Abstract
Introduction Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) are prevalent disorders, primarily encompassing Graves' disease (GD) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). Despite their common occurrence, the etiology of AITDs remains elusive. Th9 cells, a new subset of CD4+T cells with immunomodulatory properties, have been linked to the development of various autoimmune diseases. However, research on the role of Th9 cells in AITDs is limited. Methods We investigated the expression of Th9 cells,their functional cytokine IL-9, and transcription factor IRF4 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and plasma of AITD patients and healthy controls. Additionally, we explored the genetic association between four loci polymorphisms (rs31564, rs2069879, rs1859430, and rs2069868) of the IL-9 gene and AITDs. Results We reported, for the first time, that refractory GD patients exhibited elevated mRNA levels of IL-9 and IRF4 in PBMCs, increased IL-9 protein levels in plasma, and a higher proportion of Th9 cells in peripheral blood when compared to normal controls. Furthermore, human recombinant IL-9 protein was found to enhance IFN-g secretion in PBMCs from both GD patients and normal controls. At the genetic association level, after adjusting for age and sex, the rs2069879 polymorphism exhibited a significant association with AITDs under an additive model (P<0.001, OR= 0.05, 95% CI=0.03-0.08). Discussion Our results reveal that Th9 cells may exert a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and progression of refractory GD and HT, and IL-9 holds promise as a novel therapeutic target for the management of AITDs.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between thyroid autoimmunity and bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to further explore the influence of thyroid autoimmunity on diabetic osteoporosis. METHODS A total of 601 T2DM patients were included and divided into two groups according to thyroid autoantibodies, namely thyroid autoimmunity positive group (TPOAb+ or TGAb + ) and thyroid autoimmunity negative group (TPOAb- and TGAb-). Clinical data were collected and BMD was determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). SPSS26.0 software was used to data analysis. Model regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of BMD, and ROC curve was used to analyze the optimal cut-off point of thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) for screening osteoporosis. RESULTS TPOAb and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) were negatively correlated with BMD and T-score (LS, FN and WB) (P < 0.01), and TGAb was negatively correlated with 25(OH)D (P < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that TPOAb was an independent influence factor on LS, FN and WB BMD. ROC curve analysis showed that the optimal threshold of TPOAb for predicting osteoporosis was 12.35. CONCLUSIONS In T2DM patients, TPOAb and TGAb levels are negatively correlated with LS, FN and WB BMD, and TPOAb is an independent influencing factor for diabetic osteoporosis, and TPOAb has a certain predictive value for the occurrence and development of diabetic osteoporosis clinically.

Abstract
Background Vitiligo and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) are concomitant autoimmune diseases characterized by the destruction of melanocytes or thyrocytes. We aimed to explore the immunological mechanism of this comorbidity and screen their potential biomarkers. Methods We downloaded the microarray datasets from the GEO database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and immune-related genes (IRGs) were selected. The immune-related differentially expressed genes (IRDEGs) were obtained by taking the intersection. Candidate biomarkers were elected by Cytoscape software. CIBERSORT was used to depict immune cell infiltration prospects. Correlation analysis was conducted between infiltrating cells and several indicators. The results were validated by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Results Three datasets and 60 IRDEGs were obtained in total. Pathway enrichment analysis showed that the T cell receptor signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, receptor-ligand activity, and signaling receptor activator activity were significantly enriched. We screened out four hub genes, including IFNG, STAT1, IL1B, and CXCL10. The ROC curve indicated the highest diagnostic value of CXCL10 in both vitiligo and HT. Immuno-infiltration analysis revealed significant changes in T cell subsets and macrophage subtypes, which were correlated with four hub genes, melanocyte markers, and thyroid-specific antigens. qPCR validated the hub genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with comorbidity. Conclusion IFNG, STAT1, IL1B, and CXCL10, were the key IRDEGs to vitiligo and HT. These genes may participate in the comorbidity by remodeling the immune cell infiltration pattern, and cross-expressed antigens may mediate the common damage of melanocytes and thyroid tissues.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Interleukins (IL)-23, 31, and 33 are involved in the regulation of T helper 17 (Th17)/regulatory T (Treg) cells balance. The role of IL-23, 31 and 33 in non-endocrine autoimmune diseases has been confirmed. Data on the involvement of these cytokines in endocrine autoimmune diseases are limited. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the involvement of cytokines regulating the T helper 17 (Th17)/regulatory T (Treg) cells axis in the course of autoimmune endocrine diseases. METHODS A total number of 80 participants were divided into 4 groups: the autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome (APS) group consisting of APS type 2 (APS-2) and type 3 (APS-3) subgroups, the Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) group, the Graves' disease (GD) group and the control (C) group. Fifteen cytokines related to Th17 and Treg lymphocytes were determined in the serum of all participants. RESULTS Higher levels of IL-23 and IL-31 were found in the APS, GD, and HT groups compared to the C group. Higher levels of IL-23 and IL-31 were also observed in the APS-2 group, in contrast to the APS-3 group. Correlation analysis of variables in the groups showed a statistically significant correlation between the cytokines IL-23, IL-31, and IL-33 in the APS and APS-2 groups, but no correlation in the APS-3 and C groups. CONCLUSION IL-23 and IL-31 are independent factors in the course of HT, GD, and APS-2, in contrast to APS-3. The positive correlation between IL-23 and IL-31, IL-23 and IL-33, and between IL-31 and IL-33 in the APS, APS-2 groups, but the lack of correlation in the APS-3 and C groups may further suggest the involvement of these cytokines in the course of Addison's disease.

Abstract
The effects of specific cytokines produced by T cell subsets (such as Th1, Th2, and newly discovered Th17, Treg, Tfh, or Th22) are diverse, depending on interactions with other cytokines, distinct signaling pathways, phase of the disease, or etiological factor. The immunity equilibrium of the immune cells, such as the Th1/Th2, the Th17/Treg, and the Th17/Th1 balance is necessary for the maintenance of the immune homeostasis. If the balance of the T cells subsets is damaged, the autoimmune response becomes enhanced which leads to autoimmune diseases. Indeed, both the Th1/Th2 and the Th17/Treg dichotomies are involved in the pathomechanism of autoimmune diseases. The aim of the study was to determine the cytokines of Th17 lymphocytes as well as the factors modulating their activity in patients with pernicious anemia. The magnetic bead-based immunoassays used (Bio-Plex) allow simultaneous detection of multiple immune mediators from one serum sample. In our study, we showed that patients suffering from pernicious anemia develop the Th1/Th2 imbalance with a quantitative advantage of cytokines participating in Th1-related immune response, the Th17/Treg imbalance with a quantitative advantage of cytokines participating in Treg-related response, as well as the Th17/Th1 imbalance with a quantitative predominance of cytokines participating in Th1-related immune response. Our study results indicate that T lymphocytes and their specific cytokines play an role in the course of pernicious anemia. The observed changes may indicate the immune response to pernicious anemia or be an element of the pernicious anemia pathomechanism.

Abstract
This systematic review aims to summarise the results of controlled trials on dietary supplements (DS) usage and inflammation, oxidative stress, antioxidant status, and thyroid parameter improvement in hypothyroidism (HT)/Hashimoto's thyroiditis (AIT) patients. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO (no. CRD42022365149). A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases resulted in the identification of nineteen randomised controlled trials and three non-randomised studies for the review; three studies examined the effect of supplementation with vitamin D, twelve studies-with selenium, and seven studies-with other DS. Based on very limited evidence, the lack of influence of vitamin D supplementation on inflammatory parameters was found, while no studies have examined oxidative stress and antioxidant status parameters, and only one provided results for a single thyroid parameter after an intervention. Some evidence was found proving that selenium supplementation may decrease inflammation and improve thyroid parameters, but reaching a conclusion about its influence on oxidative stress and antioxidant status is not possible because of the insufficient number of studies. Additionally, due to examining other DS (e.g., multicomponent, Nigella sativa, and genistein) only in single studies, conclusions cannot be drawn. Further long-term, high-quality randomised controlled trials are necessary to better understand the influence of DS on inflammation, oxidative stress, and antioxidant status, as well as their potential to improve thyroid gland function in HT/AIT patients.

Abstract
The role of HPV in the survival prognosis of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, especially patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC), is still somewhat ambiguous. The present study aimed to explore the significance of tumor suppressor proteins and HPV16 E6 and E7 oncoproteins in the assessment of survival in patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), LSCC, and HPSCC associated with high-risk (HR-) and low-risk (LR-) HPV infections. By utilizing molecular and immunohistochemical investigations of HNSCC samples and patient data, univariate and multivariate survival analyses were conducted. The presence of HPV DNA (LR- and HR-HPV) was associated with a better 5-year OS and DSS for OPSCC and LSCC. The IHC overexpression of HPV16 E6 protein and p16 protein was associated with better survival in the univariate (for OPSCC) and multivariate (OPSCC and HPSCC) survival analyses. The overexpression of p53 was associated with better survival in OPSCC. HPV infection plays a significant role in the tumorigenesis of HNSCC, and the immunohistochemical assessment of HPV16 E6 protein expression should be interpreted as a useful prognostic marker for OPSCC and HPSCC.

Abstract
Bone marrow contains resident cellular components that are not only involved in bone maintenance but also regulate hematopoiesis and immune responses. The immune system and bone interact with each other, coined osteoimmunology. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common chronic autoimmune diseases which is accompanied by lymphocytic infiltration. It shows elevating thyroid autoantibody levels at an early stage and progresses to thyroid dysfunction ultimately. Different effects exert on bone metabolism during different phases of HT. In this review, we summarized the mechanisms of the long-term effects of HT on bone and the relationship between thyroid autoimmunity and osteoimmunology. For patients with HT, the bone is affected not only by thyroid function and the value of TSH, but also by the setting of the autoimmune background. The autoimmune background implies a breakdown of the mechanisms that control self-reactive system, featuring abnormal immune activation and presence of autoantibodies. The etiology of thyroid autoimmunity and osteoimmunology is complex and involves a number of immune cells, cytokines and chemokines, which regulate the pathogenesis of HT and osteoporosis at the same time, and have potential to affect each other. In addition, vitamin D works as a potent immunomodulator to influence both thyroid immunity and osteoimmunology. We conclude that HT affects bone metabolism at least through endocrine and immune pathways.

Abstract
Autoimmune thyroid disease, encompassing Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, has a very complex etiology. Pathogenesis of the disease involves both genetic susceptibility and environmental triggers. Traditionally, imbalance of T helper cell 1 and 2 was thought to result in the immune disorders in Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. However, increasing evidence recently revealed the important role of T helper 17 cell and its relative cellular and secretory components in the pathogenesis and progression of autoimmune thyroid disease. This review is aimed to summarize the published studies on the involvement of T helper 17 cell in autoimmune thyroid disease and discuss the underlying regulatory mechanisms, which could possibly serve as the foundation of discovering new therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), including Graves' disease (GD) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), occurs due to genetic susceptibility and environmental factors, among which the role of stressful events remains controversial. This study investigated the relationship between the number and impact of stressful life events in AITD patients with selenium status, and the Th1/Th2/Th17 immune response. The study population included three groups: HT (n = 47), GD (n = 13), and a control group (n = 49). Thyroid function parameters, autoantibody levels, and the plasma levels of cytokines, selenium, selenoprotein P (SeP), and glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPx) activity were measured. Participants filled out the Life Experiences Survey. No significant differences in the number of stressful life events were found among the patients with HT, GD, and the controls. A higher (median (interquartile range)) negative stress level (8 (4-12)) than a positive stress level (3 (1-9)) was found in the HT group. The HT group showed a correlation between SeP and the positive stress level: rs = -0.296, p = 0.048, and the GD group between GPx and the negative stress level (rs = -0.702, p = 0.011). Significant positive correlations between thyroid peroxidase antibody level and the total number of major life events (p = 0.023), the number of major life events in the last 7-12 months, and the number of major life events with no impact and a negative stress level were found. We suggest that the measurements of Th2-related cytokines and selenoproteins could be used as biomarkers for the development of AITD in cases where stress is considered a component cause of the pathogenic mechanism of the disease.

Abstract
This article aims to explore associated immune indicators of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) through a meta-analysis of published case-control studies on newly diagnosed AITD patients, intending to provide some suggestions for research on the mechanisms of AITD. Six electronic databases were searched for case-control studies on newly diagnosed AITD patients from inception to August 15, 2022. A random-effects model was used to calculate the standardized mean difference (SMD), odds ratio (OR), and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). A total of 26 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Patients with newly diagnosed AITD had higher levels of helper T cell 17 (Th17) (Hashimoto's disease (HT): SMD=2.35, 95% CI: 1.98, 2.72; Graves' disease (GD): SMD=1.61, 95% CI: 1.23, 1.98), lower levels of regulatory T cell (Treg) (HT: SMD=-2.04, 95% CI: -2.67, -1.42; GD: SMD=-1.35, 95% CI: -2.11, -0.58), and lower levels of forkhead box P3 (FoxP3) mRNA (HT: SMD=-2.58, 95% CI: -3.12, -2.05; GD: SMD=-2.13, 95% CI: -2.56, -1.70), compared to the healthy population. In addition, the single nucleotide polymorphism rs3761548 and rs3761549 in the promoter region of FoxP3 showed a higher frequency in the comparison of genotype "CT" only in HT patients than in the healthy population (OR=1.66, 95%CI: 1.18, 2.34). In patients with newly diagnosed AITD, the Th17/Treg ratio imbalance may develop AITD. Monitoring Th17 and Treg levels may become an essential tool to assess the organism's immune homeostasis and hopefully guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
IL-17 and other cytokines have a number of immunomodulatory effects on thyroid cells. The present study investigated the changes and correlations amongst IL-17, NF-κB, IL-6, IL-10, interferon-γ (IFN-γ), TNF-α, IL-2 and IL-4 in patients with different autoimmune thyroid diseases in order to further clarify the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid disease. A total of 82 patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases (41 with Graves' disease and 41 with Hashimoto's thyroiditis) and 53 healthy controls were enrolled. All relevant thyroid hormones were detected by electrochemiluminescence analyzer. The serum levels of IL-17 and other cytokines were detected using flow cytometry, NF-κB was detected by ELISA, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR was used to detect the protein expression of various mRNAs, and the correlations between IL-17 and these factors were analyzed. Significant differences occurred amongst all groups. NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-17 and their mRNA levels were significantly higher in the healthy controls compared with those in the patients; whereas IFN-γ and IL-10 levels were significantly lower in the healthy controls compared with those in the patients . Correlation analysis showed that the expression levels of IL-17 and its mRNA were significantly positively correlated with the expression levels of NF-κB, IL-6, thyroid peroxidase antibody, thyroid gland globulin, thyroglobulin antibody, TNF-α and IFN-γ, and were also significantly negatively correlated with IL-10 . These findings suggested that IL-17 was elevated in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease and that IL-17 could activate the NF-κB signaling pathway, stimulate the production and release of inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-6 and IFN-γ and participate in the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid injury.

Abstract
The link between autoimmune thyroid diseases and reproductive failures, including implantation failure and pregnancy loss, has been attracted a great deal of attention in the last two decades. In this regard, a considerable progress has been achieved in understanding the etiopathogenesis of the adverse pregnancy consequences related to the presence of anti-thyroid antibodies, however, the exact action mechanisms of these antibodies are not fully comprehended. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAbs), thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAbs) and TSH receptor antibodies (TRAbs) are the anti-thyroid antibodies which are present in autoimmune thyroid disorder (AITD) patients, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In this condition, the thyroid hormones production, which are essential for normal implantation and pregnancy, are disrupted, and compromise the embryo or fetus development. In addition, a hypothesis suggests that there is underlying generalized immune abnormalities behind the presence of these antibodies. On the other hand, similar immunologic aberrations have been observed in thyroid autoimmunity and reproductive complications, which are postulated to be the proper answer for the scientists who seek for the pathophysiology behind the presence of these antibodies. Elevated inflammatory responses and decreased immunoregulatory actions, seem to be the main interfering pathologic factors in maternal tolerance toward fetus. In addition, cross reactivity of these antibodies with antigenic determinants of egg, embryo and placenta is another suggested mechanism, causing implantation and pregnancy complications. The ability of anti-thyroid antibodies in passing through the placental barrier and affecting the fetal thyroid gland, makes them more threatening for maintenance of a pregnancy.

Abstract
Objective Graves’ disease (GD) is an organ-specific autoimmune disease characterized by the production of thyroid-stimulating antibodies (TSAb). The newly discovered CD4+ T helper cells, Th9 and Th17 lymphocytes, have been confirmed to be closely associated with a variety of immune diseases. However, relationships with the onset and development of GD remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the roles of Th9 and Th17 in the pathogenesis and prognosis of GD. Patients We recruited 26 patients with newly diagnosed GD, 45 patients with GD in remission, and 20 healthy individuals. Measurements Thyroid function and autoantibodies were evaluated using chemiluminescence immunoassays. Th9 and Th17 cells were analyzed using flow cytometry. The expression of Foxo1, IRF-4, RORc, IL-9, and IL-17 mRNA was examined using real-time PCR, and IL-9 and IL-17 protein levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results Th9, Th17, and characteristic cytokines IL-9 and IL-17 in the GD-untreated group were significantly higher than those in the control and remission groups. The above indexes significantly decreased in the remission group, with the levels in the TRAb− remission group being similar to those in the normal group, while in the TRAb+ remission group, levels were differentially increased. TRAb titer was positively correlated with the levels of Th9, Th17, and their functional cytokines. Conclusions Th9 and Th17 cells may be involved in the pathogenesis and disease outcome of GD, which could provide a new direction for developing immunotherapy for patients with GD.

Abstract
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration and thyrocyte destruction. Dissection of the interaction between the thyroidal stromal microenvironment and the infiltrating immune cells might lead to a better understanding of HT pathogenesis. Here we show, using single-cell RNA-sequencing, that three thyroidal stromal cell subsets, ACKR1+ endothelial cells and CCL21+ myofibroblasts and CCL21+ fibroblasts, contribute to the thyroidal tissue microenvironment in HT. These cell types occupy distinct histological locations within the thyroid gland. Our experiments suggest that they might facilitate lymphocyte trafficking from the blood to thyroid tissues, and T cell zone CCL21+ fibroblasts may also promote the formation of tertiary lymphoid organs characteristic to HT. Our study also demonstrates the presence of inflammatory macrophages and dendritic cells expressing high levels of IL-1β in the thyroid, which may contribute to thyrocyte destruction in HT patients. Our findings thus provide a deeper insight into the cellular interactions that might prompt the pathogenesis of HT.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) was proven to play a significant role in cancer development in the oropharynx. However, its role in the development of laryngeal (LSCC) and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC) remains to be clarified. High-risk HPV (HR-HPV) viral proteins E6 and E7 are considered to be pertinent to HPV-related carcinogenesis. Hence, our aim was to estimate LSCC and HPSCC for HR-HPV DNA, p16, and E6/E7 oncoprotein status by using molecular virology and immunohistochemistry methods. The prevalence of HPV16 infection was 22/41 (53.7%) and 20/31 (64.5%) for LSCC and HPSCC, accordingly. The majority of HPV16+ tumor samples were stage III or IV. In most samples, the presence of either HPV16 E6 or HPV16 E7 viral protein in dysplastic or tumor cells was confirmed using immunohistochemistry. Our results suggest a high prevalence of HPV16 as a primary HR-HPV type in LSCC and HPSCC. The lack of HPV E6/E7 oncoproteins in some tumor samples may suggest either the absence of viral integration or the presence of other mechanisms of tumorigenesis. The utilization of p16 IHC as a surrogate marker of HR-HPV infection is impractical in LSCC and HPSCC.

Abstract
Introduction The contribution of Th17 cytokines to autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) is generally accepted. However, the roles of Th17 cells in the initiation and progression of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and Graves' disease (GD) remain unclear. Selenium deficiency, along with genetic predisposition and environmental factors, may have a role in thyroid autoimmunity. Aim We aimed to assess (1) the Th17 immune response by measuring plasma levels of Th17‐ and Treg‐associated cytokines and (2) the selenium status in treatment‐naïve Latvian patients with newly diagnosed GD or HT. Methods Eleven GD patients, 41 HT patients, and 26 healthy subjects were recruited for this study. Plasma levels of IL‐17a, IL‐22, IL‐23, IL‐6, and IL‐10 were detected by xMAP technology, while selenium was detected fluorometrically. Results and Conclusions No significant differences in IL‐17a, IL‐22, IL‐23, IL‐6, or IL‐10 levels were found among the HT patients, GD patients, and controls. In the HT patients, IL‐17a levels were positively correlated with IL‐22, IL‐23, IL‐6, and IL‐10, while IL‐22 was correlated with IL‐6, IL‐23, and IL‐10. In the GD patients, IL‐17a levels were positively correlated with IL‐22, IL‐23, and IL‐10; IL‐22 was positively correlated with IL‐23, IL‐6, and IL‐10; FT3 was positively correlated with IL‐17a, IL‐23, and IL‐10; and FT4 was positively correlated with IL‐17a and IL‐10 levels. Plasma selenium levels were negatively correlated with antithyroid peroxidase antibody titers in the HT patients. Although no difference in selenium levels was observed between the AITD patients and controls, the selenium status of the Latvian patients with GD or HT was at a suboptimal level.

Abstract
The human gut microbiota is a diverse and complex ecosystem that is involved in beneficial physiological functions as well as disease pathogenesis. Blastocystis is a common protistan parasite and is increasingly recognized as an important component of the gut microbiota. The correlations between Blastocystis and other communities of intestinal microbiota have been investigated, and, to a lesser extent, the role of this parasite in maintaining the host immunological homeostasis. Despite recent studies suggesting that Blastocystis decreases the abundance of beneficial bacteria, most reports indicate that Blastocystis is a common component of the healthy gut microbiome. This review covers recent finding on the potential interactions between Blastocystis and the gut microbiota communities and its roles in regulating host immune responses.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of vitamin D deficiency on the levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO-Ab), interleukin-1 (IL-1) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in pregnant women with early pregnancy complicated by subclinical hypothyroidism. Methods: A total of 172 pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism in the first trimester diagnosed and treated in a given hospital from August 2014 to May 2018 were selected, and their levels of vitamin D were determined. Depending on the abnormality of their vitamin D levels, the study participants were divided into two groups: the study group (vitamin D≤20 ng/L) and the control group (vitamin D>20 ng/L). The levels of TSH, TPO-Ab, IL-1 and hsCRP in the two groups were measured. Results: The levels of TSH, hsCRP and TPO-Ab in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The comparison between the two groups in terms of IL-1 showed no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency in the first trimester is associated with in an increased level of TSH in the first trimester, thereby aggravating subclinical hypothyroidism. The mechanism may be associated with the impact of vitamin D deficiency on hs-CRP and other body inflammation indicators, as well as on thyroid autoantibodies and other immune indicators, but has no effect on IL-1 levels.

Abstract
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most prevalent autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) worldwide and is strongly associated with miscarriage and even recurrent miscarriage (RM). Moreover, with a deepening understanding, emerging evidence has shown that immune dysfunctions caused by HT conditions, including imbalanced subsets of CD4+ T-helper cells, B regulatory (Breg) cells, high expression levels of CD56dim natural killer (NK) cells, and cytokines, possibly play an important role in impairing maternal tolerance to the fetus. In recent years, unprecedented progress has been made in recognizing the specific changes in immune cells and molecules in patients with HT, which will be helpful in exploring the mechanism of HT-related miscarriage. Based on these findings, research investigating some potentially more effective treatments, such as selenium (Se), vitamin D3, and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), has been well developed over the past few years. In this review, we highlight some of the latest advances in the possible immunological pathogenesis of HT-related miscarriage and focus on the efficacies of treatments that have been widely introduced to clinical trials or practice described in the most recent literature.

Abstract
Recently, abnormal expression of interleukin-32 (IL-32) has been involved in various inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, but the level of IL-32 expression in Graves' disease (GD) is still unknown. This study is aimed to explore the human IL-32 expression in GD and the association of IL-32 expression with the disease activity of GD. A total of 125 GD patients and 97 normal controls (NC) were recruited in this study. We examined IL-32 mRNA level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 43 GD patients and 41 controls using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Serum IL-32 level of 40 GD patients and 34 controls was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In another cohort including 42 GD patients and 22 controls, we detected the percentages of IL-32α+ cells, CD4+IL-32α+T cells, and CD4-IL-32α+ cells in PBMCs by flow cytometry. In GD patients, IL-32 mRNA expression was dramatically higher than that in controls (P < 0.001) and positively associated with FT3 (P = 0.036, r = 0.321). Subgroup analysis revealed that IL-32 mRNA level was elevated in both newly onset GD and refractory GD group (P < 0.01, P < 0.001, respectively) compared with controls. Furthermore, in refractory GD group, the IL-32 mRNA expression also positively correlated with FT3 (P = 0.019, r = 0.560). In addition, serum IL-32 level was notably higher in GD patients than that of controls (P < 0.01). Subgroup analysis also indicated that serum IL-32 level in both newly onset GD and refractory GD group was higher in comparison with controls (P = 0.015, P = 0.023, respectively) and serum IL-32 level in refractory GD patients positively correlated with TRAb (P = 0.043, r = 0.481). The percentages of IL-32α+ cells, CD4+IL-32α+ T cells, and CD4-IL-32α+ cells were all significantly enhanced in GD patients compared with controls (P = 0.005, P = 0.017, P = 0.016, respectively). IL-32 and IL-32α+ cells may be associated with the pathogenesis of GD. IL-32 may become a promising target for the treatment of GD.
