Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many children at risk for negative outcomes related to untreated attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) do not receive necessary mental healthcare. Parents' mental health-seeking behavior is important in the early identification of ADHD and preventing comorbidities with ADHD. Parents may experience some barriers that may delay or stop parents from seeking mental healthcare for their children. METHOD This systematic review summarized existing evidence of parents' barriers to seeking mental healthcare for their children at risk of ADHD. RESULTS This review included 21 studies that address different parental barriers under the three levels of the social-ecological model, including individual, interpersonal, and community levels. CONCLUSION Raising parents' awareness of the process of seeking mental healthcare has the potential to help identify children at risk for ADHD earlier. Developing psychoeducational intervention that improves parents' seeking behavior and reduces barriers toward seeking mental healthcare is needed.

Efficacy of Guanfacine Extended Release in Children and Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Comorbid Oppositional Defiant Disorder. J Dev Behav Pediatr 2020; 41:565-570. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy of the non-stimulant guanfacine extended release (GXR) on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in children and adolescents, with and without comorbid oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). METHODS Data were derived from 4 phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled trials of dose-optimized GXR monotherapy, in which at least 10% of participants had a diagnosis of comorbid ODD. SPD503-312 and SPD503-316 were 10- to 13-week studies of GXR (1-7 mg/d). SPD503-314 and SPD503-307 were 8-week studies of GXR (1-4 mg/d). Efficacy was assessed using the ADHD Rating Scale IV (ADHD-RS-IV) total scores. RESULTS In total, 1,084 participants were included (SPD503-312 and SPD503-316, n = 537; SPD503-314, n = 333; and SPD503-307, n = 214). GXR was associated with significant improvements in ADHD core symptoms at endpoint in participants with and without ODD (p < 0.01 in all studies). Placebo-adjusted least-squares mean (95% confidence interval) changes from baseline to endpoint in the ADHD-RS-IV total scores in participants with and without ODD were -8.6 (-14.4, -2.8) and -7.3 (-9.5, -5.0) in the pooled data from SPD503-312 and SPD503-316, -12.6 (-19.6, -5.7) and -8.7 (-11.8, -5.5) in SPD503-314, and -12.7 (-17.3, -8.1) and -11.8 (-19.3, -4.4) in SPD503-307, respectively. The corresponding effect sizes were 0.688 and 0.598 in SPD503-312 and SPD503-316, 0.876 and 0.729 in SPD503-314, and 0.962 and 0.842 in SPD503-307. CONCLUSION The findings demonstrate the efficacy of GXR for treating ADHD in children and adolescents with comorbid ODD.

Abstract
This review focuses on facial recognition abilities in children and adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A systematic review, using PRISMA guidelines, was conducted to identify original articles published prior to May 2017 pertaining to memory, face recognition, affect recognition, facial expression recognition and recall of faces in children and adolescents with ADHD. The qualitative synthesis based on different studies shows a particular focus of the research on facial affect recognition without paying similar attention to the structural encoding of facial recognition. In this review, we further investigate facial recognition abilities in children and adolescents with ADHD, providing synthesis of the results observed in the literature, while detecting face recognition tasks used on face processing abilities in ADHD and identifying aspects not yet explored.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study compared the romantic relationships of adolescents with and without ADHD with regard to romantic involvement, relationship content, and relationship quality. METHOD A community sample of 58 participants (30 ADHD, 28 Comparison), ages 13 to 18, completed questionnaires assessing various features of romantic relationships. RESULTS Adolescents with ADHD reported having more romantic partners than their typically developing (TD) peers. Females with ADHD were found to have shorter romantic relationships than TD adolescents while males with ADHD reported their age of first intercourse to be nearly 2 years sooner than TD peers. Irrespective of gender, adolescents with ADHD had nearly double the number of lifetime sexual partners. However, the romantic relationships of adolescents with and without ADHD did not differ on levels of aggression or relationship quality. CONCLUSION Given the outcomes associated with poor-quality romantic relationships, comprehensive assessments of adolescents with ADHD should include queries into their romantic relationships.

Abstract
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common developmental neurobiological condition of childhood characterized by age-inappropriate degrees of hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention to tasks requiring sustained vigilance. Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is an externalizing behavior disorder characterized by difficulties with emotional and behavioral regulation that frequently brings the child into conflict with authority figures. In the clinical setting, ODD is the most common ADHD comorbidity. The combination portends more severe symptom severity, daily impairment, and a more at-risk prognosis than either disorder alone. We briefly review the literature on the characteristics and treatment of the ADHD and ODD child. A clinical approach to evaluation and treatment of ADHD and ODD is then presented. This approach emphasizes the importance of child and parent psychoeducation about the two disorders alone and in combination, the importance of behavioral management therapy approaches, the possible need for school and academic supports, and the decision to use evidence-based stimulant or non-stimulant ADHD medications depending on symptom severity combined with child and parental wishes and choice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine patterns of associations between a broad range of mental and physical conditions by using a large, systematically obtained pediatric registry. METHODS The sample included 9014 youth ages 8 to 21 years (4349 males and 4665 females; 3585 aged <13 years, 3678 aged 13 to 18 years, and 1751 aged 19 to 21 years) from the Philadelphia Neurodevelopmental Cohort identified through pediatric clinics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia health care network by the Center for Applied Genomics. Measures were as follows: physical condition based on electronic medical records and interview data on 42 physical conditions of 14 organ systems/specialties and mental disorders based on an abbreviated version of the structured Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia psychiatric diagnostic interview. RESULTS There was a direct association between the severity of the physical condition and most classes of mental disorders, as well as with functional impairment. Models adjusted for sociodemographic correlates, other physical and mental disorders, and false discovery and revealed broad patterns of associations between neurodevelopmental disorders with behavior disorders (odds ratio [OR]: 1.5; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.3-1.8; P < .004) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (OR: 3.1; 95% CI: 2.7-3.6; P < .0001), and neurologic/central nervous system conditions (OR: 1.3; 95% CI: 1.1-1.9; P < .05) with mood disorders and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (OR: 1.3; 95% CI: 1.1-1.5; P < .001), and autoimmune/inflammatory conditions with mood disorders (OR: 1.4; 95% CI: 1.1-1.8, P < .05). CONCLUSIONS Findings show the strong overlap between physical and mental conditions and their impact on severity and functional impairment in youth. Specific patterns of comorbidity have important implications for etiology. Prospective tracking of cross-disorder morbidity will be important to establish more effective mechanisms for prevention and intervention.

Abstract
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and its associated behavioural manifestations develop and progress as the result of complex gene-environment interactions. Parents exert a substantial influence and play a major role in their child's social environment. Despite this, recent evidence has suggested that adapting the child's environment via parenting interventions has minimal effects on child ADHD symptoms when analysing data from informants who are probably blind to treatment allocation. However, adverse parenting and family environments may act as a source of environmental risk for a number of child outcomes beyond ADHD symptoms. This is a narrative review that critically discusses whether parenting interventions are beneficial for alternative functioning outcomes in ADHD including neuropsychological, academic and social functioning and disruptive behaviour and how parenting and familial environments may be associated with these outcomes. In addition, the review explores how parental depression and parenting efficacy impact on capacity for optimal parenting and whether parenting interventions benefit parents too. A review of the evidence suggests that with modification, parenting interventions are beneficial for a number of outcomes other than ADHD symptom reduction. Improving the parent-child relationship may have indirect benefits for disruptive behaviour. Furthermore, parenting behaviours may directly benefit child neuropsychological, academic and social functioning. Parenting interventions can have therapeutic benefits for parents as well as children, which is important as parent and child well-being is likely to have a transactional relationship. Evaluation of the clinical success of parenting interventions should focus on a wider range of outcomes in order to aid understanding of the multifaceted benefits that they may be able to offer. Parenting interventions should not be seen as a redundant adjunct to medication in multi-modal treatment approaches for ADHD; they have the potential to target outcomes that, at present, medication seems less able to improve.

Abstract
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complex disorder that can affect individuals across the lifespan. It is associated with substantial heterogeneity in terms of aetiology, clinical presentation and treatment outcome and is the subject of extensive research. Because of this, it can be difficult for clinicians to stay up to date with the most relevant findings and know how best to respond to parents' questions and concerns about the disorder and interventions. This is a narrative review that aims to summarize key findings from recent research into ADHD and its treatment that clinicians can share with families in order to increase their knowledge about ADHD and intervention options. ADHD develops as a result of complex interplay between interdependent genetic and non-genetic factors. The disorder is associated with substantial impairments in functioning and poor long-term outcomes. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options are available for symptom management and to improve function, but functioning outcomes often fail to normalize in children with ADHD. Despite extensive advances in understanding this complex disorder, it is clear that there is still a long way to go. In particular, we address the need for future non-pharmacological interventions to be more specifically targeted for ADHD symptoms and its commonly associated functioning deficits in order to ensure the best long-term outcomes for children with ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death for schoolchildren. We assessed the association between externalizing psychopathology, parenting style, and unintentional injury in European children in the community. METHODS Data were drawn from the School Children Mental Health in Europe project and included 4517 schoolchildren across seven diverse European regions. Past-year injuries serious enough to seek medical attention were reported by mothers. Child mental health problems were assessed using validated measures and reported by the mothers, teachers, and children. Parenting styles were based on The Parenting Scale and the Parent Behaviors and Attitudes Questionnaire. RESULTS Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity symptoms and oppositional defiant symptoms had a higher risk of injury compared to other children whether based on parent report (OR=1.47, 95% C.I. 1.2-1.9), teacher report (OR=1.36, 95% C.I. 1.1-1.7), or parent and teacher report combined (OR=1.53, 95% C.I. 1.1-2.1). Children who self-reported oppositional symptoms also had higher risk of injury (OR=1.6, 95% C.I. 1.1-2.4). Low-caring behavior of parents increased the risk of injury (OR=1.4, 95% C.I. 1.1-1.9). CONCLUSION Unintentional injury is a potential adverse health consequence of child externalizing problems. Interventions to improve parent-child relationships and prevention as well as focused treatment for externalizing problems may reduce the burden of injury.
