Abstract
Addiction nurses are highly skilled providers of holistic care and ensuring workforce sustainability is key to providing quality care to a traditionally marginalised group of healthcare consumers. The aim of this study was to explore perceived stigma towards the addiction nursing speciality, addiction nursing (also known as alcohol and other drug nursing) and its impact on workforce sustainability, retention and recruitment. Secondary analysis of qualitative interview data with nurses (n = 50) and survey data (n = 337) was conducted as part of a workforce mapping exercise in 2019. COREQ reporting guidelines were used. After structural coding was applied, three themes emerged: stigma experienced by clients of alcohol and other drug treatment services, stigma experienced by addiction nurses and a lack of awareness of the specialty of addiction nursing itself. Participants overwhelmingly felt that these forms of stigma made addiction nursing less attractive to new entrants, particularly new nurses and posed a threat to the sustainability of the specialty. The findings from this study indicate that urgent attention is required to address stigma towards individuals who use alcohol and other drugs, and the nurses providing care for them. Furthermore, creating awareness of the addiction nursing specialty is paramount to ensure workforce sustainability and to improve care for individuals who use alcohol and other drugs. Beyond addiction nurses, our results indicate that stigma towards other specialties (such as mental health nursing) is a substantive barrier to workforce sustainability.

Abstract
Alcohol and other drugs (AOD) use is a significant public health issue and is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. Despite this, people who use drugs are often reluctant to seek care due to the lack of trauma-informed treatment and harm reduction treatment options, as well as experiences of stigma and discrimination in health services. Arguably, AOD education that is co-produced with people who use alcohol and drugs can enhance future health professionals' ability to practice in ways that support the needs of this population. This paper reports on a qualitative co-evaluation of a co-produced undergraduate nursing AOD subject. The AOD subject was co-planned, co-designed, co-delivered, and co-evaluated with experts by experience, who have a lived experience of substance dependence and work as advocates and peer workers. Following the delivery of the subject in 2021 and 2022, focus groups were undertaken with 12 nursing students. Focus group data indicate that the co-produced subject supported participants to understand and appreciate how stigma impacts on nursing care and how to recognize and undertake 'good' nursing care that was oriented to the needs of service users. Student participants noted that being co-taught by people who use drugs was particularly powerful for shifting their nursing perspectives on AOD use and nursing care and took learning beyond what could be understood from a book. Findings indicate that co-produced AOD education can shift nursing students' perceptions of AOD use by providing access to tacit knowledge and embodied equitable and collaborative relationships with people who use drugs.

Abstract
Many health problems arise from mental, neurological, and substance use disorders. These disorders are highly prevalent and complex and contribute to poor health outcomes, premature mortality, security risk, social isolation, and global and national economic loss. Mental health and substance use disorders are among Australia's top four causes of disease burden. Our objective was to investigate and synthesize contemporary literature regarding factors that influence nurses' delivery of integrated care to people with combined mental health and substance use disorders within mental health services. We systematically searched five electronic databases with a limit on publications from 2009 to 2021. The search yielded 26 articles. Following thematic analysis, three themes were identified: individual nursing characteristics, nursing education, and professional development characteristics, and organizational factors. This study reveals that there is a fundamental absence of adequate integrative models of care within mental health services to enable the optimal nursing care of people with combined mental health and substance use disorders. Future research is needed to determine nurses' perceptions and factors influencing their role as participants in integrative care. The results could strengthen nurses' contributions in developing/adopting integrative models of care and contribute to clinical, educational, and organizational development.
