Suboptimal Leader-to-Coordination Control for Nonlinear Systems With Switching Topologies: A Learning-Based Method

In the cooperative control for multiagent systems (MASs), the key issues of distributed interaction, nonlinear characteristics, and optimization should be considered simultaneously, which, however, remain intractable theoretically even to this day. Considering these factors, this article investigates leader-to-formation control and optimization for nonlinear MASs using a learning-based method. Under time-varying switching topology, a fully distributed state observer based on neural networks is designed to reconstruct the dynamics and the state trajectory of the leader signal with arbitrary precision under jointly connected topology assumption. Benefitted from the observers, formation for MASs under switching topologies is transformed into tracking control for each subsystem with continuous state generated by the observers. An augmented system with discounted infinite LQR performance index is considered to optimize the control effect. Due to the complexity of solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, the optimal value function is approximated by a critic network via the integral reinforcement learning method without the knowledge of drift dynamics. Meanwhile, an actor network is also presented to assure stability. The tracking errors and estimation weighted matrices are proven to be uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, two illustrative examples are given to show the effectiveness of this method.

Parametric Neural Network-Based Model Free Adaptive Tracking Control Method and Its Application to AFS/DYC System

This paper deals with adaptive nonlinear identification and trajectory tracking problem for model free nonlinear systems via parametric neural network (PNN). Firstly, a more effective PNN identifier is developed to obtain the unknown system dynamics, where a parameter error driven updating law is synthesized to ensure good identification performance in terms of accuracy and rapidity. Then, an adaptive tracking controller consisting of a feedback control term to compensate the identified nonlinearity and a sliding model control term to deal with the modeling error is established. The Lyapunov approach is synthesized to ensure the convergence characteristics of the overall closed-loop system composed of the PNN identifier and the adaptive tracking controller. Simulation results for an AFS/DYC system are presented to confirm the validity of the proposed approach.

Adaptive Tracking Control of State Constraint Systems Based on Differential Neural Networks: A Barrier Lyapunov Function Approach

The aim of this article is to investigate the trajectory tracking problem of systems with uncertain models and state restrictions using differential neural networks (DNNs). The adaptive control design considers the design of a nonparametric identifier based on a class of continuous artificial neural networks (ANNs). The design of adaptive controllers used the estimated weights on the identifier structure yielding a compensating structure and a linear correction element on the tracking error. The stability of both the identification and tracking errors, considering the DNN, uses a barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) that grow to infinity whenever its arguments approach some finite limits for the state satisfying some predefined ellipsoid bounds. The analysis guarantees the semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB) solution for the tracking error, which implies the achievement of an invariant set. The suggested controller produces closed-loop bounded signals. This article also presents the comparison between the tracking states forced by the adaptive controller estimated with the DNN based on BLF and quadratic Lyapunov functions as well. The effectiveness of the proposal is demonstrated with a numerical example and an implementation in a real plant (mass-spring system). This comparison confirmed the superiority of the suggested controller based on the BLF using the estimates of the upper bounds for the system states.
