Clinical Effects of Chinese Herbal Decoction Combined with Basic Chemoradiotherapy and Nursing Intervention in the Treatment of Cervical Cancer and the Effect on Serum CEA, CA125, and TNF-α Levels

An exploration of the effect of Chinese herbal compound on the occurrence and development of large intestine cancer and intestinal flora

This study was conducted to observe the effect of Chinese herbal compound on the treatment of colon cancer using AOM/DSS-induced C57BL/6J colon cancer mice and to validate potential influence on intestinal flora of mice. A colorectal cancer (CRC) mouse model was built with a total of 50 C57BL/6J mice that were induced by administrating AOM/DSS. These experimental animals were split up into 5 groups, a control group, a model group, and low-, medium- and high-dose Chinese herbal compound groups. All mice were given Chinese herbal compound treatment, and the colon tissues of each group were harvested with the length measured and the number of colon polyps accounted. The Ki-67 expression in the colon tissues was detected via immuno-histochemistry. Relative quantification of the expression of genes and proteins was determined through qPCR and WB assays. Contents of IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-10 in serum and colon tissues of mice were determined by ELISA. An additional 16S rRNA sequencing analysis was implemented for the identification of mouse intestinal flora. The results suggested that all low-, medium- or high-dose Chinese herbal compound could markedly inhibit the shortening of colon length and significant number reduction of colon polyps in the model group. The relative expression of genes and proteins (PCNA, Muc16, and MMP-9) associated with proliferation in mouse colon tissues were inhibited. In addition, compared with the model group, the contents of IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ in serum and colon tissues were substantially decreased in the high-dose Chinese herbal compound group, thereby reducing the structure damage in colon tissues and the infiltration degree of inflammatory cells. Besides, the expression of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB protein was markedly decreased. The 16S rRNA sequencing analysis demonstrated that mice in the model group had decreased intestinal flora diversity, and there were significant changes in flora abundance and amino acid metabolism between the control group and the model group. Taken together, the treatment of Chinese herbal compound against CRC in this study might be regulated by the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, and the imbalance in intestinal flora was also closely related to CRC occurrence.

Clinical effects of a traditional Chinese medicine nursing programme to intervene in gastric pain of the spleen and stomach with Qi deficiency

BACKGROUND

Gastroparesis is a common digestive disorder characterized by delayed gastric emptying, which can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and poor appetite. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for centuries to treat gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroparesis. TCM theory suggests that spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome is one of the main pathogenic factors in gastroparesis. Nursing care plays an important role in the treatment of gastroparesis, and TCM nursing interventions have shown promising results in improving patient outcomes. However, there is limited research on the clinical effectiveness of TCM nursing interventions for gastroparesis with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effect of TCM nursing intervention in the treatment of gastroparesis with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome and to compare it with routine nursing interventions.

AIM

To analyze the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine nursing intervention in the treatment of gastric paraplegia with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome.

METHODS

From January 2020 to July 2021, 80 patients with gastroparesis of spleen stomach qi deficiency type diagnosed in our hospital were selected for the study. The 80 patients were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group, with 40 cases in each group. During the treatment period, the control group received routine nursing interventions, while the experimental group received traditional Chinese medicine nursing procedures. Compare the nursing effects of the two groups and observe the changes in traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores, pain levels, and sleep quality before and after treatment.

RESULTS

After treatment, comparing the treatment effects of the two groups, the total effective rate of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the TCM symptom score, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score between the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). However, after treatment, the TCM syndrome scores, VAS scores, and PSQI scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

In the clinical nursing intervention of patients with mild gastroparesis due to spleen and stomach qi deficiency, the traditional Chinese medicine nursing plan has good clinical application value and nursing effect, and has a good effect on improving patients' pain and sleep quality.

A Retrospective Study of Chemotherapy and 3D-Image-Guided Afterloading Intracavitary Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer

Aim

To investigate the value of neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with 3D-image-guided afterloading intracavitary radiotherapy in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC).

Methods

Patients with cervical cancer admitted to our hospital from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021 were retrieved and analyzed. Cases treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and 3D-image-guided afterloading intracavitary radiotherapy were assigned into the observation group (OG), while cases with neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone were assigned into the control group (CG). The short-term effects were determined by RECIST 1.1. Total effective rate (TR) = complete remission (CR) + partial remission (PR). The serum levels of squamous epithelial cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), glycoantigen 125 (CA125), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were assessed. In view of the difference between tumor markers and diameters before and after treatment, the correlation between them was analyzed by Pearson test. The adverse events were compared, and the amount of operative bleeding and operation time were evaluated. Cox regression analysis was conducted to assess the influencing factors of 1-year disease-free survival time.

Results

Sixty-seven patients were retrieved, including 30 cases in the OG and 37 cases in the CG. There were no significant differences in age, pathological type, tumor size, FIGO stage, past medical history, or smoking history between the two groups (P > 0.05). The TR of patients in the OG was higher than that in the CG (P < 0.05). The SCC-Ag, CA125, CEA, and VEGF levels in the OG decreased markedly after treatment (P < 0.001). The difference in SCC-Ag, CA125, CEA, and VEGF was positively correlated with the difference in tumor diameter before and after treatment (P < 0.05). The incidence of adverse events revealed no obvious difference between the OG and CG (P > 0.05). Cox regression analysis showed that FIGO stage and treatment regimens were independent prognostic factors for 1-year disease-free survival (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with 3D-image-guided afterloading intracavitary radiotherapy can improve the TR rate and 1-year disease-free survival of LACC patients without increasing the incidence of adverse events.
