RHSOFS: Feature Selection Using the Rock Hyrax Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Credit Card Fraud Detection System

In recent years, detecting credit card fraud transactions has been a difficult task due to the high dimensions and imbalanced datasets. Selecting a subset of important features from a high-dimensional dataset has proven to be the most prominent approach for solving high-dimensional dataset issues, and the selection of features is critical for improving classification performance, such as the fraud transaction identification process. To contribute to the field, this paper proposes a novel feature selection (FS) approach based on a metaheuristic algorithm called Rock Hyrax Swarm Optimization Feature Selection (RHSOFS), inspired by the actions of rock hyrax swarms in nature, and implements supervised machine learning techniques to improve credit card fraud transaction identification approaches. This approach is used to select a subset of optimal relevant features from a high-dimensional dataset. In a comparative efficiency analysis, RHSOFS is compared with Differential Evolutionary Feature Selection (DEFS), Genetic Algorithm Feature Selection (GAFS), Particle Swarm Optimization Feature Selection (PSOFS), and Ant Colony Optimization Feature Selection (ACOFS) in a comparative efficiency analysis. The proposed RHSOFS outperforms existing approaches, such as DEFS, GAFS, PSOFS, and ACOFS, according to the experimental results. Various statistical tests have been used to validate the statistical significance of the proposed model.

PLncWX: A Machine-Learning Algorithm for Plant lncRNA Identification Based on WOA-XGBoost

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of RNAs longer than 200 nt and cannot encode the protein. Studies have shown that lncRNAs can regulate gene expression at the epigenetic, transcriptional, and posttranscriptional levels, which are not only closely related to the occurrence, development, and prevention of human diseases, but also can regulate plant flowering and participate in plant abiotic stress responses such as drought and salt. Therefore, how to accurately and efficiently identify lncRNAs is still an essential job of relevant researches. There have been a large number of identification tools based on machine-learning and deep learning algorithms, mostly using human and mouse gene sequences as training sets, seldom plants, and only using one or one class of feature selection methods after feature extraction. We developed an identification model containing dicot, monocot, algae, moss, and fern. After comparing 20 feature selection methods (seven filter and thirteen wrapper methods) combined with seven classifiers, respectively, considering the correlation between features and model redundancy at the same time, we found that the WOA-XGBoost-based model had better performance with 91.55%, 96.78%, and 91.68% of accuracy, AUC, and F1_score. Meanwhile, the number of elements in the feature subset was reduced to 23, which effectively improved the prediction accuracy and modeling efficiency.

Relevant Feature Selection from a Combination of Spectral-Temporal and Spatial Features for Classification of Motor Imagery EEG

This paper presents a novel algorithm (CVSTSCSP) for determining discriminative features from an optimal combination of temporal, spectral and spatial information for motor imagery brain computer interfaces. The proposed method involves four phases. In the first phase, EEG signal is segmented into overlapping time segments and bandpass filtered through frequency filter bank of variable size subbands. In the next phase, features are extracted from the segmented and filtered data using stationary common spatial pattern technique (SCSP) that can handle the non- stationarity and artifacts of EEG signal. The univariate feature selection method is used to obtain a relevant subset of features in the third phase. In the final phase, the classifier is used to build adecision model. In this paper, four univariate feature selection methods such as Euclidean distance, correlation, mutual information and Fisher discriminant ratio and two well-known classifiers (LDA and SVM) are investigated. The proposed method has been validated using the publicly available BCI competition IV dataset Ia and BCI Competition III dataset IVa. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the existing methods in terms of classification error. A reduction of 76.98%, 75.65%, 73.90% and 72.21% in classification error over both datasets and both classifiers can be observed using the proposed CVSTSCSP method in comparison to CSP, SBCSP, FBCSP and CVSCSP respectively.
