Multiple ossified intracranial and spinal meningiomas: a rare case report and literature review

Ossified intracranial meningiomas (OIM) and ossified spinal meningiomas (OSM) are rare neoplasms of mesenchymal origin that predominantly manifest in the spinal cord and infrequently in the cranial region, accounting for ~0. 7-5.5% of all meningiomas. It is extremely rare to have multiple intracranial and spinal lesions accompanied by ossification. Herein, we report this rare case for the first time. A 34-year-old woman presented with paresthesia and limb weakness in the right lower limb and gradually worsened. Approximately half a year later, she could only walk with crutches. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and spinal cord showed multiple meningiomas, and histopathological examination confirmed multiple OIM and OSM (WHO grade 1). Multiple OIM and OSM are extremely rare with diverse imaging features, and it is easily confused with other tumors. Histopathological examination is the final diagnostic method.

Collision Tumor of Glioblastoma and Meningioma: Case Report and Literature Review

BACKGROUND

Intracranial primary collision tumors of different histologic types are rare, and their occurrence is still unclear.

CASE DESCRIPTION

We describe a 66-year-old female who presented with headache, nausea, and vomiting. Magnetic resonance imaging scan showed that there were 2 primary intracranial tumors occurring simultaneously at adjacent sites of the right cerebral hemisphere. Tumor pathology showed 2 distinct tumors: meningioma (World Health Organization I) and glioblastoma. This is a rare case in which 2 different intracranial primary tumors occurred at adjacent sites, but the patient had no history of head trauma, neurologic surgery, or radiation therapy.

CONCLUSIONS

According to previous and present reports, the most common type of intracranial primary collision tumor is composed of a benign meningioma and a glioblastoma. During the occurrence of collision tumors, 1 tumor can play a role in the formation and growth of the other.

A Diagnostic Dilemma: Multiple Primary Intracranial Tumors Without Vestibular Schwannomas

Sinonasal schwannomas with intracranial extension are exceedingly rare, with only 7 cases reported in the literature. Schwannomas can be isolated or multiple and are commonly associated with familial disorders such as neurofibromatosis 2 (NF 2) or familial schwannomatosis or in sporadic cases seen in sporadic schwannomatosis. Nearly all people with NF2 older than 30 years of age will have the hallmark of bilateral vestibular schwannomas (VS). This case highlights a reported case of an adult with separate primary intracranial tumors. We review the diagnostic criteria of NF2 and schwannomatosis, a recently described third variant of neurofibromatosis. In this case, we incorporate family history, histopathology, and the pathophysiology of both disorders to help determine a diagnosis for this patient.
