Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the increasing emphasis on rehabilitation training after orthopedic surgery, little is known about the pain caused by the procedure itself. Clinical practice is driven by beliefs in pain management. AIMS This study aimed to explore the perspective of pain management during rehabilitation training after orthopedic trauma in China and its influencing factors from different perspectives in traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, respectively. DESIGN A phenomenological qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews. SETTINGS METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted with 16 medical workers working in the Rehabilitation Medicine Department in eastern China from July 2022-February 2023. A directed method to thematic analysis was used to code the transcribed data and identify themes. RESULTS Four main themes emerged. (1) Inconsistent perspectives and practice: Chinese doctors majoring in Western medicine felt sympathy, helpless, and had a lack of knowledge and misconception about pain. Traditional Chinese medicine deemed that pain is a protective mechanism and attached importance to holism and unique means. (2) Consistent outcome: Insufficient pain management will have a series of negative consequences for patients' recovery, forming a vicious cycle. (3) Expectations: Though they are not optimistic about traditional analgesics, enhancement, cooperation and ideal analgesic methods still be expressed, and (4) Concept transformation: Conducting nitrous oxide is a process not only to promote analgesic technology but also to promote the awareness and concept of pain management. CONCLUSIONS Our study emphasized that medical workers should be aware of the importance of pain management at the same time while treating the disability. The study provides insight into pain management experiences within different educational backgrounds. The findings enable professionals to recognize the importance of pain management and its influencing factors to provide feasible and effective pain management strategies.

Abstract
The systematicness of phenomics and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) enable these two disciplines to interlink with each other. This article discussed the similarity in theory and application between TCM and phenomics and illustrates their respective advantages in diagnosis and treatment of diseases, forming a new discipline eventually. Chinese medicine phenomics (Chinmedphenomics) is built on classic TCM, combined with phenomics technology, and the development of which needs the mega cohort with TCM syndrome and the characteristics of precision medicine as well as multi-disciplinary cooperation, which is personalized, precise and promising, providing unique scientific insights into understanding human health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies demonstrated the low evidence-based practice competence of nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. University education may enhance nursing students' evidence-based practice competence. Few studies have investigated traditional Chinese Nursing Bachelor students' evidence-based practice competence. OBJECTIVES To investigate the evidence-based practice competence of traditional Chinese Nursing Bachelor students across all grades and their influencing factors. DESIGN A cross-sectional online study. SETTINGS A traditional Chinese medicine university offering an evidence-based nursing curriculum in Beijing, China. PARTICIPANTS A total of 601 traditional Chinese Nursing Bachelor students were recruited, with a response rate of 70.05%. The junior and senior groups consisted of first- and second-year students, and third- and fourth-year students, respectively. METHODS An online survey was conducted in 2019 using a self-administered questionnaire encompassing attitude, knowledge, and skill. A t-test, non-parametric test, and correlation analysis were used for data analysis. RESULTS Evidence-based practice attitude mean scores were the highest in both groups (3.87 ± 0.48 junior; 3.97 ± 0.45 senior), followed by skill (3.33 ± 0.46 junior; 3.48 ± 0.46 senior) and knowledge (3.21 ± 0.55 junior; 3.52 ± 0.47 senior). In the senior group, attitude decreased (from 4.02 to 3.86). The two groups reported the same items with the lowest scores in all three dimensions. The influencing factors were 1) scientific research experience (Z = -2.87) and a medical literature retrieval course (t = -3.40) for the junior group, 2) completion of the evidence-based nursing course (Z = -2.59) for the senior group, and 3) student admission level (Zjunior = -2.55, Zsenior = -3.85) and English language proficiency (chi-squarejunior = 2.80, chi-squaresenior = 16.37) for both groups. CONCLUSIONS Deficiencies in evidence implementation and decreasing evidence-based practice attitudes among fourth-year students warrant attention. Evidence-based nursing courses could be optimised, and research and English activities enriched to improve evidence-based practice competence.

Abstract
Background An increasing number of systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SRs/MAs) of clinical trials have begun to investigate the effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nursing in patients with stroke. To systematically appraise and synthesize these results, we conducted an overview of SRs/MAs. Methods Eight databases from their inception to April 2020 were searched to include all SRs/MAs on TCM nursing for stroke. Methodological quality assessment was performed using Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2) and evidence quality assessment was performed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Results Eleven SRs/MAs regarding TCM nursing for stroke were included. The assessments with AMSTAR-2 indicated that the methodological quality of all included SRs/MAs was critically low. According to the evaluation results of GRADE, 10 (40%) outcomes were rated as critically low-quality evidence, 7 (28%) low-quality evidence, and 8 (32%) moderate-quality evidence. Descriptive analysis results showed that TCM nursing was effective for stroke. Conclusions All included SRs/MAs suggested positive findings of TCM nursing for stroke, but the credibility of the results is limited. Studies with methodologically rigorous and adequately powered are still needed in this field.

Abstract
Background The aim of this review was to comprehensively summarize and analyze the current guidelines on home-based traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nursing interventions for discharged patients with COVID-19. Methods Eight data sources were searched until June 28, 2020. The frequency of home-based TCM nursing interventions and the use of specific acupuncture points recommended in Chinese guidelines for discharged COVID-19 patients were computed and analyzed. Results In total, we identified 5 Chinese guidelines that provide for home-based TCM nursing interventions for discharged patients with COVID-19. Moxibustion and acupressure were singled out as the most frequently used intervention of the 11 home-based TCM nursing interventions recommended by these guidelines. RN12 and ST36 were the 2 most promoted acupuncture points for moxibustion and acupressure interventions for these patients. Conclusions The present review showed the important role of home-based TCM nursing interventions for discharged COVID-19 patients. However, direct evidence of their efficacy is still insufficient.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this concept analysis was to clarify the meaning and the attributes of traditional Korean (Hanbang) nursing. DATA SOURCE Data sources include Academic Search Complete, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, EBSCOhost, PubMed, MEDLINE, and Research Information Sharing Service. DATA SYNTHESIS We used Walker and Avant's method to analyze the concept of Hanbang nursing. CONCLUSIONS By exploring its common use in the literature, a comprehensive definition of the concept of Hanbang nursing was developed. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE The results of analyzing the current concept of Hanbang nursing will help provide a better understanding of it and contribute to expanding nursing knowledge and developing of a valid and reliable measurement.

Abstract
AIMS To explore the effects of a Traditional Chinese Medicine health educational intervention on the quality of life and self-care agency of elderly patients living with chronic cardiovascular disease. BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The secondary prevention and treatment for chronic cardiovascular disease emphasize the importance of lifestyle modification. However, behavior-changing is difficult and individual choices are influenced by broader environmental factors. The lifestyle intervention for the purpose of self-care enhancing should be considered the driving force from the cultural element. METHODS The study was conducted from April 2014 to October 2014. Ninety-eight community dwelling individuals with chronic cardiovascular disease were recruited from Shaoxing and randomized. 48 participants were in the intervention group with a 6-month Traditional Chinese Medicine health education and 50 participants were in the control group with routine care. The main measurements included health-related quality of life and self-care agency, which was assessed by the Short Form-36 Chinese version and the Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale respectively, and were measured at the baseline and post intervention (6months after baseline). RESULTS After 6months of intervention, the quality of life and self-care agency in the intervention group were significantly improved. CONCLUSIONS The traditional Chinese medicine health education is an effective method for promoting quality of life and self-care agency in cardiovascular disease patients. It could be applied as adjunctive care for cardiovascular disease patients self-care supporting.

Abstract
To overcome challenges associated with optimizing function and physical activity among hospitalized older adults, we developed function-focused care for acute care (FFC-AC). The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of this intervention. We hypothesized that hospitalized trauma patients exposed to FFC-AC would (1) maintain or improve function, spend more time in physical activity, and have fewer adverse events between admission and discharge; and (2) maintain or improve function, have less fear of falling, fewer depressive symptoms, less pain, be more physically resilient, and be less likely to experience adverse events at 1 month postdischarge compared with those exposed to FFC-education only (EO). FFC-AC was implemented by a research function-focused care nurse who worked on the participating units for 20 hr a week for 16 months to implement the three components of FFC-AC. The sample included 89 older orthopedic trauma patients the majority of whom were female (N = 59, 66%), white (N = 82, 92%), and not married (N = 53, 59%). At discharge and/or 30 days postdischarge, participants in the treatment site showed greater improvement in function, less fear of falling, and better physical resilience when compared with those in the FFC-EO site. Future research is needed to continue to work on engaging staff in function-focused care approaches and optimizing the hospital environment and policies to support nurses in this type of care approach.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the therapeutic benefit of combining moxibustion and rehabilitation training for functional recovery in post-stroke spastic hemiplegic patients. METHODS We randomly divided 84 cases subjecting to inclusion criteria into moxibustion plus rehabilitation training group (MRT group, n=44) and rehabilitation training group (RT group, n=40). Evaluation of therapeutic effect was observed before treatment, 2 weeks during treatment and 6 months after treatment. Spasticity was evaluated using modified Ashworth scale (MAS) and Clinical Spasticity Index (CSI), recovery of motor function was assessed by Brunnstrom recovery stages and Simplified Fugl-Meyer Motor Scale, and performance of activities of daily living (ADL) was measured, and the quality of life was assessed by Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO). RESULTS Evaluation of upper limbs, hands and lower limbs based on CSI and MAS revealed significant improvements in patients treated with MRT, compared to RT alone, both during and after therapy. CSI and MAS also showed significant improvement in patients at each time point in the MRT group, compared to RT group. Marked improvement in Fugl-Meyer Motor Scale was also observed in MRT group at each time point. Based on Brunnstrom grades of upper limbs, hands and lower limbs, significant differences between the two groups were recorded at all time points during and after therapy. Barthel index (BI) and PRO also confirmed the dramatic differences between the two therapy groups. CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate that combination therapy with moxibustion and rehabilitation training offers greater clinical benefits in relieving spasticity, promoting function recovery of motion, improving the performance of ADL, and increasing quality of life in post-stroke spastic hemiplegic patients, compared to RT alone.

Abstract
Research evidence suggests that educating nurses about traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) significantly improves their nursing care practice and the health care outcomes of community residents. The purpose of this study was to describe the current use of TCM by China's nursing workforce, as well as the typical nurse to physician ratio and types of TCM education that nurses receive in health care facilities. A large retrospective survey was conducted in Hubei Province, China, in 2010. The sample included 620 non-TCM hospitals, 120 TCM hospitals, and 1254 community health centers (CHCs). Descriptive analysis and 1-way analysis of variance were used to test statistical differences. There were 79 447 nurses employed, of which 1527 had a TCM degree and 5689 had on-the-job TCM education. Non-TCM hospitals employed more nurses than TCM hospitals and CHCs, and TCM hospitals employed more TCM nurses than non-TCM hospitals and CHCs. The median nurse to physician ratio varied by level of urbanization and type of health care facility, from 0.6 in rural CHCs to 1.3 in rural non-TCM hospitals. Differences in TCM education preparation of nurses were significantly different in the urban and rural settings and by type of health care facility. The study suggested a shortage of nurses educated in TCM in Hubei Province China, as well as uneven TCM workforce distribution. More opportunities for TCM education are needed for nurses, especially in CHCs where health promotion and chronic disease management are the most important and mandated functions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND On 8 May 2013, the Chinese Nursing Association joined the International Council of Nurses. It is hoped that by sharing the history of nursing in China, scholars globally can incorporate into current thinking the challenges that Chinese nurses have faced in pursuing educational development and professional acknowledgement. AIM To review the history of nurse education in China between 1887 and 1949 and summarize events marking its development; and to provide historical references for considering contemporary nurse education and discipline development in China. METHODS Content analysis using bibliometric and historical research methods on available documentation sources. Milestone events were listed and their historical significance analysed. RESULTS Nurse education development during this period was affected by three major influences: (1) international nursing collaboration and involvement with Chinese nursing in China and abroad, (2) the determination of leaders to develop nursing as a unique and ethical profession, and (3) the pressure of war and civilian need on the focus of nursing development in China. CONCLUSION The development of nurse education in China occurred within an environment of social change, war and international collaboration. Throughout the Modern China period (1887-1949), nursing leadership has guided the growth of nurse education to be responsive to individual and community needs as well as ensuring nurse accountability for conduct and nursing practice. Contemporary Chinese nursing and education owes much to those throughout the Modern China period, who laid the foundations that support the current position and status of nursing. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY The study displays the benefits and challenges of participation in policy and forums that help nurse scholars and practitioners understand the development of nurse education in China.
