Abstract
Abstract
Ichthyofauna surveys in Diyung, Vomvadung, Khualzangvadung, Tuikoi, and Mahur rivers under Dima Hasao District of Assam resulted in the first report of 21 species of fish belonging to 19 genera, eight families, and four orders. These include Cypriniformes, Siluriformes, Synbranchiformes, and Perciformes. The species composition is highest in Vomvadung River with 11 species, followed by Diyung with eight species, Khualzangvadung with six species, Mohur with three species, and Tuikoi with two species. The conservation status of Systomus clavatus, Tor tor, Neolissochilus hexagonolepis, Neolissochilus hexastichus is near threatened, and Pterocryptis barakensis is endangered.

A Recent Taxonomic Study of the Fish from the Jinam River in Dima Hasao Biodiversity Hotspot Region of Assam (India). TRANSYLVANIAN REVIEW OF SYSTEMATICAL AND ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH 2021. [DOI: 10.2478/trser-2020-0013] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/20/2022] Open
Abstract
Abstract
The Jinam River habitats inventory revealed the presence of alluvial valley, cascades, riffle-pools, boulders, cobbles, and gravel as types of substrata. The limnological parameters portrayed average values of air and water temperature, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon di-oxide, total alkalinity, and conductivity.
This recent pioneering study on the fish of the Jinam River in the Dima Hasao District of Assam revealed the presence of 18 species belonging to 15 genera, five families, and three orders, which are reported for the first time through this paper. Worth highlighting is the abundance of Barilius bendelisis and Devario aequipinnatus, and the fewer numbers of Chanda nama, these warranting proper management and conservation of the fish for this river.

A Return to the Ghanaian Cultural Values of Closed Fishing Season in Ghana’s Artisanal Marine Fishing: An Essential Means of Restoring Small Pelagic Fish Stocks. TRANSYLVANIAN REVIEW OF SYSTEMATICAL AND ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH 2020. [DOI: 10.2478/trser-2019-0020] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.6] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/20/2022] Open
Abstract
Abstract
Closed fishing season for artisanal and inshore fishing is an effective management measure for restoring the fish stock. The study aimed at assessing the impacts of the closed fishing season observed in the Sekondi harbour in Ghana. The findings revealed that the one month closure period was too short and/or lack of strict supervision to realize any significant change in fish population and sizes. A more transparent discussion on the period for the closure, longer closure period up to three months as well as provision of alternative sources of livelihood were suggested to ensure more cooperation from the fisher folks.
