Abstract
Background The prognosis of AIDS after active antiretroviral therapy (ART) and the quality of life of people living with HIV (PLWH) are both affected by non-AIDS-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the specific risk ratios between PLWH and individuals negative for HIV are poorly understood. We aimed to systematically review and investigate the CVD risk factors associated with HIV. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases between 1 January 2015, and 12 May 2023 for articles reported the prevalence and risk factors of CVD such as hypertension, dyslipidaemia, coronary artery disease (CAD), and myocardial infarction (MI). Due to the high heterogeneity, we used a random-effects model to analyse the data. All statistical analyses were performed using Stata/MP 17.0 with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results We analysed 31 eligible studies including 312 913 PLWH. People living with HIV had higher risks of dyslipidaemia (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.53; 95% CI = 1.29, 1.82), CAD (HR = 1.37; 95% CI = 1.24, 1.51), and MI (HR = 1.47; 95% CI = 1.28, 1.68) compared to individuals without HIV. However, there were no significant differences in the prevalence of hypertension between groups (HR = 1.17; 95% CI = 0.97, 1.41). Subgroup analysis revealed that men with HIV, PLWH who smoked and the elderly PLWH had a high prevalence of CVD. Moreover, the disease prevalence patterns varied among regions. In the USA and Europe, for instance, some HRs for CVD were higher than in other regions. Active ART initiation after 2015 appears to have a lower risk of CVD (hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, CAD). All outcomes under analysis showed significant heterogeneity (I2>70%, P < 0.001), which the available study-level variables could only partially account for. Conclusions People living with HIV had a higher CVD risk than the general population; thus, CVD prevention in PLWH requires further attention. Rapid initiation of ART may reduce the incidence of CVD in PLWH. For timely screening of CVD high-risk individuals and thorough disease management to prevent CVD, further studies are required to evaluate the risk factors for CVD among PLWH, such as age, region, etc. Registration PROSPERO (CRD42021255508).

Abstract
Currently, the life expectancy of people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the general population are similar. Hypertension is a major public health issue in Africa and is largely underdiagnosed. Most HIV-infected individuals, especially those on Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) have hypertension. Our project aims to determine the prevalence of hypertension and associated factors amongst HIV-infected adults treated by ART in Burundi. A cross-sectional study was conducted among HIV-infected subjects over the age of 20, managed in five healthcare centers for people living with HIV (PLWH). The World Health Organization STEPWISE survey and anthropometric measurements were employed. Blood pressure was measured according to the ESC 2018 recommendations. 1 250 HIV-infected patients aged between 35.4 and 50.2 years were included (18.4% men). The prevalence of hypertension was 17.4% (95% CI 13.2-22.1). Approximately 47.25% of HIV patients with hypertension were previously undiagnosed. Other factors were associated with HTN, such as being overweight (OR 2.88; 95% CI 1.46-5.62), obesity (OR 2.65; 95% CI 1.27-5.55), longer duration of HIV infection: ≥ 10 years (OR 1.04; 95% CI 1.14-3.20), diabetes (OR 2.1; 95% CI 1.37-3.32) and age (OR 1.13; 95% CI 1.09-1.14). Despite their young age, almost 20% of HIV-ART treated patients had hypertension, 50% of these were undiagnosed. Blood pressure monitoring is crucial in these patients, especially those identified as high-risk, with prompt life and disability-saving interventions.

Abstract
After thirty-two years since the first domestic outbreak of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/ acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) among injection drug users (IDUs) and almost two decades of comprehensive response efforts by the Chinese government, HIV/AIDS remains a major public health problem. The increasing burden of HIV/AIDS and comorbidities, the emergence of new HIV subtypes and/or circulating recombinant forms and drug mutations, the changing transmission networks, and the urgency of immediate antiretroviral therapy initiation upon an HIV diagnosis are increasingly challenging and altogether likely to have significant impact on the HIV epidemic in China. Upon the call for the global AIDS response to end AIDS by 2030, China needs to develop an innovative and pragmatic roadmap to address these challenges. This review is intended to provide a succinct overview of what China has done in efforts to achieve the global goal of ending AIDS by 2030 and the recently proposed "95-95-95-95" target (95% combination prevention, 95% detection, 95% treatment, 95% viral suppression), and to summarize the most recent progresses in the epidemiological research of HIV/AIDS in China with the aim of providing insights on the next generation of HIV control and prevention approaches and to shed light on upgrading the national strategy to end AIDS in this country.
