Abstract
This paper considers the local exponential synchronization problem for a type of complex dynamical networks (CDNs) with both system delay and coupled delay using saturated delayed impulsive control. Based on the methods of average impulsive interval (AII), average impulsive delay (AID) and average impulsive estimation (AIE), a Razumikhin-type inequality with hybrid delayed impulses (which include delayed impulses and delay-free impulses) is derived. This inequality includes pure delayed impulsive inequalities. By utilizing the constructed inequality and the Lyapunov stability theory, the saturation nonlinearities are treated as the convex hulls, and sufficient synchronization criteria for local exponential synchronization of CDNs are presented in the framework of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Moreover, to enlarge the estimation of region of attraction (ROA) and the design of impulsive control gain, a convex optimization problem based on LMIs is formulated. Finally, a numerical example demonstrates the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract
This paper studies input-to-state stabilization of delayed discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems via aperiodically intermittent control. We first consider aperiodically intermittent time-triggered control, where we present sufficient conditions via the mathematical induction under the hypotheses of the quasiperiodicity condition. Based on the derived sufficient conditions, we apply a Lyapunov-Krasovskii (L-K) method together with the descriptor method to derive the explicit linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) that ensure the exponential stability and input-to-state stability (ISS), and show the existence of the aperiodically intermittent time-triggered controller that leads to efficient results with much less numerical complexity. We next consider aperiodically intermittent dynamic event-triggered control with an additional parameter that is larger than one. This strategy allows that the introduced dynamical variable does not remain constant but increases during the control rest interval. As a result, the proposed dynamic event-triggered strategy leads to a smaller number of sent signals than that for the case of the additional parameter which equals to one. Finally, numerical examples including a practical inverted pendulum on a cart are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.

Abstract
This article is concerned with average consensus of multi-agent systems via intermittent event-triggered strategy. First, a novel intermittent event-triggered condition is designed and the corresponding piecewise differential inequality for the condition is established. Using the established inequality, several criteria on average consensus are obtained. Second, the optimality has been investigated based on average consensus. The optimal intermittent event-triggered strategy in the sense of Nash equilibrium and corresponding local Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation are derived. Third, the adaptive dynamic programming algorithm for the optimal strategy and its neural network implementation with actor-critic architecture are also given. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to show the feasibility and effectiveness of our strategies.

Abstract
This paper considers the aperiodic intermittent control (AIC) for linear time-varying systems (LTVSs), where the occurrence instants are determined by an event triggering mechanism based on Lyapunov functions. For LTVSs, most of the existing results are demanded that the feedback controls are exerted all the time. In fact, in many practical applications, the applied controls are unnecessary/impossible to be imposed all the time. Therefore, the event-triggered AIC is introduced in this paper for LTVSs, and the uniformly stability, globally asymptotic stability and finite-time stability are proposed for LTVSs with event-triggered AIC, respectively. In addition, by using the piecewise constant feedback control method, effective intermittent controllers are designed for LTVSs. Finally, we present two numerical examples to illustrate the efficacy of the derived results.

Abstract
This paper is dedicated to investigating the exponential cluster synchronization in a class of nonlinearly coupled complex networks with non-identical nodes and an asymmetrical coupling matrix. A novel aperiodically intermittent pinning control (APIPC) protocol is presented, which takes full account of the cluster-tree topology structure of the networks and pins only the nodes in the current cluster that have directional links to neighboring clusters. Since it is difficult to precisely determine the intermittent control instants and rest instants of APIPC in advance, the event-triggered mechanism (ETM) is thus proposed. Based on the concept of the minimal control ratio and the segmentation analysis method, sufficient requirements for realizing the exponential cluster synchronization are derived. Moreover, the Zeno behavior of ETM is excluded by rigorous analysis. Eventually, the effectiveness and advantages of the established theorems and control strategies are demonstrated by two numerical simulations.

Abstract
In this paper, we study the network pinning control problem in the presence of two different types of coupling: (i) node-to-node coupling among the network nodes and (ii) input-to-node coupling from the source node to the "pinned nodes." Previous work has mainly focused on the case that (i) and (ii) are of the same type. We decouple the stability analysis of the target synchronous solution into subproblems of the lowest dimension by using the techniques of simultaneous block diagonalization of matrices. Interestingly, we obtain two different types of blocks, driven and undriven. The overall dimension of the driven blocks is equal to the dimension of an appropriately defined controllable subspace, while all the remaining undriven blocks are scalar. Our main result is a decomposition of the stability problem into four independent sets of equations, which we call quotient controllable, quotient uncontrollable, redundant controllable, and redundant uncontrollable. Our analysis shows that the number and location of the pinned nodes affect the number and the dimension of each set of equations. We also observe that in a large variety of complex networks, the stability of the target synchronous solution is de facto only determined by a single quotient controllable block.

Abstract
This article studies the pinning synchronization problem with edge-based decentralized adaptive schemes under link attacks. The link attacks considered here are a class of malicious attacks to break links between neighboring nodes in complex networks. In such an insecure network environment, two kinds of edge-based decentralized adaptive update strategies (synchronous and asynchronous) on coupling strengths and gains are designed to realize the security synchronization of complex networks. Moreover, by virtue of the edge pinning technique, the corresponding secure synchronization problem is considered under the case where only a small fraction of coupling strengths and gains is updated. These designed adaptive strategies do not require any global information, and therefore, the obtained results in this article are developed in a fully decentralized framework. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the availability of the achieved theoretical outcomes.

Abstract
In this paper, the cluster synchronization problem for heterogeneous nonlinear systems with input saturation is studied under both fixed and switching topologies. The distributed feedback controllers are first designed by low gain technique to deal with the input saturation. Sufficient conditions for reaching semi-global cluster synchronization are derived by utilizing the algebraic graph theory, Lyapunov method, and low gain technique. It is shown that the semi-global cluster synchronization problem can be solved by using the proposed synchronization protocols on some preconditions for both fixed and switching topologies. Moreover, under the switching topology, the lower bound of the total activation time for the derived topology with a directed spanning tree is explicitly specified. Finally, some examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed theories.

Abstract
This article investigates a robust guaranteed cost finite-time control for coupled neural networks with parametric uncertainties. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to be time-varying norm bounded, which appears on the system state and input matrices. The robust guaranteed cost control laws presented in this article include both continuous feedback controllers and intermittent feedback controllers, which were rarely found in the literature. The proposed guaranteed cost finite-time control is designed in terms of a set of linear-matrix inequalities (LMIs) to steer the coupled neural networks to achieve finite-time synchronization with an upper bound of a guaranteed cost function. Furthermore, open-loop optimization problems are formulated to minimize the upper bound of the quadratic cost function and convergence time, it can obtain the optimal guaranteed cost periodically intermittent and continuous feedback control parameters. Finally, the proposed guaranteed cost periodically intermittent and continuous feedback control schemes are verified by simulations.

Abstract
In this article, the exponential stability problem for fractional-order complex multi-links networks with aperiodically intermittent control is considered. Using the graph theory and Lyapunov method, two theorems, including a Lyapunov-type theorem and a coefficient-type theorem, are given to ensure the exponential stability of the underlying networks. The theoretical results show that the exponential convergence rate is dependent on the control gain and the order of fractional derivative. To be specific, the larger control gain, the higher the exponential convergence rate. Meanwhile, when aperiodically intermittent control degenerates into periodically intermittent control, a corollary is also provided to ensure the exponential stability of the underlying networks. Furthermore, to show the practicality of theoretical results, as an application, the exponential stability of fractional-order multi-links competitive neural networks with aperiodically intermittent control is investigated and a stability criterion is established. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the theoretical results are demonstrated through a numerical example.

Abstract
This article focuses on the observer-based quasi-synchronization problem of delayed dynamical networks with parameter mismatch under impulsive effect. First, since the state of each node is unknown in the real situation, the state estimation strategy is proposed to estimate the state of each node, so as to design an appropriate synchronization controller. Then, the corresponding controller is constructed to synchronize the slave nodes with their leader node. In this article, we take the impulsive effect into consideration, which means that an impulsive signal will be applied to the system every so often. Due to the existence of parameter mismatch and time-varying delay, by constructing an appropriate Lyapunouv function, we will eventually obtain a differential equation with constant and time-varying delay terms. Then, we analyze its trajectory by introducing the Cauchy matrix and prove its boundedness by contradiction. Finally, a numerical simulation is presented to illustrate the validness of obtained results.

Abstract
This brief investigates the master-slave synchronization problem of delayed neural networks with general time-varying control. Assuming a linear feedback controller with time-varying control gain, the synchronization problem is recast into the stability problem of a delayed system with a time-varying coefficient. The main theorem is established in terms of the time average of the control gain by using the Lyapunov-Razumikhin theorem. Moreover, the proposed framework encompasses some general intermittent control schemes, such as the switched control gain with external disturbance and intermittent control with pulse-modulated gain function, while some useful corollaries are consequently deduced. Interestingly, our theorem also provides a solution for regaining stability under control failure. The validity of the theorem and corollaries is further demonstrated with numerical examples.

Abstract
This paper addresses the pinning synchronization of nonlinear multiple time-varying coupling complex networks. Time-varying inner coupling in the single node state space and time-varying outer coupling among nodes in an entire complex network are taken into consideration. The main contribution is to propose some pinning synchronization criterion by which time-varying complex networks can be synchronized to the desired state. Besides, different parameters of linear controllers, adaptive controllers and adaptive coupling strength on the synchronization have been investigated. It is found that complex networks can achieve global synchronization by adaptively adjusting the coupling strength or controllers. Finally, simulation examples of random networks are given to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract
The article considers the impulsive synchronization for inertial neural networks with unbounded delay and actuator saturation via sampled-data control. Based on an impulsive differential inequality, the difficulties caused by unbounded delay and impulsive effect may be effectively avoid. By applying polytopic representation technique, the actuator saturation term is first considered into the design of impulsive controller, and less conservative linear matrix inequality (LMI) criteria that guarantee asymptotical synchronization for the considered model via hybrid control are given. As special cases, the asymptotical synchronization of the considered model via sampled-data control and saturating impulsive control are also studied, respectively. Numerical simulations are presented to claim the effectiveness of theoretical analysis. A new image encryption algorithm is proposed to utilize the synchronization theory of hybrid control. The validity of image encryption algorithm can be obtained by experiments.

Abstract
This paper comes up with two novel sampled data containment control protocols with intermittent communication for second-order multi-agent systems, where the intermittent communication is periodic. For the protocols with or without time delay, two necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained. In both cases, containment control can be implemented, where each follower can eventually reach the convex hull made up of multiple leaders. In particular, for the protocol with time delay, depending on the size of the time delay, two different conditions are obtained to achieve containment. More interestingly, the result that the smaller the time delay is, the easier it is to calculate the interval of the appropriate sampling period has been found. At last, the correctness of the theoretical results is verified by several simulations.

Abstract
In this article, we consider the distributed synchronization problem of dynamic networked systems with adaptive nonlinear couplings. Based on how the information is collected, the interactions between subsystems are characterized by nonlinear relative state couplings and nonlinear absolute state couplings. In both cases, we show that the considered nonlinear interactions can be used to simulate the couplings with disturbed relative or absolute states. In order to implement the nonlinear couplings in a fully distributed fashion, adaptive control laws are proposed for the adjustment of coupling strengths between connected subsystems. It is shown that the connected network topology is sufficient to ensure the synchronization of dynamic networked systems with the proposed adaptive nonlinear coupling methods. Different from many existing works, the σ -modification technique is used to suppress the increase of the coupling strengths with an additional benefit of preventing the coupling strengths from increasing. Simulation examples are given to assess the performance of the proposed adaptive nonlinear couplings.

Abstract
This paper investigates the exponential bipartite synchronization of a general class of delayed signed networks with multi-links by using an aperiodically intermittent control strategy. The main result is a set of sufficient conditions for bipartite synchronization that depend on the network's topology, control gain, and the maximum proportion of rest time. An application to Chua's circuits is then considered, and some numerical simulation results are presented.

Abstract
This paper proposes a unified theoretical framework to study the problem of finite/fixed-time drive-response anti-synchronization for a class of Markovian stochastic neural networks. State feedback switching controllers without the sign function are designed to achieve the finite/fixed-time anti-synchronization of the addressed systems. Compared with the existing synchronization criteria, our results indicate that the controllers via the switching control without the sign function are given with less conservativeness, and the controllers without any sign function can deal with the chattering problem. By employing Lyapunov functional method and properties of the Weiner process, several finite/fixed-time synchronization criteria are presented and the corresponding settling times are calculated as well. Finally, three numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract
Over the past two decades, the synchronization problem for dynamical networks has drawn significant attention due to its clear practical insight in biological systems, social networks, and neuroscience. In the case where a dynamical network cannot achieve the synchronization by itself, the feedback controller should be added to drive the network toward a desired orbit. On the other hand, the time delays may often occur in the nodes or the couplings of a dynamical network, and the existence of time delays may induce some undesirable dynamics or even instability. Moreover, in the course of implementing a feedback controller, the inevitable actuator limitations could downgrade the system performance and, in the worst case, destabilize the closed-loop dynamics. The main purpose of this paper is to consider the synchronization problem for a class of delayed dynamical networks with actuator saturations. Each node of the dynamical network is described by a nonlinear system with a time-varying delay and the intermittent control strategy is proposed. By using a combination of novel sector conditions, piecewise Lyapunov-like functionals and the switched system approach, delay-dependent sufficient conditions are first obtained under which the dynamical network is locally exponentially synchronized. Then, the explicit characterization of the controller gains is established by means of the feasibility of certain matrix inequalities. Furthermore, optimization problems are formulated in order to acquire a larger estimate of the set of initial conditions for the evolution of the error dynamics when designing the intermittent controller. Finally, two examples are given to show the benefits and effectiveness of the developed theoretical results.

Abstract
This technical correspondence considers finite-time synchronization of dynamical networks by designing aperiodically intermittent pinning controllers with logarithmic quantization. The control scheme can greatly reduce control cost and save both communication channels and bandwidth. By using multiple Lyapunov functions and convex combination techniques, sufficient conditions formulated by a set of linear matrix inequalities are derived to guarantee that all the node systems are synchronized with an isolated trajectory in a finite settling time. Compared with existing results, the main characteristics of this paper are twofold: 1) quantized controller is used for finite-time synchronization and 2) the designed multiple Lyapunov functions are strictly decreasing. An optimal algorithm is proposed for the estimation of settling time. Numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.

Abstract
This paper investigates the synchronization issue of coupled reaction-diffusion neural networks with directed topology via an adaptive approach. Due to the complexity of the network structure and the presence of space variables, it is difficult to design proper adaptive strategies on coupling weights to accomplish the synchronous goal. Under the assumptions of two kinds of special network structures, that is, directed spanning path and directed spanning tree, some novel edge-based adaptive laws, which utilized the local information of node dynamics fully are designed on the coupling weights for reaching synchronization. By constructing appropriate energy function, and utilizing some analytical techniques, several sufficient conditions are given. Finally, some simulation examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract
This paper investigates the global pinning synchronization problem for a class of complex networks with aperiodic samplings. Combined with the Writinger-based integral inequality, a new less conservative criterion is presented to guarantee the global pinning synchronization of the complex network. Furthermore, a novel condition is proposed under which the complex network is globally pinning synchronized with a given performance index. It is shown that the performance index has a positive correlation with the upper bound of the sampling intervals. Finally, the validity and the advantage of the theoretic results obtained are verified by means of the applications in Chua's circuit and pendulum.

Abstract
The cluster synchronization problem is investigated using intermittent pinning control for the interacting clusters of nonidentical nodes that may represent either general linear systems or nonlinear oscillators. These nodes communicate over general network topology, and the nodes from different clusters are governed by different self-dynamics. A unified convergence analysis is provided to analyze the synchronization via intermittent pinning controllers. It is observed that the nodes in different clusters synchronize to the given patterns if a directed spanning tree exists in the underlying topology of every extended cluster (which consists of the original cluster of nodes as well as their pinning node) and one algebraic condition holds. Structural conditions are then derived to guarantee such an algebraic condition. That is: 1) if the intracluster couplings are with sufficiently strong strength and the pinning controller is with sufficiently long execution time in every period, then the algebraic condition for general linear systems is warranted and 2) if every cluster is with the sufficiently strong intracluster coupling strength, then the pinning controller for nonlinear oscillators can have its execution time to be arbitrarily short. The lower bounds are explicitly derived both for these coupling strengths and the execution time of the pinning controller in every period. In addition, in regard to the above-mentioned structural conditions for nonlinear systems, an adaptive law is further introduced to adapt the intracluster coupling strength, such that the cluster synchronization for nonlinear systems is achieved.

Abstract
This paper is concerned with the exponential synchronization issue of nonidentically coupled neural networks with time-varying delay. Due to the parameter mismatch phenomena existed in neural networks, the problem of quasi-synchronization is thus discussed by applying some impulsive control strategies. Based on the definition of average impulsive interval and the extended comparison principle for impulsive systems, some criteria for achieving the quasi-synchronization of neural networks are derived. More extensive ranges of impulsive effects are discussed so that impulse could either play an effective role or play an adverse role in the final network synchronization. In addition, according to the extended formula for the variation of parameters with time-varying delay, precisely exponential convergence rates and quasi-synchronization errors are obtained, respectively, in view of different types impulsive effects. Finally, some numerical simulations with different types of impulsive effects are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of theoretical analysis.

Abstract
In this paper, we study synchronization of heterogeneous linear networks with distinct inner coupling matrices. Firstly, for synchronous networks, we show that any synchronous trajectory will converge to a corresponding synchronous state. Then, we provide an invariant set, which can be exactly obtained by solving linear equations and then used for characterizing synchronous states. Afterwards, we use inner coupling matrices and node dynamics to successively decompose the original network into a new network, composed of the external part and the internal part. Moreover, this new network can be proved to synchronize to the above invariant set by constructing the corresponding desired Lyapunov-like functions for the internal part and the external part respectively. In particular, this result still holds if the coupling strength is disturbed slightly. Finally, examples with numerical simulations are given to illustrate the validity and applicability of our theoretical results.

Abstract
This paper deals with the synchronization problem of a class of coupled stochastic complex-valued drive-response networks with time-varying delays via aperiodically intermittent adaptive control. Different from the previous works, the intermittent control is aperiodic and adaptive, and the restrictions on the control width and time delay are removed, which lead to a larger application scope for this control strategy. Then, based on the Lyapunov method and Kirchhoff's Matrix Tree Theorem as well as differential inequality techniques, several novel synchronization conditions are derived for the considered model. Specially, impulsive control is also considered, which can be seen as a special case of the aperiodically intermittent control when the control width tends to zero. And the corresponding synchronization criteria are given as well. As an application of the theoretical results, a class of stochastic complex-valued coupled oscillators with time-varying delays is studied, and the numerical simulations are also given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control strategies.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the collective dynamics of multisynchronization among heterogeneous genetic oscillators under a partial impulsive control strategy. The coupled nonidentical genetic oscillators are modeled by differential equations with uncertainties. The definition of multisynchronization is proposed to describe some more general synchronization behaviors in the real. Considering that each genetic oscillator consists of a large number of biochemical molecules, we design a more manageable impulsive strategy for dynamic networks to achieve multisynchronization. Not all the molecules but only a small fraction of them in each genetic oscillator are controlled at each impulsive instant. Theoretical analysis of multisynchronization is carried out by the control theory approach, and a sufficient condition of partial impulsive controller for multisynchronization with given error bounds is established. At last, numerical simulations are exploited to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract
In this paper, the finite-time and fixed-time cluster synchronization problem for complex networks with or without pinning control are discussed. Finite-time (or fixed-time) synchronization has been a hot topic in recent years, which means that the network can achieve synchronization in finite-time, and the settling time depends on the initial values for finite-time synchronization (or the settling time is bounded by a constant for any initial values for fixed-time synchronization). To realize the finite-time and fixed-time cluster synchronization, some simple distributed protocols with or without pinning control are designed and the effectiveness is rigorously proved. Several sufficient criteria are also obtained to clarify the effects of coupling terms for finite-time and fixed-time cluster synchronization. Especially, when the cluster number is one, the cluster synchronization becomes the complete synchronization problem; when the network has only one node, the coupling term between nodes will disappear, and the synchronization problem becomes the simplest master-slave case, which also includes the stability problem for nonlinear systems like neural networks. All these cases are also discussed. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the correctness of obtained theoretical results.

Abstract
This paper investigates group synchronization for multiple interacting clusters of nonidentical systems that are linearly or nonlinearly coupled. By observing the structure of the coupling topology, a Lyapunov function-based approach is proposed to deal with the case of linear systems which are linearly coupled in the framework of directed topology. Such an analysis is then further extended to tackle the case of nonlinear systems in a similar framework. Moreover, the case of nonlinear systems which are nonlinearly coupled is also addressed, however, in the framework of undirected coupling topology. For all these cases, a consistent conclusion is made that group synchronization can be achieved if the coupling topology for each cluster satisfies certain connectivity condition and further, the intra-cluster coupling strengths are sufficiently strong. Both the lower bound for the intra-cluster coupling strength as well as the convergence rate are explicitly specified.

Abstract
This paper investigates sampled-data synchronization problem of Markovian coupled neural networks with mode-dependent interval time-varying delays and aperiodic sampling intervals based on an enhanced input delay approach. A mode-dependent augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is utilized, which makes the LKF matrices mode-dependent as much as possible. By applying an extended Jensen's integral inequality and Wirtinger's inequality, new delay-dependent synchronization criteria are obtained, which fully utilizes the upper bound on variable sampling interval and the sawtooth structure information of varying input delay. In addition, the desired stochastic sampled-data controllers can be obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. Abstract
Communication data rates and energy constraints are two important factors that have to be considered in the coordination control of multiagent networks. Although some encoder-decoder-based consensus protocols are available, there still exists a fundamental theoretical problem: how can we further reduce the update rate of control input for each agent without the changing consensus performance? In this paper, we consider the problem of average consensus over directed and time-varying digital networks of discrete-time first-order multiagent systems with limited communication data transmission rates. Each agent has a real-valued state but can only exchange binary symbolic sequence with its neighbors due to bandwidth constraints. A class of novel event-triggered dynamic encoding and decoding algorithms is proposed, based on which a kind of consensus protocol is presented. Moreover, we develop a scheme to select the numbers of time-varying quantization levels for each connected communication channel in the time-varying directed topologies at each time step. The analytical relation among system and network parameters is characterized explicitly. It is shown that the asymptotic convergence rate is related to the scale of the network, the number of quantization levels, the system parameter, and the network structure. It is also found that under the designed event-triggered protocol, for a directed and time-varying digital network, which uniformly contains a spanning tree over a time interval, the average consensus can be achieved with an exponential convergence rate based on merely 1-b information exchange between each pair of adjacent agents at each time step.

Abstract
This paper is concerned with the adaptive pinning synchronization problem of stochastic complex dynamical networks (CDNs). Based on algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov theory, pinning controller design conditions are derived, and the rigorous convergence analysis of synchronization errors in the probability sense is also conducted. Compared with the existing results, the topology structures of stochastic CDN are allowed to be unknown due to the use of graph theory. In particular, it is shown that the selection of nodes for pinning depends on the unknown lower bounds of coupling strengths. Finally, an example on a Chua's circuit network is given to validate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract
In this paper, the exponential synchronization problem of generalized reaction-diffusion neural networks with mixed time-varying delays is investigated concerning Dirichlet boundary conditions in terms of p-norm. Under the framework of the Lyapunov stability method, stochastic theory, and mathematical analysis, some novel synchronization criteria are derived, and an aperiodically intermittent control strategy is proposed simultaneously. Moreover, the effects of diffusion coefficients, diffusion space, and stochastic perturbations on the synchronization process are explicitly expressed under the obtained conditions. Finally, some numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy and show different synchronization dynamics under a periodically/aperiodically intermittent control.
