Plasma cell granuloma of the urinary bladder: A pseudotumor - A clinical dilemma

Plasma cell granuloma is a rare benign proliferative lesion that often mimics a malignant mass clinically and radiologically and its presentation in the urinary bladder is exceptional. Presuming malignant mass, such lesions often receive radical treatment. We are presenting here one such tumor, which resembled as an urachal tumor and underwent partial cystectomy.

Pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic proliferation of the urinary bladder

Pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic proliferation (PMP) of the bladder is a rare, benign, and proliferative lesion of the submucosal stroma. We report a 38-year-old female patient who was initially diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder under intravenous pyelography. Bladder tumor was resected by the transurethral method, and pathology disclosed a picture compatible with pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic proliferation. However, local recurrence was found 2 months later, and tumor resection was performed again. The patient has been followed-up at our outpatient department for a year without any evidence of recurrence.

Inflammatory pseudotumor: a rare cause of hematuria and shock

We report the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic findings of a case of inflammatory pseudotumor in an otherwise healthy 44-year-old woman, who presented with dysuria and hematuria causing hemodynamic instability. Computed tomography revealed a 4.3-cm by 3.5-cm densely enhancing mass arising from the anterior bladder wall. Pathologic examination showed spindle-shaped cells with mild nuclear pleomorphism, rare mitotic activity, and a strong reaction to vimentin, with focal positivity to alpha-actin and S100 protein. Monokeratin, CK7, and CK20 were negative. After two transurethral resections, the patient underwent partial cystectomy.

Inflammatory pseudotumor of urinary bladder - a diagnostic and management dilemma

Inflammatory pseudotumors (IPT) are uncommon, benign, non-epithelial tumors of the urinary bladder. Only less than 30 cases have been reported so far in world's literature. The transititional cell carcinoma constitutes 90% of malignant epithelial tumors of urinary bladder. Large, endoscopically unresectable tumors require radical surgery. IPT resemble such tumors, morphologically, radiologically and clinically. The benign nature of this tumor warrants conservative surgical management, either transurethral resection or partial cystectomy. Awareness of this entity and its inclusion in the differential diagnosis may prevent unnecessary radical surgery. We report an unusual case of inflammatory pseudotumor of urinary bladder because of its diagnostic and management dilemma.

Chromosomal abnormalities in inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder

Inflammatory pseudotumors of the urinary bladder are rare, benign, nonepithelial tumors. Fewer than 30 have been reported, and no data are available on their karyotypic characteristics and/or the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis. We performed short-term culturing and cytogenetic analysis of an inflammatory pseudotumor of the bladder, finding a der(20)t(12;20)(q13 approximately q15;q13) as the only cytogenetic aberration. The detection of a 12q13 approximately q15 rearrangement in the inflammatory pseudotumor indicates that this lesion is pathogenetically related to other benign mesenchymal tumors displaying, for example, lipogenic or leiomyomatous differentiation, something that is in sharp contrast to the karyotypic profile of epithelial tumors of the urinary bladder mucosa.
