Abstract
Quinolones, broad-spectrum antibiotics, are frequently prescribed by urologists for many urological disorders. The mechanism of their bactericidal activity is based on the inhibition of topoisomerase II or IV complex with DNA, which consequently leads to cell death. It has been observed that these antibiotics also act against the analogous enzymes present in eukaryotic cells. Due to their higher accumulation in urine and prostate tissue than in serum, these drugs seem to be ideal candidates for application in genitourinary cancer treatment. In this study, an extensive literature review has been performed to collect information about concentrations achievable in urine and prostate tissue together with information about anticancer properties of 15 quinolones. Special attention was paid to the application of cytotoxic properties of quinolones for bladder and prostate cancer cell lines. Data available in the literature showed promising properties of quinolones, especially in the case of urinary bladder cancer treatment. In the case of prostate cancer, due to low concentrations of quinolones achievable in prostate tissue, combination therapy with other chemotherapeutics or another method of drug administration is necessary.

Abstract
Cutibacterium acnes has been associated with chronic prostatitis, which can potentially favor the appearance of tumors in the prostate. Prostatitis is difficult to treat, and the drug needs to be able to penetrate the prostate. The aim was to investigate the pharmacokinetics of clindamycin in the interstitial fluid of rat prostate using microdialysis. Microdialysis probes were recovered in vitro and in vivo. Clindamycin was administered at 80 mg/kg iv bolus for plasma and tissue pharmacokinetic experiments. A microdialysis probe was implanted in the prostate gland for collections over an 8-hour period. The pharmacokinetic parameters were determined by both compartmental and non-compartmental approaches. Penetration was determined as the ratio between the area under the curve and the time of the clindamycin measurement in the prostate. The recovery of the in vivo probes was 38.11 ± 1.14%. The plasma profile was modeled by a two-compartment pharmacokinetic model. Clindamycin presented a prostate/plasma ratio of 1.02, with free concentrations above the minimum inhibitory concentration for Cutibacterium acnes isolates. This was the first study that determined clindamycin free concentrations in the prostatic fluid of rats. These findings suggest that clindamycin may be an effective alternative for the treatment of prostatitis caused by Cutibacterium acnes.

Abstract
Fluoroquinolones are recommended in the therapy of chronic prostatitis. Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the possible aetiological agents of chronic prostatitis. However, little is known about chlamydia survival in the presence of fluoroquinolones in patients with chronic prostatitis syndrome. For the first time, chlamydia survival in vitro in the presence of lomefloxacin (LOMX) (mostly recommended in the treatment of chronic prostatitis) versus levofloxacin (LVFX) (recommended in the therapy against chlamydia infection) is examined and analysed in the 33 chlamydia-infected patients with chronic prostatitis syndrome in this study. Antichlamydial activity in vitro of LOMX in patients with C. trachomatis and prostatitis was found to be more effective than LVFX. However, further clinical trials for these agents are recommended.

Abstract
Patients with non-inflammatory chronic pelvic pain syndrome, the largest group of prostatitis patients according to the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases classification, are characterized by the absence of objective findings. Nothing thus links the symptoms of this disease to the prostate or other male organs in particular. For this reason, observations on interstitial cystitis in women are of interest to understand the chronic pelvic pain syndrome. New information from studies on the inflammatory response in expressed prostatic secretion in patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome and in bladder tissue from patients with interstitial cystitis indicates that complex systems on the cytokine gene expression level may be operating in these diseases. Research findings point to a common denominator at the level of molecular biology that might explain how the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain syndrome and interstitial cystitis can be precipitated by pathogens, inflammatory reactions and even neurological mechanisms. The initial clinical trial reports of drugs that modulate the inflammatory response in interstitial cystitis are met with great interest.
