Diode-pumped 1.34-microm Nd(3+):YAlO(3) laser

High-Power Continuous-Wave Diode-Pumped Nd:YAlO(3) Laser that Emits on Low-Gain 1378- and 1385-nm Transitions

Efficient operation of a diode-pumped Nd:YAlO(3) laser on low-gain 1378- and 1385-nm transitions is reported for the first time, to our knowledge. A three-mirror folded cavity with a prism yielded a cw laser output power of 800 mW for an absorbed pump power of 11 W. The laser beam was TEM(00). We managed to eliminate the instabilities in the output power by purging the cavity of water vapor with nitrogen.

Single-mode operation of a standing wave miniature Nd laser pumped by laser diodes

Single-longitudinal-mode operation is reported for miniature Nd:YAG and Nd:BEL standing wave resonators. The best performance obtained was 18 mW with laser diode pumping and 31 mW with dye laser pumping. The miniature lasers were also operated multimode at power levels as high as 470 mW. A completely integrated, miniature Nd:BEL laser was constructed and is described. Results for several different resonator configurations are compared and it is concluded that the threshold pump power for multimode oscillation in each is consistent with an earlier observation that energy diffusion increases with absorbed pump power density. This allows single frequency oscillation to be obtained at high excitation rates with axially extended cavities.

Temperature tunable 1341-nm monolithic Nd(3+):YAIO(3) laser

A short cavity monolithicN d(3+):YA10(3) laser pumped by a forty-stripe diode array has produced 7 mW of TEM(00)power in only three longitudinal modes. The central mode is smoothly temperature tunable from 1341.0 to 1341.6 nm at the rate of 15.0 +/- 0.5 pm/ degrees C.

Laser-diode side-pumped Nd:YAlO(3) laser at 1.08 and 1.34 microm

We report efficient pulsed operation of a b-axis Nd:YAIO(3) laser rod at 1.08 and 1.34 microm side-pumped by laser-diode arrays. Optical slope efficiencies of 27% and 20% were obtained at these wavelengths. Polarized absorption spectra were taken for Nd:YAlO(3) along the three principal axes in the region of the pump bands from 780 to 830 nm.
