Abstract
Background Emergency endoscopic intestinal stenting has been applied with increasing frequency in colorectal cancer patients with acute intestinal obstruction. However, its clinical effectiveness as compared to emergency surgery remains controversial. Material/Methods The clinical data of 96 patients with acute intestinal obstruction caused by colorectal cancer from April 2012 to April 2018 were retrospectively collected. Statistical technique success rate, clinical success rate, operative time, average indwelling time of stent, complications, transition time to second-stage surgery, postoperative hospital stay, sputum rate, and postoperative infection rate were studied. Results Endoscopic colonoscopy was successfully performed in 94 patients. The success rate of stent placement was 97.9%, and the average operative time was 35 minutes (range, 25–85 minutes). Forty-two patients underwent stage I colectomy after relief of the obstruction. The average stent retention time was 7 days (range, 5–15 days). Two patients suffered from anastomotic infection. Their intestinal preparation time, hospital stay, fistula rate, and infection rate were lower than those of patients undergoing emergency operation for colon cancer intestinal obstruction. A total of 52 patients with colon cancer underwent palliative stent placement. Three patients had complications, including 1 case of stent displacement in the palliative care group and 2 cases with perforation in the bridge surgery group. Conclusions Emergency endoscopic placement of an intestinal stent is safe and effective in the treatment of patients with acute intestinal obstruction caused by colorectal cancer. It is also a safe and simple procedure for patients receiving advanced palliative treatment, which greatly improves their quality of life and is easy for patients’ families to accept.

Abstract
Background Tuberculous infection of the lumbar spine may be associated with psoas abscess. The aim of this clinical study was to compare the outcome of posterior lumbar debridement and spinal fusion, combined with either a one-stage anteroposterior (AP) or posterior (P) approach to percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) for the treatment of lumbar tuberculosis with psoas abscess. Material/Methods From January 2008 to June 2012, 74 patients were diagnosed at our hospital with lumbar tuberculosis with unilateral or bilateral psoas abscess. Forty-three patients underwent P-PCD (group A), and 31 patients underwent AP-PCD (group B). Operative duration, blood loss, the length of hospital stay, spinal correction, clinical cure rate, and other clinical outcomes in the two groups were compared. Results Comparison of the outcome for the P-PCD and AP-PCD patients showed that there was no significant difference in outcome for spinal bone fusion, correction of spinal deformity, or cure rate from tuberculosis infection (P>0.05). Blood loss, operative time, and the length of hospital stay for patients in group A, the P-PCD group, were significantly less than for group B, the AP-PCD group (P<0.05). Also, group B, the AP-PCD group, had an increased incidence of complications than group A, the P-PCD group, leading to increased hospital stay (OR 3.04, CI 0.52–17.75). Conclusions For the treatment of tuberculous psoas abscess using PCD, the posterior approach may achieve the same clinical efficacy as the anteroposterior approach, but is associated with reduced length of hospital stay, and lower risk of complications.

Abstract
In this study, we explored associations between paraoxonase 1 (PON1) L55M and Q192R gene polymorphisms and the risk of breast cancer in 365 female breast cancer patients and 378 healthy controls from the Guangxi region of southern China. The LM heterozygous and MM homozygous genotypes, as well as M carrier status and M alleles, were associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. In addition, the M allele was associated with postmenopausal status and increased nodal involvement. In contrast, none of the Q192R genotypes or alleles were associated with a change in breast cancer risk, or with any of the clinicopathological parameters. These results indicate that PON1 L55M genetic polymorphisms may be associated with the risk of breast cancer and could potentially serve as useful genetic markers for tumor prognosis in some populations of Chinese women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pancreatic cancer is considered a chemoresistant neoplasm with extremely dismal prognosis and gemcitabine treatment is associated with many side effects and poor overall survival. The study aimed at developing a new nanobioconjugate, which specifically delivered gemcitabine and anti-EGFR antibody into pancreatic cancer cells. MATERIAL AND METHODS The novel nanodrug is based on chitosan platform, which is non-toxic, biocompatibility and biodegradable. We measured the effects of proliferation and metastasis on SW1990 by CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, wound healing assay and Transwell assay. The expression of related proteins were evaluated by Western blot. RESULTS We synthesized Abc-GC-gemcitabine nanoparticles successfully with the encapsulation rate of nanobioconjugates was 91.63% and the drug loadings was 9.97%. Both GC-gemcitabine microspheres solution (GC group) and Abc-GC-gemcitabine microspheres solution (Abc group) inhibited cells proliferation, colony formation, migration and invasion in SW1990 cells dramatically. Moreover, Abc-GC-gemcitabine microspheres expressed more significant inhibited action than GC-gemcitabine microspheres efficiently CONCLUSIONS Our data suggested that Abc-GC-gemcitabine nanoparticles could have promising potential in treating metastasized and chemoresistant pancreatic cancer by enhancing the drug efficacy and minimizing off target effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To develop new strategies for identifying atopic dermatitis patients, a better understanding of the signs for chronic inflammatory status is needed. This study was designed to investigate whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are related to the severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) assessed by the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective study involving 80 AD patients and 45 healthy control subjects was performed. NLR, PLR, and the number of peripheral blood eosinophils were compared between AD patients and healthy controls, and correlations between these indexes and clinical characteristics were analyzed. RESULTS NLR, PLR, and eosinophils in AD patients were all significantly higher than in healthy individuals. Among AD patients, NLR (p<0.001) and PLR (p<0.001), as contrasted with eosinophils (p=0.146), were correlated positively with SCORAD index. Additionally, an NLR level of 1.75 was determined as the predictive cut-off value of severe AD (SCORAD ≥51) (sensitivity 94.7%, specificity 58.6%, the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUROC) 0.778, p=0.001). For eosinophils, the sensitivity and specificity were 78.9% and 62.1%, respectively, and the AUROC was only 0.685 (p=0.032) in predicting high SCORAD. CONCLUSIONS NLR and PLR reflect inflammatory response and disease severity in AD patients.

Abstract
Background Serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA and hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) liver function in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are significantly associated. A comparison of clinical significance of fecal HBV DNA and serum HBV DNA has not yet been reported. Material/Methods Stool and serum samples were collected from 66 patients with CHB. Fecal HBV DNA, serum HBV DNA, and intestinal microbiota DNA were detected by real-time quantitative fluorescence polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Liver function and HBeAg were analyzed. Results The stool and serum HBV DNA were positively correlated (r=0.57, P=0.001). Fecal HBV DNA was higher in the HBeAg-positive group than in the HBeAg-negative group (P=0.02). Fecal HBV DNA was negatively correlated with alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (r=−0.41, P=0.001) and TBIL (r=−0.29, P=0.02), and was positively correlated with Enterococcus (r=0.38, P=0.002). Serum HBV DNA was negatively correlated with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (r=−0.30, P=0.02), aminotransferase (AST) (r=−0.26, P=0.049), and Lactobacillus (r=−0.31, P=0.01). Conclusions These observations suggest that fecal HBV DNA and serum HBV DNA in patients with CHB have different effects. Fecal HBV DNA might be associated with changes in Enterococcus concentrations, but serum HBV DNA is not.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although bezoar dissolution by Coca-Cola® has been described in case reports and case series, to the best of our knowledge, the usefulness of other cola products such as Pepsi-Cola® has never been reported in the English literature. CASE REPORT An 86-year-old Taiwanese man was diagnosed with a gastric bezoar. Endoscopic fragmentation with a polypectomy snare was attempted twice but failed to remove the bezoar. Subsequently, 500 mL of Pepsi NEX Zero® was administered daily for 4 days via nasogastric tube. The bezoar was softened and successfully fragmented by the polypectomy snare and needle-knife devices on the third attempt. CONCLUSIONS This report presents the first case of a gastric bezoar successfully treated by endoscopic fragmentation in combination with Pepsi-Cola® administration, suggesting the possible utility of cola beverages in bezoar treatment, regardless of product brands.

Abstract
Introduction Incisional hernias are abnormal peritoneal outward pouch-like protrusions that develop due to defects that arise as a result of the disruption of the fascia's continuity after abdominal surgery. Presentation of case A 77-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department of our hospital with complaints of abdominal swelling, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The patient was recommended for surgery. It was decided that the primary fascia closure and onlay patch was the most appropriate approach. Discussion When the defect in the abdominal wall grows, the functionality of the related abdominal wall is disrupted thereby eliminating the dynamic structure of the abdominal wall. Incisional hernias lead to a significant number of job losses and morbidity and negatively affect quality of life. Moreover, the formations in the hernia pouch might lead to higher risk of strangulation and dysfunction. Conclusion Subcutaneous herniation of the left lobe of the liver passing through the abdominal wall is a very rare condition. Incisional hernias are common type of hernia. Left liver lobe may be incarcerated into the hernia sac. Surgeon should be careful not to damage it.
