Abstract
Amines such as 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline undergo redox-neutral annulations with 2-alkylquinoline-3-carbaldehydes as well as the corresponding 4-alkyl isomers and pyridine analogues. These processes involve dual C-H bond functionalization. Acetic acid is used as a cosolvent and acts as the sole promoter of these transformations.

Abstract
This is the first report of an innovative, one-pot, catalyst-free, pseudo-five-component synthesis of 1,2-dihydro[1,6]naphthyridines from methyl ketones, amines, and malononitrile in ecofriendly solvent water. The protocol avoids the use of expensive catalysts, toxic organic solvents and anhydrous condition. The approach to naphthyridines presented herein offers for the first time an unprecedented coupling which leads to the construction of both the nitrogen containing rings during the synthesis without starting from any nitrogen-containing heterocycle moiety.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] Microwave-promoted, cobalt-catalyzed intramolecular [2 + 2 + 2] cyclizations of dialkynylnitriles successfully gave 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,6-naphthyridines. The efficient synthesis of these relatively simple, yet rarely addressed heterocycles enabled the preparation of a collection of these compounds.
