The Novel Compounds with Biological Activity Derived from Soil Fungi in the Past Decade

The secondary metabolites isolated from soil fungi have received more and more attention, especially new compounds that exhibited good biological activities. In this review, a total of 546 new compounds are included in the relevant literature since 2011. The new compounds are isolated from soil fungi, We divided these compounds into seven categories, including alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, ketones, phenylpropanoids, quinones, esters, lactones, etc. In addition, the biological activities and structure-activity relationships of these compounds have also been fully discussed. The activities of these compounds are roughly divided into eight categories, including anticancer activity, antimicrobial activity, anti-inflammatory activity, antioxidant activity, antiviral activity, antimalarial activity, immunosuppressive activity and other activities. Since natural products are an important source of new drugs, this review may have a positive guiding effect on drug screening.

Opciones terapéuticas frente a especies de Candida resistentes a las equinocandinas

<p><strong>Introducción</strong>: La infección por levaduras del género <em>Candida</em> representa la causa más común de infecciones fúngicas invasivas. Su alta incidencia y la creciente resistencia frente a los azoles y, recientemente, a las equinocandinas ha generado la necesidad de buscar nuevas alternativas farmacológicas. Esta revisión presenta las principales alternativas farmacológicas en estudio frente a <em>Candida</em> resistente a equinocandinas. <strong>Métodos</strong>: Se buscó literatura referente al tema en las bases de datos Bireme, Clinical Key, Embase, Cochrane, Lilacs, Pubmed y Scopus. Se incluyeron 15 artículos en esta revisión. <strong>Resultados</strong>: Se exploran diferentes alternativas, incluyendo el aumento de dosis de las equinocandinas, su combinación con otros medicamentos y nuevos compuestos en estudio. <strong>Conclusión</strong>: A pesar de que las infecciones por <em>Candida</em> resistente a equinocandinas aún representan un desafío, dos alternativas farmacológicas se presentan como promisorias: la combinación con medicamentos existentes como el diclofenaco y nuevos compuestos que se encuentran actualmente en fase II de estudios clínicos.</p><p> </p>

Review of advances in the thin layer chromatography of pesticides: 2012-2014

Publications reporting techniques and applications of thin layer chromatography (planar chromatography) for the separation, detection, qualitative, and quantitative determination, and preparative isolation of pesticides and their metabolites are reviewed for the period from November 1, 2012 to November 1, 2014. Analyses are described for a variety of sample types and pesticide classes. In addition to references on residue analysis, studies such as pesticide structure - retention relationships, identification and characterization of natural and synthesized pesticides, metabolism, bioactivity, degradation, soil mobility, and lipophilicity are covered.

(Post-)genomics approaches in fungal research

To date, hundreds of fungal genomes have been sequenced and many more are in progress. This wealth of genomic information has provided new directions to study fungal biodiversity. However, to further dissect and understand the complicated biological mechanisms involved in fungal life styles, functional studies beyond genomes are required. Thanks to the developments of current -omics techniques, it is possible to produce large amounts of fungal functional data in a high-throughput fashion (e.g. transcriptome, proteome, etc.). The increasing ease of creating -omics data has also created a major challenge for downstream data handling and analysis. Numerous databases, tools and software have been created to meet this challenge. Facing such a richness of techniques and information, hereby we provide a brief roadmap on current wet-lab and bioinformatics approaches to study functional genomics in fungi.
