Abstract
BACKGROUND Exercise can improve the symptoms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Traditional pairwise meta-analyses of exercise interventions can only identify the difference in effect between an exercise intervention and usual care. It is necessary to conduct network meta-analyses to establish evidence on the comparative effectiveness of all relevant exercise intervention strategies. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the comparative effectiveness of all known exercise interventions for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, rank the best exercise intervention and explore the influencing factors of exercise intervention. DESIGN Systematic review and network meta-analysis. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted in 14 databases. Risk of bias assessment, quality of evidence, sensitivity analysis, subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed on the included studies. A network meta-analysis was used to identify the optimal exercise intervention. RESULTS Twenty-four eligible studies were included, and a total of 19 interventions were identified. Regular physical training combined with sensorimotor exercise, sensorimotor exercise, aerobic combined with resistance and balance training, aerobic exercise and resistance training had statistically significant differences in reducing CIPN symptoms with SMD and 95 % CI were - 1.06 (-1.77, -0.36), -0.61 (-1.08, -0.14), -1.88 (-2.81, -0.94), 0.94 (0.39, 1.49) and - 1.31 (-1.87, -0.74). For pain, the most effective interventions included hand-foot exercises, aerobic combined with resistance training, muscular strength combined with balance exercises, SMD and 95 % CI were - 1.99 (-2.85, -1.13), -1.13 (-1.58, -0.67) and - 1.04 (-1.66, -0.41). Endurance combined with strength training, endurance combined with resistance and balance training, regular physical training combined with sensorimotor exercise and balance training were found to be effective in treating balance with SMD and 95 % CI were 1.61 (0.74, 2.48), 1.10 (0.31, 1.88), 0.92 (0.23, 1.61), and 1.40 (0.59, 2.21). Nerve gliding exercises, aerobic combined with resistance and flexibility exercises, endurance combined with strength training, aerobic combined with resistance training and balance training were found to be effective in treating muscular strength with SMD and 95 % CI were 1.09 (0.48, 1.70), 0.94 (0.29, 1.60), 1.13 (0.32, 1.94), 0.75 (0.51, 1.00) and 1.00 (0.23, 1.76). Subgroup analysis showed that frequency of exercise, duration of exercise, exercise time per session, type of exercise supervision, types of cancer, types of chemotherapy drugs and age had a significant effect on CIPN patients. CONCLUSIONS This network meta-analysis found that multimodal exercise, consisting of aerobic, balance, resistance and sensorimotor training, was the most effective intervention for CIPN in adults. Healthcare professionals should consider the effects of patient characteristics and different exercise doses on CIPN patients. REGISTRATION CRD42024500334.

Abstract
PURPOSE Accidental falls among adult cancer survivors are a health concern. Falls impose economic burdens and detrimental consequences to cancer survivors. This review aimed to synthesize findings from published research to explore the relationship between falls and cancer diagnosis and treatment among cancer survivors. MATERIALS AND METHODS A scoping review was conducted using four databases (Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Scopus) for the years 2001-2021. A total of 425 abstracts were identified after removing duplicates. A second search for the years 2022-2023 was completed where 80 abstracts were identified. Abstract screening, full-text review, and data extraction were conducted. Study characteristics and key findings were extracted from full texts. Descriptive numerical summaries were presented, and narrative analyses were performed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS A total of 42 articles were included in the scoping review which demonstrated (1) an increased prevalence of falls among cancer survivors, (2) the presence of cancer-specific fall risk factors, (3) a lack of cancer-specific fall prediction tools, and (4) few fall prevention interventions as part of usual care among cancer survivors. Younger cancer survivors were underrepresented. Cancer survivors should be aware of their risk of falls, and health professionals should ensure that fall prevention is part of usual care.

Abstract
Yoga has been explored as a health modality to maintain mental and physical health and as a complementary therapy for managing various medical conditions. It has been most recently researched for its ability to decrease inflammatory markers responsible for various ailments. This opens the door for its potential role as an adjunct therapy in inflammatory-led dysfunctions such as autoimmune disorders. Although there has been a robust amount of data on yoga and autoimmune conditions, previous reviews have mostly been limited to the physical improvements that patients experience rather than the mental health changes. This scoping review aims to address the role of yoga as an effective therapy choice in treatment and management options for the mental health symptoms associated with autoimmune disorders. The initial search revealed 211 relevant studies, but following an extensive review, 11 articles were included in the final analysis. Yoga interventions ranged from six weeks to up to six months and included Iyengar yoga, Hatha yoga, and generalized yoga practices that did not fit into a specific subtype. Eight articles analyzed patients with multiple sclerosis, two focused on rheumatoid arthritis and one assessed irritable bowel disease. Between the 11 studies included in this review, the key markers analyzed were stress level, anxiety, sleep, self-efficacy, depression, and emotional fatigue. Significant improvement was found in all these subtypes. Yoga is a viable, non-pharmaceutical treatment for both the physical and mental health components of patients with autoimmune disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Survivors of childhood central nervous system (CNS) tumors can develop motor and sensory impairment from their cancer and treatment history. We estimated the prevalence of motor and sensory impairment in survivors compared with controls through clinical assessment and identified associated treatment exposures and functional, quality of life (QOL), and social outcomes. METHODS Survivors of childhood CNS tumors from the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort (n = 378, median [range] age 24.0 [18.0-53.0] years, 43.4% female) ≥5 years from diagnosis and controls (n = 445, median [range] age 34.0 [18.0-70.0] years, 55.7% female) completed in-person evaluation for motor and sensory impairment using the modified Total Neuropathy Score. Impairment was graded by modified Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. Multivariable models estimated associations between grade ≥2 motor/sensory impairment, individual/treatment characteristics, and secondary outcomes (function by Physical Performance Test, fitness by physiologic cost index, QOL by Medical Outcomes Survey Short Form-36 physical/mental summary scores, social attainment). RESULTS Grade ≥2 motor or sensory impairment was more prevalent in survivors (24.1%, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 19.8%-29.4%) than controls (2.9%, CI 1.4-4.5%). Among survivors, in multivariable models, motor impairment was associated with vinca exposure <15 mg/m2 versus none (OR 4.38, CI 1.06-18.08) and etoposide exposure >2036 mg/m2 versus none (OR 12.61, CI 2.19-72.72). Sensory impairment was associated with older age at diagnosis (OR 1.09, CI 1.01-1.16) and craniospinal irradiation versus none (OR 4.39, CI 1.68-11.50). There were lower odds of motor/sensory impairment in survivors treated in the year 2000 or later versus before 1990 (Motor: OR 0.29, CI 0.10-0.84, Sensory: OR 0.35, CI 0.13-0.96). Motor impairment was associated with impaired physical QOL (OR 2.64, CI 1.22-5.72). CONCLUSIONS In survivors of childhood CNS tumors, motor and sensory impairment is prevalent by clinical assessment, especially after exposure to etoposide, vinca, or craniospinal radiation. Treating motor impairment may improve survivors' QOL.

Abstract
This article provides guidance on the integral role of physical therapy, occupational therapy (OT), and speech language pathology (SLP) in palliative care (PC), underlining the necessity for effective communication between physicians and therapists, the importance of caregiver education and support, the application of holistic treatment modalities in OT, the underutilization of resources in PC settings, the role of SLP professionals in feeding and nutrition, and the challenges in communication during the advanced stages of illness. The article draws on various studies and expert opinions to elucidate these issues, offering a valuable resource to health care professionals in ensuring high-quality patient-centered PC.

Abstract
PURPOSE To summarizes the available evidence on the effectiveness, safety, and feasibility of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the management of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). METHODS We searched for systematic reviews, and meta-analyzes published up to April 2023 in the Pubmed and Web of Science databases. The latest original research on related topics was also reviewed. The search was restricted to English-language papers. Two independent reviewers performed a quality assessment of the identified literature. RESULTS The results of 35 systematic reviews and meta-analyzes were included in this study. Preliminary evidence suggests that CAM, including acupuncture, physical activity (PA), herbal and nutritional supplements, mind-body therapies, touch therapy, and non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, have shown tremendous potential for the prevention and treatment of CIPN. Of these, there is strong evidence supporting acupuncture, PA, and herbal medicine. However, existing clinical studies are also limited by the heterogeneity of study methods, insufficient sample size, and poor study design. Further studies are needed to validate the efficacy of CAM in patients with CIPN and to elucidate potential therapeutic mechanisms. CONCLUSIONS Current research has reached a preliminary conclusion suggesting the potential efficacy of certain CAMs in the management of CIPN. Future clinical trials should incorporate more robust study design protocols and larger sample sizes to enhance the validity of findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Yoga interventions need fidelity monitoring to standardize the trial process and ensure adherence. We examined fidelity measures of current yoga trials and developed a fidelity assurance process in a phase III randomized clinical trial addressing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy among cancer survivors. METHODS We qualitatively analyzed the fidelity monitoring components in published clinical trials on yoga therapy for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy through a literature search in PubMed from inception to February 2023. Leveraging fidelity measures for community-based, complex interventions and yoga therapy reporting guidelines, we developed an instructor/participant-oriented fidelity checking approach in an ongoing phase III trial evaluating yoga for improving chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in cancer survivors. Two researchers independently assessed 4 of 8 video recordings of yoga instructor-led training sessions (50%) and participant-kept home practice logs using a developed fidelity checklist. RESULTS None of the 4 eligible yoga trials specifically have intervention fidelity measures. We prospectively incorporated yoga instructor training, virtual delivery, and participant engagement strategies in the phase III trial protocol following guidelines. All trial yoga instructors were trained under study protocol to ensure compliance and participant engagement. There was high intervention fidelity in all instructor-led virtual sessions: an average of 100% adherence to class structure and three-thirds on specific skills. Assessment of participant adherence to the established home yoga protocol was 63%. CONCLUSION Yoga trials for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy need adequate fidelity measures. Our study provides a feasible fidelity-monitoring approach to ensure trial intervention delivery and protocol adherence by instructors and participants in oncological settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pain post-treatment is a debilitating symptom in the growing population of cancer survivors. While physical activity is an integral part of pain management, low levels of physical activity are often observed in this population. The aim of this systematic review is to gain insight into the barriers and facilitators to physical activity in cancer survivors afflicted with pain. METHODS In December 2021, a systematic search was conducted using PubMed and Web of Science. All studies exploring barriers and/or facilitators to physical activity in cancer survivors with pain were included. The methodological quality of the evidence was appraised with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (version 2018). RESULTS Six articles were included. Current literature was limited and mostly focused on female breast cancer survivors. The identified barriers and facilitators could be categorized into six different domains: the logistical, symptoms, cognitive, clinical, social, and knowledge domain. The barrier of pain was reported as a barrier on its own that is closely linked to other barriers in this specific population. CONCLUSION Barriers and facilitators to physical activity were categorized in six different domains. The barrier of pain distinguishes itself and brings along additional obstacles such as anxiety, fear, and avoidance behavior. Current evidence is limited and focuses mostly on female breast cancer survivors. Further research in larger cohorts representing various subsets of cancer survivors with pain is warranted, as well as studies that implement these insights in physical activity interventions.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to evaluate the impact of peripheral neuropathy symptoms throughout with monthly follow-ups during 4 months of paclitaxel treatment. METHODS This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted with 79 patients. The study population consisted of female patients with breast cancer between August 2018 and January 2019. ''Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool'' and ''EORTC C30 Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire'' were applied with four follow-ups. The study was undertaken in accordance with the STROBE checklist for cross- sectional studies. RESULTS The Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool except for the general activity subdimension were statistically significant in the ratings of second, compared to first; third compared to first and second; fourth compared to first, second, and third follow-up periods. The overall mean of the EORTC C30 Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, functioning, symptom, and global health status were statistically significant in the evaluations of second, compared with first; third compared with first and second; fourth compared with first, second, and third follow-up periods. CONCLUSION Findings from this study suggest that the increase in neuropathy symptoms during cures negatively affects the quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the effectiveness of acupuncture alone or with additional integrative oncology modalities for taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy-related symptoms in patients with gynecological and breast cancer. METHODS The study was a prospective evaluation of patients undergoing twice-weekly treatments with either acupuncture alone (single-modality, group A) or with additional manual-movement and mind-body therapies (multimodality, group B), for 6 weeks. Symptom severity was assessed at baseline, 6 weeks, and 9 weeks using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Taxane (FACT-Tax) tool; and von Frey perception thresholds. Additional symptoms were also assessed with the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing (MYCaW) study tool. RESULTS For the 120 participants (60 in each study arm), baseline to 6-week scores were similar in both groups for improved FACT-Tax physical wellbeing and scores for hand numbness/tingling; EORTC physical functioning and global health status; and MYCaW scores. FACT-Tax taxane subscales and scores for foot numbness/tingling improved only in group A (p=0.038), while emotional wellbeing FACT-Tax (p=0.02) and EORTC pain (p=0.005) improved only in group B. Group B showed greater improvement for FACT-Tax neuropathy-related concerns than group A at 24 hours (p=0.043) and 7 days (p=0.009) after the first treatment. CONCLUSION Acupuncture alone or with additional integrative oncology modalities may help reduce neuropathy-related symptoms. The single-modality group demonstrated greater improvement for foot numbness/tingling, and the multimodality group demonstrated improvement for pain and improved emotional wellbeing and neuropathy-related concerns in the first week of treatment. Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a debilitating and often painful condition that occurs after administration of chemotherapeutic agents. The primary objective of this systematic review was to appraise the literature on conservative, pharmacological, and interventional treatment options for CIPN pain. RECENT FINDINGS There is level I evidence supporting modest to moderate improvement in CIPN pain from duloxetine treatment, as well as short-term modest improvement from physical therapy and acupuncture. Although opioid and cannabis administration may provide short-term modest improvement, administration is commonly limited by side effects. Generally, most studies reported no clinical benefit from yoga, topical neuropathic agents, gabapentinoids, and tricyclic antidepressants. Evidence is currently equivocal for scrambler therapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Finally, evidence on neuromodulation options is limited to mostly case reports/series and one observational study highlighting moderate improvement with auricular nerve stimulation. This systematic review provides an overview of conservative, pharmacologic, and interventional treatment modalities for CIPN pain. Furthermore, it provides a level of evidence and degree of recommendation based on the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) criteria for each specific treatment modality.

Abstract
Background: Most individuals affected by cancer who are treated with certain chemotherapies suffer of CIPN. Therefore, there is a high patient and provider interest in complementary non-pharmacological therapies, but its evidence base has not yet been clearly pointed out in the context of CIPN. Methods: The results of a scoping review overviewing the published clinical evidence on the application of complementary therapies for improving the complex CIPN symptomatology are synthesized with the recommendations of an expert consensus process aiming to draw attention to supportive strategies for CIPN. The scoping review, registered at PROSPERO 2020 (CRD 42020165851), followed the PRISMA-ScR and JBI guidelines. Relevant studies published in Pubmed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PEDro, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CINAHL between 2000 and 2021 were included. CASP was used to evaluate the methodologic quality of the studies. Results: Seventy-five studies with mixed study quality met the inclusion criteria. Manipulative therapies (including massage, reflexology, therapeutic touch), rhythmical embrocations, movement and mind-body therapies, acupuncture/acupressure, and TENS/Scrambler therapy were the most frequently analyzed in research and may be effective treatment options for CIPN. The expert panel approved 17 supportive interventions, most of them were phytotherapeutic interventions including external applications and cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, and tactile stimulation. More than two-thirds of the consented interventions were rated with moderate to high perceived clinical effectiveness in therapeutic use. Conclusions: The evidence of both the review and the expert panel supports a variety of complementary procedures regarding the supportive treatment of CIPN; however, the application on patients should be individually weighed in each case. Based on this meta-synthesis, interprofessional healthcare teams may open up a dialogue with patients interested in non-pharmacological treatment options to tailor complementary counselling and treatments to their needs.

Abstract
Brain cancer and leukemia are the most common cancers diagnosed in the pediatric population and are often treated with lifesaving chemotherapy. However, chemotherapy causes severe adverse effects and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a major dose-limiting and debilitating side effect. CIPN can greatly impair quality of life and increases morbidity of pediatric patients with cancer, with the accompanying symptoms frequently remaining underdiagnosed. Little is known about the incidence of CIPN, its impact on the pediatric population, and the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms, as most existing information stems from studies in animal models or adult cancer patients. Herein, we aim to provide an understanding of CIPN in the pediatric population and focus on the 6 main substance groups that frequently cause CIPN, namely the vinca alkaloids (vincristine), platinum-based antineoplastics (cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin), taxanes (paclitaxel and docetaxel), epothilones (ixabepilone), proteasome inhibitors (bortezomib) and immunomodulatory drugs (thalidomide). We discuss the clinical manifestations, assessments and diagnostic tools, as well as risk factors, pathophysiological processes and current pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches for the prevention and treatment of CIPN.

Abstract
Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common and debilitating side effect of cancer treatment with no effective preventative strategy or definitive treatment. Purpose: To synthesize empiric literature from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of pharmacological and nonpharmacological management of CIPN. Data Sources: Articles published between January 1, 2010, and February 28, 2021, were identified using keywords searching Medline, PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase. Study Selection: RCTs that recruited individuals who were post-chemotherapy and experienced persistent CIPN symptoms. Data Extraction and Synthesis: Three independent reviewers screened a total of 2023 abstracts. After screening, full-text review, and quality appraisal, 22 articles were included in this review. Data related to study design, participant characteristics, interventions, controls, outcome measures, and relevant findings were extracted from full texts. Descriptive quantitative summaries were calculated and narrative analysis was performed. Results: Of the 22 studies, 4 investigated pharmacologic treatments, 2 compared acupuncture to pharmacologic treatments, and 16 studies examined nonpharmacologic treatments. Pharmacologic studies reported mixed results with evidence of participant response varying by history of chemotherapeutic agent. Acupuncture, exercise/physical therapy, and neurofeedback appear to be effective treatments for CIPN. Evidence regarding biophysical agents and cognitive-behavioral therapy is equivocal. Scrambler therapy is not supported. Limitations: Studies included in this review share several limitations, including widely variable outcome measures, small and demographically homogenous samples, and nonstandardized treatment protocols. Conclusion: This scoping review summarized the current body of high-quality RCTs investigating treatment for CIPN. The majority of studies in this review reports benefits of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions, although management may require a multipronged approach and should be tailored to the individual. Clinical implications are proposed and suggestions made for future research include implementation of standardized intervention protocols, use of outcome measures representative of the spectrum of CIPN symptoms, and stratification by the chemotherapeutic agent.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) remains a significant toxicity in cancer survivors without preventative strategies or rehabilitation. Exercise and physical activity-based interventions have demonstrated promise in reducing existing CIPN symptoms and potentially preventing toxicity, however there is a significant gap in evidence due to the lack of quality clinical trials and appropriate outcome measures. AREAS COVERED We systematically reviewed outcome measures in CIPN exercise and physical rehabilitation studies with expert panel consensus via the Peripheral Nerve Society Toxic Neuropathy Consortium to provide recommendations for future trials. Across 26 studies, 75 outcome measures were identified and grouped into 16 domains within three core areas - measures of manifestations of CIPN (e.g. symptoms/signs), measures of the impact of CIPN and other outcome measures. EXPERT OPINION This article provides a conceptual framework for CIPN outcome measures and highlights the need for definition of a core outcome measures set. The authors provide recommendations for CIPN exercise and physical rehabilitation trial design and outcome measure selection. The development of a core outcome measure set will be critical in the search for neuroprotective and treatment approaches to support cancer survivors and to address the gap in the identification of effective rehabilitation and treatment options for CIPN.

Abstract
OPINION STATEMENT Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common toxicity associated with treatment with platinum-based agents, taxanes, vinca alkaloids, and other specific agents. The long-term consequences of this condition can result in decreased patient quality of life and can lead to reduced dose intensity, which can negatively impact disease outcomes. There are currently no evidence-based preventative strategies for CIPN and only limited options for treatment. However, there are several strategies that can be utilized to improve patient experience and outcomes as more data are gathered in the prevention and treatment setting. Before treatment, patient education on the potential side effects of chemotherapy is key, and although trials have been limited, recommending exercise and a healthy lifestyle before and while undergoing chemotherapy may provide some overall benefit. In patients who develop painful CIPN, our approach is to offer duloxetine and titrate up to 60 mg daily. Chemotherapy doses may also need to be reduced if intolerable symptoms develop during treatment. Some patients may also try acupuncture and physical therapy to help address their symptoms, although this can be limited by cost, time commitment, and patient motivation. Additionally, data on these modalities are currently limited, as studies are ongoing. Overall, approaching each patient on an individual level and tailoring treatment options for them based on overall physical condition, their disease burden, goals of care and co-morbid health conditions, and willingness to trial different approaches is necessary when addressing CIPN.

Abstract
Background Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common, debilitating side effect that worsens quality of life and increases the risk of falls in cancer survivors. Evidence of yoga’s safety and efficacy in treating CIPN is lacking. Methods In a randomized controlled study, we assigned breast and gynecological cancer survivors with persistent moderate-to-severe CIPN pain, numbness, or tingling with a score of 4 or greater (0-10 numeric rating scale [NRS]) for at least 3 months after chemotherapy to 8 weeks of usual care or yoga focused on breathwork and musculoskeletal conditioning. Primary endpoint was treatment arm differences for NRS, and secondary endpoints were Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity subscale (FACT/GOG-Ntx), and Functional Reach Test after week 8. We tested treatment arm differences for each outcome measure using linear mixed models with treatment-by-time interactions. All statistical tests were two-sided. Results We randomly assigned 41 participants into yoga (n = 21) or usual care (n = 20). At week 8, mean NRS pain decreased by 1.95 points (95% confidence interval [CI] = -3.20 to -0.70) in yoga vs 0.65 (95% CI = -1.81 to 0.51) in usual care (P = .14). FACT/GOG-Ntx improved by 4.25 (95% CI = 2.29 to 6.20) in yoga vs 1.36 (95% CI = -0.47 to 3.19) in usual care (P = .035). Functional reach, an objective functional measure predicting the risk of falls, improved by 7.14 cm (95% CI = 3.68 to 10.59) in yoga and decreased by 1.65 cm (95% CI = -5.00 to 1.72) in usual care (P = .001). Four grade 1 adverse events were observed in the yoga arm. Conclusion Among breast and gynecological cancer survivors with moderate-to-severe CIPN, yoga was safe and showed promising efficacy in improving CIPN symptoms.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common complication of cancer treatment, with conventional treatment limited in its ability for prevention or treatment of symptoms. This review addresses the research assessing the effectiveness and safety of complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) in preventing and treating CIPN-related symptoms. RECENT FINDINGS The CIM modalities acupuncture, classical massage, omega-3 fatty acids, and the Japanese Kampo medicine Goshanjishen may be of benefit in preventing or treating CIPN. Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), glutamine/glutamate, alpha-lipoic acid, and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) are not, with ALCAR increasing symptom severity and vitamin E the risk for developing prostate cancer. CIM therapies with a potential for preventing or treating CIPN-related symptoms should be further investigated. CIM is considered safe when provided within an integrative oncology setting, under the guidance and supervision of an integrative physician.

Abstract
When the 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) chemotherapy regimen is used to treat colorectal cancer (CRC), chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) caused by oxaliplatin can substantially affect quality of life (QOL) in the CRC patients. This study compared emotional distress and QOL during FOLFOX in CRC patients with and without CIPN symptoms.This cross-sectional, descriptive, and comparative study recruited 68 CRC patients receiving FOLFOX at a local teaching hospital and at a medical center in southern Taiwan. Self-reported structured questionnaires (oxaliplatin-associated neuropathy questionnaire, profile of mood states short form, and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, Core 30, version 3.0) were used for 1-time data collection. The Chi-square test, Fisher exact test, and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze data, and a P-value < .05 was considered statistically significant.The CIPN group had 45 (66.2%) patients, and the non-CIPN group had 23 (33.8%) patients. The 5 most common symptoms were coldness-related burning sensation or discomfort in the upper limbs, numbness in the upper limbs, tingling in the upper limbs, impairment of vision, and discomfort in the throat. The CIPN group had more females (P = .013), a more advanced stage of CRC (P = .04) and a higher chemotherapy dosage (P = .006). The 2 groups did not significantly differ in anxiety (P = .065) or depression (P = .135). Compared to the non-CIPN group, the CIPN group had significantly lower functioning (P = .001) and global health status (P < .001) and significantly more symptoms (P < .001).The CIPN group had significantly lower QOL compared to the non-CIPN group. However, the CIPN group did not have lower emotional distress compared to the non-CIPN group. The results of this study demonstrate the need for in-service courses specifically designed to train health professionals in assessing and managing CIPN symptoms to improve QOL in CRC patients receiving FOLFOX.

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of different exercise interventions on quality of life parameters in breast cancer patients during 1 year of outpatient rehabilitation. Material and Methods: A total of 115 breast cancer patients met the eligibility criteria and completed the study. Participants were randomly allocated for the water exercise interventions (group A, n = 45), for the Pilates exercise interventions (group B, n = 40), and yoga exercise interventions (group C, n = 30). The 3 groups attended relevant programs for 1 year and received 144 rehabilitation sessions. Quality of life parameters were assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy questionnaire with a specific module for breast cancer patients (FACT-B). Quality of life data were recorded at baseline and after 6 and 12 months of exercise interventions. Results: A significant increase in quality of life indicators was observed in participants of all groups. Based on the results of the 12-month monitoring, patients of group A scored significantly more points for emotional well-being compared with group B and group C by 1.40 points (P < .05) and 1.69 points (P < .01), respectively, as well as by breast cancer subscale by 2.15 points (P < .05) compared with group B. Patients in group C scored significantly better compared with group A in social/family well-being by 2.80 points (P < .01). Conclusions: It was found that using water exercise intervention is more effective for improving emotional well-being and decreasing negative symptoms associated with breast cancer treatment compared with Pilates and yoga interventions, while yoga was more effective in improving social/family well-being. Further research on water interventions for different populations is warranted.
