Abstract
In this review, different aspects of the use of clinical neurophysiology techniques for the treatment of movement disorders are addressed. First of all, these techniques can be used to guide neuromodulation techniques or to perform therapeutic neuromodulation as such. Neuromodulation includes invasive techniques based on the surgical implantation of electrodes and a pulse generator, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) or spinal cord stimulation (SCS) on the one hand, and non-invasive techniques aimed at modulating or even lesioning neural structures by transcranial application. Movement disorders are one of the main areas of indication for the various neuromodulation techniques. This review focuses on the following techniques: DBS, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), low-intensity transcranial electrical stimulation, including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), and focused ultrasound (FUS), including high-intensity magnetic resonance-guided FUS (MRgFUS), and pulsed mode low-intensity transcranial FUS stimulation (TUS). The main clinical conditions in which neuromodulation has proven its efficacy are Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and essential tremor, mainly using DBS or MRgFUS. There is also some evidence for Tourette syndrome (DBS), Huntington's disease (DBS), cerebellar ataxia (tDCS), and axial signs (SCS) and depression (rTMS) in PD. The development of non-invasive transcranial neuromodulation techniques is limited by the short-term clinical impact of these techniques, especially rTMS, in the context of very chronic diseases. However, at-home use (tDCS) or current advances in the design of closed-loop stimulation (tACS) may open new perspectives for the application of these techniques in patients, favored by their easier use and lower rate of adverse effects compared to invasive or lesioning methods. Finally, this review summarizes the evidence for keeping the use of electromyography to optimize the identification of muscles to be treated with botulinum toxin injection, which is indicated and widely performed for the treatment of various movement disorders.

Abstract
Functional Motor Disorders are common and disabling. Clinical diagnosis has moved from one of exclusion of other causes for symptoms to one where positive clinical features on history and examination are used to make a "rule in" diagnosis wherever possible. Clinical neurophysiological assessments have developed increasing importance in assisting with this positive diagnosis, not being used simply to demonstrate normal sensory-motor pathways, but instead to demonstrate specific abnormalities that help to positively diagnose these disorders. Here we provide a practical review of these techniques, their application, interpretation and pitfalls. We also highlight particular areas where such tests are currently lacking in sensitivity and specificity, for example in people with functional dystonia and functional tic-like movements.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Essential Tremor (ET) is one of the most common tremor syndromes typically presented as action tremor, affecting mainly the upper limbs. In at least 30-50% of patients, tremor interferes with quality of life, does not respond to first-line therapies and/or intolerable adverse effects may occur. Therefore, surgery may be considered. AREAS COVERED In this review, the authors discuss and compare unilateral ventral intermedius nucleus deep brain stimulation (VIM DBS) and bilateral DBS with Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy, which comprises focused acoustic energy generating ablation under real-time MRI guidance. Discussion includes their impact on tremor reduction and their potential complications. Finally, the authors provide their expert opinion. EXPERT OPINION DBS is adjustable, potentially reversible and allows bilateral treatments; however, it is invasive requires hardware implantation, and has higher surgical risks. Instead, MRgFUS is less invasive, less expensive, and requires no hardware maintenance. Beyond these technical differences, the decision should also involve the patient, family, and caregivers.

Abstract
Background Functional movement disorders (FMD) are a commonly under-recognized diagnosis in patients with underlying neurodegenerative diseases. FMD have been observed in patients undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD) and other movement disorders. The prevalence of coexisting FMD among movement disorder-related DBS patients is unknown, and it may occur more often than previously recognized. Methods We retrospectively assessed the relative prevalence and clinical characteristics of FMD occurring post-DBS, in PD and dystonia patients (FMD+, n = 29). We compared this cohort with age at surgery-, sex-, and diagnosis-matched subjects without FMD post-DBS (FMD-, n = 29). Results Both the FMD prevalence (0.2%-2.1%) and the number of cases/DBS procedures/year varied across centers (0.15-3.65). A total of nine of 29 FMD+ cases reported worse outcomes following DBS. Although FMD+ and FMD- manifested similar features, FMD+ showed higher psychiatric comorbidity. Conclusions DBS may be complicated by the development of FMD in a subset of patients, particularly those with pre-morbid psychiatric conditions.
