Abstract
INTRODUCTION In this study, we examined the natural course of untreated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and identified predictors of survival in an area where hepatitis B is the predominant cause of HCC. METHODS We identified 1,045 patients with HCC who did not receive HCC treatment and were registered in the Korean Primary Liver Cancer Registry between 2008 and 2014, and were followed-up up to December 2018. Thereafter, we analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients who survived for <12 or ≥12 months. A Cox proportional regression model was used to identify the variables associated with patient survival. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The mean age of the untreated patients at HCC diagnosis was 59.6 years, and 52.1% of patients had hepatitis B. Most untreated patients (94.2%) died during the observation period. The median survival times for each Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage were as follows: 31.0 months for stage 0/A (n = 123), 10.0 months for stage B (n = 96), 3.0 months for stage C (n = 599), and 1.0 month for stage D (n = 227). Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that BCLC stage D (hazard ratio, 4.282; P < 0.001), model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score ≥10 (HR, 1.484; P < 0.001), and serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level ≥1,000 ng/mL (HR, 1.506; P < 0.001) were associated with poor survival outcomes in patients with untreated HCC. In untreated patients with HCC, advanced stage BCLC, serum AFP level ≥1,000 ng/mL, and MELD score ≥10 were significantly associated with overall survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Heterogeneity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) still exists within the Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) subcategories. We developed a simple model to better discriminate and predict prognosis following resection. METHODS Patients who underwent curative-intent resection for HCC were identified from a multi-institutional database. Predictive factors of survival were identified to develop TAC (tumor burden score [TBS], alpha-fetoprotein [AFP], Child-Pugh CP]) score. RESULTS Among 1435 patients, median TBS was 5.1 (interquartile range [IQR]: 3.2-8.1), median AFP was 18.3 ng/ml (IQR 4.0-362.5), and 1391 (96.9%) patients were classified as CP-A. Factors associated with overall survival (OS) included TBS (low: referent; medium: HR 2.26, 95% CI: 1.73-2.96; high: HR = 3.35, 95% CI: 2.22-5.07), AFP (<400 ng/ml: referent; >400 ng/ml: HR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.27-1.92), and CP (A: referent; B: HR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.12-2.92) (all p < 0.05). A simplified risk score demonstrated superior concordance index, Akaike information criteria, homogeneity, and area under the curve versus BCLC (0.620 vs. 0.541; 5484.655 vs. 5536.454; 60.099 vs. 16.194; 0.62 vs. 0.55, respectively), and further stratified patients within BCLC groups relative to OS (BCLC 0, very low: 86.8%, low: 47.8%) (BCLC A, very low: 79.7%, low: 68.1%, medium: 52.5%, high: 35.6%) (BCLC B, low: 59.8%, medium: 43.7%, high: N/A). CONCLUSION TAC is a simple, holistic score that consistently outperformed BCLC relative to discrimination power and prognostication following resection of HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Organ failure in patients with acute decompensation (AD) is a defining characteristic of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). However, the clinical features of AD during the long-term clinical course of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still poorly understood. This study aimed to clarify features and impact of AD/ACLF on the prognosis of patients after treatment for HCC. METHODS This retrospective study enrolled 556 consecutive patients who were initially diagnosed with HCC, and analyses were conducted taking into account HCC treatment type, HCC stage, and presence or absence of cirrhosis. RESULTS During follow-up, 299 patients with AD were hospitalized. AD occurrence is closely related to prognosis, regardless of the presence or absence of cirrhosis and HCC stage, and early-onset AD (within 90 days after HCC treatment) has negative impact on prognosis. In the intermediate-advanced-stage group, surgical resection had a positive impact on AD incidence post-treatment. After systemic therapy for HCC, renal impairment was the predictive factors for AD development. The 28/90-day mortality rate was higher among 41 cases (13.7%) with AD who exhibited ACLF as compared with cases without ACLF. AD without cirrhosis had similar ACLF incidence and short-term mortality, compared to AD with cirrhosis. The prognostic model using a decision-tree-based approach, which includes ACLF, bilirubin level, HCC progression, and MELD score is useful for predicting 90- or 28-day mortality after AD diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS Careful management of patients with HCC who are hospitalized with AD is necessary, considering ACLF, HCC progression, and liver function.

Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the proportion, characteristics and prognosis of untreated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients in a large representative nationwide study. A cohort study was conducted using the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database in Korea. A total of 63,668 newly-diagnosed HCC patients between January 2008 and December 2013 were analyzed. Patients were categorized into treatment group and no treatment group using claim codes after HCC diagnosis. The proportion of untreated HCC patients was 27.6%, decreasing from 33.4% in 2008 to 24.8% in 2013. Compared to treated patients, untreated patients were more likely to be older (P < 0.001), female (P < 0.01), to have a distant SEER stage (P < 0.001), severe liver disease (P < 0.001), and lower income (P < 0.001). The fully-adjusted hazard ratio for all-cause mortality comparing untreated to treated patients was 3.11 (95% CI, 3.04–3.18). The risk of mortality was higher for untreated patients in all pre-defined subgroups, including those with distant SEER stage and those with severe liver disease. About one fourth of newly diagnosed HCC patients did not receive any HCC-specific treatment. Untreated patients showed higher risk of mortality compared to treated patients in all subgroups. Further studies are needed to identify obstacles for HCC treatment and to improve treatment rates.

Survival according to recurrence patterns after resection for transplantable hepatocellular carcinoma in HBV endemic area: Appraisal of liver transplantation strategy. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Since there is a shortage of liver donors, we investigated recurrence patterns and outcomes after liver resection (LR) to determine the feasibility of salvage liver transplantation (SLT). METHODS We analyzed 468 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within the Milan criteria (MC) who were mainly associated with Hepatitis B virus infection (76.3%) and had undergone curative LR as an initial treatment. RESULTS The overall survival (OS) rates were 86.6% and 67.4% at 5 and 10 years after LR, respectively. During a median follow-up of 59 months, 211 patients experienced recurrences including 175 (37.4%) within MC and 36 (7.7%) beyond MC. Survival was lowest in patients with beyond MC-recurrence followed by within MC- and no-recurrence groups (26.5%, 86.6%, and 94.7% at 5 years, respectively, P<0.001). Independent pathologic predictors of recurrence beyond MC were the presence of satellite nodules, microvascular invasion, and unfavorable gross findings (multinodular confluent and infiltrative) (all, P<0.05). Patients with all three risk factors experienced recurrence with the highest cumulative incidence of mortality. Among 173 patients with recurrence within MC, the cumulative incidence of HCC progression beyond MC despite resection and locoregional treatment (LRT) was 29% and 60% at 5 and 10 years after recurrence, respectively, and their 10-year OS rate was 25.8%. CONCLUSION Curative LR achieved a 5-year survival of>85% in patients with transplantable HCC, but early SLT after recurrence within MC is advocated because of poor survival and high risk of progression thereafter. Further, prophylactic LT could be considered for those with high risk of recurrence.

Factors Associated with Tumor Progression After Percutaneous Ablation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Comparison Between Monopolar Radiofrequency and Microwaves. Abstract
PURPOSE To identify risk factors for local and distant intrahepatic tumor progression after percutaneous ablation of HCC and to compare MWA with monopolar RFA. MATERIALS AND METHODS Consecutive patients with early or very early HCC who underwent percutaneous monopolar RFA or MWA were included. Factors associated with local and distant tumor progression were identified. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to limit bias. Statistical analyses were performed with the Kaplan-Meier method using the log-rank test and Cox regression models. RESULTS One hundred ninety HCC (mean diameter 23 ± 8.6 mm) were treated by RFA (n = 90, 47%) or MWA (n = 100, 53%) in 152 patients (mean age 63 ± 11, 79% men) between 2009 and 2016. The technical success rate was 97.4% (n = 185 HCC). After a median follow-up of 24.6 months (IQR: 9.7-37.2), 43 (23%), HCC showed local tumor progression [after a median of 13.4 months (IQR: 5.8-24.3)] and 91 (63%) patients had distant intrahepatic tumor progression (after a median of 10.4 months (IQR: 5.7-22). The cox model after PSM identified treatment by RFA (HR, 2.89; P = 0.005), HCC size ≥ 30 mm (HR, 3.12; P = 0.007) and vascular contact (HR, 3.43; P = 0.005) as risk factors for local progression. Factors associated with distant intrahepatic progression were HCC ≥ 30 mm (HR, 1.94; P = 0.013), serum AFP > 100 ng/mL (HR, 2.56; p = 0.002), and hepatitis B carrier (HR, 0.51; p = 0.047). CONCLUSION The rate of local HCC progression was lower after MWA than monopolar RFA, regardless of tumor size and vascular contact. The ablation technique did not influence the risk of distant intrahepatic tumor progression.

Abstract
Various surgical methods impact the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) differently. However, clinical guidelines remain inconsistent and the relative importance of predictors of survival outcomes requires further evaluation. The present study aimed to rank the importance of predictive factors that impact the survival outcomes of patients with HCC and to compare the prognosis associated with different surgical methods based on data obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. To achieve these aims, the present study used a random forest (RF) model to detect important predictive factors associated with survival outcomes in patients with HCC. Cox regression analysis was used to compare different surgery methods. The variables included in the Cox regression model were selected based on the Gini index calculated by the RF model. Using the RF model, the present study demonstrated that surgery method, tumor size and age were the first, second and third most important factors associated with HCC prognosis, respectively. Overall, patients who underwent local tumor destruction [(hazard ratio (HR)=0.48; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.45–0.51; P<0.001)], wedge or segmental resection (HR, 0.31; 95% CI, 0.29–0.33; P<0.001), lobectomy (HR, 0.29, 95% CI, 0.27–0.31; P<0.001) or liver transplantation (HR, 0.16; 95% CI, 0.14–0.17; P<0.001) demonstrated improved overall survival time compared with those treated with surgery, with a gradual decreasing trend observed in HRs. The present study demonstrated that the surgical method used is the most important predictor of the survival outcomes of patients with HCC. Liver transplantation resulted in the best prognosis for patients with HCC, except for those with undifferentiated tumors or distant metastasis.

Abstract
The staging and treatment of intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. According to the recommendations of Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system, patients with intermediate HCC are candidates for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization. However, not all patients with intermediate HCC benefit from transcatheter arterial chemoembolization. Therefore, it is meaningful to propose a novel staging system of intermediate HCC in order to allocate different treatments for different subgroups. Bolondi et al proposed the first subclassification system of intermediate HCC. Subsequently, investigators performed studies to validate the feasibility of Bolondi’ s criteria and proposed several novel staging systems. The present study reviewed the literatures and provided a general overview of the evolution and current status of the subclassification of intermediate HCC. We propose to expand the indication of liver resection and add radical treatments as the first option of the treatment for patients with intermediate HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS/AIMS We conducted this study to identify long-term outcomes following intraoperative radiofrequency ablation (IO-RFA) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to reveal independent prognostic factors for survival. METHODS From December 1998 to February 2019, 183 patients underwent IO-RFA for HCC. These patients were divided into two groups according to whether RFA was done as a first-line (1-RFA group, n=106) or secondary-line (2-RFA group, n=77) treatment. Furthermore, we compared the survival outcomes between the 1-RFA and 2-RFA groups. RESULTS There were no significant differences in type of surgical approaches between the two groups (p=0.079). The number of tumors and largest tumor size were not significantly different between the two groups. Overall recurrence rate was 53%, and the 2-RFA group showed a higher recurrence rate (46.2% in 1-RFA group versus 62.3% in 2-RFA group; p=0.031). The 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates of all the patients were 75.2% and 27.9%, respectively. The OS and DFS rates were significantly higher in the 1-RFA group. The 5-year OS rates were 83.6% and 64.9% in the 1-RFA and 2-RFA groups, respectively (p=0.010), whereas the 5-year DFS rates were 32.2% and 21.6%, respectively (p=0.012). On multivariate analysis, HBV-LC, 2-RFA, recurrence, and postoperative complications were independent predictive factors for survival. CONCLUSIONS Therapeutic outcomes of IO-RFA were comparable to those of surgical resection. Additionally, 1-RFA might be an alternative treatment for naïve HCC in patients with uncompensated liver function and severe comorbidities.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious consequence of persistent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and represents one of the most aggressive neoplasms globally. The implication of microRNA-301 (miR-301) in the initiation and progression of different types of cancers has been proved. We aimed to assess circulating microRNA-301 as possible biomarker for the early detection of HCC in patients with chronic HCV infection. miR-301 expression levels were estimated in plasma samples of 42 patients with newly diagnosed HCV-related HCC, 48 chronically HCV infected patients with liver cirrhosis and 40 healthy individuals by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction technique. In comparison with chronically HCV infected patients and healthy controls, miR-301 expression levels were significantly increased in HCC patients (P < 0.001). miR-301 levels distinguished HCC patients from chronic HCV patients, with area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of 0.89 (95% CI 0.82-0.96), the sensitivity and the specificity were 78.57% and 89.58% respectively. Moreover, miR-301 levels were significantly linked with tumor size (P = 0.014), serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) (P = 0.028) and Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) score (P = 0.003). These results reveal that miR-301 can serve as a promising non-invasive biomarker for diagnosis of HCC in chronically HCV infected patients.

Abstract
The global burden of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is profound, and represents a public health threat as chronic infection can lead to liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and death. The risk factors for chronic hepatitis B-related liver disease differ according to HBV endemicity, hepatitis B e-antigen seropositivity, and viral load. It is important to identify these risk factors and start antiviral treatment at an appropriate time according to current guidelines. The most crucial step in reducing HBV infection is prevention in infancy or early childhood, as infection at an early stage may lead to chronicity. South Korea was formerly an HBV-endemic area, but the epidemiology of HBV infection was changed by the introduction of vaccination in 1983 and nationwide immunization in 1995. The government and the private sector made efforts to reduce the prevalence of HBV infection, and Korea is on target to meet the World Health Organization goal of eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030. To eliminate hepatitis worldwide, the costs of antiviral treatment to prevent perinatal HBV transmission in pregnant women with high viremia should be covered by a national program, and strategies to reduce the prevalence of HBV infection in immigrant populations are needed.

Abstract
Curative treatments for very early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), defined as single HCC with a maximum diameter of <2 cm in patients with well-preserved liver function, consist of surgical resection or radiofrequency ablation (RFA). In this retrospective study, we compared the efficacy of both treatments in 154 patients with very early-stage HCCs who underwent resection or RFA as initial therapy and were followed up for a median of 56.8 months. Propensity score matching analysis was also conducted. Overall survival was comparable between treatment groups (median survival time of 143 vs 97 months for resection and RFA, respectively; P = .132). Resection group; however, demonstrated a significantly lower recurrence rate after initial therapy than RFA group (42.3% vs 65.7%; P = .006) with a longer median recurrence-free survival time (66.7 vs 33.8 months; P = .002), which was confirmed even after matching (P = .04). In contrast, the recurrence pattern in advanced-stage (9.6% vs 1.0%; P = .01) or incurable recurrences (19% vs 13%; P = .04) was more frequent following resection than RFA. Recurrent lesions were comparatively more curable in RFA group than in resection group (80% vs 54.5%; P = .02). The recurrence of HCC was independently associated with lower serum albumin level (P = .027), the presence of comorbid diabetes mellitus (P = .010), and RFA (P = .034). In conclusion, in patients with very early-stage HCC, surgical resection has achieved significantly better recurrence-free survival than RFA. A closer follow-up is required after resection.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the efficacy of surgery combined with post-operative trancatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS A total of 102 patients were divided into two groups: Radical liver resection only (LR group, 52 patients) and radical liver resection combined with post-operative TACE (combined group, 50 patients). Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed using Cox proportional analysis to detect prognostic factors of survival outcomes. RESULTS The 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rate in the LR group were significantly lower compared with those in combined group (p = .019). The 1-, 3- and 5-year progression-free survival rate in the LR group were also lower than those in the combined group (p = .048). Multivariate analysis detected that tumor number (multiple vs single), tumor distribution (both lobes vs semi-liver), treatment strategy (surgery + TACE vs surgery) were independent factors for OS (HR values were 2.307, 3.155 and 0.526, respectively) and PFS (HR values were 1.938, 3.425 and 0.633, respectively; p < .05). CONCLUSION In conclusion, surgery combined with post-operative TACE may improve survival outcomes for patients with intermediate HCC. Tumor number, tumor distribution and treatment strategy (surgery + TACE) were significantly associated with the prognosis of patients with intermediate HCC.

Abstract
AIMS The purpose of this study was to propose a pipeline to identify prognostic signature for HCC overall survival (OS) prediction based on HCC gene expression datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). RESULTS Differential expression analysis identified 3573 genes aberrantly expressed (DEGs) in HCC samples. Univariate cox regression analysis obtained 1605 and 1067 HCC OS and relapse free survival (RFS) related genes, which are abbreviated as OS-Gene and RFS-Gene respectively. Besides, there are 55 overlaps among DEGs, OS-Genes and RFS-Genes. Further prioritization of the 55 overlapping genes through Sure Independence Screening (SIS) resulted in 6 genes, including SRL, TTC26, CPSF2, TAF3, C16orf46 and CSN1S1, and the prognostic signature is the weighted combination of their expression values. Kaplan-Meier analysis based on the prognostic score (PS) of every sample indicates higher PS is associated with better HCC OS. Robustness of the prognostic signature was evaluated through another HCC gene expression datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). What's more, univariate and multivariate cox regression analysis indicate significant associations between stage/PS and HCC OS. CONCLUSIONS Our study provides a pipeline for the identification of prognostic signature for HCC OS prediction, which should also be suit for other types of cancers.

Abstract
Both radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and surgical resection (SR) are radical treatment recommended for early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a palliative treatment for intermediate HCC, and TACE1RFA combined therapy is considered superior to TACE or RFA alone for management of early HCC. This systematic review compared the efficacy and safety of TACE1RFA combined therapy with SR for early HCC. Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched for literatures related with our topic. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and the secondary endpoint was the recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate; safety was measured by the rate of major complications. The effect sizes of OS, RFS, and local progression rates were expressed by odds ratio (OR), while the effect size of complications was presented using relative risk. TACE1RFA combined therapy and SR had a similar 1-year OS rate [OR: 1.84; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.82, 4.14; P > 0.05], 3-year OS rate (OR: 0.84; 95% CI: 0.43, 1.67; P > 0.05), 1-year RFS rate (OR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.53, 1.11; P > 0.05), and 3-year RFS rate (OR: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.48, 1.42; P > 0.05) for early HCC. However, the 5-year OS rate (OR: 0.54; 95% CI: 0.40, 0.73; P < 0.05) and 5-year RFS rate (OR: 0.49; 95% CI: 0.27, 0.90; P < 0.05) were lower in patients with TACE1RFA than in those with SR. SR is associated with better long-term survival outcomes and a lower recurrence rate than TACE1RFA for patients with early HCC and is the optimal choice for patients with early HCC.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common and lethal cancers globally. With advances in therapy for chronic viral hepatitis, changing social circumstances, and increasing practice of HCC surveillance, the epidemiology of HCC is expected to change over time. We explored the temporal trends in HCC in Singapore, a multiethnic Asian country, over the last 3 decades. Patients with HCC were prospectively enrolled and stratified into two cohorts (C1, 1988‐2002; C2, 2003‐2016). Patient and tumor characteristics, management, and survival were compared between the two cohorts, and a survival census was performed on October 31, 2015. There were 1,401 patients, and the mean age at diagnosis of HCC for C1 and C2 was 60.1 and 63.5 years, respectively. Male patient preponderance decreased significantly, with the male to female ratio falling from 5.2:1 to 3.9:1 between C1 and C2. Hepatitis B, although still the predominant risk factor for HCC, showed a significant decline from C1 to C2 (76.5% to 68.2%), while the nonviral etiology increased significantly over the same period (14.4% versus 25.0%, respectively). Significantly more patients in C2 than C1 were diagnosed through surveillance (39.2% versus 11.3%, respectively) and had better physical performance (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group 0, 62.1% versus 20.4%, respectively). While Child‐Pugh status was comparable, significantly more patients in C2 than C1 had early stage disease (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer 0‐A, 39.5% versus 7.4%, respectively), which translated into significantly higher median survival (18.6 months versus 3.8 months, respectively). Conclusion: Over the past 3 decades, hepatitis B‐related HCC has been decreasing while HCC due to nonviral etiology has been increasing significantly. Surveillance to diagnose early stage HCC is important in improving the outcome of HCC. (Hepatology Communications 2017;1:564–571)

Abstract
Whether or not esophagogastric varices (EGV) could determine the outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still unclear. A total of 990 treatment-naive HCC patients who received an esophagogastroduodenoscopy at the time of HCC diagnosis were retrospectively enrolled. The factors in terms of prognosis were analyzed by Cox proportional hazards model and propensity score matching analysis. Among the enrolled patients, 480 (48.5%) patients had EGV. Patients with EGV had a significantly lower cumulative 5-year survival rate than those without EGV (24.9% versus 46.4%, p < 0.001). It was confirmed by a multivariate analysis and propensity score matching analysis. Stratified by tumor stage, the patients with EGV had lower survival rates than the patients without EGVs in all Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stages except stage D. Moreover, the patients with EGV had lower survival rates than those without EGV, both by curative or non-curative treatment modalities. In conclusion, EGV was an independent risk factor predicting poor prognosis for the patients with HCC by multivariate analysis, propensity score matching analysis, and subgroup analysis.

Abstract
AIM To compare patients who underwent resection of early stage hepatocellular cancer (HCC) in three different countries.
METHODS This retrospective study characterizes 573 stage I/II HCC patients treated with liver resection in 3 tertiary-referral centers: Tokyo (n = 250), Honolulu (n = 146) and Shanghai (n = 177).
RESULTS Shanghai patients were younger, predominantly male, hepatitis-B seropositive (94%) and cirrhotic (93%). Tokyo patients were older and more likely to have hepatitis-C (67%), smaller tumors, low albumin, and normal alpha-fetoprotein. The Honolulu cohort had the largest tumors and 30% had no viral hepatitis. Age-adjusted mortality at 1 and 5-years were lower in the Tokyo cohort compared to Honolulu and there was no difference in mortality between Shanghai and Honolulu cohorts. Elevated alpha-fetoprotein, low albumin and tumor > 5 cm were associated with increased 1-year mortality. These factors and cirrhosis were independently associated with increased 5-year mortality. Independent risk factors of survival varied when examined separately by center.
CONCLUSION The profile of early-stage HCC patients is strikingly different across countries and likely contributes to survival differences. Underlying differences in patient populations including risk factors/comorbidities influencing disease progression may also account for variation in outcomes.
