Abstract
The liver accounts for almost 95% of lipid metabolism in broilers and serves as a crucial metabolic organ. Stress, which occurs when broilers are exposed to a heated environment, inhibits liver metabolism, significantly impacting their growth. This experiment investigated the combination of GBE with TP to improve hepatic lipid metabolism in heat-stressed broiler chickens by inhibiting the AMPK/SREBP-1C/ACC pathway. Three hundred broilers were reared usually until 21 days and randomly divided into six groups, namely CON group, HS group, TP group (300 mg/kg), GBE100 group (GBE100 mg/kg + TP300 mg/kg), GBE300 group (GBE 300 mg/kg + TP 300 mg/kg), GBE600 (600 mg/kg + TP 300 mg/kg) groups, where the CON group was kept at 23 °C, and the HS group and the TP, GBE100, GBE300, and GBE600 groups of each medication group were kept at 35 ± 2 °C for 10 h per day. Liver and serum samples were extracted at 28 and 42 days of age, respectively. The results showed that, at 42 days of age, the GBE600 group exhibited significantly superior performance to the HS group in ADG, ADFI, and F/G (p < 0.01). Serum TG, TC, and LDL-C levels were significantly lower (p < 0.01), while HDL-C levels were significantly higher (p < 0.05). Additionally, the mRNA expression levels of LKB1, AMPK, SREBP-1C, and ACC were markedly reduced (p < 0.01). In contrast, the mRNA expression of HSL and CPT1A was significantly elevated (p < 0.01), indicating that the GBE600 was more effective in mitigating heat stress in broiler chickens at 42 days of age. It showed that the GBE600 was more effective in ameliorating heat stress in broilers at 42 days of age, thus providing an ethical basis for ameliorating the flocculation of hepatic lipid metabolism in heat-stressed broilers.

Effects of Compound Chinese Herbal Medicine Additive on Growth Performance and Gut Microbiota Diversity of Zi Goose. Animals (Basel) 2022; 12:ani12212942. Abstract
This study investigated the effects of CCHMA on growth performance, slaughter performance, serum biochemical indicators, intestinal morphology and microbiota of Zi goose. Initially, it was determined the optimal addition concentration of CCHMA to be 3 g/kg by the first feeding experiment. Then, 78 Zi geese were divided into control and CCHMA supplemented groups. The results showed that the body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG) of the CCHMA supplemented group was significantly increased (p < 0.05), and the feed/gain (F/G) of the CCHMA supplemented group was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) compared with the control group. The dressed yield percentage in the CCHMA supplemented group significantly increased by 0.78% (p < 0.05). Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were significantly lower in the CCHMA fed birds than in the control group (p < 0.05). Further, 16S rDNA gene sequencing conducted for cecal flora composition found that 3 g/kg CCHMA significantly increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria (CHKCI001, Colidextribacter and Subdoligranulum) (p < 0.05; p < 0.01) and suppressing harmful bacteria (Bacteroidetes and Methanobrevibacter) (p < 0.05) in the cecum of Zi goose. In conclusion, adding 3 g/kg of CCHMA in the diet can improve the growth performance, slaughter performance of Zi goose, and optimize the cecum microflora.

Abstract
The growing period is a critical period for growth and development in laying hens. During this period, chicks grow rapidly, but are accompanied by unstable digestive function, incomplete organ development, and high mortality. Small peptide, a feed additive, which has been proved to promote intestinal development and immunity in poultry. In order to elucidate the effects of small peptides on growth performance, immunity, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal health of growing laying hens, a total of 900 Tianfu green shell laying hens (1-day-old) were randomly divided into 5 treatments with 6 replicates of 30 birds each in this 18-week trial. Dietary treatments included a corn-soybean meal-based diet supplemented with 0 g/kg, 1.5 g/kg, 3.0 g/kg, 4.5 g/kg and 6.0 g/kg small peptide, respectively. The results showed that the supplementation of small peptides significantly increased growth rate (P<0.05) in laying hens, as well as elevated the serum immunoglobulins (P<0.05) and antioxidant indices (P<0.05), however, it decreased inflammation parameters (P<0.05). The supplementation of small peptides enhanced the intestinal function by promoting gut development (P<0.05) and improving gut integrity (P<0.05), barrier function (P<0.05) and the diversity of gut microbiota (P<0.05) in the growing hens. The best performance was recorded among the hens fed 4.5 g/kg level of small peptide. Taken together, these results showed that small peptide supplementation could improve the economic value of growing hens by promoting growth rate, disease resistance, and the optimal amount of addition for Tianfu green shell laying hens was 4.5 g/kg.
