Magnetically retrievable nanocatalyst Fe3O4@CPTMO@dithizone-Ni for the fabrication of 4H-benzo[h]chromenes under green medium

In the research, the core-shell procedure synthesized a novel magnetically separable heterogeneous nanocatalyst with high stability named Fe3O4@CPTMO@dithizone-Ni. In this method, Fe3O4 was modified as a magnetic core using surfactant (SDS) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) coating; after functionalizing the magnetic nanoparticles with 3-chloropropyl-tri-methoxysilane and dithizone, Ni metal was immobilized. The prepared catalyst was identified and specified utilizing diverse physicochemical techniques involving FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EMA, BET, ICP, EDS, TGA, Raman, and TEM. In the following, to vouch for the efficiency of the obtaining catalyst for the green synthesis of 4H-benzo[h]chromenes utilizing the three-component, one-pot condensation reaction of α-naphthol, aryl glyoxal, and malononitrile as precursors were evaluated. The catalyst exhibited high recyclability with a slight reduction in activity at least eight series without a substantial decrease in stability and efficiency. The synthesized nanocatalyst was evaluated in various conditions such as different solvents, etc. the best of these conditions is the initial concentration of 30 mg of nanocatalyst with water as a solvent in 3 min with 98% yield. The prominent merits of the present research include easy separation of the catalyst without centrifugation, high-accessible raw precursors, cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness, green reaction status, quick reaction, and excellent product yields.

Iron oxide nanoparticles carried by probiotics for iron absorption: a systematic review

BACKGROUND

One-third of the world's population has anemia, contributing to higher morbidity and death and impaired neurological development. Conventional anemia treatment raises concerns about iron bioavailability and gastrointestinal (GI) adverse effects. This research aims to establish how iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) interact with probiotic cells and how they affect iron absorption, bioavailability, and microbiota variation.

METHODS

Pointing to the study of the literature and developing a review and critical synthesis, a robust search methodology was utilized by the authors. The literature search was performed in the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Information was collected between January 2017 and June 2022 using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) protocols for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. We identified 122 compatible research articles.

RESULTS

The research profile of the selected scientific articles revealed the efficacy of IONPs treatment carried by probiotics versus conventional treatment. Therefore, the authors employed content assessment on four topics to synthesize previous studies. The key subjects of the reviewed reports are the characteristics of the IONPs synthesis method, the evaluation of cell absorption and cytotoxicity of IONPs, and the transport of IONPs with probiotics in treating anemia.

CONCLUSIONS

To ensure a sufficient iron level in the enterocyte, probiotics with the capacity to attach to the gut wall transport IONPs into the enterocyte, where the maghemite nanoparticles are released.

Current Methods for Synthesis and Potential Applications of Cobalt Nanoparticles: A Review

Cobalt nanoparticles (CoNPs) are promising nanomaterials with exceptional catalytic magnetic, electronic, and chemical properties. The nano size and developed surface open a wide range of applications of cobalt nanoparticles in biomedicine along with those properties. The present review assessed the current environmentally friendly synthesis methods used to synthesize CoNPs with various properties, such as size, zeta potential, surface area, and magnetic properties. We systematized several methods and provided some examples to illustrate the synthetic process of CoNPs, along with the properties, the chemical formula of obtained CoNPs, and their method of analysis. In addition, we also looked at the potential application of CoNPs from water purification cytostatic agents against cancer to theranostic and diagnostic agents. Moreover, CoNPs also can be used as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging and photoacoustic methods. This review features a comprehensive understanding of the synthesis methods and applications of CoNPs, which will help guide future studies on CoNPs.

Gold-iron oxide nanohybrids: insights into colloidal stability and surface-enhanced Raman detection

Nanoparticles are acquiring an ever increasing role in analytical technologies for enhanced applications such as signalling of hazardous dyes. One challenge for the synthesis of hybrid nanomaterials is to control their shape, size and properties. The colloidal and interfacial properties of initial nanoparticles are decisive for the formation, growth and characteristics of nanohybrids. Our objective is to combine the advantages of iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic separation with nanoscale gold for a surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect which could be used e.g. for improved detection of dye molecules. We synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (∼10 nm) with a high saturation magnetization of around 80 Am² kg^-1 and coupled nanoscale gold to these particles. The focus was set in testing multiple approaches to combine these two materials with the goal of understanding and discussing the effect of the colloidal stability of iron oxide nanoparticles on the properties of the hybrid material. Stability is a seldom addressed issue; however, it plays a critical role for guaranteeing a homogeneous distribution of the gold on the iron oxide surface. We characterized the produced materials with UV/Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy, and their capability to enhance Raman signals is investigated. The seed-mediated growth method of oleate and PEG-stabilized magnetic particles yielded the best enhancement of Raman scattering for identification of the dye Rhodamin 6G. This approach can be used to couple gold nanoparticles to other surfaces and microfluidic devices. The presented method might pave the way to further applications in diagnostics or also in environmental approaches and beyond.
