Abstract
Spectral interference through the presence of uninformative variables, excess reagents, and complications in the refinement of the analyte signal is common in the quest to identify complex species in real samples. Therefore, an economical green, facile, and sensitive strategy has been developed for Cu2+ detection using the anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulphate- (SDS-) assisted dual-wavelength β-correction spectrophotometric strategy combined with the chromogenic reagent zincon (ZI). The low limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of Cu2+ using ordinary (single wavelength) spectrophotometry were 0.19 (3.02) and 0.63 (10.0) μgmL-1, and these values were improved to 0.08 (1.27) and 0.26 μgmL-1 (4.12 μM)) using β-correction (dual wavelength) spectrophotometry, respectively. The LOD and LOQ were improved from 0.08 (1.27) and 0.26 (4.12) μgmL-1 to 0.02 (0.32) and 0.08 μgmL-1 (1.27 μM) using SDS-assisted dual-β-correction spectrometry, respectively. Ringbom, s, and the corrected absorbance (Ac) versus Cu2+ concentration plots were linear over the concentration range 1.10-2.4 (17.4-38.1) and 0.50-2.40 μgmL-1 (7.94-38.1 μM), respectively. Sandell's sensitivity index of 3.0 × 10-3 μg/cm2 was achieved. The selectivity was further confirmed via monitoring the impact of common diverse ions and surfactants on the corrected absorbance. Total determination and Cu2+ speciation in water were favorably implemented and validated by ICP-OES at 95% (P=0.05). Satisfactory Cu2+ recoveries in tap (92.2-98.0%) and mineral (105-111.0%) water samples were achieved. The sensing system is simple, reliable, sensitive, and selective for Cu2+ detection.

Abstract
A novel model is presented for reliable estimation of the stability constants of the thiosemicarbazone ligands with different types of toxic heavy metal ions (log β11) in an aqueous solution, which has wide usage in environmental safety and ecotoxicology applications. The biggest reported data of log β11 for 120 metalthiosemicarbazone complexes are used for deriving and testing the novel model. In contrast to available methods where they need the two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) complex molecular descriptors as well as expert users and computer codes, the novel correlation uses four additive and two non-additive structural parameters of thiosemicarbazone ligands. The calculated results of the novel correlation are compared with the outputs of the genetic algorithm with multivariate linear regression method (GA-MLR) as one of the best existing methods, which requires seven complex descriptors. The estimated results for 78 of training as well as 42 of two different test sets were established by external and internal validations. The values of statistical parameters comprising average deviation, average absolute deviation, average absolute relative deviation, absolute maximum deviation, and the coefficient of determination for 73 data of training set of New model/GA-MLR are 0.04/ - 0.25, 1.06/1.31, 14.4/18.7, 3.18/7.92, and 0.830/0.652, respectively. Thus, the predicted results of the new model are worthy as compared to the complex GA-MLR model. Moreover, assessments of various statistical parameters confirm that the new model provides great reliability, goodness-of-fit, accuracy, and precision.

Abstract
In this article, a novel spectrophotometric reagent 1-(pyrimidine)-4, 4, 6-trimethyl-1,4-dihydropyrimidine-2-thiol [PTPT] has been synthesized for liquid-liquid extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper(II). The as-synthesized ligand has been selectively forms stable complex with copper(II) in basic medium (pH 9.0), in presence of mild pyridine the extraction and color stability has found to be synergistically enhanced. The equilibrium time is 10 min for effective extraction of copper(II) from organic phase and absorbance of colored organic complex in carbon tetrachloride is measured spectrophotometrically at λmax 615 nm against reagent blank. The ternary complex of Cu(II)-PTPT-Py having molar ratio 1:2:2 (M:L:Py) showed green colored complex. The main factors influencing the achievement of synergistic extraction; i.e. pH, ligand concentration, type and volume of the dispersive organic solvents, equilibrium time, synergent concentration and foreign ions were investigated. The Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range 1-20 μg mL-1 of copper(II) and optimum concentration range is evaluated by Ringbom's plot and it is found that 2.5-25 μg mL-1. In presence of pyridine, molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity of copper(II)-PTPT complex is 2.80 × 103 L mol-1 cm-1 and 0.226 μg cm-2, respectively and in absence of pyridine, molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity of copper(II)-PTPT complex is 1.35 × 103 L mol-1 cm-1 and 0.469 μg cm-2, respectively. The stoichiometry of the copper(II)-PTPT-pyridine complex was calculated by slope ratio method, mole ratio method and Job's method of continuous variation and it has been found as 1:2:2. No significant effects of potentially interfering species i.e. cations and anions were observed. The optimized method was applied for the determination of copper(II) in binary, synthetic mixtures and successfully applied for determination of copper(II) from e-waste samples. The standard deviation (R.S.D.) is 0.11% for n = 5 repetition. The reliability of the developed method is confirmed by comparison of experimental results with atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

Abstract
A simple, selective, and inexpensive spectrophotometric method is described in the present study for estimation of trace concentrations of Cu2+ in water based on its reaction with chromogenic reagent namely 4-amino-3-mercapto-6-[2-(2-thienyl)vinyl]-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one (AMT). The reaction between copper(II) ions and AMT reagent gives [Cu(L)(NO3)(H2O)2]•H2O complex, where L represents AMT molecule with NH group. The formed complex exhibits a sharp, and well-defined peak at λmax = 434 nm with a molar absorptivity (ε) of 1.90 × 104 L mol−1 cm−1, and Sandell’s factor of 0.003 μg mL−2. Absorbance of the [Cu(L)(NO3)(H2O)2]•H2O follows Beer’s law over a 0.7–25 μg mL−1 range with a detection limit of 0.011 μg mL−1. Validation of the submitted method was established by estimating Cu2+ in certified reference materials and actual sea and tap water samples. The results are compared with data obtained from copper concentration measurements using ICP-OES. The chemical structure of the Cu(II)-AMT complex was fully characterized by FT-IR, SEM, EDX, TGA, and ESR techniques.
