Abstract
BACKGROUND Social frailty is a holistic concept encompassing various social determinants of health. Considering its importance and impact on health-related outcomes in older adults, the present study was conducted to cross-culturally adapt and psychometrically evaluate the Social Frailty Scale in Iranian older adults in 2023. METHODS This was a methodological study. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Social Frailty Scale 8-item (SFS-8) was conducted according to Wild's guideline. Content and face validity were assessed using qualitative and quantitative methods. Then, 250 older adults covered by comprehensive health centers were selected using multistage random sampling. Participants completed the demographic questionnaire, the Abbreviated Mental Test score, the SFS-8, and the Lubben Social Network Scale. Construct validity was assessed by principal component analysis (PCA) and known-group comparisons. The Mann‒Whitney U test was used to compare social frailty scores between the isolated and non-isolated older adults. Internal consistency, equivalence, and stability were assessed using the Kuder-Richardson method, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), the standard error of measurement (SEM), and the minimum detectable change (MDC). The ceiling and floor effects were also assessed. The data were analyzed using JASP 0.17.3. RESULTS The ratio and index of content validity and the modified kappa coefficient of all the items were 1.00. The impact score of the items was greater than 4.6. PCA identified the scale as a single component by removing two questions that could explain 52.9% of the total variance in the scale score. The Persian version of the Social Frailty Scale could distinguish between isolated and non-isolated older adults (p < 0.001). The Kuder-Richardson coefficient, ICC, SEM, and MDC were 0.606, 0.904, 0.129, and 0.358, respectively. The relative frequencies of the minimum and maximum scores obtained from the scale were 34.8 and 1.2, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The Persian version of the Social Frailty Scale (P-SFS) can be used as a valid and reliable scale to assess social frailty in Iranian older adults.

Abstract
Background Frailty is a significant healthcare challenge worldwide, increasing interest in developing more assessment tools covering for frailty. Recently, there has been a growing awareness of a correlation between social variables and frailty in older people. However, there is a lack of understanding of the social domains of frailty and the related adverse outcomes, particularly in the Asia-Pacific settings. This study aimed to characterize the social frailty domains and their health outcomes by overviewing the frailty screening tools in older people living in the Asia-Pacific region. Methodology A systematic review, using the PRISMA guideline, was conducted on articles published between 2002 and 2023 from three electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect. A manual search was conducted for the references of the included articles using Google Scholar. Included articles must be in English and were based on empirical evidence published in peer-reviewed journals and focus on the assessment of domains of social frailty in older people aged 60 or over in the Asia-Pacific (East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania). Result A total of 31 studies were included in the thematic analysis, from which 16 screening tools measuring six social domains were reviewed. The six domains were: social networks, followed by social activities, social support, financial difficulties, social roles, and socioeconomic, arranged in four categories: social resources, social needs, social behaviors (or social activities), and general resources. The six social domains predicted mortality, physical difficulties, and disability incidence. Other adverse health outcomes were also associated with these social domains, including cognitive disorders, mental illness, and nutritional disorders (n = 5 domains each), dementia (n = 4 domains), and oral frailty, hearing loss, obesity, and chronic pain (n = 3 domains each). Conclusion Overall, social frailty is a complex construct with multiple dimensions, including the frailty of social and general resources, social behaviors, and social needs, leading to several health disorders. The findings contribute to understanding the conceptual framework of social frailty in older people and its related health outcomes. Therefore, it could facilitate professionals and researchers to monitor and reduce the risks of adverse health outcomes related to each domain of social frailty, contributing to a better aging process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobility within and between life spaces is fundamental for health and well-being. Our objective was to verify a comprehensive framework for mobility. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study. We used structural equation modeling to estimate associations between latent factors with data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging for participants 65-85 years of age (65+, n = 11,667) and for adults with osteoarthritis (OA) aged 45-85 (n = 5,560). Latent factors included life space mobility, and physical, psychosocial, environmental, financial, and cognitive elements. Personal variables (age, sex, education) were covariates. RESULTS The models demonstrated good fit (65+: CFI = 0.90, RMSEA (90% CI) = 0.025 (0.024, 0.026); OA: CFI = 0.90, RMSEA (90% CI) = 0.032 (0.031, 0.033)). In both models, better psychosocial and physical health, and being less afraid to walk after dark (observed environmental variable) were associated with greater life space mobility. Greater financial status was associated with better psychosocial and physical health. Higher education was related to better cognition and finances. Older age was associated with lower financial status, cognition, and physical health. Cognitive health was positively associated with greater mobility only in the 65 + model. Models generated were equivalent for males and females. CONCLUSIONS Associations between determinants described in the mobility framework were verified with adults 65-85 years of age and in an OA group when all factors were considered together using SEM. These results have implications for clinicians and researchers in terms of important outcomes when assessing life space mobility; findings support interdisciplinary analyses that include evaluation of cognition, depression, anxiety, environmental factors, and community engagement, as well as physical and financial health. Public policies that influence older adults and their abilities to access communities beyond their homes need to reflect the complexity of factors that influence life space mobility at both individual and societal levels.

Abstract
Frailty is a complex and multisystem biological process characterized by reductions in physiological reserve. It is an increasingly common phenomena in the surgical population, and significantly impacts postoperative recovery. In this review, we will discuss the pathophysiology of frailty, as well as preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative considerations for frailty care. We will also discuss the different models of postoperative care, including enhanced recovery pathways, as well as elective critical care admission. With discoveries of new effective interventions, and advances in healthcare information technology, optimized pathways could be developed to provide the best care possible that meets the challenges of perioperative frailty.

Abstract
Introduction Geriatric syndrome (GS) increases risk of disability and mortality in older adults. Sarcopenia is a predominant illness of GS and accelerate its progression. This study aimed to investigate associations between mortality, emergency department (ED) re-visits and GS-related illnesses among older adults who visited the ED. Method This retrospective observational study enrolled elderly patients who visited the ED in our hospital between January 2018 and October 2020. Patients were evaluated for potential sarcopenia, which was defined by both low handgrip strength and calf circumference. Follow-up was at least 6 months. Data of age, gender, mortality, ED re-visits, and GS-related illnesses were collected and analyzed for associations. Results A total of 273 older adults aged 74 years or older were included, of whom 194 were diagnosed with possible sarcopenia. Older adults with possible sarcopenia also had significantly lower body mass index (BMI); a higher proportion needed assistance with daily activities; more had malnutrition, frailty, and history of falls (all p < 0.001) and acute decline in activities of daily living (p = 0.027). Multivariate analysis showed that possible sarcopenia [adjusted hazard ratio, aHR): 9.89, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.17-83.81, p = 0.036], living in residential institutions (aHR: 2.85, 95% CI: 1.08-7.50, p = 0.034), and frailty (aHR: 7.30, 95% CI: 1.20-44.62, p = 0.031) were associated with mortality. Aged over 85 years (adjusted odds ratio: 2.44, 95% CI: 1.25-4.80, p = 0.02) was associated with ED re-visits. Conclusion Sarcopenia is associated with mortality among older adults who visit ED. Initial screening for sarcopenia and relevant risk factors among older adults in the ED may help with early intervention for those at high-risk and may improve their prognosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE The number and proportion of older adults, aged ≥ 60 years, in Singapore is rapidly increasing. A valid and reliable quality of life (QoL) measure will enable assessment of their situation and help evaluate social and clinical interventions, potentially improving care. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the control, autonomy, self-realization, and pleasure (CASP)-12v.3 QoL scale and establish a scale suitable for use among older adults in Singapore. METHODS Data from 3526 community-dwelling older adults from a national survey was used. Measurement properties of the CASP-12v.3 scale were evaluated. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; testing single- and two-factor models with residual covariances for negatively worded items and a bifactor model) was performed in half of the sample and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed in the other half. The results led to revised CFA models and the CASP-11-SG scale. The CASP-11-SG scale's measurement properties, convergent, and known-groups validity, and measurement equivalence/invariance (ME/I) across English and Chinese languages were evaluated. RESULTS Item 3 'I feel free to plan for the future' of the CASP-12v.3 scale had low correlation with other items of the control/autonomy subscale, low item-total correlation and high item-scale correlation. While CFA and EFA supported the two-factor model, removing item 3 improved model fit. The resulting CASP-11-SG scale (Cronbach's alpha: 0.81) demonstrated convergent and known-groups validity and partial ME/I across English and Chinese languages. CONCLUSION The CASP-11-SG scale, with satisfactory psychometric properties, can be used for assessing QoL among older adults in Singapore.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Social frailty is a common condition in older people, but its consequences are largely unknown. Therefore, in this longitudinal analysis, we aimed to investigate the association between social frailty and risk of all-cause mortality in a large sample of older people. DESIGN Longitudinal, cohort. SETTINGS AND PARTICIPANTS Older people participating to the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). METHODS Social frailty was defined based on financial difficulty, household status, social activity, and contacts with other people: social frailty was defined as ≥2 points, social pre-frailty (1 point), and robustness (0 points). Survival status during ten years of follow-up was assessed using administrative data. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI) of the association between social frailty status and all-cause mortality. RESULTS At baseline, compared to social robust participants, social frail subjects reported a significant higher presence of potential risk factors for all-cause mortality. During the ten years of follow-up, after adjusting for 10 potential confounders, social frailty at baseline (vs. robustness) was associated with a significantly higher risk of death (HR = 1.31; 95 % CI: 1.04-1.64; p = 0.02), whilst social pre-frail was not. Among the single factors contributing to social frailty, poverty increased the risk of all-cause mortality by approximately 60 % (HR = 1.60; 95 % CI: 1.33-1.93; p < 0.0001) as well as living alone (HR = 1.46; 95 % CI: 1.10-1.94; p = 0.009). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Social frailty was significantly associated with all-cause mortality in a large cohort of older people, highlighting the importance of identifying this phenomenon in older adults to inform targeted intervention efforts.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to identify the influence of combined cognitive impairment and social frailty on physical frailty. METHODS This study analyzed secondary data from the 2020 National Survey of Older Koreans, which was collected nationwide from community-dwelling individuals aged ≥ 65 years. RESULTS Combined cognitive impairment and social frailty (odds ratio (OR) =4.44, 95% confidence interval (CI)=3.14-6.28), cognitive impairment and social pre-frailty (OR =2.38, 95% CI =1.70-3.34), noncognitive impairment and social frailty (OR =2.16, 95% CI =1.54-3.04), and noncognitive impairment and social pre-frailty (OR =1.40, 95% CI =1.02-1.91) groups were more likely to be physically frail than noncognitive impairment and socially robust groups after adjusting for sociodemographic and health-related factors. CONCLUSION Healthcare providers need to be aware that older adults who suffer from both cognitive impairment and social frailty may be vulnerable to physical frailty.
