Abstract
OBJECTIVES This review and meta-analysis aims to reveal how pain education interventions affect registered nurses' pain management. DESIGN A systematic review and meta-analysis DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL (EBSCOhost), and ERIC REVIEW METHODS: A systematic search of four electronic databases was conducted to identify relevant peer-reviewed English or Finnish-language articles published between 2008 and 2021. The review included a quality appraisal and a meta-analysis of articles providing group-level data before and after the intervention (n = 12). The methods followed the PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS Overall, 23 articles met the inclusion criteria for the review, of which 15 were evaluated as good quality. Based on the articles on document audits (n = 10), pain education interventions reduced the risk of not receiving the best pain management by 40%, whereas based on the articles on patients' experiences (n = 4), they reduced the risk by 25%. The study quality and design of these articles were considerably heterogenous. CONCLUSIONS Pain education study strategies varied widely among the included articles. These articles used multivariate interventions without systematization or sufficient opportunity to transfer the study protocols. It can be concluded that versatile pain nursing education interventions, as well as auditing of pain nursing and its documentation combined with feedback, can be effective to nurses in adapting pain management and assessment practices and increasing patient satisfaction. However, further research is required in this regard. In addition, well-designed, implemented, and reproducible evidence-based pain education intervention is required in the future.

Abstract
Petroleum-based plastics (PBP) with different properties have been developed to suit various needs of modern lives. Nevertheless, these well-developed properties also present the double-edged sword effect that significantly threatens the sustainability of the environment. This work focuses on the impact of microbial cultivating conditions (the elementary compositions and temperature) to provide insightful information for the process optimization of microbial degradation. The major elementary compositions in cultivation media and temperature from the literature were radically reviewed and assessed using the constructed supervised machine learning algorithm. Fifty-two literatures were collected as a training dataset to investigate the impact of major chemical elements and cultivation temperature upon PBP biodegradation. Among six singular parameters (NH4+, K+, PO43-, Mg2+, Ca2+, and temperature) and thirty corresponding binary parameters, four singular (NH4+, K+, PO43-, and Mg2+) and six binary parameters (NH4+/K+, NH4+/PO43-, NH4+/Ca2+, K+/PO43-, PO43-/Mg2+, Mg2+/Temp) were identified as statistically significant towards microbial degradation through analysis of variance (ANOVA). The binary effect (PO43-/Mg2+) is found to be the most statistically significant towards the microbial degradation of PBP. The concentration range, which locates at 0.1-0.6 g/L for Mg2+ and 0-2.8 g/L for PO43-, was identified to contribute to the maximum PBP biodegradation. Among all the investigated elements, Mg2+ is the only element that is statistically and significantly associated with the variations of cultivation temperature. The optimal preparation conditions within ± 20% uncertainties based upon the range of collected literature reports are recommended. Five representative cultivation elementary compositions (NH4+, K+, PO43-, Mg2+, and Ca2+) and temperature were reviewed from fifty two different literature reports to investigate their impacts on the microbial degradation of PBP using supervised machine learning algorithm. The optimal cultivation conditions based upon collected literature reports to achieve biodegradation over 80% were identified.

Abstract
AIM to analyse the progress of implementing the process recommendations of the RNAO Assessment and Management of Pain guideline and health outcomes. METHOD An observational, longitudinal, retrospective study conducted in 3tertiary-level hospitals in Spain. All patients discharged over the last 5 days of each month from the units selected in the implementation process were included. We evaluated structural data, mean hospital stay, implementation strategy and degree of implementation of the process recommendations of the RNAO guideline over the first 3 years of implementation, and outcomes. A descriptive analysis was performed by calculating means and absolute and relative frequencies in periods: baseline (T0), annual, over the 3first years of implementation (T1, T2 and T3 respectively), and inferential. RESULTS 8128 patients were included in the study. Hypotheses were contrasted between the different periods. The initial pain assessment in the first 24h following admission or post-surgery increased after the baseline period in all the hospitals, especially those that did not meet the guidelines from the outset. It continued to rise progressively up to 3 years following implementation (reaching 94.6% in hospital 2). By contrast, implementation of the care plan did not exceed 37.5% and 38.5% in hospitals 1 and 3 respectively. With regard to the outcome indicators, the prevalence of pain at 24hours and intense pain generally decreased in the 3hospitals from T0 or T1 to T3, however no conclusive statistically significant differences were obtained. CONCLUSIONS Implementation of the process recommendations improved from the outset, as did patient outcomes. A decrease in the prevalence and intensity of pain was achieved, although no conclusive data were obtained; all of which leads to better nursing practice with more recording, continuity of care and improved pain management for patients.

Abstract
Background Pain is one of the main complaints of many patients in intensive care units. However, most nurses and physicians are unable to properly monitor and relieve pain in these patients. Factors such as patients' inability to describe their pain and insufficient knowledge of nurses and physicians have made pain management difficult. Given that the knowledge and attitude of nurses play an important role in the effective implementation of the pain management process, this study aimed to investigate the effect of comprehensive pain management training program on the awareness and attitude of intensive care unit nurses. Methods This quasi-experimental single-group study was conducted in two phases (pre and post-intervention) to investigate the awareness and attitude of all nurses employed in the intensive care unit of Tehran Modarres Hospital, based on the determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the pre-intervention phase, the awareness and attitudes of the nurses were assessed using a questionnaire. After conducting the pain management training course, an executive program and algorithm were implemented for pain management in ICUs. Then, the nurses’ awareness and attitude toward pain management were assessed again. Finally, changes in the scores of the nurses’ awareness and attitude were analyzed by SPSS V. 22 software in two phases before and after applying the interventions using the Wilcoxon test. The relationship between some demographic variables and the level of awareness and attitude of nurses was also investigated using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. Results The results of this study indicated that the mean score of the nurses’ awareness was significantly different in pre- and post-intervention phases (P < 0.05). Despite an increase in the post-intervention mean score of the nurses’ attitude (71.03), no statistically significant change was observed. Additionally, among the demographic variables, there was only a significant relationship between the nurses' job experience in ICUs and their attitudes. Conclusions Based on the results of this study, teaching and implementing a comprehensive program for pain management can play an effective role in promoting the nurses’ awareness. Therefore, it is proposed to use pain management models to improve the nurses' knowledge and attitude toward pain management in ICU patients.
