Abstract
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs) are closely related to the masticatory muscles, but objective and quantitative methods to evaluate muscle are lacking. IDEAL-IQ, a type of chemical shift-encoded magnetic resonance imaging (CSE-MRI), can quantify the fat fraction (FF). The purpose of this study was to develop an MR IDEAL-IQ-based method for quantitative muscle diagnosis in TMD patients. A total of 65 patients who underwent 3 T MRI scans, including CSE-MRI sequences, were retrospectively included. MRI diagnoses and clinical data were reviewed. There were 19 patients in the normal group and 46 patients in the TMD group with unilateral disc displacement. The TMD group was subdivided into those with and without clenching. The right and left FF values of the masseter, medial, and lateral pterygoid muscles were measured twice by two oral radiologists on CSE-MRI, and the average value was used. FF measurements using CSE-MRI showed excellent intra- and inter-observer agreement (ICC > 0.889 for both). There were no statistically significant differences between the right and left FF values in the masseter, medial pterygoid, and lateral pterygoid of the normal group (p > 0.05). A statistically significant difference was found in the TMD group without clenching, in which the masseter muscle had a statistically significantly lower FF value on the disc displacement side (3.94 ± 1.61) than on the normal side (4.52 ± 2.24) (p < 0.05). CSE-MRI, which can reproducibly quantify muscle FF values, is expected to be a biomarker for objective muscle evaluation in TMD patients. The masseter muscle is expected to be particularly useful compared to other masticatory muscles, but further research is needed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to compare the difference in abdominal fat distribution between different metabolic groups and find the ectopic fat with the most risk significance. METHODS A total of 98 subjects were enrolled; there were 53 cases in the normal glucose metabolism group and 45 cases in the abnormal glucose metabolism group. Chemical shift-encoded magnetic resonance imaging was applied for quantification of pancreatic fat fraction (PFF) and hepatic fat fraction (HFF), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), and visceral adipose tissue (VAT). The correlation and the difference of fat distribution between different metabolism groups were analyzed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the suggestive effect of different body fat fraction. RESULTS Correlation analysis showed that body mass index (BMI) had the strongest correlation with fasting insulin (r = 0.473, p < 0.001), HOMA-IR (r = 0.363, p < 0.001), and C-reactive protein (r = 0.245, p < 0.05). Pancreatic fat has a good correlation with fasting blood glucose (r = 0.247, p < 0.05) and HbA1c (r = 0.363, p < 0.001). With the increase of BMI, PFF, VAT, and SAT showed a clear upward trend, but liver fat was distributed relatively more randomly. The pancreatic fat content in the abnormal glucose metabolism group is significantly higher than that in the normal group, and pancreatic fat is also a reliable indicator of abnormal glucose metabolism, especially in the normal and overweight groups (the area under the curve was 0.859 and 0.864, respectively). CONCLUSION MR-based fat quantification techniques can provide additional information on fat distribution. There are differences in fat distribution among people with different metabolic status. People with more severe pancreatic fat deposition have a higher risk of glucose metabolism disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the association of ectopic fat deposition in the liver and pancreas quantified by Dixon magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with insulin sensitivity and β-cell function in patients with central obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study of 143 patients with central obesity with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), prediabetes (PreD), and untreated type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was conducted between December 2019 and March 2022. All participants underwent routine medical history taking, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory tests, including a standard glucose tolerance test to quantify insulin sensitivity and β-cell function. The fat content in the liver and pancreas was measured with MRI using the six-point Dixon technique. RESULTS Patients with T2DM and PreD had a higher liver fat fraction (LFF) than those with NGT, while those with T2DM had a higher pancreatic fat fraction (PFF) than those with PreD and NGT. LFF was positively correlated with homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), while PFF was negatively correlated with homeostatic model assessment of insulin secretion (HOMA-β). Furthermore, using a structured equation model, we found LFF and PFF to be positively associated with glycosylated hemoglobin via HOMA-IR and HOMA-β, respectively. CONCLUSIONS In patients with central obesity, the effects of LFF and PFF on glucose metabolism. were associated with HOMA-IR and HOMA-β, respectively. Ectopic fat storage in the liver and pancreas quantified by MR Dixon imaging potentially plays a notable role in the onset ofT2DM. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT We highlight the potential role of ectopic fat deposition in the liver and pancreas in the development of type 2 diabetes in patients with central obesity, providing valuable insights into the pathogenesis of the disease and potential targets for intervention. KEY POINTS • Ectopic fat deposition in the liver and pancreas is associated with T2DM. • T2DM and prediabetes patients had higher liver and pancreatic fat fractions than normal individuals. • The results provide valuable insights into pathogenesis of T2DM and potential targets for intervention.

Abstract
Pancreatic diseases are difficult to diagnose due to their insidious onset and complex pathophysiological developmental characteristics. In recent years, dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) imaging technology has rapidly advanced. DECT can quantitatively extract and analyze medical imaging features and establish a correlation between these features and clinical results. This feature enables the adoption of more modern and accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies for patients with pancreatic diseases so as to achieve the goal of non-invasive, low-cost, and personalized treatment. The purpose of this review is to elaborate on the application of DECT for the diagnosis, biological characterization, and prediction of the survival of patients with pancreatic diseases (including pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cystic tumor, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, and pancreatic injury) and to summarize its current limitations and future research prospects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Fat depots localization has a critical role in the metabolic health status of adults. Nevertheless, whether that is also the case in children remains under-studied. Therefore, the aims of this study were: (i) to examine the differences between metabolically healthy (MHO) and unhealthy (MUO) overweight/obesity phenotypes on specific abdominal fat depots, and (ii) to further explore whether cardiorespiratory fitness plays a major role in the differences between metabolic phenotypes among children with overweight/obesity. METHODS A total of 114 children with overweight/obesity (10.6 ± 1.1 years, 62 girls) were included. Children were classified as MHO (n = 68) or MUO. visceral (VAT), abdominal subcutaneous (ASAT), intermuscular abdominal (IMAAT), psoas, hepatic, pancreatic, and lumbar bone marrow adipose tissues were measured by magnetic resonance imaging. Cardiorespiratory fitness was assessed using the 20 m shuttle run test. RESULTS MHO children had lower VAT and ASAT contents and psoas fat fraction compared to MUO children (difference = 12.4%-25.8%, all p < 0.035). MUO-unfit had more VAT and ASAT content than those MUO-fit and MHO-fit (difference = 34.8%-45.3%, all p < 0.044). MUO-unfit shows also greater IMAAT fat fraction than those MUO-fit and MHO-fit peers (difference = 16.4%-13.9% respectively, all p ≤ 0.001). In addition, MHO-unfit presented higher IMAAT fat fraction than MHO-fit (difference = 13.4%, p < 0.001). MUO-unfit presented higher psoas fat fraction than MHO-fit (difference = 29.1%, p = 0.008). CONCLUSIONS VAT together with ASAT and psoas fat fraction, were lower in MHO than in MUO children. Further, we also observed that being fit, regardless of metabolic phenotype, has a protective role over the specific abdominal fat depots among children with overweight/obesity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to analyze the quantitative fat fraction (FF) of the parotid gland in menopausal females with xerostomia using the iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation (IDEAL-IQ) method. METHODS A total 138 parotid glands of 69 menopausal females were enrolled in our study and participants were divided into normal group and xerostomia group. The xerostomia group was divided into those with or without Sjögren's syndrome. Participants underwent IDEAL-IQ sequences of MRI and the stimulated salivary flow test (s-SFR). The unpaired t-test was used to compare the FFs between the normal and xerostomia groups and between the subgroups with and without Sjögren's syndrome. The correlation between FF and s-SFR was analyzed by Pearson's correlation. RESULTS Excellent intra- and interobserver agreement during the measurement of FFs by IDEAL-IQ method (ICC>0.99, respectively). FF value in the xerostomia group was statistically significantly higher than the value in the normal group (p < 0.05). Within the xerostomia group, the average FF value of females with Sjögren's syndrome was higher than that of females without Sjögren's syndrome. However, the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Within the xerostomia group, FF value correlated negatively with s-SFR (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The FF of the parotid gland was higher in the xerostomia group than in the normal group and FF value and s-SFR showed a negative correlation. Analyses of the FF using IDEAL-IQ in menopausal females can be helpful for the quantitative diagnosis of xerostomia.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Excess abdominal fat is a major determinant in the development of insulin resistance and other metabolic disorders. Increased visceral adipose tissue (VAT) seems to precede the development of insulin resistance and is therefore a prime target of childhood lifestyle interventions aimed at preventing diabetes. OBJECTIVES To examine the effect of added exercise to a family-based lifestyle intervention program designed to reduce VAT plus subcutaneous (ASAT), intermuscular (IMAAT), and pancreatic (PAT) adipose tissue in children with overweight or obesity and to explore the effect of changes in VAT on insulin resistance. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This 2-group, parallel-design clinical trial was conducted in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. A total of 116 children with overweight or obesity participated and were assigned to a 22-week family-based lifestyle program (control group [n = 57]) or the same program plus an exercise intervention (exercise group [n = 59]). Data were collected between September 1, 2014, and June 30, 2017, and imaging processing for fat depot assessments and data analysis were performed between May 1, 2019, and February 12, 2021. INTERVENTIONS The compared interventions consisted of a family-based lifestyle and psychoeducation program (two 90-minute sessions per month) and the same program plus supervised exercise (three 90-minute sessions per week). MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary outcome of this study was the change in VAT between baseline and 22 weeks as estimated by magnetic resonance imaging. The secondary outcomes were changes in ASAT, IMAAT, and PAT. The effect of changes in VAT area on insulin resistance was also recorded. RESULTS The 116 participants included in the analysis (62 girls [53.4%]) had a mean (SD) age of 10.6 (1.1) years, and 67 (57.8%) presented with obesity. Significantly greater reductions were recorded for the exercise group in terms of reduction in VAT (-18.1% vs -8.5% for the control group; P = .004), ASAT (-9.9% vs -3.0%; P = .001), and IMAAT (-6.0% vs -2.6%; P = .02) fat fractions compared with the control group. Changes in VAT explained 87.6% of the improvement seen in insulin resistance (β = -0.102 [95% CI, -0.230 to -0.002]). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE These findings suggest that the addition of exercise to a lifestyle intervention program substantially enhanced the positive effects on abdominal fat depots in children with overweight or obesity. In addition, the reduction in VAT seemed to largely mediate the improvement of insulin sensitivity. These results highlight the importance of including exercise as part of lifestyle therapies aimed at treating childhood obesity and preventing the development of type 2 diabetes. Abstract
AIMS To explore the effects of six months of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on pancreatic fat content and its impact on β-cell function. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 106 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomized to either a moderate-intensity aerobic training group (three times a week, including 5 min warm-up, 50 min aerobic dancing, and 5 min relaxation, n = 53) or control group (n = 53) with 6-month intervention. The primary endpoint was change in pancreatic fat content. An intention-to-treat analysis was conducted. RESULTS Eighty-six patients completed the study with 43 patients in the aerobic training group. The average age, HbA1c, and pancreatic fat content for all participants (106 patients) were 66.39 ± 5.59 years, 7.05 ± 1.24%, and 10.35 ± 9.20%, respectively. Nearly half (49.06%) of patients were males. Subjects in the aerobic training group saw a significant reduction in pancreatic fat content when compared to controls (p = 0.001). In logistic regression models containing age, diabetes duration, change in BMI, smoking/drinking status, changes in lipid indices, and other abdominal fat content, only reduction in pancreatic fat content (p < 0.05) was an independent protective factor for β-cell function and HbA1c. CONCLUSIONS Six months of moderate-intensity aerobic training significantly reduced the pancreatic fat content. The reduction of pancreatic fat content was an independent protective factor for β-cell function and HbA1c.

Abstract
Objective To compare the reliability of different methods for measuring fat content of pancreas by MR modified Dixon(mDixon) Sequence and accurately evaluate pancreatic fat in as simple a way as possible. Methods This is a retrospective study, 64 patients were included in this study who underwent abdominal MR scan that contained the mDixon sequence from June 2019 to May 2020(Included 7 patients with type 2 diabetes and 4 patients with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), they were admitted to hospital through the obesity clinic set up by endocrine department, all of them were initially diagnosed and untreated). All of the 64 patients were scanned in 3.0T MR (Philips Ingenia II) due to their condition, 10–34 slice pancreas images were obtained, which were different from each other. Three different methods of measurement were employed by two observers using Philips Intellispace Portal software: (1) All images (whole-pancreas) measurement, the whole-pancreatic fat fraction (wPFF) was calculated by software. (2) Interval slices measurement, that is half-pancreatic slices fat fraction (hPFF) measured in the same way, fat fraction obtained by the interlayer assay was calculated. (3) As usual, the fat content of pancreatic head, body and tail fat was measured respectively, and in order to improve credibility, we also measured head、 body and tail in every layer, and its average value was taken. The elapsed time of the above different measurement methods was recorded. Intra-group correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to analyze the consistency of the measured data within and between observers. T-tests and Friedman tests were applied to compare the difference of measuredvalues among groups. Results No matter in normal person or diabetic or IGT, hPFF has shown good stability (ICChPFF = 0.988), and there was no significant difference compared with wPFF. But the average fat percentage composition of head, body and tail were significantly different from wPFF and hPFF (P < 0.01). At the same time, compared with normal person, pancreatic fat content in IGT and diabetic patients showed progressive significance(P<0.05). Conclusion The distribution of pancreatic fat is not uniform, the method of measuring half pancreas by interlayer data collection can reflect the fat content of the entire pancreas, this suggests that measuring 50% of the pancreas is sufficient, this method effectively saves time and effort without affecting the results, which may have a better clinical application prospect.

Abstract
Background Bone marrow of patients with aplastic anemia (AA) is different from that of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and is difficult to identify by blood examination. IDEAL‐IQ (iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least‐squares estimation) imaging might be able to quantify fat fraction (FF) and iron content in bone tissues. Purpose To determine if IDEAL‐IQ measurements of bone marrow FF and iron content can distinguish between patients with AA and MDS. Study Type Retrospective. Population Fifty‐seven patients with AA, 21 patients with MDS, and 24 healthy controls. Field Strength/Sequence 3.0 T, IDEAL‐IQ sequence. Assessment Three independent observers evaluated the IDEAL‐IQ images and measured FF and R2* in the left posterior superior iliac spine. Statistical Tests Kruskal–Wallis test, linear correlations, and Bland–Altman analysis were used. A P‐value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results The FF in patients with AA (79.46% ± 15.00%) was significantly higher than that in patients with MDS (42.78% ± 30.09%) and control subjects (65.50% ± 14.73%). However, there was no significant difference in FF between control subjects and patients with MDS (P = 0.439). The R2* value of AA, MDS, and controls was 145.38 ± 53.33, (171.13 ± 100.89, and 135.99 ± 32.41/second, respectively, with no significant difference between the three groups (P = 0.553). Data Conclusion Quantitative IDEAL‐IQ magnetic resonance imaging may facilitate the diagnosis of AA and distinguish it from MDS. Level of Evidence 3 Technical Efficacy Stage 2

Abstract
The prevalence of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is gradually increasing, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is becoming increasingly common as a modality used to diagnose TMD. Edema and osteonecrosis in the bone marrow of the mandibular condyle have been considered to be precursors of osteoarthritis, but these changes are not evaluated accurately and quantitatively on routine MRI. The iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation (IDEAL-IQ) method, as a cutting-edge MRI technique, can separate fat and water using three asymmetric echo times and the three-point Dixon method. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quantitative fat fraction (FF) in the mandibular condyle head using the IDEAL-IQ method. Seventy-nine people who underwent MRI using IDEAL-IQ were investigated and divided into 1) the control group, without TMD symptoms, and 2) the TMD group, with unilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. In both groups, the FF of the condyle head in the TMJ was analyzed by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists. In the TMD group, 29 people underwent cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the presence or absence of bony changes in the condylar head was evaluated. The FF measurements of the condyle head using IDEAL-IQ showed excellent inter-observer and intra-observer agreement. The average FF of the TMD group was significantly lower than that of the control group (p < 0.05). In the TMD group, the average FF values of joints with pain and joints with bony changes were significantly lower than those of joints without pain or bony changes, respectively (p < 0.05). The FF using IDEAL-IQ in the TMJ can be helpful for the quantitative diagnosis of TMD.
