Abstract
Introduction Aging is characterized by gradual structural and functional changes in the body over time, with intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) representing a key manifestation of spinal aging and a major contributor to low back pain (LBP). Methods This study utilized bioinformatics and machine learning approaches to identify aging-related biomarkers associated with IVDD in whole blood samples. By analyzing GEO datasets alongside aging-related databases such as GeneCards, HAGR, and AgeAnno, we identified 15 aging-related differentially expressed genes (AIDEGs). Correlation and immune infiltration analyses were conducted on these AIDEGs, and diagnostic models were developed using WGCNA, logistic regression, random forest, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbors, and LASSO regression to identify key genes. Results Among these, FCGR1A, CBS, and FASLG emerged as significant biomarkers with strong predictive capabilities for IVDD. Further exploration of biological pathways involving AIDEGs provided insights into their potential roles in IVDD pathogenesis. To further validate these findings, we collected human blood specimens and conducted in vitro experiments. ELISA assays confirmed that CBS and FASLG are crucial biomarkers of IVDD, with distinct expression patterns in patients with moderate versus severe degeneration. Discussion These results highlight the diagnostic potential of AIDEGs and provide a new perspective for early intervention and treatment strategies in IVDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Achieving bony fusion after anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion is crucial for restoring spinal stability; however, the risk factors associated with fusion failure, or pseudarthrosis, remain unclear. This study aims to identify risk factors for pseudarthrosis following anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion and evaluate the impact of C2 slope and uncovertebral joint degeneration on this condition. METHODS Patients who underwent single-level anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion between May 2015 and April 2022 and had a minimum of 2 years of computed tomography follow-up were retrospectively enrolled. Preoperative demographic, surgical, clinical, and radiographic data were collected. Patients were divided into fusion and pseudarthrosis groups based on fusion status evaluated at the final follow-up computed tomography. After identifying statistically significant variables through intergroup comparisons, multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the risk factors for pseudarthrosis. RESULTS A total of 102 patients were included in the study, with an average follow-up duration of 3.78 ± 1.70 years. At final follow-up, 37 patients (36.3%) developed pseudarthrosis, while 65 patients (63.7%) achieved fusion. No significant differences were observed in demographic and clinical parameters between the groups. The pseudarthrosis group exhibited significantly greater preoperative C2-7 Cobb angles (p = 0.029), segment range of motion (p < 0.001), lower C2 slope (p < 0.001), and less severe uncovertebral joint degeneration grades (p = 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that, after adjustment, greater segment range of motion (p = 0.003), lower C2 slope (p = 0.006), and milder uncovertebral joint degeneration grades (p = 0.023) were significant risk factors for pseudarthrosis following single-level anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion. The area under the curve of the regression model was 0.867. CONCLUSIONS Lower preoperative C2 slope, greater segment range of motion, and milder uncovertebral joint degeneration grades may be risk factors for pseudarthrosis following anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion. These characteristics should be further considered in surgical planning to identify high-risk patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Severe facet arthropathy is generally a contraindication to undergoing cervical disc replacement (CDR) due to associated instability and potentially limited improvement in neck pain caused by arthropathy. This study evaluates the influence of facet arthropathy on radiographic/early clinical outcomes after CDR. METHODS One/two-level CDR patients from a single surgeon's prospectively maintained database created 2 cohorts based on facet arthropathy: grade 0-1 or 2-3 (milder/moderate arthropathy). Patient-reported outcome measures for neck disability, neck/arm pain, depressive burden, mental/physical health/function were obtained preoperatively and through final follow-up (average follow-up: 8.5 ± 6.5 months). Preoperative/postoperative radiographs measured segmental lordosis and C2-C7/segmental range of motion (ROM) and determined facet grade for each operative level. Demographic differences, perioperative variables, baseline patient-reported outcomes, and intercohort differences/changes for postoperative patient-reported/radiographic outcomes were determined. RESULTS Of 161 patients, 100 were in the milder arthropathy group. There were no differences in baseline patient-reported outcomes. Patients with moderate arthropathy reported superior 6-week 12-Item Veterans Rand Mental/Physical Composite Scores ( P ≤ .047, all). By final follow-up, moderate patients reported better 12-Item Veterans Rand Mental/Physical Composite Scores/Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System-Physical Function/Patient-Health Questionnaire-9 ( P ≤ .049, all). Cohorts reported similar improvements in all patient-reported outcomes by 6 weeks/final follow-up. Those with more severe facet arthropathy had significantly shorter preoperative disc heights ( P < .001). Accounting for baseline disc height differences, by final follow-up, moderate patients had lower segmental ROM ( P = .036). There were no significant differences in radiographic measurement changes ( P ≥ .264, all). CONCLUSION Postoperatively, patients with moderate facet arthropathy reported lower depressive burden, better mental health/physical function, and lower segmental ROM. However, this did not translate to inferior short-term clinical outcomes. Further study should be conducted on the relationship between clinical/radiographic outcomes in CDR patients with facet arthropathy.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the association between facet joints cross-sectional area asymmetry (FCAA) and cervical intervertebral disc herniation (CDH). METHODS Overall, we retrospectively recruited 390 consecutive patients with CDH who underwent surgical treatment at our institution and 50 normal participants. Clinical variables and radiological findings related to CDH were collected. RESULTS Patients with CDH were more likely to have a higher absolute value of the facet asymmetry factor (FAF) (p < .001), in which the FAF value of the left group was significantly higher than the other groups (p < .001) and the right group was lower than the central group (p < .001). 9.62% (C3/4), 12.19% (C4/5), 8.70% (C5/6), and 8.14% (C6/7) were determined as cutoff values for each variable that maximized sensitivity and specificity. Furthermore, multivariate analysis showed that cross-sectional area asymmetry of the facet joint (FCAA) was an independent risk factor for the occurrence of CDH. Also, the Chi-square test showed a significant difference in the distribution of the degeneration classification of the disc between the facet-degenerated group and the nondegenerated group at C5/6 (p = 0.026) and C6/7 (p = 0.005) in the facet asymmetry (FA) group. CONCLUSIONS FCAA is evaluated as an independent risk factor for CDH and associated with the orientation of disc herniation. And facet joint orientation may also play a role in cervical spine degeneration rather than facet joint tropism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The impact of cervical sagittal alignment on cervical facet joint degeneration (CFD) and the risk factors for CFD in patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) were investigated in the current study. METHODS A total of 250 surgical patients with DCM were recruited. The clinical data and radiographical characteristics, including CFD, cervical sagittal balance parameters, Hounsfield unit (HU) values, disc degeneration (DD), and modic change, were collected. The detailed correlation between these characteristics and CFD was analyzed. Characteristics, including CFD, were compared among the various cervical alignment types and different CFD groups. Finally, the risk factors for CFD were revealed via logistic regression. RESULTS CFD was prevalent in DCM patients. Age, cervical sagittal vertical axis (cSVA), range of motion, T1 slope, thoracic inlet angle, DD, HU value, and modic change correlated with CFD segmentally and globally (P < 0.05). The lordosis and sigmoid types had a significantly higher CFD prevalence (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the average CFD threshold for the severe CFD group was 1.625 (area under the curve, 0.958). Additionally, 167 patients with average CFD <1.625 and 83 patients with CFD of ≥1.625 were classified into the mild CFD group and severe CFD group, respectively. Finally, multivariate analysis was performed, and age, cSVA, HU value, modic change, and DD were determined to be independent risk factors for CFD. CONCLUSIONS The load distribution tends to shift to a more shear-like pattern in the sigmoid and kyphosis types and in those with a higher cSVA, thereby promoting CFD. Aging, cervical malalignment, low bone mineral density, DD, and modic change were revealed to result in high risks of CFD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic low back pain secondary to degenerative changes in the spine is a common cause of disability, and disc degeneration is one of the most frequent imaging findings. Intervertebral vacuum phenomenon (IVP) is usually observed in advanced degeneration. Recently, this phenomenon has gained interest due to a relatively new surgical technique called percutaneous discoplasty, aimed at treating low back pain secondary to degenerative disc disease in elderly patients. PURPOSE To analyze the prevalence and related factors of the vacuum phenomenon in adult patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective cohort study was performed of patients who underwent abdominal computed tomography (CT) for non-spine-related reasons. Age, body mass index, smoking, and CT-based characteristics as presence of IVP, subchondral sclerosis, and facet joint degeneration at the lumbar spine from L1 to the sacrum were included in order to determine the prevalence of the vacuum phenomenon in this population and establish a relationship between this condition and patient demographics and other signs of spine degeneration, such as sclerosis and facet joint disease. RESULTS A total of 238 patients were included in the study (114 men, 124 women; mean age = 75.6 ± 12.3 years. In total, 91 (38%) patients had at least one level of IVP; 59 (25%) patients exhibited subchondral sclerosis, and 235 (98%) facet joint degeneration. Among risk factors, age, smoking, and subchondral sclerosis were significantly associated with the presence of vacuum. CONCLUSION IVP was present in 38% of participants. Risk factors associated with vacuum were age, smoking, and subchondral sclerosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adjacent segment degeneration (ASDeg) after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) seriously affects the long-term efficacy of the operation. Therefore, our team has done a lot of research on allograft intervertebral disc transplantation (AIDT) to prove its feasibility and safety. This study will compare the efficacy between AIDT and ACDF in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. METHODS All patients who received ACDF or AIDT in our hospital from 2000 to 2016 and followed up for at least 5 years were recruited and divided into ACDF and AIDT groups. The clinical outcomes including functional scores and radiological data of both groups were collected and compared preoperatively and postoperatively at 1 week, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, 60 months and last follow-up. Functional scores included Japanese Orthopedic Association score (JOA), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Visual Analog Scale of Neck (N-VAS) and Arms (A-VAS) pain, the Short Form Health Survey-36 (SF-36) and imaging dates including digital radiographs in the lateral, hyperextension and flexion positions to assess the stability, sagittal balance and mobility of the cervical spine and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to assess the degeneration of adjacent segment. RESULTS There were 68 patients with 25 in AIDT group and 43 in ACDF group. Satisfactory clinical results were obtained in both groups, but the long-term NDI score and N-VAS score in the AIDT group were better. The AIDT obtained the same stability and sagittal balance of the cervical spine as fusion surgery. The range of motion of adjacent segments can be restored to the preoperative level after transplantation, but this increases significantly after ACDF. There were significant differences in the superior adjacent segment range of motion (SROM) between two groups at 12 months (P = 0.039), 24 months (P = 0.035), 60 months (P = 0.039) and the last follow-up (P = 0.011). The inferior adjacent segment range of motion (IROM) and SROM had a similar trend in the two groups. The ratio value of the greyscale (RVG) of adjacent segments showed a downward trend. At the last follow-up, the RVG decreased more significantly in the ACDF group. At the last follow-up, there was a significant difference in the incidence of ASDeg between the two groups (P = 0.000). And the incidence of adjacent segment disease (ASDis) is 22.86% in the ACDF group. CONCLUSION The allograft intervertebral disc transplantation may be as an alternative technique to traditional anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for the management of cervical degenerative diseases. For the more, the results showed it would improve cervical kinematics and reduce the incidence of adjacent segment degeneration.

Abstract
Conventional cage and plate (CCP) implants usually used in ACDF surgery, do have limitations such as the development of postoperative dysphagia, adjacent segment degeneration, and soft tissue injury. To reduce the risk of these complications, zero-profile stand-alone cage were developed. We used finite-element modeling to compare the total von Mises stress applied to the bone, disc, endplate, cage and screw when using CCP and ZPSC implants. A 3-dimensional FE (Finite element) analysis was performed to investigate the effects of the CCP implant and ZPSC on the C3 ~ T1 vertebrae. We confirmed that the maximum von Mises stress applied with ZPSC implants was more than 2 times greater in the endplate than that applied with CCP implants. The 3D analysis of the ZPSC model von Mises stress measurements of screw shows areas of higher stress in red. Although using ZPSC implants in ACDF reduces CCP implant-related sequalae such as dysphagia, we have shown that greater von Mises stress is applied to the endplate, and screw when using ZPSC implants. This may explain the higher subsidence rate associated with ZPSC implant use in ACDF. When selecting an implant in ACDF, surgeons should consider patient characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages of each implant type.

Abstract
Objective: Facet articular irregularity is associated with rapidly progressive degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). However, its significance compared with other known risk factors remains unknown. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to clarify the potential impact of facet articular irregularity as a risk factor for rapid DCM progression.Methods: This study included 141 consecutive patients with DCM who underwent surgical treatment at our institution. Clinical variables and radiological findings related to DCM progression were collected. Imaging findings were analyzed at the segmental level of myelopathy in each case. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on the presence or absence of rapid DCM progression, and independent risk factors were determined using logistic regression analyses.Results: Overall, 131 patients with a mean age of 63.9 ± 12.6 years were analyzed; 27 patients (20.6%) were classified into the rapid DCM progression group. The mean age was significantly higher in the rapid progression group than in the slow progression group (72.4 ± 9.6 vs. 61.7 ± 12.4, p < 0.001). According to univariate analysis, facet articular irregularity, dynamic segmental translation (≥ 1.6 mm), upper cervical spine involvement above C4–5, history of cerebrovascular events, preceding minor trauma, local lordotic angle (≥ 4.5°), diabetes, hypertension, ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, and age were independent risk factors. Additionally, multivariate analysis showed that facet articular irregularity was the highest risk factor for rapid DCM progression (p = 0.001).Conclusion: Facet articular irregularity is the most clinically significant finding among the known risk factors in patients with rapid DCM progression.

Abstract
Objective: Although cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) can be easily diagnosed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), prediction of surgical effect using preoperative radiological examinations remains difficult. In previous studies, it was reported that diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) may be used for the prediction of surgical effect; however, these studies did not consider the influences of spinal cord compression even though the values of DTI indexes can be distorted by compressive lesions in patients with CSM. Therefore, it is uncertain whether preoperative DTI indexes can actually predict the surgical effect. The aim of this study was to investigate DTI metrics that are hardly affected by spinal cord compression and can accurately predict neurological status after decompressive surgery.Methods: Twenty-one patients with CSM who underwent surgery and 10 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. The subjects underwent cervical MRI, and values of DTI indexes including axial diffusivity (AD), radial diffusivity (RD), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and fractional anisotropy (FA) were recorded at each intervertebral level. Further, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score of each patient with CSM was recorded before and after surgery for neurological status evaluation. Preoperative and postoperative values of DTI indexes were compared, and correlations between preoperative DTI parameters and postoperative neurological recovery were assessed.Results: After surgery, the lesion-adjacent (LA) ratios of RD and ADC increased (p = 0.04 and p = 0.062, respectively), while the LA ratio of FA decreased (p = 0.075). In contrast, the LA ratio of AD hardly changed. A negative correlation was observed between preoperative LA ratio of AD and JOA recovery rate 6 months after surgery (r = -0.379, p = 0.091). Based on preoperative LA ratio of AD, the patients were divided into a low AD group and a high AD group, and JOA recovery rate 6 months after surgery was found to be higher in the low AD group than in the high AD group (p = 0.024).Conclusion: In patients with CSM, preoperative LA ratio of AD is seldom affected by spinal cord compression, and it negatively correlates with JOA recovery rate 6 months after surgery.

Abstract
The cervical facet has complicated 3D microstructures and inhomogeneities. The cervical facet joint, which also participates in the formation, plays a certain role in regulating and limiting the movement of the spine. Correct identification and evaluation of its microstructure can help in the diagnosis of orthopedic disease and predict early phases of fracture risk. To evaluate the safety of the cervical spine by measuring and analyzing the microstructures and morphometric parameters of bone trabeculae in the normal cervical facet with high-resolution 3D micro-computed tomography. Thirty-one sets of C3 to C7 lower cervical vertebrae (155 vertebrae) were scanned using micro-computed tomography. The morphological characteristics and direction of trabecular bone in the facet of the lower cervical vertebrae were observed by selecting and rebuilding the areas of interest, and the changes in the microstructure of the areas of interest were calculated to reveal the structural characteristics and weak areas. Images indicated an ossified center between the superior and inferior articular processes of the lower cervical spine. The cellular bone trabeculae of the articular process had complex reticular microstructures. The trabecular bone plate near the cortical bone was lamellar and relatively dense, and it extended around and transformed into a network structure, and then into the rod-shaped trabecular bone. The rod-shaped trabeculae converged with the plate-shaped trabeculae with only 1 to 2 layers surrounding the trabeculae cavity. Statistical results of the morphological parameters of the trabecular bone showed that trabecular bone volume fraction values were significantly higher for C7 than for C3 to C6 (P < .05). There were significant differences between C7 and C3 to C5 and between C6 and C4 in bone surface area/bone volume (P < .05). There was a significant difference between C7 and C3 to C6 in trabecular bone thickness values (P < .05). The degree of anisotropy value was significantly smaller for C3 than for C6 and C7 (P < .05). The changes in the C3 to C7 microstructure were summarized in this study. The loading capacity and stress of the C7 articular process tended to be limited, and the risk of injury tended to be higher for the C7 articular process.

Abstract
Intervertebral discs are fibrocartilage structures, which play a role in buffering the compression applied to the vertebral bodies evenly while permitting limited movements. According to several previous studies, degenerative changes in the intervertebral disc could be accelerated by factors, such as aging, the female sex, obesity, and smoking. As degenerative change progresses, the disc height could be reduced due to the dehydration of the nucleus pulposus. This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the pressure that each structure of the spine receives according to the change in the disc height and predict the physiological effect of disc height on the spine. We analyzed the biomechanical effect on spinal structures when the disc height was decreased using a finite-element method investigation of the lumbar spine. Using a 3D FE model, the degree and distribution of von-Mises stress according to the disc height change were measured by applying the load of four different motions to the lumbar spine. The height was changed by dividing the anterior and posterior parts of the disc, and analysis was performed in the following four motions: flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation. Except for a few circumstances, the stress applied to the structure generally increased as the disc height decreased. Such a phenomenon was more pronounced when the direction in which the force was concentrated coincided with the portion where the disc height decreased. This study demonstrated that the degree of stress applied to the spinal structure generally increases as the disc height decreases. The increase in stress was more prominent when the part where the disc height was decreased and the part where the moment was additionally applied coincided. Disc height reduction could accelerate degenerative changes in the spine. Therefore, eliminating the controllable risk factors that cause disc height reduction may be beneficial for spinal health.

Abstract
Background In absence of uniform therapeutic recommendations, knowledge of the available treatment options for Modic changes (MCs) patients and their safety and effectiveness would be crucial and significant for clinicians and such patients. Objectives The aim of this study was to provide a systematic review of available studies on non-surgical treatments of MCs. Methods We performed a systematic review of multiple electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure for the period until 31st August 2021 to search for studies on non-surgical treatments for MCs in accordance with the guidance of the Cochrane Handbook. Potential studies were screened by their titles and abstracts. The methodological quality of the included studies was independently evaluated by two authors. Final recommendations for the included interventions were developed based on grades of recommendations. The narrative format was adopted to synthesize the findings of the present work. Results Fifth studies involving a total of 1147 patients were identified for this systematic review. The results of this review demonstrated that spinal manipulation has been suggested as an alternative option for patients with MCs. However, there was insufficient evidence to support that patients with MCs can benefit from the medication and wearing the rigid lumbar brace. Moreover, the rationale and safety for the use of antibiotics in such patients remain highly controversial. Low evidence revealed that exercise therapy might decrease pain intensity only for special subgroups of MCs patients. Conclusions There is not yet enough evidence to suggest that non-surgical treatments are useful for patients with MCs. Further high-quality, multicenter trials are required to validate the effectiveness of these non-surgical treatments.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate cervical facet joint degeneration using a newly developed classification, investigate its prevalence and relationship with cervical degenerative spondylolisthesis, and clarify its clinical significance in patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM).
Methods This study included 145 consecutive patients with DCM who underwent surgical treatment. Clinical variables and radiological findings were analyzed. A new 6-grade computed tomography (CT) classification for cervical facet joint degeneration was adapted, and its prevalence was evaluated by categorizing the joints into those at responsible and those at nonresponsible spinal segmental levels. We evaluated the association between rapidly progressive myelopathy and the presence of significant facet joint degeneration or spondylolisthesis at the responsible segmental level.
Results Finally, 140 patients with a mean age of 64.1 ± 12.8 years were analyzed. The prevalence of grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5A, and 5B classification in all facet joints was 72.0%, 9.5%, 10.9%, 4.3%, 2.9%, and 0.4%, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in the distribution of CT grades between the joints at the responsible and nonresponsible segmental levels (p < 0.001), with a high prevalence of grade 4 or 5B degeneration at the responsible segmental level, reflecting articular irregularity. There was also a statistically significant relationship between rapidly progressive myelopathy and grade 4 or 5B degeneration at the responsible segmental level (p < 0.001), but not between rapidly progressive myelopathy and spondylolisthesis (p = 0.255).
Conclusion This novel CT classification for facet joints deserves additional evaluation in patients with DCM. Abnormal findings on the articular surfaces might be related to the progression of myelopathy.

Abstract
Background A retrospective study investigated the degeneration trend of uncovertebral joints in a healthy population based on CT assessment. Methods A total of 200 males and 160 females, aged 21–79 years old (50.82 ± 17.06), who underwent CT examination in our hospital from September 2020 to March 2021 were enrolled. Sixty patients were included in each age group. According to the Kellgren and Lawrence classification and CT was used to evaluate the uncovertebral joints degeneration in different groups. Results With the increase of age, the degeneration of each segment was gradually aggravated. The uncovertebral joints started degenerating in the 20 s, and the C5–6 is the most degenerative segment, followed by the C4–5 and C6–7. Significant degeneration occurred in each segment between the 40 s and 60 s and became more severe after the 70 s. Conclusions The modified Kellgren and Lawrence classification based on CT scan could provide a quantitative assessment of uncovertebral joints degeneration in a healthy population and could provide more details for artificial cervical arthroplasty.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Longitudinal study of cervical MR in patients with degenerative disc disease (DDD). OBJECTIVE To evaluate the evolution of the degenerative changes in the C2-D1 cervical segments and to assess the association magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) parameters with clinical symptoms after surgical treatment in patients with DDD. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The evolution of degenerative changes in the cervical spine is poorly understood. Endplate defects can be of great importance in progressive disc degeneration (DD). Clarification of this predictor may be important in determining the treatment tactics in patients with DDD. METHODS The study included patients who had 2-years' follow-up after cervical fusion for spondylotic radiculo- with/without myelopathy. Demographic data (age, sex, surgical data) were assessed; clinical data (visual analogue scale [VAS] neck, VAS arm, Neck Disability Index [NDI]) and cervical MRI (DD grades by Pfirrmann, Modic changes (MC), total endplate scores (TEPS) were compared to preoperative data. RESULTS The median follow-up term was 26.5 (18.9-33.1) months. All patients reported a decrease neck pain and arm pain at follow-up (P < 0.001). There was observed the change in MC types (P < 0.001) and an increase of TEPS (P < 0.05). 71.7% discs remained unchanged during the follow-up, but a significant number of discs went from Grade 2 to Grade 3 and from Grade 3 to Grade 4 by Pfirrmann (P < 0.001). Clinical scores (VAS neck, VAS arm, NDI) had no correlation with MRI changes (P > 0.05). DD was associated with TEPS (odds ratio [OR] 2.05-5.47, P < 0.05) and patients' age (OR 1.11-2.33, P < 0.05) at all cervical levels; with MC types, but only at C4-C5 and C6-C7 levels (OR = 2.91 and 2.79, respectively, P < 0.05). Receiver-operating characteristic analysis showed a TEPS threshold value of 7, above which the probability of DD significantly higher. CONCLUSION During 2 years' follow-up the significant increase of DD grades by Pfirrmann was observed at C4-C6 levels (P < 0.001). A significant association DD with TEPS and age at all cervical levels was determined.Level of Evidence: 3.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Most degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) patients primitively received the conservative treatment to control symptoms. In order to develop an optimal surgical treatment strategy, it is very significant to understand how the degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DS) affects the effect of decompression in the DLSS. Thus, the aim of this current study was to explore whether the concomitant DS would affect the effect of decompression alone in the patients with DLSS. METHODS The current study was carried out at our hospital and it was approved through our institutional review committee of General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. During the period from January 2015 to December 2017, in our study, we identified consecutive patients who received the minimally invasive laminectomy to treat the DLSS. The inclusion criterion included radicular leg pain or neurogenic claudication with the neurological symptoms associated with DLSS syndrome, magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine reveals at least 1 level of serious stenosis, the conservative treatment failed for at least 3 months, and patients agreed to provide the postoperative details. The major outcomes of this present research was Oswestry Disability Index. Secondary outcomes of this current study involved visual analog score, short form-36, surgical revision rate as well as complications. RESULTS We assumed that previous DS possessed a negative effect on the postoperative results of the DLSS patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION researchregistry5943.
