Does corporate governance mechanism deter earnings management and enhance readability of annual reports?

This study aims to know the impact of earnings management (accrual, real and total) and corporate governance mechanisms on the readability of annual reports. Additionally, the study also seeks to know the moderating impact of corporate governance mechanisms between earnings management (accruals, real and total) and readability of annual reports. The sample of the study consists 250 listed firms of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for the period of 2014-2022. The hypotheses are tested using System GMM technique. The results of the study suggest that earnings management (accruals, real and total) has negative and significant impact on readability of annual reports. However, all four corporate governance mechanics have a significantly positive impact on readability of annual reports. Additionally, corporate governance mechanics significantly moderates the relationship between earnings management (accruals, real and total) and the readability of annual reports. This study has practical implications for regulators, investors, and firms. The findings of the study may suggest to the Security Exchange Commission Pakistan that authorities improve readability by requiring companies to use clear, understandable language and include appropriate information in annual reports. Firms listed on PSX need to produce more readable annual reports to make information more concise and clear, using simple and short sentences, and familiar words.

Role of scientific and technological innovations on industrial upgradation in China: A spatial econometric analysis

China is in a phase of high-quality development, where scientific and technological innovations are serving as the primary driving force for its development strategy. This emphasis on innovations is expected to fuel the upgrading of the industrial structure. This study investigates the role of scientific and technological innovations in industrial upgradation in China using spatial econometric analysis. Leveraging the data of 31 provinces of China from 2005 to 2022, we employed a spatial Durbin model to determine the spatial spillover effects of scientific and technological innovations on industrial upgradation. Our findings reveal the significant positive spatial spillover effects, indicating that provinces with higher levels of scientific and technological innovations tend to experience greater industrial upgradation, which in turn contributes to regional economic development. Furthermore, the findings suggest a strong spatial correlation between innovation and the upgrading of industrial structures, indicating that regional innovations have the potential to drive China's industrial upgradation. These results underscore the critical role of scientific and technological innovations in promoting industrial upgradation and regional development in China.

Encirclement of productive capacities and institutions in context of sustainable development

The question of whether productive capacities and institutional quality facilitate or impede progress towards sustainable development is a significant issue that has not been extensively explored in prior literature. Despite their importance, these variables are often overlooked in the literature on sustainable development, yet they play a crucial role in enabling efforts to achieve sustainable development. In this study, we examined how productive capacities affect sustainable development, with a moderating impact of institutional quality. The sample was comprised of 44 Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) economies, covering the period from 2000 to 2018. Using a two-step system GMM, we found that the relation between productive capacities and sustainable development is dynamic, positive, and significant. Additionally, institutional quality played a moderating role in achieving sustainable development, especially among regionally connected countries. Our findings suggest that sustainable development is strongly linked to a country's productive capacities. Therefore, improving productive capacities and institutional quality may lead to long-term development and sustainability. These results are valuable to academia as they provide new thought regarding the influence of productive capacities and institutional quality on sustainable development, and policymakers may benefit from the suggestions presented regarding productive capacities and institutional quality.

Spatio-Temporal analysis of exports of cultural products and their affecting factors for spatial distribution

Cultural products constitute a significant portion of global trade, and understanding their export patterns can shed light on economic trends, trade dynamics, and market opportunities. This study conducted the spatio-temporal analysis of exports of cultural products, exploring the relationship between various influencing factors and their impact on the spatial distribution of these exports. Leveraging a diverse dataset encompassing 55 BRI countries for the period of 2005-2022, this research employs advanced spatial analysis techniques, including spatial autocorrelation and spatial regression models, to examine the spatial patterns and determinants of exports if cultural product exports. Moreover, this study delves into the multifaceted determinants affecting the spatial distribution of these exports. The findings of this study reveal significant spatio-temporal variations in the exports of cultural products. Spatial autocorrelation analysis indicates the presence of spatial clustering, suggesting that regions with high cultural product exports tend to be geographically close to each other. The spatial regression models further identify several key factors like economic development, productive capacities, cultural tourism, information development and human capital influence the spatial distribution of these exports. The findings of the study reveal that there is strong spatial relationship for exports of cultural products in BRI countries. The findings of this research contribute valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and stakeholders regarding a deeper comprehension of the driving forces behind the spatial distribution of these cultural products, facilitating informed decision-making processes to optimize strategies for promoting and sustaining the trade of cultural products in an increasingly interconnected world.

Application of multimedia technology to innovative vocational education on learning satisfaction in China

Multimedia technology holds paramount importance in driving innovation within vocational education, significantly influencing learning satisfaction. Its integration facilitates dynamic and interactive learning environments, catering to diverse learning styles and preferences. Moreover, multimedia technology enables educators to simulate real-world scenarios, providing practical and hands-on training opportunities. This aspect is particularly valuable in vocational education, where practical skills and application are required. The paper investigates the impact of multimedia technology in enhancing learning satisfaction within innovative vocational education. It delves into the utilization of multimedia tools and their correlation with learner satisfaction, exploring how these technologies augment engagement and comprehension in vocational training. The primary data from 515 students of vocational colleges of China has been collected and regression analysis is applied for empirical analysis. The findings of the study highlight that multimedia technology has positive relationship with innovative vocational education and learning outcome. The findings contribute valuable insights for policymakers regarding significant role multimedia plays in fostering enhanced learning experiences and overall satisfaction among vocational learners.
