Mid-IR Optical Property of Dy:CaF2-SrF2 Crystal Fabricated by Multicrucible Temperature Gradient Technology. CRYSTALS 2021. Abstract
Dy3+-doped CaF2-SrF2 crystals with various Dy3+ dopant concentrations were synthesized by multicrucible temperature gradient technology (MC-TGT). Dy:CaF2-SrF2 crystals were fluorite structured and crystallized in cubic Fm3¯m space group, as characterized by X-ray diffraction. The crystallographic site concentration was calculated from the measured density by Archimedes’ hydrostatic weighing principle. The optical transmission reached over 90% with a sample thickness of 1.0 mm. The Sellmeier dispersion formula was obtained following the measured refractive index in a mid-IR range of 1.7–11 μm. Absorption coefficients of 6.06 cm−1 and 12.71 cm−1 were obtained at 804 nm and 1094 nm in 15% Dy:CaF2-SrF2 crystal. The fluorescence spectra of 15 at.% Dy:CaF2-SrF2 showed the strongest wavelength peak at 2919 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 267 nm under an excitation wavelength of 808 nm. The fluorescence lifetimes were illustrated for different Dy3+ dopant levels of 5%, 10% and 15%. The results indicate that the Dy:CaF2-SrF2 crystal is a promising candidate for compact mid-IR lasers.

Abstract
Eu-doped ternary sulfides of general formula ALnS₂ (A = Na, K, Rb; Ln = La, Gd, Lu, Y) are presented as a novel interesting material family which may find usage as X-ray phosphors or solid state white light emitting diode (LED) lighting. Samples were synthesized in the form of transparent crystalline hexagonal platelets by chemical reaction under the flow of hydrogen sulfide. Their physical properties were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and X-ray excited fluorescence. Corresponding characteristics, including absorption, radioluminescence, photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, and decay kinetics curves, were measured and evaluated in a broad temperature range (8-800 K). Calculations including quantum local crystal field potential and spin-Hamiltonian for a paramagnetic particle in D3d local symmetry and phenomenological model dealing with excited state dynamics were performed to explain the experimentally observed features. Based on the results, an energy diagram of lanthanide energy levels in KLuS₂ is proposed. Color model xy-coordinates are used to compare effects of dopants on the resulting spectrum. The application potential of the mentioned compounds in the field of white LED solid state lighting or X-ray phosphors is thoroughly discussed.

Abstract
In this Letter, we demonstrate the pulsed and CW operation of the Dy:PbGa(2)S(4) laser directly pumped by the 1.7 μm laser diode. In the pulsed regime (pulse duration 5 ms; repetition rate 20 Hz), the maximum mean output power of 9.5 mW was obtained with the slope efficiency of 9.3% with respect to the absorbed pump power. The generated wavelength was 4.32 μm, and the laser beam cross section was approximately Gaussian on both axes. Stable CW laser generation was also successfully obtained with the maximum output power of 67 mW and the slope efficiency of 8%. Depopulation of the lower laser level by 1.7 μm pump radiation absorption followed by 1.3 μm upconversion fluorescence was demonstrated. These results show the possibility of construction of the compact diode-pumped solid-state pulsed or CW laser generating at 4.3 μm in the power level of tens mW operating at room temperature.

Abstract
By physical and chemical dehydration techniques, a group of Er3+-doped water-free fluorotellurite glasses with a composition of 60TeO2-30ZnF2-10NaF(TZNF60,mol%)+x Er2O3(wt%,x=0~1.5) were fabricated. Under 978 nm excitation, the 4I(11/2)→4I(13/2) emission of Er3+ ions in TZNF60-glass was investigated: τ(f) is of 1.07~1.93 ms and emission bandwidth is about 163 nm at 2.71 µm, which benefits from the absence of OH groups and the decreased phonon energy with the addition of fluorides. In contrast, 1.25Er-TZNF60 glass is proposed to be a promising material for mid-infrared fiber lasers at around 2.7 µm.

Abstract
The absorption and the kinetics of the emission in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) were investigated in AgCl(x)Br(1-x) crystals doped with Dy(3+) ions. Strong emission bands were detected at 3, 4.4, and 5.5 μm and attributed to the (6)H(13/2)→(6)H(15/2), (6)H(11/2)→(6)H(13/2), and (6)F(11/2)+(6)H(9/2)→(6)H(11/2) transitions. Various optical parameters were calculated for the Dy(3+) doped crystals, using the Judd-Ofelt approximation and the rate equations. The measured results and the calculated parameters indicate that these doped crystals could be used for the development of mid-IR solid-state lasers or mid-IR fiber lasers.

Abstract
The room-temperature laser-oscillation properties of lead thiogallate crystals doped with dysprosium ions PbGa(2)S(4):Dy(3+) without additional codoping and codoped with potassium ion for excessive charge compensation were investigated. A slope efficiency of 1% was obtained for the codoped crystal. YAP:Er -1.66 microm laser resonant pumping of PbGa(2)S(4):Dy(3+) laser was compared with YAG:Nd -1.32 microm nonresonant pumping. The maximum energy obtained was 57 microJ with the negligible influence of the atmosphere.
