Abstract
Lipomembranous fat necrosis (LFN) is an uncommon but distinct form of fat necrosis, which is characterized by eosinophilic, crenulated and/or serpiginous membranes. LFN exhibits macrocystic, microcystic and/or crushed features. LFN is routinely detectable on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained sections, and is present both in the acute phase and in the later or fibrous stage of necrotic fatty lesions. Smaller crushed LFN embedded within fibrous tissues may be difficult to recognize on H&E-stained sections, but can be highlighted by some staining techniques, including Masson trichrome, periodic acid-Schiff, orcein, long Ziehl-Neelsen stain, silver impregnation, phosphotungstic acid-hematoxylin and luxol fast blue staining. LFN was initially considered a specific feature of Nasu-Hakola disease, but has since been identified in various subcutaneous or intraabdominal lesions related to ischemic conditions or venous insufficiency. In addition, LFN is detectable in intra-articular loose bodies and aortic valves with or without dysfunction, suggesting that LFN is also associated with ischemia-like hypoxic conditions or malnutrition. LFN is considered to be a histological hallmark of hidden ischemic or hypoxic/malnourished conditions in various diseases; however, the exact mechanisms of LFN remain poorly understood. The present review described the clinicopathological features of this interesting, but poorly characterized, condition.

Abstract
Calcinosis cutis is a deposition of calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue which can occur in connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma, dermatomyositis, myositis and overlap syndrome, but rarely in association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is subdivided into a localized 'circumscripta' and diffuse 'universalis'. The few reported cases of calcinosis in SLE were mainly of the circumscripta type. Calcinosis universalis is extremely rare and is usually associated with a history of chronic active SLE in female patients, with few proven effective treatments. We report a case of a young female patient with a long and complicated history of SLE. She presented with widespread pain and tenderness associated with multiple subcutaneous skin lesions. She was found to have evidence of calcinosis universalis on X-rays. Investigations did not reveal any associated conditions that could explain this diagnosis other than her prolonged history of SLE.

Abstract
Panniculitis is an uncommon cutaneous manifestation in dermatomyositis. It not only occurs in idiopathic dermatomyositis, but also rarely occurs in the setting of malignancy-associated dermatomyositis. Calcinosis cutis is also less likely to be found in adult-onset dermatomyositis. In malignancy-associated dermatomyositis, panniculitis can precede, concur, or follow the diagnosis of malignancy. We report the case of a 26-year-old Thai female with calcific panniculitis in the setting of adult-onset dermatomyositis associated with nasopharyngeal cancer. The clinical course of calcific panniculitis in our case was not parallel to the course of malignancy. Calcific panniculitis can appear many years after, despite the remission of the cancer. A thorough review of the previously reported literature is also provided.

Abstract
Lipomembranous changes are distinctive histopathological findings, which include the presence of cystic cavities lined by crenulated, hyaline membranes in adipose tissue. It is likely that ischaemia is fundamental to the development of these lesions, and that lipomembranes are formed from the products of degenerating fat cell membranes by some unknown mechanism. Such changes may be seen, although rarely, in many types of subcutaneous inflammatory processes. However, an association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is rare. We report a patient with SLE who had the histological features of lipomembranous changes associated with vasculopathy.

Abstract
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune systemic disease characterized by small vessel involvement that leads to tissue ischemia and fibroblast stimulation resulting in accumulation of collagen (fibrosis) in the skin and internal organs. Lipomembranous panniculitis is a peculiar type of fat necrosis and has been reported with clinical conditions, commonly with peripheral vascular diseases. We describe a case of a 43-year-old woman with SSc manifestations, who presented with black scaly skin plaques, associated with thickening of the subcutaneous fat tissue, on the lateral surface of her thighs, her calves, gluteal area and lower abdomen. Biopsy revealed lipomembranous panniculitis. Lipomembranous changes have been seen in connective tissue disorders such as lupus profundus, morphea, systemic sclerosis and panniculitis associated with dermatomyositis, but rarely in thighs, calves, gluteal area and lower abdomen.

Abstract
The authors present a rare case of panniculitis ossificans (PO) in a 30-year-old woman. Differential diagnoses and treatment are discussed. PO is an important differential diagnosis to sarcomas.
