Large retroperitoneal atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor, an extremely rare neoplasm: A case report

Tailored Physical Therapy in a Case of Tenotomy Post Hip Flexion Deformity With Structural Scoliosis: A Case Report

Retroperitoneal tumours, mainly classified as malignant and benign, have a rare incidence. It includes major parts of the peritoneum, and surgical excision remains the optimal pathway to remove the tumour. As with any surgery, tumour resection comes with its own complications. These complications would manifest differently depending on patient adaptation or compensation for these drawbacks. Physiotherapy and its positive effects as a need after any surgical procedure become a boon when implemented as and when required. The present study describes the case of a 32-year-old woman who has complained of pain in her right hip for one year, along with forward-bending walking and difficulty sitting. The patient had a history of retroperitoneal tumour excision, after which, to compensate for the pain, she started walking by bending forward, which developed into a hip flexion deformity. The patient was managed by tenotomy and was referred to a physiotherapy outpatient (OPD) for further management. Our aim was to improve overall mobility through gait training and prevent relapses of the contracture.

An extremely rare neoplasm 'atypical spindle cell pleomorphic lipomatous tumor': a case report

Spindle cell lipoma is a rare histological variant of lipoma accounting for 1.5% of adipocytes tumors. It is composed of an admixture of mature adipocytes and fibroblast-like spindle cells in a myxoid stroma. Retroperitoneal atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor are extremely rare only a single report in the literature reported. Herein we describe a case of a giant lipomatous tumor that was causing partial bowel obstruction. Successful excision with en block resection of the tumor, distal ureter and posterior wall of the bladder was achieved by teamwork between gastrointestinal surgeons and Urologist. The bladder defect was repaired, and left ureteric reimplantation was done. The patient made a good recovery with excellent progress. He has resumed his normal activities as a farmer.

Case report: Atypical spindle cell/pleomorphic lipomatous tumor masquerading as a myxoid liposarcoma or intramuscular myxoma

Atypical spindle cell/pleomorphic lipomatous tumors (ASPLTs) were recently categorized as benign lipomatous tumors. However, accurate and complete preoperative diagnosis of ASPLTs may be difficult. Furthermore, diagnosis based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings is uncertain because of the varying ratios of the fat component within the tumor. Here, we report a case of ASPLT masquerading as a myxoid tumor. Although MRI findings were consistent with a myxoid liposarcoma, needle biopsy findings suggested a myxoma, and we performed marginal resection. Histopathological findings revealed infiltrating spindle cells with atypia. In addition, immunohistochemistry (IHC) showed positive staining for CD34 and heterogeneous retinoblastoma deficiency, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) showed no amplification of mouse double minute 2 homolog and no rearrangement of FUS or EWSR1. When MRI and histopathological findings suggest a myxoid tumor, IHC and FISH should be considered and performed for a precise and accurate diagnosis.
