Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Vitiligo and alopecia areata (AA) are two autoimmune skin diseases that affect patients' quality of life (QoL) and give rise to psychosocial complications, such as depression, negative self-image, less joyful social engagements, and low self-esteem. These two disorders have common and uncommon characteristics. Therefore, in this study, we tried to evaluate the similarities and differences in the psychological parameters including quality of life, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and depression levels between, vitiligo and AA patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with either vitiligo or AA visiting the outpatient dermatology clinic from November 2017 to December 2020 have been included in this study. Persian versions of three questionnaires including the dermatology life quality index (DLQI), hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS), and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), have been used to assess the QoL, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and depression levels in patients. RESULTS In total, 188 patients, including 94 (50%) cases of AA and 94 (50%) patients with vitiligo, met the criteria. In AA patients, a significantly higher DLQI score was found (p-value = 0.002) compared to the vitiligo cases, which means a better QoL in vitiligo patients. Additionally, AA patients had higher scores of anxiety (P-value<0.001) and depression (p-Value<0.001). However, sleep disturbance (64.9% of AA patients vs. 59.3% of vitiligo patients; p-Value = 0.4888) was not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS Our data showed lower QoL and higher levels of anxiety and depression in AA patients compared to vitiligo cases, but no difference was seen in sleep disturbance in the PSQI-P score.

Abstract
Vitiligo is a common chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by skin and hair depigmentation that affects 0.5%-2.0% of the global population. Vitiligo is associated with diminished quality of life (QoL) and psychosocial burden. The burden of vitiligo may vary based on skin tone and cultural differences as well as geographical variations in disease awareness, societal stigma, healthcare systems and treatment options. Data on the burden and management of vitiligo in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America are scarce. Literature searches using terms covering vitiligo in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America were conducted using PubMed to identify relevant publications that focused on disease prevalence and burden, QoL and psychosocial impact and disease management between 2011 and 2021. Most of the reviewed studies were conducted in the Middle East, and most Latin American studies were from Brazil. Most studies involved small patient numbers and may not be generalizable. Reported prevalence of vitiligo ranged from 0.18% to 5.3% in Africa and the Middle East, and from 0.04% to 0.57% in Latin America. In several studies, prevalence was higher among female participants. Generally, non-segmental vitiligo was the dominant clinical variant identified and the age at onset varied widely across studies. Common comorbidities include autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, alopecia areata and diabetes. Few treatment guidelines exist in these regions, with the exceptions of guidelines published by the Brazilian and Argentinian Societies of Dermatology. There is a clear unmet need for large epidemiological studies with uniform methodology to accurately ascertain the true prevalence of vitiligo in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Additional data on vitiligo burden and management in Africa and Latin America are also needed, along with local disease management guidelines that consider genetic variation, psychosocial burden and socioeconomic diversity in all 3 regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris and vitiligo are skin disorders that can have a negative impact on a person's self-esteem and quality of life (QoL). The purpose of this study is to look into the impact of acne and vitiligo on the self-esteem and QoL of the patient population in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of 171 Saudi adults (141 individuals with acne vulgaris (9.4%) and 30 with vitiligo (1.5%) between the ages of 16 and 35 was conducted in Madinah. A self-reported questionnaire with four domains was used: socio-demographic data, lifestyle and coexisting pathologic factors or diseases, Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, and the dermatology life quality index (DLQI). RESULTS Acne patients had a mean total score of 20.3 on the self-esteem scale, with 5% (n = 7) having low self-esteem, 48.2% (n = 68) having medium self-esteem, and 46.8% (n = 66) having high self-esteem. Females had higher self-esteem (75.29) than males (56.95). The mean DLQI score for acne patients was 5.4, with 30.5% (n = 47) unaffected, 29.1% (n = 45) mildly affected, 23.4% (n = 35) moderately affected, 5.6% (n = 10) severely affected, and 1.4% (n = 4) severely affected. Vitiligo patients had a mean self-esteem scale score of 13.7, with 63.3% (n = 19) having low self-esteem, 30% (n = 9) having medium self-esteem, and 6.7% (n = 2) having high self-esteem. The mean DLQI was 15.2, with 6.7% (n = 2) reporting that vitiligo had no effect on their lives, 10% (n = 3) reporting a moderate effect, 66.7% (n = 20) reporting a severe effect, and 16.7% (n = 5) reporting a very severe effect. CONCLUSIONS Our research confirms that acne vulgaris and vitiligo have a negative impact on self-esteem and quality of life. Along with medical treatment, effective treatment and psychological improvement of the patient should be prioritized.

Abstract
Individuals with skin disease may experience negative symptoms such as itching and pain, social stigma, and isolation. This cross-sectional study included 378 patients with skin diseases. The Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI) score was found to be higher in individuals with skin disease. A high score indicates an impaired quality of life. Married people than single people, those who are 31 years old and older than those who are 30 years old and younger have higher DLQI scores. And also those who work than those who are unemployed, those who have diseases than those who do not have any other diseases, and those who smoke than those who are non-smokers have higher DLQI scores. In order to increase the quality of life of individuals with skin diseases, it is necessary to detect risky situations as well as symptom control and add psychosocial and psychotherapeutic interventions to the treatment plan.

Abstract
Background Vitiligo, the most common pigment disorder, impacts 0.5-2% of the global population, often causing psychological distress due to appearance changes and potential discrimination. Existing data on depressive symptoms and quality of life (QoL) effects in Saudi Arabian vitiligo patients are limited and inconsistent. Hence, this multi-center investigation was conducted in Saudi Arabia to determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms and quality of life (QoL) impairment in patients with vitiligo and to identify factors linked to increased psychological distress in this population. Methods We conducted a multi-center cross-sectional study in Saudi Arabia, employing two validated Arabic questionnaires, the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 items (PHQ-9), along with demographic information. Appropriate statistical analyses were performed. Results In total, 204 patients completed the survey. The median DLQI was 4 (range: 25), while the median PHQ-9 was 5 (range: 27). Factors associated with worse QoL included an early age of onset (under 18 years) and a disease duration exceeding five years. Conversely, only disease duration correlated with worse PHQ-9 scores. Vitiligo lesions on the lower extremities, feet, and genitalia were linked to poorer DLQI scores, while only genitalia were associated with worse PHQ-9 scores. We recommend further social awareness campaigns emphasizing the role of supportive families to improve the well-being of vitiligo patients.

Abstract
Members of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Force on Quality of Life (QoL) and Patient Oriented Outcomes reviewed the instruments available for health-related (HR) QoL assessment in vitiligo and together with external vitiligo experts (including representatives of the EADV Vitiligo Task Force) have made practical recommendations concerning the assessment of QoL in vitiligo patients. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was the most frequently used HRQoL instrument, making comparison of results between different countries possible. Several vitiligo-specific instruments were identified. The vitiligo Impact Scale (VIS) is an extensively validated vitiligo-specific HRQoL instrument with proposed minimal important change and clinical interpretation for VIS-22 scores. VIS-22 was developed for use in India, where there are some specific cultural beliefs concerning vitiligo. The EADV Task Force on QoL and Patient Oriented Outcomes recommends use of the DLQI and the Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) as dermatology-specific instruments in vitiligo. There is a strong need for a valid (including cross-cultural validation) vitiligo-specific instrument that can be either a new instrument or the improvement of existing instruments. This validation must include the proof of responsiveness.
