The Hemodynamic Effects of H2 Antagonists in Intensive Care Unit Patients

Many critical care patients require intravenously ad ministered H2-receptor antagonists to reduce the acidity of gastric acid secretions and prevent the incidence of stress-related mucosal damage. These patients are often already hemodynamically compromised or unstable. The use of an H2-receptor antagonist that further com promises the cardiovascular status of these critically ill patients could prove detrimental.
