship between POS and OP.
