Abstract
OBJECTIVE Burnout syndrome, characterised by emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and decreased personal accomplishment, is well documented in the medical workforce. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of burnout in New Zealand resident doctors (doctors who have yet to complete their specialty training). DESIGN Cross-sectional survey study of resident doctors in New Zealand. SETTING Distributed by email. PARTICIPANTS 509 resident doctors currently working in New Zealand. Doctors not currently working or those who have completed their specialty training (consultants) were excluded. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES Participants were asked about a number of demographic and work-related factors and to complete the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which measures the three dimensions of burnout: 'Emotional Exhaustion', 'Depersonalisation' and low 'Personal Accomplishment'. RESULTS 409/509 (80%) of respondents had scores indicating high burnout on at least one dimension. 163 (32%) had high burnout on one dimension, 111 (22%) on two dimensions and 135 (26%) on all three dimensions. Feeling well supported protected against burnout in all three dimensions: emotional exhaustion (OR 0.34, CI 0.19 to 0.60), depersonalisation (OR 0.52, CI 0.31 to 0.86) and decreased personal accomplishment (OR 0.51, CI 0.29 to 0.78). Having a manageable workload protected against emotional exhaustion (OR 0.23, CI 0.13 to 0.37) and depersonalisation (OR 0.39, CI 0.24 to 0.61). Increasing weekly exercise was protective for personal accomplishment (OR 0.846, CI 0.73 to 0.98). Having children was protective for depersonalisation (OR 0.7, CI 0.53 to 0.90). A personal history of depression or anxiety was associated with burnout on all three dimensions: emotional exhaustion (OR 2.86, CI 1.67 to 5.00), depersonalisation (OR 1.66, CI 1.01 to 2.73) and decreased personal accomplishment (OR 1.71, CI 1.05 to 2.80). Alcohol misuse was associated with an increased risk of depersonalisation (OR 1.68, CI 1.08 to 2.62), and feeling inadequately remunerated was associated with emotional exhaustion (OR 2.27, CI 1.28 to 4.17). Qualitative data revealed concerns about poor staffing, inadequate remuneration, a focus on service provision over education, slow career progression and difficulty balancing work and specialty examinations. CONCLUSIONS Burnout has a high prevalence in New Zealand's resident doctor workforce. Several associations and qualitative themes were identified. These findings may aid in the development of interventions to mitigate burnout in the medical workforce.

Abstract
PURPOSE Healthcare workforce shortages, particularly in rural areas, present a global challenge. The purpose of this study is to explore the leadership dynamics within federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in rural Oklahoma, focusing on recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and development practices. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH Eighteen managers with five or more years of tenure from Oklahoma FQHCs were interviewed. Leadership's role in influencing job satisfaction, recruitment, retention and development practices was analyzed using a multilevel ecological framework through qualitative content analysis with NVivo. FINDINGS The analysis includes ten key themes including the critical role of leadership in addressing recruitment and retention challenges, the importance of aligning organizational culture, rural culture, access challenges, trainings and values with workforce development initiatives, and the impact of leadership practices on job satisfaction. ORIGINALITY/VALUE This study uniquely examines leadership strategies in rural FQHCs, integrating ecological considerations for cultural, logistical and community-specific factors. It emphasizes the pivotal role leadership plays in shaping workforce development. As rural healthcare evolves, refining these approaches is crucial for addressing workforce challenges, improving healthcare access and ensuring that rural FQHCs remain sustainable, driving positive outcomes for healthcare professionals and communities.

Abstract
Background The healthcare sector is one of the most important sectors in any country. Any disruption in the productivity of the workforce majorly affects healthcare entities. Job satisfaction directly interferes with the individual's productivity. Hence, the job satisfaction of healthcare workers (HCWs) is a fundamental issue to discuss, investigate, and study to improve the outputs to their maximal levels, especially if limited studies are done in this regard. Methodology A descriptive, cross-sectional, facility-based study was conducted among 302 HCWs in 30 primary healthcare centers (PHCCs) in the Qassim region, Saudi Arabia, using a pretested, validated, electronically self-administered "Satisfaction of Employees in Health Care" (SEHC) questionnaire. Our sample included physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dental workers, and lab and radiology technicians. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 29 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Results The mean score of the overall perception of job satisfaction in primary healthcare staff was 3.9 (±1.01) out of one to five scale questions. This implies a high satisfaction in 71.2% (n = 215) of the sample. Nurses expressed the highest satisfaction with their roles, comprising 26.5% (n = 80) who reported high satisfaction. Second in line were physicians, demonstrating high satisfaction levels with 14.2% (n = 43). The third place was for lab technicians, 4.6% (n = 14) of whom expressed high satisfaction. Many factors were found to be significantly statistically associated with job satisfaction, including gender (p = 0.015), age (p = 0.001), job rank (p = 0.027), number of patients seen per day (p = 0.002), type of primary healthcare duty (p = 0.042), and health workers' years of experience (p = 0.000). Conclusion The study revealed that HCWs at primary healthcare facilities in the Qassim region, Saudi Arabia, were highly satisfied with their jobs. Significant statistical relationships were found between job satisfaction and factors such as years of experience, type of duty in PHCCs, and number of attendees per day. To improve HCWs' job satisfaction, we recommend that they receive additional organizational support and response to feedback, a reduced workload achieved through increased staffing, and flexible work shifts. We also recommend investigating satisfaction in the private healthcare sector.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Philippines has a shortage and uneven distribution of healthcare workers (HCWs). Job satisfaction is an important element to HCW retention and attracting new HCWs into the health system. OBJECTIVE This study measured HCWs' intent to stay and HCWs' satisfaction after implementation of multiple interventions intended to strengthen the primary care system, and determine factors significantly associated with HCWs' intent to stay. METHODOLOGY This is a serial cross-sectional study in urban, rural and remote primary care sites in the Philippines. All physicians, nurses, midwives, dentists, community health workers and support staff were invited to participate. Baseline HCWs' intent to stay and satisfaction were obtained using a self-administered questionnaire prior to implementation of interventions. The same survey was again conducted in the years 2021 and 2022, corresponding to 5 and 6 years after initial implementation for the urban site, and 2 and 3 years for the rural and remote sites. We used multiple logistic regression to determine factors associated with intent to stay. RESULTS There were 430 survey respondents (89.4% response rate) for year 2021, and 417 survey respondents (97.4% response rate) for year 2022. The urban and rural sites had significant increase in several HCW satisfaction domains, while the remote site had significant decrease in several HCW satisfaction domains. There was no significant difference in the intent to stay in the three sites. Factors that decreased intent to stay included length of employment, job involvement and employment as a nurse, while factors that increased intent to stay included job satisfaction, enjoyment and working in the urban site. CONCLUSION HCW satisfaction improved in the urban site and rural site, while HCW satisfaction declined in the remote site. Intention to stay of primary care HCWs did not significantly change.

Abstract
Background The global healthcare landscape was profoundly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic placing nurses squarely at the heart of this emergency. This review aimed to identify the factors correlated with nurses' job satisfaction, the impact of their job satisfaction on both themselves and their patients, and to explore strategies that might have counteracted their job dissatisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for systematic reviews of prevalence and incidence was used in this review. The electronic databases of CINAHL, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, PsycINFO and Academic Search Complete were searched between January 2020 to February 2023. Results The literature review identified 23 studies from 20 countries on nurses' job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. A pooled prevalence of 69.6% of nurses were satisfied with personal, environmental, and psychological factors influencing their job satisfaction. Job satisfaction improved psychological wellbeing and quality of life, while dissatisfaction was linked to turnover and mental health issues. Conclusion This systematic review elucidates key factors impacting nurses' job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic, its effects on healthcare provision, and the potential countermeasures for job dissatisfaction. Core influences include working conditions, staff relationships, and career opportunities. High job satisfaction correlates with improved patient care, reduced burnout, and greater staff retention. Abstract
Healthcare workers are a susceptible population to be psychologically affected during health crises, such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Resilience has been pointed out in the literature as a possible protective factor against psychological distress in crisis situations. This can be influenced by internal and external factors, such as individual characteristics and organizational factors. Thus, this study aims to characterize the overall resilience levels among healthcare professionals in Portugal and to understand the perspectives of this healthcare workers regarding organizational factors that improve individual resilience. This is a mixed-method study: a first quantitative study using a cross-sectional design to administer the Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) to 271 healthcare professionals (Mage 33.90, SD = 9.59 years, 90.80% female), followed by a qualitative study through 10 in-depth interviews. The mean score for the total RSA was 178.17 (SD = 22.44) out of a total of 231. Qualitative analysis showed 4 major themes on factors that enhance resilience: "Professional's Training," "Support and Wellbeing Measures," "Reorganization of Services" and "Professional Acknowledgment." The findings may contribute to the development of targeted interventions and support systems to enhance resilience and well-being among healthcare workers.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the sociodemographic characteristics that affect job stress and job satisfaction in 454 healthcare workers (physicians, nurses, midwives, technicians, and other healthcare personnel) working with COVID-19 patients in primary healthcare institutions in Turkey with a cross-sectional, web-based survey between 9 and 30 August 2021. The survey included a personal information form, a standard job stress scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. The levels of job stress and job satisfaction did not differ between male and female respondents. Singles reported lower job stress and higher job satisfaction than the married respondents. Job stress did not differ between departments, but respondents on the front line who worked in a COVID-19 intensive care unit (ICU) (at any point and/or at the time of the study) or the emergency department reported lower job satisfaction than those working in other departments. Similarly, while stress did not differ by educational status, satisfaction of respondents with bachelor's or master's degree was lower than that of the rest. Our findings also suggest that working in a COVID-19 ICU and age are significant predictors of higher stress, whereas lower education, working in a COVID-19 ICU, and being married are good predictors of lower satisfaction. Further research should include other sociodemographic variables that may affect stress and satisfaction at work, and similar studies should follow up to see what was left in the wake of the pandemic.

Abstract
Background: Outreach health practitioners play a key role in enhancing access to healthcare for remote, rural, regional, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia. Outreach health practitioners are those providing ongoing and integrated health services in communities that would otherwise have limited access. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to understand the job satisfaction of health workers as it correlates with long-term retention of the workforce, as well as effectiveness in the role and clinical outcomes for patients. Method: The study analysed data from 258 outreach health practitioners who responded to two cross-sectional surveys conducted by the NSW Rural Doctors Network during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020/21 and 2021/22 in NSW and the ACT, Australia. Both bivariate and multivariate analyses were employed to assess the associations between the outcome variable (outreach health practitioners' job satisfaction) and independent variables (sociodemographic factors, motivation, self-confidence, communication, capability). Results: Overall, the study showed that 92.2% of health practitioners were satisfied in their role providing outreach health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the multivariable model, factors significantly associated with higher satisfaction included good communication with other local health practitioners, using telehealth along with in-person care, and having high self-rated capability compared to those health practitioners who said they had lower job satisfaction. Conclusions: Outreach health practitioners' job satisfaction is important because poor satisfaction may lead to suboptimal healthcare delivery, poor clinical outcomes, and poor retention of staff in rural settings. These findings should be taken into consideration when developing future strategies to improve job satisfaction among rural outreach health practitioners and to enhance attraction, recruitment and retention and may be applicable to the broader health workforce.
