Abstract
BACKGROUND In previous efforts, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) improved for individuals at high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease after participation in community-based lifestyle interventions (LI) with a moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) movement goal. PURPOSE It is unknown whether HRQoL improves with LI when the primary movement goal is to reduce sedentary behavior. HRQoL changes were examined among adults with overweight and prediabetes and/or metabolic syndrome randomized to a 12-month Diabetes Prevention Program-based Group Lifestyle Balance (DPP-GLB) community LI work with goals of weight-loss and either increasing MVPA (DPP-GLB) or reducing sedentary time (GLB-SED). METHODS Study participants (N = 269) completed the Euroqol 5 dimension 3 long (EQ5D-3L index and EuroQol Visual Analog Scale (EQVAS)-visual analog scale) at baseline, and 6 and 12 months. Paired t-tests were used to evaluate pre-to-post-intervention changes by arm. RESULTS Mean EQVAS improvements for the GLB-SED arm at 6 and 12 months were +5.6 (SE = 1.3; P < .0001) and +4.6 (SE = 1.4; P = .0006), respectively. Similar mean EQVAS improvements were reported for the DPP-GLB arm; +5.9 (SE = 1.2; P < .0001) and +4.9 (SE = 1.2; P = .0001) at 6 and 12 months, respectively. Mean EQ5D index improvements were significant in the GLB-SED arm [6 months: +0.03 (SE = 0.01; P = .004); and 12 months: +0.04 (SE = 0.01; P = .006)], but not in the DPP-GLB arm. CONCLUSIONS Participation in community LI with a primary movement goal to reduce sedentary behavior improved HRQoL at least as well as traditional LI focused more on MVPA improvement, supporting an alternate intervention strategy for those who can't or won't engage in MVPA as the primary movement goal.

Abstract
Associations between daily time spent in physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviour (SB), and sleep (collectively referred to as "movement behaviour") and quality of life (QOL) are typically studied without considering they are compositional, co-dependant variables. Study objectives were to use compositional data analysis to: (1) examine the relationship between movement behaviour composition and QOL, (2) estimate the degree to which changing time spent in any movement behaviour within the movement behaviour composition is associated with QOL. 7918 older Canadian adults ≥65 years of age from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging were studied using a quasi-longitudinal study design. Daily time spent in PA and SB were derived from self-reported Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly responses. Nighttime sleep was self-reported separately. QOL was assessed through the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Movement behaviour composition was significantly associated with QOL. Relative time spent in SB was negatively associated with QOL (HR = 0.89 (95% CI: 0.86-0.93)). Relative time spent in sleep was positively associated with QOL (HR = 1.10 (95% CI: 1.05-1.16)). Time displacement estimates revealed that greatest change in QOL occurred when time spent in PA was decreased and replaced with SB (HR = 0.96 (95% CI: 0.92-0.99) for 45 min/day displacement). Using compositional data analysis is advantageous because it shows how reduction in SB and increase in PA and sleep can lead to improvements in QOL for older Canadian adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adequate sleep and physical activity promote longevity among older adults. Caffeine supplementation could be used to increase activity levels, but its effects have not been examined in real-world settings where potential trade-offs regarding sleep quality are also considered. This study sought to examine associations between caffeine intake and accelerometer-derived sleep and activity among older adults under free-living conditions. METHODS Cross-sectional data were gathered from older adults aged 65 + in the 2011-14 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). Sleep parameters were derived from accelerometer data using a data-driven machine learning approach. Caffeine consumption was categorized based on weight (in mg/kg: 0, > 0 to 1, > 1 to 2, > 2 to 3, > 3) and absolute consumption (in mg: 0, > 0 to 100, > 100 to 200, > 200 to 300, > 300). Multivariable survey weighted regression models were used to examine associations between caffeine with average total daytime activity, highly active minutes, sleep duration, and sleep efficiency. Covariate adjustments included demographics, body mass index, smoking, alcohol, sleep disorders, sleep parameters (for activity outcomes), and daytime activity (for sleep outcomes). RESULTS N = 1,629 NHANES participants were included. Caffeine consumption was highest in the morning. In adjusted models, older adults who consumed > 3 mg/kg were 16.5% more active during the day (95% CI: 9.0, 24.4) and were highly active for 42.8 additional minutes (95% CI: 20.3, 65.4) compared to non-consumers. Similar results were observed for absolute consumption (mg), and significant but lower magnitude effects were observed for lower levels of consumption. Caffeine showed no association with sleep efficiency, while low levels of consumption (≤ 1 mg/kg, ≤ 200 mg) were associated with longer sleep duration. CONCLUSIONS Under free-living dietary, sleep, and activity patterns, this study found older adults who consumed caffeine were more active than non-consumers. Overall consumption was not associated with sleep efficiency but was associated with longer sleep duration at ≤ 1 mg/kg and ≤ 200 mg. Future causal studies should determine the effectiveness of caffeine for promoting higher activity in older adult populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor mood states pose the most frequent mental health, creating a considerable burden to global public health. Sedentary behavior is an essential factor affecting mood states, however, previous measures to reduce sedentary time in Chinese young adults have focused only on increasing physical activity (PA). Sedentary, PA, and sleep make up a person's day from the standpoint of time use. It is not known whether reallocating sedentary time to different types of PA (e.g. daily PA and structured PA) or sleep during an epidemic has an effect on mood states. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the association between replacing sedentary time with different types of PA or sleep during the pandemic and the mood states of Chinese young adults and to further examine whether this association varies across sleep populations and units of replacement time. METHOD 3,579 young adults aged 18 to 25 years living in China and self-isolating at home during the COVID-19 outbreak were invited to complete an online questionnaire between February from 23 to 29, 2020. Subjects' PA, sedentary time, and mood states were assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Chinese version of the Profile of Mood States, respectively. Participants also reported sleep duration and some sociodemographic characteristics. Participants were divided into short sleepers (< 7 h/d), normal sleepers (7-9 h/d), and long sleepers (> 9 h/d) based upon their reported sleep duration. Relevant data were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis and isotemporal substitution model (ISM). RESULTS Sedentary time was negatively associated with mood states in Chinese young adults during the pandemic (r = 0.140) and correlated strongest among short sleepers (r = 0.203). Substitution of sedentary time with structured PA was associated with good mood states (β=-0.28, 95% CI: -0.49, -0.08). Additionally, substituting sedentary time with daily PA (e.g. occupational PA, household PA) was also associated with good mood states among normal sleepers (β=-0.24, 95% CI: -0.46, -0.02). The substitution of sedentary time with sleep could bring mood benefits (β=-0.35, 95% CI: -0.47, -0.23). This benefit was particularly prominent among short sleepers. Furthermore, for long sleepers, replacing sedentary time with sleep time also resulted in significant mood benefits (β=-0.41, 95% CI: -0.69, -0.12). The longer the duration of replacing sedentary behavior with different types of PA or sleep, the greater the mood benefits. CONCLUSIONS A reallocation of as little as 10 min/day of sedentary time to different types of PA or sleep is beneficial for the mood states of young adults. The longer the reallocation, the greater the benefit. Our results demonstrate a feasible and practical behavior alternative for improving mood states of Chinese young adults.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to examine the effects of semi-immersive virtual reality (VR)-based exercise on the quality of life of older adults. Methods It used a randomized controlled trial design. Older adults (mean age: 72.16 ± 4.9 years) were randomly assigned to experimental (n = 48) and control (n = 50) groups. The experimental group engaged in semi-immersive VR exercise for 75-90 min, twice a week, for 12 weeks and partook in no other intervention between the end of the exercise intervention and follow-up. Control group members did not participate in any similar program during the intervention or follow-up periods. Both groups completed three assessments: at baseline (pre-test), post-intervention (post-test), and 3 months later (follow-up). Quality of life was assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-Older Adults Module. Results Generalized estimating equation analyses indicated that the experimental group exhibited significant post-intervention improvements in quality of life in terms of sensory ability, autonomy, social participation/isolation, death and dying domain, and overall quality of life scores. However, none of these significant effects were maintained 3 months after exercise intervention cessation. Conclusions Semi-immersive VR exercise may be a feasible strategy toward enhancing the quality of life of older adults. However, the participants' quality of life was not maintained upon exercise cessation, indicating that older adults need to be encouraged to exercise regularly to maintain a good quality of life. VR may need to be combined with other modes of intervention in the future to facilitate long-term quality-of-life improvement in older adults.

Abstract
Background Sedentary behavior (SB) is a determinant of health in older adult people. Educational level is a primary driver of health disparities and is demonstrated to be a reliable measure of socioeconomic position. We aimed to examine the associations between educational level and self-reported along with device-measured SB in older adults living in Europe and the association of mentally active and passive SB domains with the educational level and gender in these associations. Methods The design is cross-sectional. One thousand three hundred and sixty participants aged 65 and over (75.3±6.3 years old, 61.8% women) participated. Inclusion criteria were scored with the Short Physical Performance Battery. Variables that describe the sample were assessed with an interview, and device-measured SB was assessed with an accelerometer. SB was assessed with the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire and an accelerometer. Multiple linear regression models were used to study the association between the level of education and SB. Results Participants self-reported an average of 7.82 (SD: 3.02) daily waking hours of SB during weekend days, and the average of device-measured SB was 11.39 (1.23) h. Total mentally active SB (weekdays and weekends) was associated with the education level (p < 0.000). Participants were more sedentary during the week than during weekends, regardless of level of education (p < 0.000). Education level was significantly associated with self-reported mean hours per day in 46SB (p = 0.000; R=0.026; 95%CI). Conclusion Low education level in older adults is associated with self-reported SB but not with objective SB measures.

Abstract
This randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of eight weeks of lactotripeptide (LTP) ingestion, physical activity (PA) intervention, and combined intervention on the fatigue status of middle-aged and older adults. A total of 78 middle-aged and older adults (63 ± 8 years of age) were randomly assigned to four groups: placebo, LTP, placebo with PA intervention (placebo + PA), and LTP with PA intervention (LTP + PA). All participants ingested the placebo or LTP tablets daily (three tablets/day). The placebo + PA and LTP + PA groups participated in a weekly supervised exercise class and were instructed to increase their moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA at home. The visual analog scale, Brief Fatigue Inventory, Profile of Mood States second edition (POMS2), and Beck Depression Inventory second edition (BDI-II) were administered before and after the intervention. No significant interactions or main effects were observed between LTP ingestion and PA intervention on any of the fatigue scales. The main-effect analyses revealed that the PA intervention improved the total mood disturbance score of the POMS2 (F = 5.22, P = 0.03) and BDI-II score (F = 4.81, P = 0.03). After the post hoc paired comparisons, the total mood disturbance and BDI-II scores improved more with the combined intervention than with the PA intervention alone (percentage difference between the effect of combined intervention and PA intervention alone was 3.7% for total mood disturbance score and 13.7% for BDI-II score). The present study suggests that eight weeks of LTP ingestion and PA intervention did not have a significant effect on fatigue status. However, the PA intervention improved mood status and depressive symptoms, and these effects were enhanced by LTP ingestion.

Abstract
In healthcare, preventing acute deterioration in activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life is critical since sustaining ADL can lead to a healthy and joyful life. Frailty is a risk factor for being unable to maintain ADL, and constant exercise is essential for older adults to prevent the progression of frailty. In rural contexts, older people's frailty is prevalent. We suggested a method for providing exercise programs in collaboration with family physicians in rural settings, respecting the characteristics of rural older people. The concrete implementation was established based on the ecological model and stakeholder analysis. Four plan, do, study, and act cycles were discussed through collaboration with various professionals. For the implementation and sustainability of rural exercise programs, gradual and logistic planning and progression are critical. Family physicians can be one of the drivers for the smooth implementation of rural exercise programs based on the social assessment and ecological model.

Abstract
This systematic review examined the associations between movement behaviours (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep duration) and quality of life (QOL) in adults ≥65 years of age. Four databases were searched in June 2021. Studies were eligible for inclusion if published within the last 20 years, peer-reviewed, examined apparently healthy older adults, and analysed ≥2 movement behaviours together. QOL was represented by the World Health Organization Quality of Life measure which conceptualizes QOL by distinct domains. Study results were categorized and presented by domain. Risk of bias was completed for all included studies using methods described in the Cochrane Handbook. Thirty-one studies with 307 292 participants were included that examined QOL outcomes across seven domains: superdomain (composite measures), perceived physical health, mental and psychological states, level of independence, social relationships, environment, and general health. Findings indicated that moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity was favourably associated with QOL. Time re-allocation studies that showed moving time into physical activity from sedentary behaviour were associated with favourable QOL changes. The evidence regarding sedentary behaviour and sleep duration was inconsistent. The quality of evidence was very low for all domains. In conclusion, there is consistent evidence that physical activity improves QOL in adults ≥65 years of age. Abstract
High-quality sleep is an important factor in sustaining health and improving well-being. Previous evidence has demonstrated the positive associations between increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behaviour (SB) with sleep quality. The substitutional relationships between SB, light-intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) need to be considered when examining how a particular behaviour may impact sleep quality. No studies, to our knowledge, have explored these substitutional relationships in middle-aged adulthood. Using an isotemporal substitution approach, this study examined the associations of replacing sedentary time with physical activity on sleep quality measures in a sample of middle-aged adults in Japan. Data from 683 adults aged 40-64 living in Japan were used. The average daily time spent in SB, LPA, and MVPA was objectively assessed by accelerometers. Two self-reported sleep quality measures were obtained using questionnaires, including rest by sleep and sleep quality. Multivariable linear regression models were used to assess the associations of SB, LPA, and MVPA with the sleep quality measures stratified by gender. We found that each 60 min unit of SB or LPA replaced with MVPA was favourably associated with rest by sleep among women (β = 0.16, 95% CI 0.07, 0.28, p < 0.001; β = 0.18, 95% CI 0.07, 0.32, p < 0.05, respectively). There were no significant associations between SB, LPA, and MVPA with sleep measures in men across all three models. These findings indicate that higher MVPA has a positive association with sleep quality in middle-aged women.

Abstract
The aging of the population is increasing the load on the healthcare system, and enhancing light physical activity among older adults can alleviate this problem. This study used medical examination data from 1773 older adults in Lanzhou city (China) and adopted the random forest model to investigate the effect of the built environment on the duration of light physical activity of older adults. The results showed that streetscape greenery has the most significant impact on older adults' light physical activity; greenery can be assessed in a hierarchy of areas; population density and land-use mix only have a positive effect on older adults' light physical activity up to a certain point but a negative effect beyond that point; and a greater distance to the park within 1 km is associated with a longer time spent on light physical activity. Therefore, we conclude that the built environment's impact is only positive within a specific range. Changes in the intervention of environmental variables can be observed visually by calculating the relative importance of the nonlinearity of built environment elements with partial dependency plots. These results provide a reasonable reference indicator for age-friendly community planning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Popular mediation method only considers a single activity as a mediator instead of all 24-hour physical activity, such as a four-way decomposition method. We investigated the mediation of 24-hour movement continuum between chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease [CVD] and diabetes) and depression using a novel compositional mediation model. METHODS 24-hour activity data measured by accelerometer were obtained from NHANES 2005-2006. Adjusted coefficient with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for PHQ-9 total score and adjusted odds ratio (OR) with 95% CI for depression were computed from compositional mediation models. RESULTS In total, 2,375 participants aged ≥ 20 were included in our analysis. Both diabetes and CVD were associated with increased sedentary behavior (SB) and sleep and reduced moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and light-intensity physical activity (LPA), leading to an increased likelihood of depression. Although not all component indirect effects were associated with PHQ-9 total score and depression, the total indirect effect was significantly associated with both PHQ-9 total score (coefficient (95% CI) for diabetes: 0.162 (0.081, 0.261); coefficient (95% CI) for CVD: 1.139 (1.061, 1.240)) and depression (OR (95% CI) for diabetes: 0.235 (0.126, 0.362); OR (95% CI) for CVD: 1.200 (1.088, 1.346)) using the compositional mediation model. CONCLUSION We developed a compositional mediation model for continuous and binary outcomes, which can handle entire compositional mediators as a unit. The mediation of 24-hour movement continuum mediated the association between diabetes, CVD, and depression. Our findings present potential interventions for reducing risk of depression among patients with CVD and diabetes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to examine the cross-sectional associations of sedentary time and physical activity time with bone density in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The isotemporal substitution (IS) modeling was used to estimate the beneficial effects of behavioral changes (e.g., replacing sedentary time with physical activity time) on bone density in these patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 92 patients with CKD (age: 65 ± 9 years; estimated glomerular filtration rate: 57 ± 22 mL/min/1.73 m2) were included in this cross-sectional study. The times spent in sedentary behavior (SB), light-intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) were assessed using a triaxial accelerometer. Through quantitative ultrasound measurements, the stiffness index, as a measure of bone density, was calculated using the speed of sound and broadband ultrasound attenuation. RESULTS In multivariate analyses, the stiffness index was beneficially associated with the MVPA time (β = 0.748), but was not significantly associated with the SB and LPA times. The IS models showed that replacing 10 min/day of SB with the equivalent LPA time was not significantly associated with the stiffness index; however, replacing 10 min/day of SB with the equivalent MVPA time was beneficially associated with the stiffness index (β = 0.804). CONCLUSION These results suggest that a small increase in MVPA time (e.g., 10 min/day) may attenuate the decline in bone density in patients with CKD. Our findings may provide insight for the development of novel strategies for improving bone health in patients with CKD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about whether insufficient moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and longer sedentary behavior (SB) are independently associated with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and CKD, whether they interact with known risk factors for CKD, and the effect of replacing sedentary time with an equivalent duration of physical activity on kidney function. METHODS We examined the cross-sectional association of MVPA and SB with eGFR and CKD in 66,603 Japanese cohort study in 14 areas from 2004 to 2013. MVPA and SB were estimated using a self-reported questionnaire, and CKD was defined as eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Multiple linear regression analyses, logistic regression analyses, and an isotemporal substitution model were applied. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders, higher MVPA and longer SB were independently associated with higher eGFR (Pfor trend MVPA<0.0001) and lower eGFR (Pfor trend SB<0.0001), and a lower odds ratio (OR) of CKD (adjusted OR of MVPA≥20 MET·h/day: 0.76 [95%CI: 0.68-0.85] compared to MVPA<5 MET·h/day) and a higher OR of CKD (adjusted OR of SB≥16 h/day: 1.81 [95%CI: 1.52-2.15] compared to SB<7 h/day), respectively. The negative association between MVPA and CKD was stronger in men, and significant interactions between sex and MVPA were detected. Replacing 1 hour of SB with 1 hour of physical activity was associated with about 3 to 4% lower OR of CKD. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that replacing SB with physical activity may benefit kidney function, especially in men, adding to the possible evidence on CKD prevention.

Effect of a Behavioural Intervention for Adoption and Maintenance of a Physically Active Lifestyle on Psychological Well-Being and Quality of Life in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: The IDES_2 Randomized Clinical Trial. Abstract
Background Psychological well-being and quality of life (QoL) are important outcomes of lifestyle interventions, as a positive impact may favour long-term maintenance of behaviour change. Objective This study investigated the effect of a behavioural intervention for adopting and maintaining an active lifestyle on psychological well-being and health-related QoL in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods Three hundred physically inactive and sedentary patients were randomized 1:1 to receive 1 month’s theoretical and practical counselling once a year (intervention group, INT) or standard care (control group, CON) for 3 years. Psychological well-being and QoL, assessed using the World Health Organization (WHO)-5 and the 36-Item Short Form (SF-36) questionnaire, respectively, were pre-specified secondary endpoints. The primary endpoint was sustained behaviour change, as assessed by accelerometer-based measurement of physical activity (PA) and sedentary time. Results WHO-5 and SF-36 physical and mental component summary (PCS and MCS) scores increased progressively in the INT group and decreased in the CON group, resulting in significant between-group differences (WHO-5: mean difference 7.35 (95% confidence interval (CI) 3.15–11.55), P = 0.0007; PCS 4.20 (95% CI 2.25–6.15), P < 0.0001; MCS 3.04 (95% CI 1.09–4.99), P = 0.0025). Percentage of participants with likely depression decreased in the INT group and increased in the CON group. PA volume changes were independently associated with WHO-5 changes, which were significantly higher in participants who accumulated > 150 min·wk−1 of moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA versus those who did not (13.06 (95% CI 7.51–18.61), P < 0.0001), whereas no relationship was detected for QoL. Conclusion A counselling intervention that was effective in promoting a sustained change in PA and sedentary behaviour significantly improved psychological well-being and QoL. Abstract
Background Although physical activity (PA) and sedentary time in cancer survivors (CSs) were associated with health-related quality of life (HRQOL), it was not clear whether their associations were similar among CSs with different number of comorbid chronic diseases (CCDs). This study aimed to investigate the associations between PA, sedentary time and HRQOL in CSs with different number of CCDs. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1546 CSs between June and September 2018 in Shanghai, China. Data were collected with a self-reported questionnaire including sociodemographic characteristics, CCDs, PA, sedentary time and HRQOL. International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core30 were respectively used to measure PA and HRQOL of CSs. Associations of PA and sedentary time with HRQOL among CSs with different number of CCDs were evaluated by using logistic regression, adjusted for confounding factors. Results About seventy-five percent CSs had at least one CCD. Approximately three fifths CSs had high PA level and < 4 h/day sedentary time. Moderate PA level and high PA level were shown to be associated with better HRQOL among all participants. In CSs with ≤ 2 CCDs, high PA level was significantly associated with higher scores of physical function and lower scores of nausea and vomiting, appetite loss. However, there was a positive association between high PA level and constipation score among CSs with ≥ 3 CCDs. CSs with shorter sedentary time had better HRQOL in those with CCDs. Conclusions High PA level and long sedentary time have significant association with worse HRQOL of CSs with ≥ 3 CCDs, while high PA level is positively associated with HRQOL in CSs with ≤ 2 CCDs. Our findings may support further studies of the causal association between PA, sedentary times and HRQOL to provide targeted proposal to improve the HRQOL of CSs according to their number of CCDs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Insufficient physical activity and excessive sedentary behavior can contribute to decreased skeletal muscle strength, which is strongly associated with increased mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the potential impact of replacing sedentary behavior with physical activity on skeletal muscle strength remains unclear in these individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of physical activity, sedentary behavior, and skeletal muscle strength in patients with CKD using an isotemporal substitution model to estimate the associations on replacing time from one behavior to another while keeping the total time and other behaviors fixed. METHODS A total of 108 patients with CKD (mean age = 65 [SD = 9] y; mean estimated glomerular filtration rate = 57 [SD = 22] mL/min/1.73 m2) participated in this cross-sectional analysis study. The time spent in sedentary behavior, light-intensity physical activity, and moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) was assessed using a triaxial accelerometer. Handgrip strength, isometric knee extension strength, and 30-second chair stand test were used to measure skeletal muscle strength. RESULTS In multivariate analyses (single-factor and partition models), the time spent in MVPA was beneficially associated with both isometric knee extension strength and 30-second chair stand test. Furthermore, the isotemporal substitution model found that replacing 10 min/d of sedentary behavior or light-intensity physical activity with equivalent MVPA time was beneficially associated with both isometric knee extension strength and 30-second chair stand test. CONCLUSION These cross-sectional findings indicate that MVPA time is beneficially associated with lower extremity muscle strength and that a slight increase in the MVPA time may contribute to maintaining skeletal muscle strength in patients with CKD. IMPACT Increasing the time spent in MVPA (10 min/d) may be a feasible strategy in patients with CKD who have a high prevalence of impaired physical function.

Abstract
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is being increasingly studied as an indicator of wellbeing. This study evaluated the HRQoL of nursing students and relationships between lifestyle behaviors including smoking, diet, alcohol intake and physical activity. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018 using the Short-Form 12V2 to measure the HRQoL of 475 students from both regional and metropolitan universities in Queensland, Australia. z-scores were aggregated into a Physical Composite Score (PCS) and a Mental Composite Score (MCS). Multivariate linear regression was used to explore the associations. Nursing students (94.5% female) had lower HRQoL scores relative to the general Australian population. Students enrolled at the regional university, with higher income; higher intakes of vitamin A, calcium, and iodine; and more physical activity had a higher Mental Composite Score, but those with health conditions and high intakes of meat, fat, carbohydrates, and sugar reported lower Physical Composite Score compared to their counterparts. Skipping breakfast, physical inactivity, and alcohol score were inversely associated with HRQoL. This study highlights the need for strategies to address the poor lifestyle and HRQoL in nursing students to support their physical and mental health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Development of effective strategies to reduce sedentary time among older adults necessitates understanding of its determinants but longitudinal studies of this utilising objective measures are scarce. METHODS Among 1536 older adults (≥60 years) in the EPIC-Norfolk study, sedentary time was assessed for seven days at two time-points using accelerometers. We assessed associations of change in total and prolonged bouts of sedentary time (≥ 30 minutes) with change in demographic and behavioural factors using multi-level regression. RESULTS Over follow-up (5.3±1.9 years), greater increases in total sedentary time were associated with older age, being male, higher rate of increase in BMI, lower rate of increase in gardening (0.5 min/day/yr greater sedentary time per hour/week/yr less gardening, 95% CI 0.1, 1.0), a lower rate of increase in walking (0.2 min/day/yr greater sedentary time per hour/week/yr less walking, 95% CI 0.1, 0.3) and a higher rate of increase in television viewing. Correlates of change in prolonged sedentary bouts were similar. CONCLUSION Individuals in specific sub-groups (older, male, higher BMI) and who differentially participate in certain behaviours (less gardening, less walking and more television viewing) but not others increase their sedentary time at a higher rate than others; utilising this information could inform successful intervention content and targeting.

Abstract
Objetivo. Explorar las diferencias entre los niveles de actividad física (AF) ‒ligero, moderado y vigoroso‒, en función a la Calidad de Vida Relacionada con la Salud (CvRS). Método. 269 participantes (M = 25.3, DE = 1.5) entre estudiantes, docentes y administrativos de una comunidad académica de Pereira, Colombia. La AF se evaluó con el International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) y la CvRS con el Cuestionario de Salud SF-36. Resultados. Quienes reportaron tener un nivel de AF moderado mostraron significativamente mejor vitalidad, salud mental y salud en general (p < 0.05). Mientras que aquellos con nivel de AF vigoroso promediaron más alto en salud general. Los niveles de AF moderado y vigoroso, en comparación con el ligero, presentaron mayor puntaje en la salud general y mental (p < 0.05). Conclusión. Este estudio aportó evidencia a favor de la hipótesis del vínculo entre AF y CvRS; además, reveló que aquellos con niveles de AF moderado y vigoroso presentan mejor CvRS en dimensiones de función social, vitalidad y salud general y mental. Futuros estudios deberían enfocarse en diferenciar los niveles de AF que mejor favorecen la CvRS, principalmente, en población escolar.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Associations between time spent on physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep and quality of life are usually studied without considering that their combined time is fixed. This study investigates the reallocation of time spent on physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep during the 24-hour day and their associations with quality of life. METHODS Data from the 2011-2016 Rotterdam Study were used to perform this cross-sectional analysis among 1,934 participants aged 51-94 years. Time spent in activity levels (sedentary, light-intensity physical activity, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and sleep) were objectively measured with a wrist-worn accelerometer combined with a sleep diary. Quality of life was measured using the EuroQoL 5D-3L questionnaire. The compositional isotemporal substitution method was used in 2018 to examine the association between the distribution of time spent in different activity behaviors and quality of life. RESULTS Reallocation of 30 minutes from sedentary behavior, light-intensity physical activity, or sleep to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was associated with a higher quality of life, whereas reallocation from moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to sedentary behavior, light-intensity physical activity, or sleep was associated with lower quality of life. To illustrate this, a reallocation of 30 minutes from sedentary behavior to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was associated with a 3% (95% CI=2, 4) higher quality of life score. By contrast, a reallocation of 30 minutes from moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to sedentary behavior was associated with a 4% (95% CI=2, 6) lower quality of life score. CONCLUSIONS Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity is important with regard to the quality of life of middle-aged and elderly individuals. The benefits of preventing less time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity were greater than the benefits of more time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. These results could shift the attention to interventions focused on preventing reductions in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity levels. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings and explore causality.

Abstract
Background Physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour (too much sitting) can contribute to renal dysfunction. However, the potential benefits of behavioural change (e.g. replacing sedentary behaviour with physical activity) on renal function are not well understood. We used isotemporal substitution to model potential impacts of behaviours on renal function by replacing time spent in one behaviour to another. Methods In 174 older Japanese adults (age, 50–83 years; females, 76%), the time spent in sedentary behaviour, light-intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) were assessed using an uniaxial accelerometer. Renal function was evaluated by the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) from serum creatinine and cystatin C levels. Results In univariate analyses, eGFR was significantly, albeit weakly, correlated with time spent in sedentary behaviour (rs = − 0.229), LPA (rs = 0.265), and MVPA (rs = 0.353). In the isotemporal substitution models, replacement of 30 min/day of sedentary behaviour with an equivalent LPA time was not significantly associated with eGFR (β = 2.26, p = 0.112); however, replacement with an equivalent time of MVPA was beneficially associated with eGFR (β = 5.49, p < 0.05). Conclusions These cross-sectional findings suggest that sedentary behaviour (detrimentally) and physical activity (beneficially) may affect renal function and that replacing sedentary behaviour with MVPA may benefit renal health in older adults.

Abstract
Aim: Accumulating evidence reveals that sedentary behavior is associated with mortality and cardiometabolic disease; however, there are potential age and sex differences in sedentary behavior and health outcomes that have not been adequately addressed. This study aimed to determine the association of sedentary behavior with cardiometabolic diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and its risk factors in a large Japanese population according to age and sex. Methods: Using data from the Japan Multi-Institutional Collaborative Cohort Study obtained from baseline surveys, data of 62,754 participants (27,930 males, 34,824 females) were analyzed. This study uses a cross-sectional design and self-administered questionnaires to evaluate sedentary time and anamnesis. For the logistic regression analysis, sedentary time < 5 h/day was used as the reference and then adjusted for age, research areas, leisure-time metabolic equivalents, and alcohol and smoking status. From the analysis of anthropometric and blood examinations, 35,973 participants (17,109 males, 18,864 females) were analyzed. Results: For hypertension and diabetes, sedentary time was associated with a significantly higher proportion of male participants. Both sexes were associated with a significantly higher proportion of participants with dyslipidemia. Participants who had longer sedentary time tended to have increased levels of blood pressure, triglycerides, and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and decreased levels of HDL-C, especially in the 60–69 years group. Conclusions: Independent of leisure-time physical activity, sedentary time was associated with cardiometabolic diseases in a large Japanese population classified by age and sex. Our findings indicate that regularly interrupting and replacing sedentary time may contribute to better physical health-related quality of life.

Association between Reallocation Behaviors and Subjective Health and Stress in South Korean Adults: An Isotemporal Substitution Model. Abstract
This study used an isotemporal substitution (IS) model to determine the potential reallocation effects of sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) on subjective health and stress in South Koreans with data from the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015. The analysis included 791 participants whose accelerometer-measured PA was available, divided into three age groups (young adults = 151; mid-age adults = 334; older adults = 306). We adopted SB, light PA (LPA), and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) to determine how time was allocated to each activity level, then examined the effects of reallocation on subjective health and stress across age groups. The analyses were performed in three steps: single-activity, partition, and IS model. An additional ANCOVA was conducted on statistically significant outcomes (i.e., subjective health of young and older adults). We found that among young adults, reallocating 30 min/week of SB to LPA and to MVPA was linked to high levels of subjective health. In older adults, reallocating 30 min/week of SB and LPA to MVPA was associated with high subjective health. However, this relationship was not observed in mid-age adults. None of the age groups showed a relationship between any activity reallocation and stress. Our findings provide the first insight on the development of interventions aimed at promoting active, healthier lifestyles on the basis of behavior reallocation in South Koreans.

Abstract
Despite the increasing prevalence and economic burden of dyslipidemia in South Korea, we have little data on the physical activity of patients. Thus, we aimed to investigate how quality of life among patients with dyslipidemia is influenced by a combination of the following variables: light physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), perceived body shape, and body mass index (BMI). We examined data from the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI 2015), collected in 2015 by the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The analysis included 534 individuals with dyslipidemia out of 7380 survey participants. Latent profile analysis identified three latent classes of individuals based on their physical profiles. Class 1 patients (active; n = 48) were more active, possessed more positive views of their body shape, were less sedentary, and had a lower BMI than Class 3 patients (inactive; n = 154). Class 2 patients (moderate; n = 331) had profiles in between the other two classes. Additionally, Class 1 and 2 patients had better quality of life than Class 3 patients. Our results suggest that promoting light PA and altering perceived body shape through counselling may improve quality of life in patients with dyslipidemia.
