Abstract
Adolescent health literacy is critical for navigating the complex landscape of modern healthcare and making informed decisions that influence long-term health outcomes. This comprehensive review synthesizes current research on integrating digital tools and interactive learning approaches to enhance health literacy among adolescents. We explore the use of digital technologies, such as mobile apps and virtual reality, which cater to the preferences of this tech-savvy generation, offering personalized and accessible health information. The effectiveness of interactive learning methodologies, including simulations and role-playing, is also examined, highlighting their potential to increase engagement and retention of health-related knowledge. We address the importance of mental health literacy and the role of social media and peer education in disseminating health information effectively. Our review identifies gaps in the current literature, particularly the need for studies that consider long-term outcomes and the impact of socioeconomic and cultural factors on health literacy initiatives. We propose a multidimensional approach to health literacy education that incorporates innovative technologies and interactive methods to meet the diverse needs of adolescents in various contexts. The findings suggest that an integrated approach, including digital and critical health literacy, is essential for developing comprehensive health education programs that are both informative and engaging for adolescents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital services can be effective and cost-efficient options for treating non-communicable diseases, but generalizability is limited due to heterogeneous treatment effects. This umbrella review aims to evaluate the impact of digital services on population health, costs, and patient and healthcare professional satisfaction, and to identify facilitators and barriers to using digital services in healthcare and social welfare. METHODS The protocol of the study was registered on the 4th of September 2022 to the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews, PROSPERO (CRD42022355635). The review was performed using the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, Cochrane, Ovid Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science in June 2022. The methodological quality of the included reviews was assessed. The impact of digital services was categorized as no evidence, no dominance, and mixed and positive effect. Inductive content analysis was used to identify facilitators and barriers. RESULTS A total of 66 studies were included in the review, 64 % of which were evaluated as high quality. Studies on the impact of digital services in social welfare were not identified. Sixty-five percent of reviews evaluated the impact of digital services on population health with mixed effects; 21 % were on costs with mixed effects; 27 % were on patient satisfaction with positive effects; and 7.6 % were on healthcare professionals' satisfaction with mixed effects. Various features, allocation, end-user support, organized services, and service development facilitated the use of digital services. Correspondingly, barriers were related to service limitations, digital competency, funding- and service strategies, resources and change management. CONCLUSIONS Compared to usual care, digital services had a mixed impact on population health and costs with high satisfaction in patients. Mixed healthcare professionals' satisfaction was associated with the use of digital services, and it was less studied. To ensure successful implementation and sustainability of digital services, attention must be paid to address barriers and supporting facilitators at all levels.

Abstract
Introduction Adolescents and young adults (AYA) living with chronic medical conditions often struggle to develop medication adherence skills. This pilot trial evaluated the impact of a mobile health coaching intervention, Cell Phone Support (CPS), on medication adherence. Methods Interventions in this randomized trial were CPS delivered by phone calls (CPS-C), CPS delivered by text messages (CPS-T), or automated text message reminders (ATR). Participants were AYA with different chronic medical conditions (i.e., sickle cell disease, solid organ transplant, type 2 diabetes), aged 15-20 years (N = 34). We examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of each intervention. Results We examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of both CPS interventions. CPS was feasible and acceptable. There was evidence that participants found CPS to be more useful than ATR. In this pilot trial, participants receiving CPS reported relatively stronger increases in adherence, compared to those assigned to ATR. CPS-C slightly outperformed CPS-T. Conclusions Providing coaching to AYA struggling with illness self-management via their cell phones may promote their acquisition of medication adherence skills. Although larger studies are needed to confirm the results of this pilot study, phone calls and text messages are both promising modalities for delivering human cell phone support. Trial registration This trial was registered prospectively at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04241627) on 1/27/2020.

Abstract
Objective Stroke survivors often experience residual impairments and motor decline post-discharge. While digital home rehabilitation combined with supervision could be a promising approach for reducing human resources, increasing motor ability, and supporting rehabilitation persistence there is a lack of reviews synthesizing the effects. Thus, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the effect of digital home rehabilitation and supervision in improving motor ability of upper limb, static balance, stroke-related quality of life, and self-reported arm function among stroke survivors. Methods Six electronic databases, grey literature, ongoing studies, and reference lists were searched for relevant studies. Two investigators independently reviewed titles, abstracts, screened full texts for eligibility and performed data extraction. Meta-analysis of 13 independent studies were grouped into four separate meta-analyses. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessments, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) tool was used for evaluating the overall quality of the evidence. Results Meta-analyses showed no statistically significant difference between intervention (digital home rehabilitation) and control groups (home training/clinic-based) of all outcomes including motor ability of upper limb, static balance, stroke-related quality of life, and self-reported arm function. In the sub-group analysis digital home rehabilitation was associated with better quality of arm use (standardized mean difference = 0.68, 95% confidence interval: [0.27, 1.09], p = 0.001). Conclusions This result indicated that digital home rehabilitation has similar effects and could potentially replace home training or clinic-based services. This review highlights better-targeted digital motor interventions to examine the effects of interventions further. The quality of evidence was moderate to high in motor and self-reported arm outcomes, and low for balance and quality of life.

Abstract
Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) benefit from healthcare transition (HCT) programs. Despite the well-established literature reviewing HCT, a considerable heterogeneity exists on the involved healthcare professionals. This review aims to explore systematic reviews on the practices and recommendations on which disciplines of professionals should be involved in HCT. An umbrella review was performed using the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. To be eligible, systematic reviews had to report on the composition and/or the rationale of members of a transition team. Seventeen reviews were included in this systematic review. A healthcare professional that coordinates HCT was identified as a key caregiver in all reviews. Other reported members of a HCT team were nurses (75% of the reviews), social workers (44%), and peers/mentors (35%). The reported key responsibilities of a HCT team were to (i) manage communication, (ii) ensure continuity of care, and (iii) maintain contact with community services. Conclusions: A team responsible for HCT should be active on the organizational, medical, and social levels. Key members of a HCT team vary little between diseases and included a coordinator, social worker, and nurse. A coordinating physician could facilitate transition in complex conditions. At all times, the condition and needs of the AYA should determine who should be involved as caregiver. What is Known: • The psychosocial needs of adolescents and young adults during healthcare transition are largely similar between chronic diseases. What is New: • Coordinators, nurses and social workers were the most involved, independent of the condition. • A liaison team should be active on organizational-, medical- and social-levels.

Abstract
Pediatric growth hormone (GH) deficiency is a licensed indication for replacement therapy with recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH). Treatment, consisting of daily subcutaneous injections, extends from the time of diagnosis until cessation of linear growth at completion of puberty. Suboptimal adherence to r-hGH therapy is common and has been well documented to substantially impair the growth response and achievement of the optimal goal which is attainment of adult height within the genetic target range. The causes of poor adherence are complex and include disease-, patient-, doctor-, and treatment-related factors. Interventions for suboptimal adherence are important for a long-term successful outcome and can include both face-to-face and digital strategies. Face-to-face interventions include behavioral change approaches such as motivational interviewing and non-judgmental assessment. Medical and nursing staff require training in these techniques. Digital solutions are rapidly advancing as evidenced by the electronic digital auto-injector device, easypod® (Merck Healthcare KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany), which uses the web-based easypod® connect platform allowing adherence data to be transmitted electronically to healthcare professionals (HCPs), who can then access GH treatment history, enhancing clinical decisions. Over the past 10 years, the multi-national Easypod® Connect Observational Study has reported high levels of adherence (>85%) from up to 40 countries. The easypod® connect system can be supported by a smartphone app, growlink™, which facilitates the interactions between the patients, their care team, and patient support services. HCPs are empowered by new digital techniques, however, the human-digital partnership remains essential for optimal growth management. The pediatric patient on r-hGH therapy will benefit from these innovations to enhance adherence and optimize long-term response.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of technological interventions used to improve communication between healthcare professionals (HCPs) and children with long-term conditions (LTCs). METHODS PROSPERO: CRD42020221977. Five electronic databases were searched from inception to May 2021 for randomised controlled trials. Study characteristics were described and random-effects meta-analysis was conducted. RESULTS Nineteen studies were included, involving 1995 participants. Technological interventions were found to significantly improve participants' knowledge of their condition (standardised mean difference [SMD] 0.39; 95% CI 0.07-0.71; p = 0.02) and lead to a more internal health locus of control (SMD 0.50; 95% CI 0.25-0.76; p < 0.0001). There was no statistically significant improvement in physiological measures or emergency healthcare use. CONCLUSION This systematic review showed some benefits of using technology to improve communication between HCPs and children with LTCs. Future primary research should use rigorous methods for subsequent reviews to draw conclusions with greater confidence in the evidence. Establishing a core outcome set within this field of study would enable consistent measurement of outcomes. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Our findings indicate value in integrating communication technologies in the child health setting, aiming to establish greater continuity of care and maintain patient-clinician relationships between healthcare visits.

Abstract
Objective To systematically catalogue review studies on digital health to establish extent of evidence on quality healthcare and illuminate gaps for new understanding, perspectives and insights for evidence-informed policies and practices. Methods We systematically searched PubMed database using sensitive search strings. Two reviewers independently conducted two-phase selection via title and abstract, followed by full-text appraisal. Consensuses were derived for any discrepancies. A standardized data extraction tool was used for reliable data mining. Results A total of 54 reviews from year 2014 to 2021 were included with notable increase in trend of publications. Systematic reviews constituted the majority (61.1%, (37.0% with meta-analyses)) followed by scoping reviews (38.9%). Domains of quality being reviewed include effectiveness (75.9%), accessibility (33.3%), patient safety (31.5%), efficiency (25.9%), patient-centred care (20.4%) and equity (16.7%). Mobile apps and computer-based were the commonest (79.6%) modalities. Strategies for effective intervention via digital health included engineering improved health behaviour (50.0%), better clinical assessment (35.1%), treatment compliance (33.3%) and enhanced coordination of care (24.1%). Psychiatry was the discipline with the most topics being reviewed for digital health (20.3%). Conclusion Digital health reviews reported findings that were skewed towards improving the effectiveness of intervention via mHealth applications, and predominantly related to mental health and behavioural therapies. There were considerable gaps on review of evidence on digital health for cost efficiency, equitable healthcare and patient-centred care. Future empirical and review studies may investigate the association between fields of practice and tendency to adopt and research the use of digital health to improve care.

Abstract
Preparing all youth for the transition to adult-oriented care, adulthood itself, and a greater responsibility for their own health and health-care is an essential part of pediatric care. This process, typically described as health-care transition, can occur throughout ongoing pediatric health-care to prepare patients for transfer to an adult clinician and integration into adult care. Gaps remain in practice and in outcomes research regarding health-care transition. This review discusses recent literature, details best practices, and recommends guidance and tools to assist pediatric clinicians in providing a smooth transition process and a successful transfer to adult care for youth with and without special health-care needs.

OBJECTIVE Our study evaluated the efficacy of health coaching and a self-management strategy-based electronic program on self-management strategies for patients with osteoporosis, chronic respiratory disease, or arthritis. DESIGN Three-arm randomized controlled trial, pilot study PARTICIPANTS: Fifty-four participants INTERVENTIONS: The first intervention group (n = 53) received a self-management strategy-based electronic program and 12 weeks of health coaching (20 sessions). The second intervention group received the information and communications technology (ICT) program; the control group received usual care and an educational booklet about self-management of chronic diseases. MAIN MEASURES The primary outcome was the difference in the change of the mean of self-management strategy scores. Secondary outcomes included depression (PHQ-9), physical activity (Godin Leisure Exercise Questionnaire), and health habit maintenance (transtheoretical model) after 12 weeks in the program. KEY RESULTS The combination of health coaching and ICT was superior to control group (change 18.5 vs. - 2.6, adjusted difference = 24.5, p < 0.001); however, the ICT alone group was not superior to the control group (change 8.0 vs. - 2.6, adjusted difference = 8.0, p = 0.156). As a result of evaluating the change in the percentage of people with positive stage changes in the transtheoretical model of health habits, regular exercise (p = 0.008), a balanced diet (p = 0.005), helping others (p = 0.001), and living with loved ones (p = 0.038) showed significant differences. There was no significant difference in the changes in percentage of patients with depressive symptoms in comparison with control group; however, there was in comparison with control group among groups (p = 0.033). Compared to the control group, the proportion of patients who achieved an exercise amount of 12.5 MET or higher was significantly higher (p = 0.028) in the health coaching and ICT group. CONCLUSIONS The combination of ICT + health coaching led to improvement in self-management as well as in increasing exercise, and several healthy behaviors.
