Near-infrared image recovery based on modulation instability in CdZnTe:V

We propose a near-infrared image recovery method based on modulation instability in the photorefractive semiconductor CdZnTe:V. The formation mechanism of modulation instability in CdZnTe:V is discussed, and the theoretical gain model is derived. Theoretical results of optical image recovery at 1 µm and 1.5 µm wavelengths demonstrate that the maximum cross-correlation gain is 2.6 with a signal to noise intensity ratio of 0.1. These results suggest that our method could be one of potential aids for near-infrared imaging.

Self-deflection and all-optical beam steering in CdZnTe

We report on the experimental observation of very large self-deflection of optical beams, along with all-optical steering, and electro-optic beam deflection. We observe as many as 27 resolvable spots of deflection at 1-W/cm2 intensity. These deflections arise from enhanced photorefractive effects in CdZnTe:V, giving rise to optically induced index changes in excess of 0.08, which is to our knowledge the strongest nonlinearity ever reported for any bulk semiconductor.

Solitonlike beam propagation along light-induced singularity of space charge in fast photorefractive media

We investigate light beam propagation in a fast photorefractive medium placed in an alternating electric ac field to enhance the nonlinear response. It is shown that the joint action of the optical and material nonlinearities leads to formation of a narrow singularity of the light-induced space charge at the intensity maximum and to self-trapping of the light energy near the corresponding discontinuity of the index profile. Owing to the strong saturation of the material nonlinearity, the trapped beam propagates over long distances with only a weak loss of its power.

Photorefractive solitons and light-induced resonance control in semiconductor CdZnTe

We demonstrate the formation of (1+1) - and (2+1) -dimensional solitons in photorefractive CdZnTe:V, exploiting the intensity-resonant behavior of the space-charge field. We control the resonance optically, facilitating a 10-mus soliton formation times with very low optical power.
