Wavelength multicasting through four-wave mixing with an optical comb source

Based on four-wave mixing (FWM) with an optical comb source (OCS), we experimentally demonstrate 26-way or 15-way wavelength multicasting of 10-Gb/s differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) data in a highly-nonlinear fiber (HNLF) or a silicon waveguide, respectively. The OCS provides multiple spectrally equidistant pump waves leading to a multitude of FWM products after mixing with the signal. We achieve error-free operation with power penalties less than 5.7 dB for the HNLF and 4.2 dB for the silicon waveguide, respectively.

One-to-six WDM multicasting of DPSK signals based on dual-pump four-wave mixing in a silicon waveguide

We present WDM multicasting based on dual-pump four-wave mixing in a 3-mm long dispersion engineered silicon waveguide. One-to-six phase-preserving WDM multicasting of 10-Gb/s differential phase-shift-keying (DPSK) data is experimentally demonstrated with bit-error rate measurements. All the six multicast signals show error-free performance with power penalty less than 3.8 dB.

All-optical modulation-transparent wavelength multicasting in a highly nonlinear fiber Sagnac loop mirror

An all-optical wavelength multicasting scheme using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) Sagnac loop mirror has been demonstrated. This proposed scheme has the advantage that even when the wavelength of a multicast channel overlaps with the pump-pump generated idler, clear eye diagram can still be observed. Six and ten 10-Gb/s multicast channels, compliant with the ITU grid, are successfully obtained by using two- and three-pump lasers, respectively. Multicasting of on-off shift keying (OOK) and differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals are both successfully demonstrated. The maximum power penalty of the multicast channels is less than 3.5 dB. Furthermore, compared with the non-loop configuration, up to 1.2 dB power penalty improvement can be achieved in this proposed Sagnac loop configuration.

DPSK multicast using multiple-pump FWM in Bismuths highly nonlinear fiber with high multicast efficiency

In this paper, we discuss the multicast efficiency issue in the optical layer multicast. A 1-to-8 phase-preserved different phase-shifted keying (DPSK) wavelength multicast is experimentally demonstrated using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a piece of Bismuth highly nonlinear fiber (Bi- HNLF). DPSK signal is successfully delivered from one wavelength to up to eight different wavelengths using only three pumps. Compared with the existing schemes, the multicast efficiency is greatly improved by delivering the phase information to more destination wavelengths.
