Abstract
This study aims to investigate the alteration of salivary biomarker profiling in the development of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) and to explore the influence of saliva in the diagnosis of OSMF. A systematic search of published articles using the PRISMA guidelines was conducted to identify relevant studies on OSMF and saliva. All eligible studies, including case-control, cross-sectional studies, cohort, and pilot studies, contained the evaluation of salivary biomarker profiling in patients with OSMF. Salivary biomarker data from 28 selected articles were categorized into nine groups, and their mean values were determined. A three-step meta-analysis was performed by grouping salivary biomarker profiling into more heterogeneous categories based on OSMF classification, considering functional, histological, and clinical grading. The salivary biomarker profiling analysis revealed significant alterations in all markers, indicating their efficacy in OSMF diagnosis. Subgroup analyses highlighted significant associations in oxidative stress and protein with increased mean values, particularly emphasizing lipid peroxidase (LPO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Conversely, decreased mean values were observed in glutathione, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and vitamins. Notably, OSMF grading analysis demonstrated a significant difference in weighted effect sizes for histological grading, particularly in stage IV. The study underscores the alteration of specific salivary biomarkers, particularly those associated with LPO, MDA, LDH, glutathione, GPx, SOD, and vitamins, in diagnosing and grading OSMF.

Abstract
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common cancer in the oral cavity accounting for 90 % of oral cancer with a global incidence of 350.000 new cases per year. Curative resection along with adjuvant radiation therapy or a combination of radiotherapy with chemotherapy remain as gold standard in treating OSCC. Still, local recurrence, lymph nodal recurrence, and complications of radiation remain the main cause of tumor-related mortality. Reactive oxygen species are not only correlated to the etiology of OSCC due to oxidative DNA damage, lipid peroxidation or effecting signal transduction cascades that effect cell proliferation and tumorigenesis, but are also of great interest in the therapy of OSCC patients. As induced oxidative stress can be used therapeutically for the induction of tumor cell death, redox targets might be a therapeutic addition to the conventional treatment options. In this review, we discuss markers of impaired redox homeostasis as well as potential redox-related treatment targets in OSCC.

Abstract
Low force stereolithography is exploited for the first time for one-step facile fabrication of chemiluminescence (CL) flow-through cells that bear unrivalled features as compared to those available through milling or blowing procedures or alternative 3D printing technologies. A variety of bespoke cross-section geometries with polyhedral features (namely, triangular, square, and five-side polygon) as well as semicircular cross-section are herein critically evaluated in terms of analytical performance against the standardcircular cross-section in a flat spirally-shape format. The idea behind is to maximize capture of elicited light by the new designs while leveraging 3D printing further for fabrication of (i) customized gaskets that enable reliable attaching of the active mixing zone of the CL cell to the detection window, (ii) in-line 3D-printed serpentine reactors, and (iii) flow confluences with tailorable shapes for enhancing mixing of samples with CL reagents. Up to twenty transparent functional cells were simultaneously fabricated without inner supports following post-curing and surface treatment protocols lasting less than 5 h. In fact, previous attempts to print spirally-shaped cells in one-step by resorting to less cost effective photopolymer inkjet printing technologies were unsuccessful because of the requirement of lengthy procedures (>15 days) for quantitative removal of the support material. By exploiting the phthalazinedione-hydrogen peroxide chemistry as a model reaction, the five-side irregular pentagon cell exhibited superior analytical figures of merit in terms of LOD, dynamic range and intermediate precision as compared to alternative designs. Computational fluid dynamic simulations for mapping velocities at the entry region of the spiral cell corroborated the fact that the 5-side polygon cross-section flow-cell with Y-type confluence permitted the most efficient mixing of reagents and sample while enabling larger flow velocities near the inlet that contribute to a more efficient capture of the photons from the flash-type reaction. The applicability of the 3D-printed 5-side polygon CL cell for automatic determination of hydrogen peroxide using a computerized hybrid flow system was demonstrated for the analysis of high matrix samples, viz., seawater and saliva, with relative recoveries ranging from 83 to 103%.

Abstract
Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD). It is described as a scarring disease of the oral mucosa associated with excess oxidants and insufficient antioxidants. While it is becoming increasingly accepted that oxidative stress results in excessive accumulation of collagen and progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues, there is limited data regarding the moderation of oxidative stress to initiate or prevent OSMF. To assess the scope for mechanism-based approaches to prevent or reverse OSMF, we systematically evaluated the existing literature and investigated the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis and chemoprevention of OSMF. A search for relevant articles on PubMed and Scopus was undertaken using pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 78 articles were selected in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines. The articles eligible for assessment investigated both OSMF and/or oxidative stress biomarkers or specific antioxidants. Both in vitro and human studies consistently demonstrated variations in oxidative stress biomarker levels in OSMF and revealed an increase in oxidative stress, paralleling the development of the disease. Furthermore, the use of antioxidant supplements was overall associated with an improvement in clinical outcomes. Having identified the significance of oxidative stress in OSMF and the therapeutic potential of antioxidant supplements, this scoping review highlights the need for further well-designed studies in the development of mechanism-based interventions for managing OSMF.

Abstract
Context: Early detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) transforming into malignancy can drastically improve the treatment outcomes and prognosis. Carcinoma development is an intricate complex mechanism and the multifactorial causation makes it more difficult to find specific prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers. Thus, the development of newer diagnostic and predictive approaches that are less invasive, economical and amenable to repeated sampling is imperative. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) serves a useful marker for prognosis and monitoring of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) including OSMF as well as OSCC. Secreted by hepatocyte as an acute inflammatory marker, various studies have shown association between serum CRP and presence of OPMDs, as well as with presence and prognosis of OSCC. Aims: The aim of this study was to measure and compare serum CRP levels in patients with OSMF and OSCC as compared to healthy individuals and to establish baseline data for serum CRP levels in patients with OSMF and OSCC. Settings and Design: Cross-sectional observational prospective study. Materials and Methodology: The study includes 150 individuals, with 50 healthy, 50 OSMF and 50 OSCC individuals. Spinreact CRP-turbilatex Kit (SPINREACT) and Prietest-EXP semi-automatic biochemical analyzer were used for quantitative determination of serum CRP. Statistical Analysis Used: Data were analyzed by SPSS 16© (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software. Results: The mean value of serum CRP in Group I was 2.20 mg/L with standard deviation of 1.74; in Group II, it was 5.40 mg/L with standard deviation of 4.79 mg/L and in Group III, it was 12.17 mg/L with standard deviation of 11.38. Conclusions: Serum CRP levels in patients with OSMF were raised, but not statistically significant as compared to the control group. Values of serum CRP were significantly higher in patients with OSCC as compared to the control group, and it was statistically significant; these values also showed positive association with primary tumor size.

Abstract
The detection of salivary biomarkers has a potential application in early diagnosis and monitoring of periodontal inflammation. However, searching sensitive salivary biomarkers for periodontitis is still ongoing. Oxidative stress is supposed to play an important role in periodontitis progression and tissue destruction. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and total oxidant status (TOS) in saliva of periodontitis patients compared to healthy controls and their relationship with periodontopathic bacteria and periodontal disease severity. Unstimulated saliva was collected from 45 patients with generalized severe periodontitis and 37 healthy individuals and the TAC/TOS were measured. In addition, salivary levels of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, and Fusobacterium nucleatum in saliva were measured. Salivary TAC was lower in periodontitis patients compared to healthy controls. Moreover, a significant negative correlation of salivary TAC with clinical attachment loss was observed in periodontitis patients. No significant difference in the salivary TOS was observed between periodontitis patients and healthy controls. Bacterial load was enhanced in periodontitis patients and exhibited correlation with periodontal disease severity but not with salivary TAC/TOS. Our data suggest that changes in antioxidant capacity in periodontitis patients are not associated with increased bacterial load and are probably due to a dysregulated immune response.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE AND OBJECTIVE Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are oxygen-derived molecules that are unstable and highly reactive. They are important signaling mediators of biological processes. In contrast, excessive ROS generation, defective oxidant scavenging or both have been implicated in the pathogenesis of several conditions. This biological paradox of ROS function contributes to the integrity of cells and tissues. So, the aim of this review was examined for published literature related to 'reactive oxygen species and dentistry and muscle'. MATERIALS AND METHODS A PubMed search was performed by using the following key words: 'reactive oxygen species and dentistry and muscle'. RESULTS Involvement of ROS in pathologic conditions can be highlighted in oral diseases like periodontitis, orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders and oral cancer. Also, several studies have correlated the increase in ROS production with the initiation of the muscle fatigue process and the process of muscle injury. However, studies evaluating the relation of ROS and orofacial muscles, which can prove very important to understand the fatigue muscle in this region during oral movements, have not yet been conducted. CONCLUSIONS It is concluded that the data on skeletal muscles, especially those of mastication, are not commonly published in this data source; therefore, further studies in this field are strongly recommended.
