Abstract
BACKGROUND The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) impact of therapies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) influences decision-making and treatment outcomes. The present study reports HRQoL results from NASIR-HCC, a single-arm study of selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) with Y90 resin microspheres followed by nivolumab for unresectable HCC. METHODOLOGY Participants completed the EQ-5D-3 L, EQ-VAS, and FACT-Hep at baseline and on the first day of each nivolumab cycle. Linear mixed-effect models were used to calculate changes in outcomes in participants with the baseline and ≥ 1 follow-up measurement. Changes were assessed for clinical meaningfulness versus published minimally important differences. RESULTS Thirty-two patients from NASIR-HCC were included. Completion rates exceeded 70% at 62% of time points. Across EQ-5D-3 L domains, minimal changes were reported. Most patients had no problems at almost all time points. Mean index values were 0.864 at baseline and 0.763 in cycle 8, but this difference was not clinically meaningful. The small EQ-VAS increase, from 74.8 at baseline to 75.9 in cycle 8, was also not clinically meaningful. The various FACT scales remained stable, although transient but not clinically meaningful declines occurred for some scales. The median time to deterioration was 5.5 months for the FACT-Hep score. CONCLUSIONS Combining SIRT with nivolumab did not compromise HRQoL in patients with unresectable HCC. Study results were limited by the small number of patients but, combined with the previously reported clinical outcomes, suggested that the treatment combination deserves further consideration in this difficult-to-treat population. Abstract
PURPOSE This analysis of the CIRSE Registry for SIR-Spheres Therapy in France, CIRT-FR, reports on real-world outcomes of transarterial radioembolisation (TARE) with Y90 resin microspheres for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) patients in France, focusing on safety, effectiveness and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Results on patients treated based on national reimbursement criteria are discussed here. METHODS Prospective, multicentre, observational study of HCC and CRLM patients treated between August 2017 and July 2020 with TARE Y90 resin microspheres. Patients were assigned to different analysis groups based on reimbursement recommendations. Follow-up period was at least 24 months with patient data collected every 3 months. RESULTS In total, 252 (193 HCC, 59 CRLM) patients of CIRT-FR were included in the analysis. No differences in effectiveness, safety and HRQoL were found between analysis groups based on reimbursement recommendations. Median overall survival for HCC and CRLM was 19.0 (95% CI, 16.1-22.4) and 10.8 (95% CI, 8.0-13.5) months, respectively. Serious procedure-related adverse events occurred in 13% of the patients. HRQoL generally remained stable, with some fluctuations in function scores and symptoms. CONCLUSION In our cohorts, patients performed similarly regarding clinical outcomes irrespective of their analysis group based on reimbursement recommendations. Our results suggest that instead of restrictive reimbursement criteria, more decision-making power in selecting suitable patient groups could be given to multidisciplinary tumour boards. Results confirm that TARE with Y90 resin microspheres is an effective and safe treatment for liver cancer, with maintained HRQoL in most patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Using data collected in the prospective observational study CIRSE Registry for SIR-Spheres Therapy, the present study aimed at identifying predictors of adverse events (AEs) following transarterial radioembolization (TARE) with Yttrium-90 resin microspheres for liver tumours. METHODS We analysed 1027 patients enrolled between January 2015 and December 2017 and followed up for 24 months. Four hundred and twenty-two patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), 120 with intrahepatic carcinoma (ICC), 237 with colorectal liver metastases and 248 with liver metastases from other primaries were included. Prognostic factors were calculated with a univariable analysis by using the overall AEs burden score (AEBS). RESULTS All-cause AEs were reported in 401/1027 (39.1%) patients, with AEs associated with TARE, such as abdominal pain (16.6%), fatigue (17%), and nausea (11.7%) reported most frequently. Grade 3 or higher AEs were reported in 92/1027 (9%) patients. Reports on grade ≥ 3 gastrointestinal ulcerations (0.4%), gastritis (0.3%), radiation cholecystitis (0.2%) or radioembolization-induced liver disease (0.5%) were uncommon. Univariable analysis showed that in HCC, AEBS increased for Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) 0 (p = 0.0045), 1 tumour nodule (0.0081), > 1 TARE treatment (p = 0.0224), no prophylactic embolization (p = 0.0211), partition model dosimetry (p = 0.0007) and unilobar treatment target (0.0032). For ICC, > 1 TARE treatment was associated with an increase in AEBS (p = 0.0224), and for colorectal liver metastases, ECOG 0 (p = 0.0188), > 2 prior systemic treatments (p = 0.0127), and 1 tumour nodule (p = 0.0155) were associated with an increased AEBS. CONCLUSION Our study confirms that TARE is a safe treatment with low toxicity and a minimal impact on quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the Yttrium-90 Microspheres in Cholangiocarcinoma (MISPHEC) single-arm phase 2 trial, concomitant chemotherapy and selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) showed antitumor activity as a first-line treatment of unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas (ICCs). In this sub-analysis, we aimed to evaluate one of the secondary endpoints, the health-related quality of life (QoL), evaluated with an EORTC QLQ-C30 instrument at the baseline and during treatment. METHODS The MISPHEC trial included treatment-naïve patients with an unresectable ICC between November 2013 and June 2016. Patients received concomitant first-line chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine for 8 cycles; SIRT was administered during cycle 1 (for patients with unilobar disease) or cycles 1 and 3 (for patients with bilobar disease) using glass Yttrium-90 microspheres. We evaluated the QoL-measured by the QLQ-C30 questionnaire-at the baseline, every 8 weeks during chemotherapy and follow-up, between 12 and 15 weeks after embolization and every 12 weeks after a liver resection if applicable. RESULTS A total of 41 patients were included, of which 34 completed questionnaires at the baseline. No clinically significant changes in the global health score or the sub-scales of the QLQ-C30 were observed during follow-up. The physical, social and role function mean score worsened during treatment and fatigue, nausea and pain scores increased although the differences were not clinically significant. In patients undergoing subsequent surgery, the QoL was not impaired. CONCLUSIONS A combination of SIRT and chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin as the first-line treatment of unresectable ICCs was found to maintain the QoL.

Abstract
Objective Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) offers a minimally invasive and safe treatment option for primary and metastatic hepatic malignancies. The benefits of TARE are manifold including prolonged overall survival, low associated morbidities, and improved time to progression allowing prolonged treatment-free intervals. The rapid development of new systemic therapies including immunotherapy has radically changed the treatment landscape for primary and metastatic liver cancer. Given the current climate, it is critical for interventional oncologists to understand the benefits of TARE relative to these other therapies. Therefore, this report aims to review quality-of-life outcomes and the cost comparisons of TARE as compared with systemic therapies.

Abstract
Portal vein involvement is considered one of the most fearful complications of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) is associated with aggressive tumor biology (high grade), high tumor burden (number and size of lesions), high levels of serum markers (AFP), poor liver function (deranged LFT), and poor performance status of patients. The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system places HCC patients with PVTT in advanced stage (BCLC Stage-C). This group contains a fairly heterogeneous patient population, previously considered candidates for palliative systemic therapy with sorafenib. However, this provided modest overall survival (OS) benefit. The results of a recent Phase III (IMbrave150) trial favor the combination of atezolizumab and bevacizumab over sorafenib as a standard of care in advanced unresectable HCC. While only lenvatinib proved to be non-inferior against sorafenib in a phase III (REFLECT trial), regorafenib (RESORCE trial), ramucirumab (REACH-2), and cabozantinib (CELESTIAL) have been approved second-line therapy in phase III clinical trials. Recently, the data on the prospect of other modalities in the management of HCC with PVTT is mounting with favorable results. Targeting multiple pathways in the HCC cascade using a combination of drugs and other modalities such as RT, TACE, TARE, and HAIC appear effective for systemic and loco-regional control. The quest for the ideal combination therapy and the sequence set is still widely unanswered and prospective trials are lacking. With the armament of available therapeutic options and the advances and refinements in the delivery system, down-staging patients to make them eligible for curative resection has been reported. In a rapidly evolving treatment landscape, performing surgery when appropriate, in the form of LR and even LT to achieve cure does not seem farfetched. Likewise, adjuvant therapy and prompt management of the recurrences holds the key to prolong OS and DFS. This review discusses the management options of HCC patients with PVTT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The main aim of this study was to investigate comprehensively the clinical effect of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) on patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS The following electronic databases were searched for eligible articles published from inception to July 2020: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library. The main final indicators were overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS A total of 26 studies entailing 4,506 cases were included for a meta-analysis. The results showed that HAIC could improve advanced HCC patients' OS (HR, 0.49; 95% CI: 0.37-0.61) and PFS (HR, 0.52; 95% CI: 0.36-0.68). Remarkably, compared with Japan (HR, 0.58) and Korea (HR, 0.54), for the unresectable HCC patients, the HAIC group achieved higher efficacy on OS than the control group in China (HR, 0.24). The resectable HCC patients, who received HAIC adjuvant chemotherapy, exhibited favorable prognosis for OS (HR, 0.58; 95% CI: 0.27-0.88) and DFS (HR, 0.49; 95% CI: 0.31-0.68). CONCLUSION HAIC improved long-term survival for both resectable and unresectable HCC patients in comparison with other therapies. However, the clinical effect of HAIC needs to be ascertained by large-scale well-designed studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this ancillary study of the SARAH trial is to compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with locally advanced or inoperable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with transarterial radioembolisation (TARE) or sorafenib. METHODS This study included randomised patients who received either TARE or at least one dose of sorafenib with no major deviation in the protocol and who had at least one QoL follow-up assessment in addition to the baseline evaluation. QoL was assessed from the date of randomisation using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 questionnaire, until disease progression or other reasons for stopping study participation. Data were analysed using linear mixed and time-dependent models. RESULTS A total of 285 patients were included (122 and 163, in the TARE and sorafenib groups, respectively). Questionnaire completion rates were similar (77.5% versus 80.4%, in the TARE and sorafenib groups, respectively, p = 0.25). Longitudinal HRQoL analysis showed a significant treatment and time effects for fatigue and global health status, and significant treatment, time and treatment by time interaction effects for appetite loss, diarrhoea and social functioning. The median time to deterioration for the global health status was 3.9 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 3.7-4.3) versus 2.6 months (95% CI 2.0-3.0) in the TARE and sorafenib groups, respectively. CONCLUSIONS HRQoL was preserved longer with TARE than with sorafenib in locally advanced HCC. These data could be used to optimise management of patients with advanced or inoperable HCC.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patient-reported outcomes including health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are important oncological outcome measures. The validation of HRQoL instruments for patients with hepatocellular and cholangiocellular carcinoma is lacking. Furthermore, studies comparing different treatment options in respect to HRQoL are sparse. The objective of the systematic review and meta-analysis was, therefore, to identify all available HRQoL tools regarding primary liver cancer, to assess the methodological quality of these HRQoL instruments and to compare surgical, interventional and medical treatments with regard to HRQoL. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, the Cochrane library, PsycINFO, CINAHL and EMBASE. The methodological quality of all identified HRQoL instruments was performed according to the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurements INstruments (COSMIN) standard. Consequently, the quality of reporting of HRQoL data was assessed. Finally, wherever possible HRQoL data were extracted and quantitative analyses were performed. RESULTS A total of 124 studies using 29 different HRQoL instruments were identified. After the methodological assessment, only 10 instruments fulfilled the psychometric criteria and could be included in subsequent analyses. However, quality of reporting of HRQoL data was insufficient, precluding meta-analyses for 9 instruments. CONCLUSION Using a standardized methodological assessment, specific HRQoL instruments are recommended for use in patients with hepatocellular and cholangiocellular carcinoma. HRQoL data of patients undergoing treatment of primary liver cancers are sparse and reporting falls short of published standards. Meaningful comparison of established treatment options with regard to HRQoL was impossible indicating the need for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma is the third-leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Preservation of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) during treatment is an important therapeutic goal. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of treatment with lenvatinib versus sorafenib on HRQOL. METHODS REFLECT was a previously published multicentre, randomised, open-label, non-inferiority phase 3 study comparing the efficacy and safety of lenvatinib versus sorafenib as a first-line systemic treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Eligible patients were aged 18 years or older with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma and one or more measurable target lesion per modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria, Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage B or C categorisation, Child-Pugh class A, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status of 1 or lower, and adequate organ function. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) via an interactive voice-web response system; stratification factors for treatment allocation included region; macroscopic portal vein invasion, extrahepatic spread, or both; ECOG performance status; and bodyweight. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs), collected at baseline, on day 1 of each subsequent cycle, and at the end of treatment, were evaluated in post-hoc analyses of secondary and exploratory endpoints in the analysis population, which was the subpopulation of patients with a PRO assessment at baseline. A linear mixed-effects model evaluated change from baseline in PROs, including European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30) and hepatocellular carcinoma-specific QLQ-HCC18 scales (both secondary endpoints of the REFLECT trial). Time-to-definitive-deterioration analyses were done based on established thresholds for minimum differences for worsening in PROs. Responder analyses explored associations between HRQOL and clinical response. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01761266. FINDINGS Of 954 eligible patients randomly assigned to lenvatinib (n=478) or sorafenib (n=476) between March 14, 2013, and July 30, 2015, 931 patients (n=468 for lenvatinib; n=463 for sorafenib) were included in this analysis. Baseline PRO scores reflected impaired HRQOL and functioning and considerable symptom burden relative to full HRQOL. Differences in overall mean change from baseline estimates in most PRO scales generally favoured the lenvatinib over the sorafenib group, although the differences were not nominally statistically or clinically significant. Patients treated with lenvatinib experienced nominally statistically significant delays in definitive, meaningful deterioration on the QLQ-C30 fatigue (hazard ratio [HR] 0·83, 95% CI 0·69-0·99), pain (0·80, 0·66-0·96), and diarrhoea (0·52, 0·42-0·65) domains versus patients treated with sorafenib. Significant differences in time to definitive deterioration were not observed for other QLQ-C30 domains, and there was no difference in time to definitive deterioration on the global health status/QOL score (0·89, 0·73-1·09). For most PRO scales, differences in overall mean change from baseline estimates favoured responders versus non-responders. Across all scales, HRs for time to definitive deterioration were in favour of responders; median time to definitive deterioration for responders exceeded those for non-responders by a range of 4·8 to 14·6 months. INTERPRETATION HRQOL for patients undergoing treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma is an important therapeutic consideration. The evidence of HRQOL benefits in clinically relevant domains support the use of lenvatinib compared with sorafenib to delay functional deterioration in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most common lethal cancer, and there is a need for effective therapies. Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) has been increasingly used, but is not supported by guidelines due to a lack of solid evidence. AIMS Determine the efficacy and safety of SIRT in HCC across the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stages A, B, and C. METHODS Consecutive patients that received SIRT between 2006 and 2016 at two centers in Canada were evaluated. RESULTS We analyzed 132 patients, 12 (9%), 62 (47%), and 58 (44%) belonged to BCLC stages A, B, and C; mean age was 61.2 (SD ± 9.2), and 89% were male. Median survival was 12.4 months (95% CI 9.6-16.6), and it was different across the stages: 59.7 (95% CI NA), 12.8 (95% CI 10.2-17.5), and 9.3 months (95% CI 5.9-11.8) in BCLC A, B, and C, respectively (p = 0.009). Independent factors associated with survival were previous HCC treatment (HR 2.01, 95% CI 1.23-3.27, p = 0.005), bi-lobar disease (HR 2.25, 95% CI 1.30-3.89, p = 0.003), ascites (HR 1.77, 95% CI 0.99-3.13, p = 0.05), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (HR 1.11, 95% CI 1.02-1.20, p = 0.01), Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) grade-3 (HR 2.69, 95% CI 1.22-5.92, p = 0.01), tumor thrombus (HR 2.95, 95% CI 1.65-5.24, p < 0.001), and disease control rate (HR 0.62, 95% CI 0.39-0.96, p = 0.03). Forty-four (33%) patients developed severe adverse events, and ALBI-3 was associated with higher risk of these events. CONCLUSIONS SIRT has the potential to be used across the BCLC stages in cases with preserved liver function. When using it as a rescue treatment, one should consider variables reflecting liver function, HCC extension, and systemic inflammation, which are associated with mortality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Assessment of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in oncology is of critical importance because it provides unique information that may also predict clinical outcomes. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of prognostic factor studies to examine the prognostic value of PROs for survival in cancer. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed for studies published between 2013 and 2018. We considered any study, regardless of the research design, that included at least 1 PRO domain in the final multivariable prognostic model. The protocol (EPIPHANY) was published and registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42018099160). RESULTS Eligibility criteria selected 138 studies including 158 127 patients, of which 43 studies were randomized, controlled trials. Overall, 120 (87%) studies reported at least 1 PRO to be statistically significantly prognostic for overall survival. Lung (n = 41, 29.7%) and genitourinary (n = 27, 19.6%) cancers were most commonly investigated. The prognostic value of PROs was investigated in secondary data analyses in 101 (73.2%) studies. The EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire was the most frequently used measure, and its physical functioning scale (range 0-100) the most frequent independent prognostic PRO, with a pooled hazard ratio estimate of 0.88 per 10-point increase (95% CI 0.84-0.92). CONCLUSIONS There is convincing evidence that PROs provide independent prognostic information for overall survival across cancer populations and disease stages. Further research is needed to translate current evidence-based data into prognostic tools to aid in clinical decision making.

Abstract
We reviewed all studies assessing the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) between 2009 and 2018 (n = 45). Most studies assessed HRQoL as an outcome, and evaluated or compared the HRQoL of HCC patients depending on the type of treatment or stage of disease. HCC patients had a worse HRQoL than the general population, including in those with early-stage HCC. Patients commonly experienced pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, distress, and lack of appetite, and these symptoms remained problematic even a few years after treatment. TNM classification of malignant tumors stage, tumor stage, presence of cirrhosis, being Asian, being female, living alone, or being unemployed were associated with a poor HRQoL. While recent studies have included a more diverse patient population, various topics, and different study designs, there were limited studies on supportive interventions. Given the increase in HCC cases and HCC survivors, addressing the HRQoL of HCC patients requires more attention.

Abstract
AIM To describe the epidemiologic, humanistic and economic burdens of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the USA. MATERIALS & METHODS Studies describing the epidemiology and economic burden from national cohorts, any economic models, or any humanistic burden studies published 2008-2018 were systematically searched. RESULTS HCC incidence was 9.5 per 100,000 person-years in most recent data, but was ∼100-times higher among patients with hepatitis/cirrhosis. Approximately a third of patients were diagnosed with advanced disease. Patients with HCC experienced poor quality of life. Direct costs were substantial and varied based on underlying demographics, disease stage and treatment received. Between 25-77% of patients did not receive surgical, locoregional or systemic treatment. CONCLUSION Better treatments are needed to extend survival and improve quality of life for patients with HCC.

Abstract
AbstractPrimary and secondary liver cancers are a major cause of mortality worldwide. Transarterial liver-directed therapy, or embolotherapy, represents an important locoregional treatment strategy for primary and secondary liver tumors. Embolotherapeutic modalities include bland embolization (transarterial embolization), chemoembolization (transarterial chemoembolization), and radioembolization or selective internal radiotherapy. A brief technical overview of embolotherapeutic modalities as well as supportive evidence for the treatment of most common primary and secondary liver tumors will be discussed in this review. Several potential future applications, including synergy with systemic therapy, interventional theranostics, and artificial intelligence will also be reviewed briefly.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents a significant contributor to cancer-related morbidity and mortality with increasing incidence in both developing and developed countries. Embolotherapy as a locoregional therapeutic strategy consists of trans-arterial or "bland" embolization (TAE), trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE), and selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT). Trans-catheter arterial therapies can be applied along all stages of HCC, either as an alternative or neoadjuvant to surgical resection/transplantation in very early and early stage HCC or as a palliative option for local disease control in unresectable and advanced stage HCC. In advanced stage HCC, SIRT did not demonstrate superiority in comparison to systemic treatment options in several recent large prospective trials, though for carefully selected patients, may confer improved tolerability with similar disease control rates. The latest embolotherapeutic techniques and literature as they pertain to the management of HCC, as well as future directions, are reviewed in this article.

Abstract
Holmium-166 radioembolization is a palliative treatment option for patients with unresectable hepatic malignancies. Its influence on quality of life has not been evaluated yet. Since quality of life is very important in the final stages of disease, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of holmium-166 radioembolization on quality of life. Patients with hepatic malignancies were treated with holmium-166 radioembolization in the HEPAR I and II studies. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 and LMC21 questionnaires were used to evaluate quality of life at baseline, 1 week, 6 weeks and at 6, 9 and 12 months after treatment. The course of the global health status and symptom and functioning scales were analyzed using a linear mixed model. Quality of life was studied in a total of 53 patients with a compliance of 94%. Role functioning was the most affected functioning scale. Fatigue and pain were the most affected symptom scales. Changes in almost all categories were most notable at 1 week after treatment. A higher WHO performance score at baseline decreased global health status, physical functioning, role functioning and social functioning and it increased symptoms of fatigue, dyspnea and diarrhea. Quality of life in salvage patients with liver metastases treated with holmium-166 radioembolization was not significantly affected over time, although a striking decline was seen during the first week post-treatment. A WHO performance score > 0 at baseline significantly influenced quality of life.

Abstract
Health-related quality of life has become an important aspect in oncologic decision making. Recent data suggest that Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) measurements can play an important prognostic role in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Locoregional therapies (LRTs) such as radiofrequency ablation, transarterial chemoembolization, and radioembolization (TARE) are important parts of HCC management. Results demonstrated that radiofrequency ablation treatment results in improving HRQoL compared to surgery for up to 3 years after treatment. Between TARE and transarterial chemoembolization, TARE provides the most benefit in terms of HRQoL. This systematic review investigated contemporary data surrounding HRQoL in patients undergoing LRTs and its impact on clinical decision making.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to examine the health-related quality of life in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. METHODS 181 patients attending a tertiary center outpatient clinic were interviewed and completed the short form 36 (SF36) questionnaire. The SF36 was used to assess health-related QoL. Cross-sectional analyses by group (age, gender, clinical scores, systemic, and local interventions) as well sequel questionnaires were conducted. RESULTS Participants included were 79% (143/181) men [mean age at first SF36: 63.8 (± 12.3; 18.4-85.8) years]. Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stadium C was associated with significantly lower SF36 total scores, and elevated initial alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) concentrations were associated with lower SF36 functional and mental health sum scores throughout the course of the third questionnaire. Patients treated with sorafenib had within the sub-dimension scores a significantly lower result for role limitations due to physical health compared to patients without sorafenib treatment. Patients who underwent a transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) had within the sub-dimension scores a significantly higher result for control of pain compared to patients without TACE. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed significant survival benefits for patients who underwent any intervention at the first SF36 (mean survival in years 4.3 vs. 1.6; P < 0.01) as well as for patients who underwent hepatic resection (mean survival in years 6.3 vs. 2.7; P < 0.0001). CONCLUSION Advanced tumor stages marked by BCLC stadium C and elevated initial AFP concentrations were associated with lower SF36 total scores and functional sum scores, respectively. During the course of sorafenib treatment, the sub-dimensional score for role limitations due to physical health decreased significantly, whereas TACE performance was associated with a significant improvement of the control of body pain.

Abstract
We set out to investigate biological functions and potential molecular mechanisms of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HCC cell line Bel-7404 was cultured and transfected with antisense to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1-AS1). Viability and mobility were detected by MTT and wound healing assays. Additionally, enrichment analysis and functional networks of UCHL1-AS1 related genes in HCC were performed. Results showed that high level UCHL1-AS1 could effectively inhibit HCC cell migration. However, there was no significant correlation between overexpressed UCHL1-AS1 and HCC proliferation. Meanwhile, BMP4, CALM3, and HRAS were selected from 204 genes that related to UCHL1-AS1. All of these hub genes play critical roles in HCC occurrence and development. Thus, underlying molecular mechanisms among hub genes and UCHL1-AS1 in HCC might be valuable for prognosis and treatment.
