Abstract
PURPOSE Cryoablation is a recommended, modern and well-tolerated method of treating atrial fibrillation (AF). The study evaluates plasma biomarkers related to AF and the effectiveness of its treatment - cryoablation. Heart- and adipocyte-type fatty acid binding proteins (H-FABP and A-FABP, respectively) as well as fatty acids (FAs) were assessed in patients that underwent cryoballoon ablation (CBA) for AF. PATIENTS AND METHODS Concentrations of plasma FABPs and FAs were measured in 33 AF patients on admission and 24 h after CBA (enzyme-linked immunoassay and gas liquid chromatography, respectively). The control group consisted of 20 volunteers. RESULTS We showed that plasma H-FABP and A-FABP concentrations were significantly higher in the patients with AF than in the control group (1135 pg/mL vs 836 pg/mL, and 34.29 ng/mL vs 15.14 ng/mL, respectively; p < 0.05). After CBA, H-FABP plasma concentration increased even further (1574 pg/mL vs 1135 pg/mL; p < 0.05) and FAs levels decreased concomitantly. AF recurred in 8 patients (24.25%) after 3 months and in 13 patients (39.4%) after 6 months. Initially higher concentration of oleic acid (680.24 ± 189.768 vs 567.04 ± 70.002; p < 0.05) correlated substantially with lower AF relapse rate in 6 months follow-up. CONCLUSIONS The patients with AF showed increased concentration of H-FABP, whereas CBA triggered further elevation of H-FABP with a simultaneous decline in the total plasma FAs concentration. H-FABP and A-FABP could not be confirmed as new biomarkers of cryoablation efficiency, but this requires further investigation due to the limitations of the study.

Abstract
Background Heart failure (HF) is a serious and advanced stage of various cardiac diseases with high mortality and rehospitalization rates. Phosphoglycerate mutase 2 (PGAM2) overexpression was identified in the serum of patients with HF. Material/methods One hundred and fifty-three cases of HF were included in the present work. According to New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification, 22 were grade II, 84 were grade III, and 47 were grade IV. Serum PGAM2, NT-proBNP, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), troponin T (TNT), and Cys-C of HF patients were detected using ELISA assay. Left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular end-diastolic inner diameter, and left atrium (LA) inner diameter of the included cases were also detected by the cardiac color Doppler. Results The number of patients with atrial fibrillation was significantly higher in NYHA IV group than in groups II and III with statistical difference (p < 0.05). The serum PGAM2, NT-proBNP, and Cys-C were significantly higher in NYHA IV group than in NYHA II and NYHA III groups (p all < 0.05). NT-proBNP had the highest prediction efficacy of HF severity and PGAM2 was also a potential biomarker for HF severity evaluation with relatively high sensitivity, specificity, and area under the ROC. The overall survival among NYHA II, III, and IV groups were statistically different (p = 0.04) with the median survival time of 25 months for NYHA III and IV groups. Conclusion PGAM2 is a new promising biomarker for evaluation of the severity of HF. Combination detection using multiple serum factors such as PGAM2, NT-proBNP, BNP, TNT, and Cys-C can improve the HF severity differential diagnosis performance.

Abstract
Background High lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) levels are associated with increased risks of cardiovascular events in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Peri-procedural myocardial infarction (PMI) occurs commonly during the PCI, whereas the relationship between Lp(a) and PMI remains unclear. Our study aimed to evaluate the association between Lp(a) value and the incidence of PMI in a larger-scale diabetic cohort undergoing PCI throughout 2013. Methods A total of 2,190 consecutive patients with DM were divided into two groups according to the median Lp(a) level of 175 mg/L: Low Lp(a) group (N = 1095) and high Lp(a) group (N = 1095). PMI was defined based on the 2018 universal definition of myocardial infarction. Results Patients with high Lp(a) levels exhibited higher rates of PMI compared to those with low Lp(a) levels (2.3% versus 0.8%, P = 0.006). The multivariable logistic analysis showed that PMI was independently predicted by Lp(a) as a dichotomous variable (OR 2.64, 95%CI 1.22-5.70) and as a continuous variable (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.12-2.20). However, further investigation found that this association was only maintained in men, whose Lp(a) levels were significantly associated with the frequency of PMI, both as a dichotomous variable (OR 3.66, 95%CI 1.34-10.01) and as a continuous variable (OR 1.81, 95%CI 1.18-2.78). Lp(a) wasn't a risk factor of PMI in women. Conclusions High Lp(a) levels had forceful correlations with the increased frequency of PMI in male diabetic patients undergoing PCI. Lp(a) might act as a marker of risk stratification and a therapeutic target to reduce PCI-related ischemic events.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is one of the dominant methods for revascularization in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). However, periprocedural myocardial injury (PMI) is a frequent complication following PCI and is known to be a predictor of postprocedural cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Although several studies try to identify serum markers to predict the PMI, there is a little information about the role of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) as a predictor of PMI. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship of Lp-PLA2 levels and PMI in patients undergoing elective PCI. METHODS This study included 265 consecutive patients with normal preprocedural cardiac troponin T(cTNT) who received elective PCI. The samples for cTNT were collected at 8, 16, and 24 h after PCI to assess perioperative myocardial injury. The Lp-PLA2 and other serum lipid parameters were measured after 12 fasting hours before PCI. RESULTS The data suggested that the patients with preprocedural high Lp-PLA2 were strongly and independently correlated with the risk of PMI. Pearson correlation analysis showed that preprocedural Lp-PLA2 was significantly positively correlated with postprocedural cTnT elevation (r = 0.694, p < 0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of PMI, we found that Lp-PLA2 was independent risk factor for postprocedural cTnT elevation. The area under Receiver Operating Characteristic curve of Lp-PLA2 was 0.757 (95%CI 0.692 ~ 0.821, p < 0.001), the best cut-off point was 185 ng/ml, sensitivity and specificity were 65.33% and 76.32%. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated that preprocedural Lp-PLA2 was associated with postprocedural cTnT elevation and was the independent risk factor of PMI.
