Abstract
PURPOSE One psychosocial risk factor that has drawn attention is work-related stress, although it is still unclear how exactly this risk factor relates to poor health. Prospective observational studies have found a 40%-50% raise in the incidence of coronary heart disease in those who experience chronic stress at work and in their personal lives. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK In the recent decade, there has been a rise in the requirement for firms to gather information on job stress on employees that leads to coronary heart disease. As a result, this study on trends in Coronary Heart Disease induced by Work Stress becomes necessary to examine all of these efforts. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY This research employs bibliometric analysis and charting to describe the growth and structure of the research field of work-related stress causing coronary heart disease. The field's conceptual framework and research boundaries, the connections between publications and the contributors, key phrases, the latest networks of collaboration, the most prevalent concepts, and the most cited authors are all revealed by our findings. FINDINGS Research found that this field has seen a significant increase in research on coronary heart disease in recent years. Because it has been demonstrated that there is a rise in deaths from cardiovascular disease, researchers, academics, and professionals should be made aware of how stress can lead to coronary heart disease. ORIGINALITY/VALUE The study suggests that workplace health should be a priority for both developed and developing nations, and it must be disseminated in several languages.

Abstract
PURPOSE The current study aimed to investigate the associations between metabolic syndrome (MetS) with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using multilevel analysis among the Iranian adult population. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in the framework of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS). Participants were 6113 participants (3318 women and 2795 men) aged≥20 years of the TLGS seventh phase who had completed data on HRQoL and MetS. HRQoL was assessed using the short-form 12-item health survey V.2 and MetS defined based on the guidelines outlined in the Joint Interim Statement. The two-level model was fitted to assess the association between MetS and HRQoL. RESULTS The prevalence of MetS and its components was higher in men, and regardless of metabolic status, men exhibited higher HRQoL values. The deleterious impact of MetS on HRQoL was more pronounced in women, while the detrimental effects of MetS on men's HRQoL were confined to specific subscales. These results were obtained through multilevel analysis, considering both familial and individual variation levels. Moreover, our investigation highlighted the positive influence of leisure-time physical activity on both the physical and mental component summaries (PCS and MCS, respectively), regardless of gender. Education had a greater positive impact on PCS in both sexes. Additionally, a history of cardiovascular diseases was associated with a decline in mental and physical HRQoL, while age was linked to a decline in PCS and MCS, and smoking was associated with a decline in MCS. CONCLUSION This study revealed the significant influence of gender, as well as the unique characteristics and circumstances of individuals, on the relationship between MetS and HRQoL in a general population with low/middle income.

Abstract
Daily activities and occupation can significantly influence health conditions, so a health assessment related to occupational factors is essential to reduce the risk of the disease. One of the leading causes of mortality from cardiovascular disease worldwide is hypertension. This study aims to determine the correlation between the type of occupation toward blood pressure and cholesterol levels in individuals with hypertension. This paper was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The population was individuals with hypertension at Depok 2 Public Health Centre, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. In addition, the sample was 121 respondents with consecutive sampling. The independent variable was the type of occupation, and the dependent variables were blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Instruments were a questionnaire to evaluate the characteristics of respondents and the type of occupation, a digital sphygmomanometer to examine blood pressure, and cholesterol test kits to assess cholesterol levels. The data analysis used the Chi-Square test with α=0.05. Most respondents were female (59.5%) and aged 60-69 years old (47.1%). They worked in the informal sector (81.2%). In addition, they had grade 1 hypertension (52.1%). There was no significant correlation between the type of occupation and blood pressure in individuals with hypertension (p=0.248). In addition, most respondents had high cholesterol levels (50.4%). Furthermore, there was no significant association between the type of occupation and cholesterol levels in individuals with hypertension (p=0.128). In conclusion, the type of occupation is not a risk factor for increased blood pressure and cholesterol levels in individuals with hypertension.

Abstract
These days, it is not common for people to have time to do physical activities regularly because of their own work. So, they perform physical activities all at once, which is often called the "weekend warrior". Therefore, this study aimed to examine the association of the "weekend warrior" and other physical activity patterns with metabolic syndrome. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used, and 27,788 participants were included. The participants were divided into inactive, weekend warriors, and regularly active based on physical activity patterns. The risk of metabolic syndrome in each group was analyzed using multiple logistic regression. The inactive and weekend warrior groups showed a higher likelihood of developing metabolic syndrome than the regularly active groups (weekend warrior: odds ratio (OR) 1.29, confidence interval (CI) 1.02-1.65; inactive: OR 1.38, CI 1.25-1.53). According to the physical activity patterns, the weekend warrior group showed a dose-response relationship compared to the regularly active group (only moderate: OR 1.85, CI 1.25-2.72; only vigorous: OR 1.41, CI 0.93-2.14; both: OR 0.84, CI 0.56-1.27). This study found increasing the amount of physical activity and performing vigorous-intensity physical activity helped manage metabolic syndrome in the weekend warrior group.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a highly prevalent disorder defined as a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors including obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. It is believed that excessive cortisol secretion due to psychosocial stress-induced hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activation might be involved in the pathogenesis of MetS. We sought to explore the association between MetS and psychosocial risk factors, as well as cortisol concentration measured in different biological specimens including saliva, blood serum, and hair samples. The study was conducted on a sample of 163 young and middle-aged men who were divided into groups according to the presence of MetS. Hair cortisol concentration (HCC) was determined using high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection, while blood serum and salivary cortisol levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunoassay. Lipid metabolism biomarkers were determined using routine laboratory methods. Anthropometric and lifestyle characteristics, as well as self-reported psychosocial indicators, were also examined. Significantly higher HCC and lower social support level among participants with MetS compared with individuals without MetS were found. However, no significant differences in blood serum and salivary cortisol levels were observed between men with and without MetS. In conclusion, chronically elevated cortisol concentration might be a potential contributing factor to the development of MetS.

Abstract
This meta-analysis investigates the relationship between both shift work and long working hours and risk of developing metabolic syndrome (MetS). PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were searched from the outset to December 10, 2019. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias of included studies. A total of 36 (30 cross-sectional, 5 cohort, and a nested case-control) studies, involving 274,263 participants, were included. The pooled odds ratio of shift work and development of MetS was 1.35 (95% confidence interval: 1.24-1.48), and the pooled odds ratio of long working hours and development of MetS was 1.19 (95% confidence interval: 0.97-1.46). In the subgroup analysis stratified by gender, the pooled odds ratios for male and female shift workers were 1.25 (95% confidence interval: 1.14-1.37) and 1.47 (95% confidence interval: 1.18-1.82), respectively. The dose-response (number of years of shift work and development of MetS) analysis showed the pooled odds ratio for 5 years of shift work was 1.07 (95% confidence interval: 1.05-1.09) and for 10 years of shift work 1.11 (95% confidence interval: 1.06-1.15). Our meta-analysis confirmed shift work is significantly associated with risk of metabolic syndrome, but the relationship between long working hours and MetS was not substantiated. Additionally, there was a nonlinear dose-response relationship between the number of years of shift work and risk of MetS, showing positive relationship to about 20 years of shift work but not for longer than 20 years. Prospective cohort studies regarding specific shift work schedules are needed to confirm these results.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the association between shift work and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and quantify the roles of sleep, gender, and type of shift work. We searched online databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science on November 17, 2019. Of the 821 articles identified, 38 observational studies (27 cross-sectional, 10 cohorts, and one nested case-control), conducted on 128,416 participants, met our eligibility criteria. The pooled Odds ratio (OR) and 95% Confidence interval (CI) of MetS in shift-versus day-workers were estimated as 1.14 (1.07, 1.21) and 1.11 (1.06, 1.17) for the unadjusted and adjusted models. This association remained significant only for the studies with a cross-sectional design. There was a significantly higher odds of MetS in the studies conducted only on females (1.13 [1.06, 1.20]) or males (1.12 [1.02, 1.21]). The pooled adjusted OR (95% CI) for the studies without and with sleep adjustment was calculated as 1.14 (1.08, 1.21) and 1.29 (1.06, 1.52). We observed that rotating shift workers had stronger odds of MetS than the other shift workers. In conclusion, our findings revealed the significant odds of an association between shift work and MetS and different effects for sleep, gender, and type of shift work.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Studies from recent decades have suggested that women have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than men due to their characteristics, but hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia caused by IR (insulin resistance) might reverse this gender-protective effect. This study examined whether there were sex differences in the relationship between IR [evaluated by triglyceride and glucose index (TyG index)] and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in hypertensive patients without diabetes. METHODS This was a post-hoc analysis of the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT). We explored the relationship between TyG index and MACEs by multivariate Cox proportional hazard regressions and two-piecewise linear regression models. The primary endpoint was MACEs, same as SPRINT, defined as a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and/or death from cardiovascular causes. We used multiple adjustment models for all regressions. RESULTS A total of 9,323 patients from the SPRINT were included in our analysis. TyG index was significantly related to the risk of MACEs in every adjusted model. Each 1 unit increase in TyG index increased the risk of MACEs in total participants (HR, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.20-1.64; P<0.01) and men (HR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.18-1.71; P=0.02). However, TyG index was not associated with MACEs among female hypertensive patients (HR, 1.33; 95% CI, 0.97-1.82; P=0.0776). There was no interaction between the sex and TyG index (P for interaction= 0.73). We also used the two-stage linear regression model and did not find any threshold effect. There was no significant interaction in other confounders. CONCLUSION We found the TyG index was associated with MACEs in the hypertensive patients, and there was no gender difference between the TyG index and MACEs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyperglycemia is a major public health concern. An understanding of the latest trends of the global burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) by high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG) is critical for determining research priorities and planning health policy. METHODS This is a comparative burden-of-disease study. We obtained global, regional, and national data on deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of NCDs attributable to HFPG from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017, performed a secondary analysis of deaths and DALYs by time, age, gender, location, and specific causes, and analyzed their associations. RESULTS In 2017, 6.39 million deaths and 166.36 million DALYs from NCDs were attributable to HFPG, accounting for 15.6% and 10.7% of all deaths and DALYs, respectively. The burden's rate decreased with time, increased with age and was significantly higher in males. A negative association was found between the sociodemographic index (SDI) and disease burden, and a positive association was found between SDI and male superiority by gender difference and gender ratio. CONCLUSIONS The burden of NCDs attributable to HFPG has increased significantly since 1990 and varied widely across regions. Greater efforts are needed to prevent and control hyperglycemia, especially in less developed countries and among males.

Abstract
Literature suggests that occupational stress is associated with a higher risk of metabolic syndrome; yet less is known whether other sources of stress have similar effects. This review aims to examine whether the relationship between psychological stress and metabolic syndrome differs by sources of stress. Three databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL) were searched for eligible articles; meta-analyses were conducted using the random effects model. After controlling for covariates, adults in the high-stress groups had 45% higher chance of having metabolic syndrome than adults in the low-stress groups (odds ratio [OR] = 1.450; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.211-1.735; P < .001). The subsequent meta-analysis based on cross-sectional studies suggested that occupational stress showed the strongest effect (OR = 1.692; 95% CI, 1.182-2.424; P = .004), while perceived general stress showed the weakest effect (OR = 1.217; 95% CI, 1.017-1.457; P = .032). Unfortunately, there is a lack of longitudinal studies for subsequent meta-analysis based on sources of stress. There is a need for continued research to examine the long-term relationship between different sources of stress and the risk of metabolic syndrome. Traditional recommendations for preventing metabolic syndrome (eg, low-fat diet and exercise) may not achieve the best outcome if clinicians overlook patients' psychosocial stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE This study analyzed health-related factors for metabolic syndrome (Mets) among workers in South Korea. SUBJECTS/METHODS This analysis included 4,666 adults aged 19–64 years to analyzed health-related risk factors for Mets from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016). The sociodemographic, working, health-related, and biochemical characteristics were presented as percentages (%) by chi-square tests. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and associations between health-related factors characteristic of workers and the odds ratios of Mets. RESULTS An increased prevalence of Mets was associated with male day workers compared to male shift workers (1.726-fold increase, 95% CI: 1.077–2.765), and with ≥ 8 hrs/day sleep duration compared to < 6 hrs/day sleep duration in female workers (2.133-fold, 95% CI: 1.041–4.368). In addition, reduced odds of high Mets were associated with male workers consumed of breakfast 5–7 times/wk compared to those consumed < 1 time/wk (0.593-fold decrease, 95% CI: 0.372–0.944). CONCLUSIONS Health-related factors (sleep duration, frequency of breakfast) and working type in Korean workers may affect the prevalence of Mets.

Abstract
Despite the implications of gender and sex differences for health risks associated with blue-collar work, adverse health outcomes among blue-collar workers has been most frequently studied among men. The present study provides a "state-of-the-field" systematic review of the empiric evidence published on blue-collar women's health. We systematically reviewed literature related to the health of blue-collar women published between January 1, 1990 and December 31, 2015. We limited our review to peer-reviewed studies published in the English language on the health or health behaviors of women who were presently working or had previously worked in a blue-collar job. Studies were eligible for inclusion regardless of the number, age, or geographic region of blue-collar women in the study sample. We retained 177 studies that considered a wide range of health outcomes in study populations from 40 different countries. Overall, these studies suggested inferior health among female blue-collar workers as compared with either blue-collar males or other women. However, we noted several methodological limitations in addition to heterogeneity in study context and design, which inhibited comparison of results across publications. Methodological limitations of the extant literature, alongside the rapidly changing nature of women in the workplace, motivate further study on the health of blue-collar women. Efforts to identify specific mechanisms by which blue-collar work predisposes women to adverse health may be particularly valuable in informing future workplace-based and policy-level interventions.

Abstract
While epidemiological studies provide statistical evidence on associations of exposures such as stressful work with elevated risks of stress-related disorders (e.g., coronary heart disease or depression), additional information on biological pathways and biomarkers underlying these associations is required. In this contribution, we summarize the current state of the art on research findings linking stressful work, in terms of an established theoretical model-effort-reward imbalance-with a broad range of biomarkers. Based on structured electronic literature search and recent available systematic reviews, our synthesis of findings indicates that associations of work stress with heart rate variability, altered blood lipids, and risk of metabolic syndrome are rather consistent and robust. Significant relationships with blood pressure, heart rate, altered immune function and inflammation, cortisol release, and haemostatic biomarkers were also observed, but due to conflicting findings additional data will be needed to reach a firm conclusion. This narrative review of empirical evidence supports the argument that the biomarkers under study can act as mediators of epidemiologically established associations of work stress, as measured by effort-reward imbalance, with incident stress-related disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current medical practice is grounded in a biomedical model that fails to effectively address multifaceted lifestyle and morbidogenic environmental components that are the root causes of contemporary chronic diseases. Utilizing the biopsychosocial (BPS) model in medical school training may produce competent healthcare providers to meet the challenge of rising chronic illnesses that are a result of these factors. This study explored the current trend of research on the utility of the BPS model in medical education and examined medical school curricula that have explicitly adopted the BPS model. METHODS A systematic review of peer-reviewed literature was conducted on the BPS model and medical education since the 1970s using multiple databases. Descriptive analysis was used to illustrate findings regarding the trends of the BPS model in medical education and its utility in specific medical schools in the United States. RESULTS Major findings illustrated a growing trend in research on the BPS model in medical education since the 1970s with literature in this area most visible since 2000. The same trend was established for the incorporation of psychosocial or behavioral and social science components in medical education. From our peer-reviewed literature search, only 5 medical schools featured utility of the BPS model in their curricula utilizing variable educational processes. CONCLUSION Although literature regarding the BPS model in medical education is growing, the explicit utility of the BPS model in medical school is limited. Our findings can stimulate educational processes and research endeavors to advance medical education and medical practice to ensure that future doctors can meet the challenge of rising lifestyle and environmental associated illnesses.

Abstract
Background:
Metabolic syndrome (MSx) is associated with several health problems. Workers
are an important part of any organization.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of MSx and related variables among office workers.
Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated 1488 office workers in Qom province, Central
Iran, by using a multi-stage cluster sampling. Diagnosis of MSx was based on blood HDL-cholesterol,
triglyceride, and fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels and waist circumference, and blood
pressure.
Results: The overall prevalence of MSx was 35.9% (95% CI 33.5% to 38.3%), higher in
men (37.2%) than in women (20.6%), and increased with age. The most common laboratory
findings of MSx were hypertriglyceridemia (45.9%) and low HDL-cholesterol level (45.5%).
Office workers with MSx had a significantly (p<0.001) higher body mass index than those
without MSx. Lack of regular leisure time physical activity (p=0.003), and low intake of fruits
(p=0.02) were associated with MSx. Conclusion: The prevalence of MSx was very high among office workers. Workplace health
improvement programs through identifying and preventing MSx are necessary for improvement
of staff's health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the prevalence and associated factors of work-related depression among the employees of a shoe manufacturing factory in Haiphong City, Vietnam. MATERIAL AND METHODS We carried out this cross-sectional study among 420 workers in 2012 in Le Lai II Shoe Manufacturing Factory in Haiphong City, Vietnam using Karasek's Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (DSM IV) tool for measuring depression. RESULTS The study results show that a relatively high proportion of workers (20.7%) belongs to the high-strain group based on Karasek's model. The prevalence of work-related depression among workers was relatively high (18.8%). The factors associated with depression at work were high psychological demand (adjusted OR = 3.0, 95% CI: 1.1-8.3), low social support (adjusted OR = 4.7, 95% CI: 1.2-12.8), inadequate work protection materials (OR = 4.1, 95% CI: 2.2-10.1) and work absenteeism (OR = 6.2, 95% CI: 2.5-18.9). CONCLUSIONS Strengthening the social support network (involving supervisors and co-workers), reducing psychological job demand and assuring work protection materials at the workplace may highly facilitate reducing work-related depression.
