Implementation of Steiner point of fuzzy set

This paper deals with the implementation of Steiner point of fuzzy set. Some definitions and properties of Steiner point are investigated and extended to fuzzy set. This paper focuses on establishing efficient methods to compute Steiner point of fuzzy set. Two strategies of computing Steiner point of fuzzy set are proposed. One is called linear combination of Steiner points computed by a series of crisp α-cut sets of the fuzzy set. The other is an approximate method, which is trying to find the optimal α-cut set approaching the fuzzy set. Stability analysis of Steiner point of fuzzy set is also studied. Some experiments on image processing are given, in which the two methods are applied for implementing Steiner point of fuzzy image, and both strategies show their own advantages in computing Steiner point of fuzzy set.

A ROBUST AFFINE INVARIANT METRIC ON BOUNDARY PATTERNS

Affine invariant pattern metrics are useful for shape recognition. It is important that such a metric is robust for various defects. We formalize these types of robustness using four axioms. Then, we present the reflection metric. This is an affine invariant metric defined for the large family of "boundary patterns". A boundary pattern is a finite union of n-1 dimensional algebraic surface patches in ℝn. Such a pattern may have multiple connected components. We prove that the reflection metric satisfies the four robustness axioms.

PROTEIN STRUCTURE–STRUCTURE ALIGNMENT WITH DISCRETE FRÉCHET DISTANCE

Matching two geometric objects in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spaces is a central problem in computer vision, pattern recognition, and protein structure prediction. In particular, the problem of aligning two polygonal chains under translation and rotation to minimize their distance has been studied using various distance measures. It is well known that the Hausdorff distance is useful for matching two point sets, and that the Fréchet distance is a superior measure for matching two polygonal chains. The discrete Fréchet distance closely approximates the (continuous) Fréchet distance, and is a natural measure for the geometric similarity of the folded 3D structures of biomolecules such as proteins. In this paper, we present new algorithms for matching two polygonal chains in two dimensions to minimize their discrete Fréchet distance under translation and rotation, and an effective heuristic for matching two polygonal chains in three dimensions. We also describe our empirical results on the application of the discrete Fréchet distance to protein structure–structure alignment.
