Consensus Maneuvering for a Class of Nonlinear Multivehicle Systems in Strict-Feedback Form

Event-triggered adaptive sliding mode control for consensus of multiagent systems with unknown disturbances

In this paper, a novel robust distributed consensus control scheme based on event-triggered adaptive sliding mode control is proposed for multiagent systems with unknown disturbances in a leader-follower framework. First, an adaptive multivariate disturbance observer is utilized to compensate for the disturbance of each agent. Next, a distributed consensus control protocol is constructed via integral sliding mode control, in which a novel adaptive law is designed for the switching gain to overcome the unknown perturbations. An event-triggered strategy is designed to update the control input. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed scheme is rigorously analyzed by Lyapunov theory, and a lower bound expression for the inter-event time is derived to guarantee that Zeno behavior can be excluded. The proposed nonlinear consensus algorithm is remarkable in that it does not require any information about the bounds of the disturbances. Finally, compared with existing methods, the proposed algorithm is validated through detailed numerical simulations. In addition, the proposed algorithm is applied to a group of UAVs in this paper, and the results show that it has more application value.

Sideslip-Compensated Guidance-Based Adaptive Neural Control of Marine Surface Vessels

This article presents an improved guidance law for underactuated marine vessels that compensates cross-track error caused by external disturbances through its sideslip. The proposed guidance law demonstrates improved path-following performance regardless of disturbances, such as waves, winds, and ocean currents. This article also presents an adaptive neural-network (NN) control law for the partially known vessel dynamics with state constraints. For satisfying the state constraints, this control scheme adopts an integral barrier Lyapunov function (iBLF)-based backstepping control technique. It is shown that the closed-loop system remains bounded, and state constraints are always satisfied. Finally, the efficacy of the improved guidance law and iBLF-based adaptive control strategy was verified in simulation and experiments using an autonomous surface vessel.

Data-Based Optimal Synchronization Control for Discrete-Time Nonlinear Heterogeneous Multiagent Systems

This article investigates the optimal synchronization problem for unknown discrete-time nonlinear heterogeneous multiagent systems (MASs). It is very intractable to derive the analytical solutions of coupled Bellman's equations, which are necessary to overcome this problem. We propose a data-based optimal synchronization control strategy based on a hierarchical and distributed optimal control framework composed of a model reference adaptive control (MRAC) layer and a distributed control layer. In the MRAC layer, the similar-offline MRAC algorithm is developed to make subsystems of MASs track their reference models, respectively. Then, the distributed optimal control problem of nonlinear heterogeneous MASs is transformed into that of homogeneous MASs composed of the reference models and the leader. In the distributed control layer, the distributed reference policy iteration algorithm is proposed to derive the solutions of coupled composite nonlinear Bellman's equations, which ensure that the homogeneous MASs reach synchronization with optimum. The suboptimal synchronization control is achieved via optimization further. Convergence analysis of both algorithms is rigorously provided. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Adaptive Finite-Time Containment Control of Uncertain Multiple Manipulator Systems

This article is concerned with the containment control of multiple manipulators with uncertain parameters. A novel distributed adaptive backstepping strategy is given in the finite-time control framework. The finite-time command filters (FTCFs) used in the strategy can avoid the explosion of complexity problem for conventional backstepping. To further improve the control performance, the filtering errors caused by the used FTCFs are removed by using the error compensation mechanism (ECM). The proposed virtual control signal, the control torque, and the adaptive updating law can guarantee the set tracking errors converge to an adjustable neighborhood of the origin in finite time in the presence of uncertain parameters. Because the virtual control signal and ECM only use the local information, the established method is completely distributed. Two simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Guaranteed Synchronization Performance Control of Nonlinear Time-Delay MIMO Multiagent Systems With Actuator Faults

This paper addresses the synchronization control problem of leader-follower multiagent systems with each follower described by a class of high-order nonlinear multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) dynamics in the presence of time delays and actuator faults. A distributed synchronization scheme with guaranteed synchronization performance based on the radial basis function neural network (RBF NN) is introduced. We propose an augmented quadratic Lyapunov function by incorporating the lower bounds of control gain matrices and the actuator healthy indicator, and the problems caused by the unknown time-varying control gain matrices, actuator faults, and coupling terms among agents are solved. Meanwhile, the output of followers can track that of the leader and the steady state, and the transient performance of synchronization can be guaranteed, while all the other signals in the closed-loop system are guaranteed to be bounded. Finally, numerical analysis has been carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Output-Feedback Cooperative Formation Maneuvering of Autonomous Surface Vehicles With Connectivity Preservation and Collision Avoidance

In this paper, a cooperative time-varying formation maneuvering problem with connectivity preservation and collision avoidance is investigated for a fleet of autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) with position-heading measurements. Each vehicle is subject to unknown kinetics induced by internal model uncertainty and external disturbances. At first, a nonlinear state observer is used to recover the unmeasured linear velocity and yaw rate as well as unknown uncertainty and disturbances. Then, observer-based cooperative time-varying formation maneuvering control laws are designed based on artificial potential functions, nonlinear tracking differentiators, and a backstepping technique. The stability of closed-loop distributed formation control system is analyzed based on input-to-state stability and cascade stability. The salient features of the proposed method are as follows. First, cooperative time-varying formation maneuvering with the capability of connectivity preservation and collision avoidance can be achieved in the absence of velocity measurements. Second, the complexity of the cooperative time-varying formation maneuvering control laws is reduced without resorting to dynamic surface control. Third, the uncertainty and disturbance are actively rejected in the presence of position-heading measurements. Simulation results are given to substantiate the proposed output feedback control method for cooperative time-varying formation maneuvering of ASVs with connectivity preservation and collision avoidance.

Cooperative Path Following Ring-Networked Under-Actuated Autonomous Surface Vehicles: Algorithms and Experimental Results

This paper addresses the cooperative path following the problem of ring-networked under-actuated autonomous surface vehicles on a closed curve. A cooperative guidance law is proposed at the kinematic level such that a symmetric formation pattern is achieved. Specifically, individual guidance laws of surge speed and angular rate are developed by using a backstepping technique and a line-of-sight guidance method. Then, a coordination design is proposed to update the path variables under a ring-networked topology. The equilibrium point of the closed-loop system has been proven to be globally asymptotically stable. The result is extended to the cooperative path following the lack of sharing of a global reference velocity, and a distributed observer is designed to recover the reference velocity to each vehicle. Moreover, the cooperative path following the presence of an unknown sideslip is considered, and an extended state observer is developed to compensate for the effect of the unknown sideslip. Both simulation and experimental results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed cooperative guidance law for the path following over a closed curve.

Velocity-Free Leader-Follower Cooperative Attitude Tracking of Multiple Rigid Bodies on SO(3)

A distributed control algorithm is proposed in this paper to achieve the leader-follower cooperative attitude tracking of multiple rigid bodies without using absolute and relative angular velocity information. The nonlinear manifold SO(3) is applied to represent the attitude of each rigid body. By considering the case of limited information exchange, i.e., not all the rigid bodies have access to the leader's information, a novel continuous nonlinear distributed estimator satisfying the rotation matrix dynamics is first introduced for each rigid body to estimate the leader's information asymptotically. Then, two auxiliary systems driven by proper inputs are designed such that the issues due to the angular velocity unavailability are effectively solved. Next, a feasible distributed protocol is designed by implementing the outputs from the distributed estimator and the auxiliary systems. It is demonstrated in terms of Lyapunov theory that, the developed distributed control algorithm ensures the asymptotically stable cooperative attitude tracking of multiple rigid bodies under the weak tree connectivity assumption. Finally, illustrative examples are provided to validate and highlight the proposed results.

Cooperative Tracking Control of Multiagent Systems: A Heterogeneous Coupling Network and Intermittent Communication Framework

This paper proposes a heterogeneous coupling network framework to address the cooperative tracking control problem for multiagent systems with dynamic interaction topology and bounded intermittent communication. By considering the underlying dynamic interaction topology and introducing the adjustable heterogeneous coupling weighting parameters, a bounded consensus condition of cooperative tracking control is proposed. With considering a bounded intermittent communication condition, a class of intermittent cooperative tracking control protocol is designed based on the combination of the individual agent dynamic and the exchange of information among the agents under an appropriate consensus speed constraint. It is proved in the sense of Lyapunov that the cooperative tracking control for the closed-loop multiagent systems can be achieved under the dynamic interaction topology, an appropriate feedback gain matrix, and the intermittent communication information of all agents. The results are further extended to the information consensus protocol with intermittent coordinated constraint information. Finally, two examples are presented to verify the effectiveness.
