Abstract
Uterine myomas are the most common gynecological disease in reproductive-aged women, present several symptoms, and require effective medical and/or surgical strategies. This study aimed to compare robotic-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy (RALM) with laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) in terms of operative times, intraoperative estimated blood loss, pre- and post-hemoglobin levels drop, and length of hospital stay. Data from 50 clinical records (25 RALM in Group A and 25 LM in Group B) of patients with uterine fibroids were collected from December 2022 to December 2023 at Gynecological Unit of DAI Materno-Infantile Federico II in Naples, Italy. Patients aged 30-49 years with symptomatic fibroids were included. Data on peri-operative outcomes, including operative time for myomectomy (OTM), overall operative time (OOT), intraoperative estimated blood loss (EBL), pre- and post-operative hemoglobin levels, and length of hospital stay were analyzed. The OTM in the presence of > 5 myomas was 59 [52-65] vs 69 min [61-96] (p < 0.001) for RALM and LM groups, respectively. Moreover, also in presence of ≤ 5 myomas, a difference was observed in the RALM group 48[43-55] compared to the LM group 53[50-61] min (p = 0.07). The OOT was also statistically significant for Group A compared to Group B (83[65-93] vs 72[56-110] min, p < 0.001). There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of pre- and post-operative hemoglobin levels and EBL (p = 0.178). Group A demonstrated a notably shorter hospital stay 1.2 [1-2] days compared to Group B 2.9[3-3.75] days (p = 0.007). Our study suggests potential advantages of RALM over LM in terms of reduced operative times and shorter hospital stays. The standardized approach and extensive surgical experience likely contributed to the favorable outcomes of RALM.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Comparing the clinical efficacy of thoracoscopy and robotic surgery in the treatment of mediastinal tumors using meta-analysis. METHODS Computer retrieval of PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases for literature comparing the clinical effects of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and robot-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) in treating mediastinal tumors, with the retrieval time limit from the establishment of the database to September 2023. Two evaluators independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4. RESULTS A total of 19 articles were included, with a total of 3517 patients. The results of the Meta-analysis showed that the RATS group had less intraoperative bleeding [MD = - 5.20, 95%CI (- 9.28, - 1.12), P = 0.01], lower rate of conversion to thoracotomy [OR = 0.41, 95%CI (0.23, 0.72), P = 0.002], lower rate of total postoperative complications [OR = 0.57, 95%CI (0.34, 0.95), P = 0.03], shorter postoperative drainage time [MD = - 0.72, 95%CI (- 1.13, - 0.32), P = 0.0004], and shorter postoperative hospital stay [MD = - 0.90, 95%CI (- 1.16, - 0.65), P < 0.001], in comparison with the VATS group. There was an insignificant difference between the two groups in terms of tumor size [MD = - 0.02, 95%CI (- 0.33, 0.30), P = 0.91] and operation time [MD = 0.17, 95%CI (- 7.61, 7.94), P = 0.97]. However, in regards to hospitalization costs [MD = 2634.75, 95%CI (991.62, 4277.88), P = 0.002], the RATS group was more expensive than the VATS group. CONCLUSION Robot-assisted mediastinal tumor resection surgery has more advantages in terms of intraoperative bleeding, conversion to thoracotomy rate, total postoperative complication rate, postoperative drainage time, and postoperative hospital stay, in comparison with thoracoscopic-assisted mediastinal tumor resection surgery. There is an insignificant difference in tumor size and operation time between the two surgeries. However, robot-assisted mediastinal tumor resection surgery increases hospitalization costs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Systematic evaluation of the efficacy and safety of robotic-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy (RALM) versus laparoscopic myomectomy (LM). METHODS PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science database were searched by computer to seek relevant literature in order to compare the efficacy and safety of RALM with that of LM from the establishment of the databases to January 2023, and Review Manager 5.4 software was utilized to perform a meta-analysis on the literature. RESULTS A total of 15 retrospective clinical controlled studies were included. There exists a total of 45,702 patients, among 11,618 patients in the RALM group and the remaining 34,084 patients in the LM group. Meta-analysis results revealed that RALM was associated with lesser intraoperative bleeding (MD = - 32.03, 95%CI - 57.24 to - 6.83, P = 0.01), lower incidence of blood transfusions (OR = 0.86, 95%CI 0.77 to 0.97, P = 0.01), shorter postoperative hospital stay (MD = - 0.11, 95%CI - 0.21 to - 0.01, P = 0.03), fewer transitions to open stomach (OR = 0.82, 95%CI 0.73 to 0.92, P = 0.0006), and lower incidence of postoperative complications (OR = 0.58, 95%CI 0.40 to 0.86, P = 0.006) than LM, whereas LM is more advantageous in terms of operative time (MD = 38.61, 95%CI 19.36 to 57.86, P < 0.0001). There was no statistical difference between the two surgical methods in terms of maximum myoma diameter (MD = 0.26, 95%CI - 0.17 to 0.70, P = 0.24). CONCLUSION In the aspects of intraoperative bleeding, lower incidence of blood transfusions, postoperative hospital stay, transit open stomach rate, and postoperative complications, RALM has a unique advantage than that of LM, while LM has advantages over RALM in terms of operative time.

Abstract
Background Surgical resection of the thymus is indicated in the presence of primary thymic diseases such as thymoma. Video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robot‐assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) offer a minimally invasive approach to thymectomy. However, there is no clear conclusion whether RATS can achieve an equal or even better surgical effect when compared with VATS in treatment of thymoma. We performed this meta‐analysis to explore and compare the outcomes of RATS versus VATS for thymectomy in patients with thymoma. Methods PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Medline, and Web of Science databases were searched for full‐text literature citations. The quality of the articles was evaluated using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale and the data analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software. Fixed or random effect models were applied according to heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis was conducted. Results A total of 11 studies with 1418 patients, of whom 688 patients were in the RATS group and 730 in the VATS group, were involved in the analysis. Compared with VATS, RATS was associated with less blood loss in operation, lower volume of drainage, fewer postoperative pleural drainage days, shorter postoperative hospital stay, and fewer postoperative complications. There was no significant difference in operative time and patients with or without myasthenia gravis between the two groups. Conclusions RATS has more advantages over VATS, indicating that RATS is better than VATS in terms of postoperative recovery. We look forward to more large‐sample, high‐quality randomized controlled studies published in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The study evaluated the safety and advantages of no using urinary catheters (UCs) during the perioperative period in patients undergoing spontaneous pneumothorax surgery. METHODS Forty-one patients aged 30 years or younger who underwent spontaneous pneumothorax surgery at our hospital between January 2018 and March 2020 were screened. Patients with postoperative recurrence were excluded. Patients were divided into three groups: the indwelling UC group (n = 10, group A), the group with UC removal in the operating room before extubation (n = 23, group B), and the no UC group (n = 8, group C). Perioperative circulatory complications, UC insertion or re-insertion, and time to getting out of bed after surgery and confirmation of initial urination were investigated by group. RESULTS There were no perioperative UC insertions or re-insertions, or perioperative circulatory problems in any group. The median time (interquartile range) required for confirmation of initial postoperative urination was shorter in groups B and C [group A: 13.5 (10.6, 17.3) vs group B: 6.0 (5.0, 6.8) vs group C: 5.5 (3.8, 6.8) h; p = 0.01]. However, the time to getting out of bed after surgery was not significantly different [10.5 (6.4, 15) vs 6.0 (5.0, 7) vs 5.0 (3.8, 8) h; p = 0.12)]. Multivariable analysis showed that group A had a significantly different time to confirmation of initial urination (p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Postoperative and intraoperative avoidance of indwelling UC use is acceptable in spontaneous pneumothorax surgery that satisfies certain conditions. Avoiding UC use has the potential to improve the patient experience and facilitate postoperative management.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to develop a short form of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and calculate the norms for the assessment of anxiety in surgical patients in mainland China. METHODS Patients who were scheduled to carry out pulmonary surgery in our department were included. The sinicized 40-item STAI Form-Y was used to assess the anxiety on the surgery eve. Then the coefficient of variation, coefficient of correlation, stepwise regression analysis, principal component analysis, and structural equation model were successively to filter the items. The reliability and validity of the revised STAI was estimated and the norms were computed. RESULTS 445 intact replies were collected. A 13-item STAI with 6 items in state subscale and 7 items in trait subscale produced similar scores with the full version of STAI. The Cronbach alpha coefficients for the state and trait subscales were 0.924 and 0.936, respectively. The determinant coefficients were 0.781 and 0.822, respectively. Moreover, the norms of both state subscale and trait subscale are provided according to the age and gender. CONCLUSIONS The revised short form of STAI has good reliability and validity. It is likely to be more acceptable by reducing the fatigue effects, and is suitable for follow-up study on the assessment and intervention of perioperative anxiety of surgical patients with pulmonary nodules.

Abstract
The good results of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) combined with minimally invasive surgery are reflected in reducing the incidence of perioperative complications and shortening the length of hospitalization (LOS). It has been widely used in surgical fields of different specialties. The implementation of the day surgery mode can shorten the waiting time for patients and reduce the financial burden. Especially in thoracic surgery, the shorter the waiting time in the hospital, the more beneficial for the patient's physical and psychological recovery. With the widespread implementation of minimally invasive technology and accelerated rehabilitation procedures, the application of ERAS in thoracic surgery has made it possible for some thoracic surgery to be completed in the day surgery. This article summarizes the current application of ERAS in the field of thoracic surgery and the development prospects of day surgery models in China.

Abstract
Enhanced recovery after lobectomy surgery (ERAS) concept has been greatly developed between clinical implementation and minimally invasive surgery. In addition to the minimally invasive surgery, the management of the perioperative catheter has also attracted everyone’s attention. Tubeless minimally invasive treatment includes no urinary catheter placement during the operation and no chest tube after the operation. Here, we summarized all the reports on no urinary catheterization and no chest tube in patients with thoracic surgery and the impact of postoperative length of stay (LOS) and postoperative complications. We find that avoiding chest drain and urinary catheter placement after the surgery appears to be safe and beneficial for patients.
