Analytical spatiotemporal localizations for the generalized (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Exact periodic cross-kink wave solutions for the new (2+1)-dimensional KdV equation in fluid flows and plasma physics

The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV)-type models have been shown to describe many important physical situations such as fluid flows, plasma physics, and solid state physics. In this paper, a new (2 + 1)-dimensional KdV equation is discussed. Based on the Hirota's bilinear form and a generalized three-wave approach, we obtain new exact solutions for the new (2 + 1)-dimensional KdV equation. With the help of symbolic computation, the properties for some new solutions are presented with some figures.

An analysis of spatiotemporal localized solutions in the variable coefficients (3 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with six different forms of dispersion parameters

We construct spatiotemporal localized envelope solutions of a (3 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with varying coefficients such as dispersion, nonlinearity and gain parameters through similarity transformation technique. The obtained localized rational solutions can serve as prototypes of rogue waves in different branches of science. We investigate the characteristics of constructed localized solutions in detail when it propagates through six different dispersion profiles, namely, constant, linear, Gaussian, hyperbolic, logarithm, and exponential. We also obtain expressions for the hump and valleys of rogue wave intensity profiles for these six dispersion profiles and study the trajectory of it in each case. Further, we analyze how the intensity of another localized solution, namely, breather, changes when it propagates through the aforementioned six dispersion profiles. Our studies reveal that these localized solutions co-exist with the collapsing solutions which are already found in the (3 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The obtained results will help to understand the corresponding localized wave phenomena in related fields.

Controllable pulse width of bright similaritons in a tapered graded index diffraction decreasing waveguide

We obtain the bright similariton solutions for generalized inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation (GINLSE) which governs the pulse propagation in a tapered graded index diffraction decreasing waveguide (DDW). The exact solutions have been worked out by employing similarity transformations which involve the mapping of the GINLSE to standard NLSE for the certain conditions of the parameters. By making use of the exact analytical solutions, we have investigated the dynamical behavior of optical similariton pairs and have suggested the methods to control them as they propagate through DDW. Moreover, pulse width of similariton is controlled through various profiles. These results are helpful to understand the similaritons in DDW and can be potentially useful for future experiments in optical communications which involve optical amplifiers and long-haul telecommunication networks.

Modulation stability analysis of exact multidimensional solutions to the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the Gross-Pitaevskii equation using a variational approach

We analyze the modulation stability of spatiotemporal solitary and traveling wave solutions to the multidimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with variable coefficients that were obtained using Jacobi elliptic functions. For all the solutions we obtain either unconditional stability, or a conditional stability that can be furnished through the use of dispersion management.

Higher dimensional Gaussian-type solitons of nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic and power-law nonlinearities in PT-symmetric potentials

Two families of Gaussian-type soliton solutions of the (n+1)-dimensional Schrödinger equation with cubic and power-law nonlinearities in -symmetric potentials are analytically derived. As an example, we discuss some dynamical behaviors of two dimensional soliton solutions. Their phase switches, powers and transverse power-flow densities are discussed. Results imply that the powers flow and exchange from the gain toward the loss regions in the cell. Moreover, the linear stability analysis and the direct numerical simulation are carried out, which indicates that spatial Gaussian-type soliton solutions are stable below some thresholds for the imaginary part of -symmetric potentials in the defocusing cubic and focusing power-law nonlinear medium, while they are always unstable for all parameters in other media.

Three-dimensional structures of the spatiotemporal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with power-law nonlinearity in PT-symmetric potentials

The spatiotemporal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with power-law nonlinearity in PT-symmetric potentials is investigated, and two families of analytical three-dimensional spatiotemporal structure solutions are obtained. The stability of these solutions is tested by the linear stability analysis and the direct numerical simulation. Results indicate that solutions are stable below some thresholds for the imaginary part of PT-symmetric potentials in the self-focusing medium, while they are always unstable for all parameters in the self-defocusing medium. Moreover, some dynamical properties of these solutions are discussed, such as the phase switch, power and transverse power-flow density. The span of phase switch gradually enlarges with the decrease of the competing parameter k in PT-symmetric potentials. The power and power-flow density are all positive, which implies that the power flow and exchange from the gain toward the loss domains in the PT cell.

Controllable optical rogue waves in the femtosecond regime

We derive analytical rogue wave solutions of variable-coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations describing the femtosecond pulse propagation via a transformation connected with the constant-coefficient Hirota equation. Then we discuss the propagation behaviors of controllable rogue waves, including recurrence, annihilation, and sustainment in a periodic distributed fiber system and an exponential dispersion decreasing fiber. Finally, we investigate nonlinear tunneling effects for rogue waves.

Nonlinear similariton tunneling effect in the birefringent fiber

We derive analytical bright and dark similaritons of the generalized coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with distributed coefficients. An exact balance condition between the dispersion, nonlinearity and the gain/loss has been obtained. Under this condition, we discuss the nonlinear similariton tunneling effect.

Exact spatial similaritons and rogons in 2D graded-index waveguides

We analytically obtain both bright and dark spatial similaritons on the background wave and rogons in two-dimensional (2D) graded-index waveguides.
