Machine learning and new insights for breast cancer diagnosis

Breast cancer (BC) is the most prominent form of cancer among females all over the world. The current methods of BC detection include X-ray mammography, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography and breast thermographic techniques. More recently, machine learning (ML) tools have been increasingly employed in diagnostic medicine for its high efficiency in detection and intervention. The subsequent imaging features and mathematical analyses can then be used to generate ML models, which stratify, differentiate and detect benign and malignant breast lesions. Given its marked advantages, radiomics is a frequently used tool in recent research and clinics. Artificial neural networks and deep learning (DL) are novel forms of ML that evaluate data using computer simulation of the human brain. DL directly processes unstructured information, such as images, sounds and language, and performs precise clinical image stratification, medical record analyses and tumour diagnosis. Herein, this review thoroughly summarizes prior investigations on the application of medical images for the detection and intervention of BC using radiomics, namely DL and ML. The aim was to provide guidance to scientists regarding the use of artificial intelligence and ML in research and the clinic.

Enhancing Internet of Medical Things security with artificial intelligence: A comprehensive review

Over the past five years, interest in the literature regarding the security of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has increased. Due to the enhanced interconnectedness of IoMT devices, their susceptibility to cyber-attacks has proportionally escalated. Motivated by the promising potential of AI-related technologies to improve certain cybersecurity measures, we present a comprehensive review of this emerging field. In this review, we attempt to bridge the corresponding literature gap regarding modern cybersecurity technologies that deploy AI techniques to improve their performance and compensate for security and privacy vulnerabilities. In this direction, we have systematically gathered and classified the extensive research on this topic. Our findings highlight the fact that the integration of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques improves both the performance of cybersecurity measures and their speed, reliability, and effectiveness. This may be proven to be useful for improving the security and privacy of IoMT devices. Furthermore, by considering the numerous advantages of AI technologies as opposed to their core cybersecurity counterparts, including blockchain, anomaly detection, homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, federated learning, and so on, we provide a structured overview of the current scientific trends. We conclude with considerations for future research, emphasizing the promising potential of AI-driven cybersecurity in the IoMT landscape, especially in patient data protection and in data-driven healthcare.

Stress Monitoring Using Machine Learning, IoT and Wearable Sensors

The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a fundamental framework for interconnected device communication, representing a relatively new paradigm and the evolution of the Internet into its next phase. Its significance is pronounced in diverse fields, especially healthcare, where it finds applications in scenarios such as medical service tracking. By analyzing patterns in observed parameters, the anticipation of disease types becomes feasible. Stress monitoring with wearable sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) is a potential application that can enhance wellness and preventative health management. Healthcare professionals have harnessed robust systems incorporating battery-based wearable technology and wireless communication channels to enable cost-effective healthcare monitoring for various medical conditions. Network-connected sensors, whether within living spaces or worn on the body, accumulate data crucial for evaluating patients' health. The integration of machine learning and cutting-edge technology has sparked research interest in addressing stress levels. Psychological stress significantly impacts a person's physiological parameters. Stress can have negative impacts over time, prompting sometimes costly therapies. Acute stress levels can even constitute a life-threatening risk, especially in people who have previously been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder or schizophrenia. To offer a proactive solution within the realm of smart healthcare, this article introduces a novel machine learning-based system termed "Stress-Track". The device is intended to track a person's stress levels by examining their body temperature, sweat, and motion rate during physical activity. The proposed model achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 99.5%, showcasing its potential impact on stress management and healthcare enhancement.
